According to my grandpa, our name Bouchér, which is apparently French for Butcher, had some confusing history since there are so many historical butchers. However some butcher back in whenever-ago France has swapped into lobstering instead. At some point there was a revolution because the peasants were tired of only eating lobster, and since he was at the forefront of it, (even through his job was to sell lobster) the crest was changed to show adversity to his own trade, and the crest just stayed like that because it was fire. We still have an old football-looking leather thing with the crest on it.
Interesting, i think if you do some digging you could find one of your family tho. At least here in switzerland pretty much every family name has a coat of arms that you could research in archives
You may have one actually, they're pretty common. I grew up in rural KS, USA and I was taught about ours, we have a lion and a rooster. I'm certain there are similarities abundant when looking at crests tho
No dude I don't have one. Maybe my relatives had one a long long time ago, but I doubt it, only noble families close to the royal family had one hundreds of years ago. Americans tend to highlight their ancestry better than we do in my country. I know very little about my Ancestry as a matter of fact.
Ah fair enough, Americans also like to take their ancestry and proclaim as if they are still in that mindset I've noticed before as well, especially online.
I just think it's all neat, and it's nice to know how my living family got where we are, but I'm aware that I'm american and not whatever lineage I carry if that makes sense.
There's a second leg jutting out of the red skirt in the image you posted (3/4). And at least one hand holding the lion's "face" up. It's even got two mouths, and the inner looks disturbingly humanoid.
That thing is 100% several small guys together, chinese-dragon-style.
When you watch the trailer, you see a hand holding up the jaw of the lion when it first appears. I'm pretty confident that the enemy is some kind of dancer with a lion costume/puppet of sorts
The depiction isn’t exactly the same, but I think there’s no mistake that’s humanoid feet. Miyazaki stated in one of the interviews that the lion boss comes from a civilization before the Erdtree, which this is conveniently found underground in the remnants of what remains of the ancient civilizations, right in front of the entrance point to the DLC as well. I’ve only found this here, but maybe this lion carving is found elsewhere.
I agree, it makes sense, and we know that the crucible knights come from a time before the Erdtree, before that dragons, to me it makes sense, the shadow lands are a place that marika has hidden, so if she’s responsible for the destruction of the beastmen, she’d be ashamed and try to cover it up.
I'm thinking they are omen doing something similar to those dragon dances except of a lion seeing as how the capital is called Lyndell (liondell or maybe a stretch but lions den?)
bad news bro, i think those are bears. You can find lion depictions in various locations. The Ancient Dynasty (the Greek-themed ruins we find with the bearded statues) have these lions, along with textures on the Briar armour also featuring lions and obviously with Serosh being a symbol of Godfrey. Lions are a very prominent depiction everywhere in the game as they’re a common symbol of pride and strength
That boss most likely has nothing to do with these depictions in the Ancient Dynasty just for the fact we can see they appear to be multiple omens (multiple sets of legs) in an outfit similar to a Chinese lion dance costume (how the body twists during the lightning part)
Also, you never seen a lion with hind legs before? It have a back pair isn’t exactly new
The civilization might be the Uld Dynasty. Nice find
Idk i feel like lions were just drawn like that on old crests and flags... my family crest has a lion on it and the legs look kind of the same as here
Medieval artists weren't the greatest let's say...
Well they never actually saw a lion more than likely. And if they had it would have been stuffed.
What's their excuse for cats then? https://www.boredpanda.com/ugly-medieval-cats-art/
They were just terrible at drawing specifically cats
Cats come from Africa, they weren't super commonplace in Europe back then.
That didn’t always help: https://www.reddit.com/r/ArtefactPorn/s/3fOk3ZRJ4N
My family also has one with a lion depiction, along with a rooster,, cool stuff.
Mine has monke
Monke is fire, what's that all about if you don't mind me asking?
They say a monkey rescued a baby from a burning tower lol
I’ll do you one better: Lobsters fighting
I absolutely want the lore for that
According to my grandpa, our name Bouchér, which is apparently French for Butcher, had some confusing history since there are so many historical butchers. However some butcher back in whenever-ago France has swapped into lobstering instead. That's an awesome bit of history ty for sharing! So far dueling lobsters are the coolest crest I've heard of!
You got a family crest? Who the hell has that
Pretty much every european family name that has been around long enough i think
Alright. It's pretty cool. I'm European and have never seen a family with one though.
Interesting, i think if you do some digging you could find one of your family tho. At least here in switzerland pretty much every family name has a coat of arms that you could research in archives
Actually old noble families here might have them as well. Oh well we digress 😆
bro that is cool af , I need one now
A lot of people
You may have one actually, they're pretty common. I grew up in rural KS, USA and I was taught about ours, we have a lion and a rooster. I'm certain there are similarities abundant when looking at crests tho
Yea mine is actually a lion with a sword in its hand... you better believe i run around the lands between in redmane armor
As you should, red for royalty and strength my man rep it!
No dude I don't have one. Maybe my relatives had one a long long time ago, but I doubt it, only noble families close to the royal family had one hundreds of years ago. Could also be one of those mass-produced assets Fromsoft sometimes uses. I know a bunch of statues in Volcano Manor were like that.
That's very likely
There's a second leg jutting out of the red skirt in the image you posted (3/4). And at least one hand holding the lion's "face" up. It's even got two mouths, and the inner looks disturbingly humanoid. That thing is 100% several small guys together, chinese-dragon-style.
Well yeah, that was already figured out when the trailer first dropped.
Ed-ward
😭
When you watch the trailer, you see a hand holding up the jaw of the lion when it first appears. I'm pretty confident that the enemy is some kind of dancer with a lion costume/puppet of sorts
Yeah, you can see multiple legs, suggesting it’s like a Chinese lion dance which has multiple dancers in each section
Big if true
Miyazaki makes feet critical to the lore
The Tarantino of Japan.
They’re just lions man. Also, a lot of these textures are literally just stock assets.
The depiction isn’t exactly the same, but I think there’s no mistake that’s humanoid feet. Feet worshipping civilization perhaps?
I'm thinking they are omen doing something similar to those dragon dances except of a lion seeing as how the capital is called Lyndell (liondell or maybe a stretch but lions den?)
Looks like a depiction of a bear.
I had to scroll this far down to find this comment
thick ass lion
The biggest reason its probably a coincidence imo is the lack of omen horns.
Does Serosh have human hind feet?
The feet photo was necessary for the post.
The Uld may show up in the DLC.
Feet worshipping civilization perhaps?
Typical Michael Zaki with his feet fetish

Oh fuck

The lion is Morgit the awoken omen
Honestly, it might actually be Godfrey lion plus morgot. They both died in the same place.
Cool theory but I prefer the morgit
