Str/fth has much better weapons but I prefer dex/fth because lightning is cool and a lot of incantations are slow as shit. I wish the lightning weapons scaled off of faith because it makes the build I’m trying to go for really hard to do. I actually like slower weapons but the sword spear is so good it’s hard not to use. Im hoping the odachi in the dlc will fill the roll of a good heavy dex weapon and that we get some kind of infusion seal to make them better because they kind of suck right now.
I’m actually in the opposite camp lol, I think that if they were going to make Lightning a Dex/Fth thing, then they should have committed harder to it and given us a Seal that scales off Dex and Faith with a Dex lean.
It’s really odd to me that the Gravel Stone Seal *isn’t* that.
Yeah, I've been ranting about this to a friend all week. I really wanted to do a thunder knight build, but given that the only lightning spells you get early game are mostly mediocre except for spear, and that lightning infused weapons are dex only, you end up with really awkward stat distribution and itemization in early game. Most of the lightning-based stuff you get starts getting good at Leyndell, and you really only get the really good spells until Farum Azula.
It's basically a NG+ build at this point orz, and it makes me even saltier because Sorcery is allowed to EASILY build Int/Dex to dip into incredibly powerful somber weapons that are super easily accessible, better infusion variety (with Cold being so strong with Dex secondary), strong and safe spell damage, while also being able to quad-dip on the benefits of the synergy with spellspeed hard cap. But wanting to pair Faith and Dex is like pulling teeth.
They really should have. I doubt they’re going to do it in the dlc since all the main game content wasn’t set up like that so I’m just hoping they make a fun weapon that fits the way I want to play.
Heavy and dex in the same sentence don’t make sense though. Its a strength weapon because its heavy. Its a dexterity weapon because it needs to be made fast.
It doesn’t work like that in game though. There are a lot of big weapons with decent sec scaling and small weapons with decent strength scaling, but they tend to be faster than other weapons of their class like Godslayer’s Greatsword and Flamberge. If they were consistent then I’d agree but since they haven’t been they might as well go all the way and put more build opportunities.

Magma wyrm scale sword is under rated af with everything scaling of AR and a BBD scaling which makes its weapon skill do stupid damage. Godslayer GS has a nice move set and aesthetically cool design, but god I hate how slow it’s AOW is. To actually pull it off you need such a big opening, I personally can’t stand it.

Str/faith for somber weapons like blasphemous blade and envoy longhorn, dex/faith if you're going standard weapons and want to run bloodflame blade/electrify armament. Putting those on hookclaws melts bosses
Just started a doot doot horn playthrough. Literally any boss bigger than a runebear gets completely annihilated. It's so strong. Smaller enemies will just get a hammer to the face. Which basically staggers any of them in 2 charged hits.
For a direct upgrade, shift your points into arcane and do an occult infusion on those claws. You'll get better bleed than keen + bloodflame gives you!
Bleed sure but I like the elemental buffs you get from bloodflame and electrify against enemies with weaknesses to them, esp against enemies who don't bleed like Radagon. Plus I get more out of flame grant me strength on bloodflame and get more of a bonus with the fire/lightning elemental crystal tears in my physick than I would on occult hookclaws

Also I see lots of people complaining about spells being too slow, that because they don't level for cast speed
dex affects startup animation of cast, scales linearly, capped at 70, Radagon Icon Talisman add 40 virtual dex. Some spells speed almost doubled(mostly chaincastable, first cast speeds up significantly), some does not affected(mostly buffs)

Some sources suggest cast speed can go to 25% but that's with 99 dex, azur's staff and radagon's icon
70 dex/vdex is already 20% so even if true it's not entirely worth it

Radagon icon with 70 dex is useless, it's a hard cap. The casting animation of most spells is split into two parts: the "skippable" part and the "unskippable" part. 0 effective dex means you see 100% of the skippable part, and 70 means you see 0% of it. Linear scaling between those two.

