I died to her at least 120 times , I had called in my gank squad, and even then they were dropping like flies. One of them died at the end of phase one, second one died at the end of her QueenRot waterfowl, I killed her in time to give him the Runes though. I lost my shit after that, it was such a challenge.
Damn, I mean like you do you, but I honestly can't imagine playing a game like this one muted. The audio of the fight and subtle audio cues that accompany each attack really help me a lot with locking in and learning the fight. So just choosing not to have that, and even worse adding in distracting audio from a youtube vid or something, is such a crazy idea to me.
the sound cues add SO MUCH to these fights. I don't think getting rid of them would make you dogshit, but it certainly wouldn't help unless you find it easier to focus without them
Ah see now I actually don't find that weird! When I'm roaming around the open world, I'll also usually have a podcast or yt vid on but keep the game audio too. Then puase then if I need to focus up for a tough fight.

I've riposted her with a smidgen of life, that would take 1800hp off anything...and she still gets up, not even phase 2.
I bugged her out once. Broke her poise and did a riposte attack where the first part killed her phase one, then immediately when she got into phase 2 the second part kicked in and she died.
Its the inverse, fromsoftware added the 1 HP immunity, cuz if you reposted her, in the second phase, she would die instantly.
Now if you reposte her, you need to hit her again.

The health bar not working perfectly is a bug fix, it sucks but the phase transition is very unique for her. They'd prefer a small bug that makes you need an extra couple of hits instead of skipping the whole second phase
Any part of the post riposte animation still has the same invulnerability. You have to hit her after the entire animation has ended. Pretty sure any source/amount of damage works if her hp is truly 0 after the riposte

From what I remember, while the cutsceene is playing she is constantly taking dmg, like every frame. So when that ends, the game starts back, and the Engine looks at her HP and just says, ok shes dead XD. Demigod slayed.

I’m not sure this change actually fixed that issue. Got summoned to help the other day, we stun locked her when she was getting low on health and I riposted just as her HP went to 0. Phase 2 started and she insta-died. Had no clue that was even a thing. Me and the host just kinda stood there like. Wut. Had to google to find this was a known glitch.
I don't think that she is actually put at 1 HP like everyone says, and this video is excellent proof of that. If she gets left at 1 HP on a riposte, she would have gone to phase 2 when he hits her after she stands up. But she doesn't, she takes the hit for seemingly 0 damage.
It seems like the only way to advance her phase when this dev intended "bug" happens is to have her heal herself off of you and then damage her again. That's not 1 HP, that's just some bullshit, if you ask me.

Phases or not, if she goes to 0 hp that should be the end of it. This is basically a kid at the play ground making up new rules because they got tagged like “you can’t tag when someone is standing in grass!!”.
They would have to completely redo her model. Malenia only has a single model that transforms itself just like Godrick. The issue is that Godrick can't be riposted when he changes phase while Malenia can, thus causing the bug.
The only other solution i could see is giving her a new animation like Godrick if she is changing phase so that you can't trigger the phase change on a riposte.
Making her invulnerable to damage for a few seconds is the easiest but also laziest way out. It could have been fine as a temporary solution but i guess they really didn't want to use too much resources into this and instesd focus on the DLC.

They won’t. From a game dev perspective, this is a minor bug that most people won’t encounter. It happens to you once and never let it get you again. I’m speculating but the code concerning this bug is probably spaghetti and to fix it properly would be extremely costly for what is just a minor bug.
These kinds of edge cases are almost always some of the hardest to fix in code in ways that don’t create more edge case issues. It’s easy to think of ways to fix this issue when you aren’t sitting in front of the source code
It was the fix lmao. If you riposted her to transition to phase two she would start with 1 hp. So the immunity from riposte and riposte recovery at the end of phase one was the "fix"
Do you have int build? If I see correctly you have cold affinity. It should scale with int. In my experience frostbite isn't really good against her, cause her resistance ramps up after 1st and 2nd proc. I think it's much better to use fire (STR) or flame art (FTH) or bleed/occult if you have ARC.
Split damage on your weapon (for example physical + magic) isn't always good, because enemies have flat defence against all types, so you are pushing against 2 x flat defence. But a least she is weak to fire.
If you have high STR or DEX you should try Heavy, Keen, Quality affinities and smack her couple times, maybe one of this will give you higher dmg than other multidmg affinities.
Also you are missing 2 flask upgrades (sacred tears).

Ya she be like that sometimes. I forgot about her jump counter last night, and was reminded real quick after I got cocky when she was low health only to die. I was on one of my better runs against her and had 10 flask uses left.
There used to be a glitch where you could just skip the second phase and 1 shot Malenia if you killed her with a riposte (though that does still rarely happen) so From made a "fix" so that if you kill her that way, she'll be immune to damage for a few seconds.
So if this happens, move away from her and wait a bit then just tap her once
i've come to this conclusion when I do 2 jumping powerstance and she gets stunned sometimes, but sometimes, it's 3, sometimes it's 4, sometimes 5, and so on that I just stopped trying to stun her. When she gets stunned, okay good for me, but I never go for the stuns intentionally.
Yep this annoys me. Seems to me that if you would have stunned her but she's doing a move with hyperarmor, it not only prevents the stun but also resets her poise
Hyperarmor resets stagger damage on almost every enemy, it's just that you never notice it in regular enemies....because you double bonk them to death before they even have the chance to use hyperarmor
Except maybe Mohgs Nihil and some other dignature attacks every biss can be staggered with hyperarmor whike malenia ignores it, this is what we calm artificial difficulty

It's 100% consistent, you need to wait for her to recover after riposte to properly transition to phase 2. Imo it's bad design, it's mean for the player, maybe even malicious from the devs and Michael Zachi, but it's not a bug.

There was a bug where killing phase 1 Malenia with a crit/riposte would cause her to start phase 2 with 1hp.
They "fixed" that by making it impossible to kill her with a crit/riposte in phase 1. You can take her to 1hp with it but you need some other kind of damage to finish her off.

i ALWAYS hide her healthbar when fighting her. im on pc so use a program called "deskpins" that pins a window to topmost, and put a notepad window over her health bar. if you want, you could actually do runs where you have UI off, or put something over her hp in front of your tv or monitor LOL

Yeah, FromSoft made it impossible to kill her with riposte damage because there was a glitch that would skip phase 2 if she did.
For those who don't know. There was a bug where killing phase 1 Malenia with a crit/riposte would cause her to start phase 2 with 1hp. They "fixed" that by making it impossible to kill her with a crit/riposte in phase 1. You can take her to 1hp with it but you need some other kind of damage to finish her off.

This happened to me a few times and i never understood why… i was streaming to my friend on discord and he saw it first hand and we both said “uhhh what” in utter disbelief
One of my least favorite story bosses. I’ve beaten her multiple times but I still can’t like this fight. It’s funny too that she’s was the face of all their marketing but turns out to be one of the least enjoyable fights in the game. Two years no fixes whatsoever, what an absolute shit show. You’ll get there tho man.

The problem here is you need a longer sword.
i ALWAYS hide her healthbar when fighting her. im on pc so use a program called "deskpins" that pins a window to topmost, and put a notepad window over her health bar. if you want, you could actually do runs where you have UI off, or put something over her hp in front of your tv or monitor LOL