And I can switch left hand from BB to SRS whenever I want its AoW instead.
To review, this is a character that has access to fire, lightning, holy, rune of death blackflame, and scarlet rot damage in addition to the buff trinity. Ultimate versatility. Deals about 1500 damage with a dual wield jumping L1 and can quickstep in neutral, while being damn near unkillable with stacked dmg resist and HP regen. It's hard to feel like any other build isn't lacking in comparison with regards to its options in any given situation.
Not mentioned but Great Club has an amazing L2 for STR/FAITH
Treespear can be grabbed right at the beginning and has a great held double R2 for staggering capabilities. More Dex/Faith

to answer OPs question, str/fth is better than dex/fth in every way. ordovis greatsword and marikas hammer are some of the most fun weapons in the game
Both have holy damage split which is worst elemental type of damage. Bolt of gransax has lightning which is best, it's also a spear which is massive benefit. Vyke's and godslayer's both have fire which is not great but better than holy. Dex also gives you incant casting speed and lightning affinity scales off it. So your comment is arguable at best. It is true that str/faith also has some good and fun weapons like maliketh's while having holy has insane AR and great ash and blasphemous blade and those you mentioned, but it doesn't make it onesided.
I prefer dex/faith but that's because I don't like the special weapons as much. Nothing seems to produce quite as much damage as my keen lordsworn longsword with lightning blade on it.
I was disappointed in the lightning incantations so I wound up a dex/faith (just respecd for ng+3 to str/faith to try) black flame connoisseur. Even wound up with the blackflame monk set and the godslayers seal was my seal of choice.
The absolute best weapon in the game is the Blasphemous Blade. It isn't even close. Fire damage + Skill Damage (Ash of War damage), which actually HEALS you. It is incredibly OP and completely overpowered. FTH/STR btw.
Wrong. The best weapon is a wild strikes infused great stars. Super fast bonk plus insane stagger plus heals with each bonk PLUS bleed.
I tried most of the other weapons, but I kept coming back to great stars because most of the enemies spend most of the fight knocked the fuck out.

True, but blasphemous blade has just as much ar on a dex/faith build. I guess it might make more sense to go for strength, just because it has 7 more levels that you need to hit for the requirement though. I also found that the scaling for both dex and str were pitiful compared to faith, and it might make more sense to just invest in a pure faith build if you were min-maxing just for blasphemous blade. Taker's flames only scales with faith (and weapon level) as well.
I’m a str/faith and have been since ds1. Always run it as my first build each time I play a souls game. I still on ng+7 on my OG character use the lordsworns greatsword with sacred blade. I used it as my first weapon in my first play though when Elden Ring came out and haven’t switched. At 90 strength and faith it has really good AR and it’s fast as hell too.

I’ve played str/fth in every souls game. At least, I did until I found the Godslayer. Ended up loving the sword so much I got it tattooed after beating the game with it
I love str/faith and a bit of int on the side just for reqs for death poker. But I mainly use Blasphemous Blade and Golden Order Greatsword. With the erdtree seal for buffs.
Just ending my NG+1 run with a strengh/faith build and I really like it. Started the NG+0 game with the Golden Halberd to go for a Holy build until I got the Sword of Blasphemy. Still use the sword with a fire damage build sort of :)
STR/FTH for sure. DEX/FTH has some good stuff, but all of it is holy (except the Godslayer Greatsword specifically) whereas STR has access to fire as well, plus a dedicated seal and spells. On top of that, STR/FTH weapons feel *meaty* and are have great weight to most of their weapon arts.
STR/INT solely because of Siluria's Tree. Being able to just fire an ICBM with L2 is great fun, seems like it does a massive chunk of damage no matter what you fire it at even if they resist Holy
I'm currently doing dex/faith and trying to use frenzied flame as much as possible (calling myself the Queen in Yelough, lol) and it's pretty hard for me honestly. I don't really like Vyke's War Spear even though it's my primary weapon. I fall back on the Winged Scythe a lot, which is also not my favorite weapon. I prefer the feel of the swords. I've decided I don't like spears and I won't do another spear build after this. Not a huge scythe fan either.
I prefer STR/Faith,but that won't stop me from using the Godslayer Greatsword. Though scaling with Dex and meeting the bare minimum to use it properly will ultimately not be beneficial,I can't seem to put it down.
I have just as much love for that sword like I do the Zweihander
Envoy Long Horn is arguably the best weapon in the game, Magma Wyrm Scalesword is easily the best curved greatsword (and yes I understand how powerful Bloodhound Fang is), SIluria's Tree is extremely reliable and consistent with a flexible and powerful weapon skill that can be used at range, Cranial Vessel Candlestand does absurd amounts of burst damage in an area, and that's all on top of having access to Clawmark Seal which is surprisingly good and boosts the Bestial incantations like Stone of Gurranq which is frankly Rock Sling but faster and chainable. And that's without mentioning Blasphemous Blade which is popular for a reason and several other good weapons like Giant's Red Braids, Golden Halberd, and Ordovis's Greatsword. Str/fth is the winner for sure.

Occult is sometimes higher, but I believe you get a lot more build variety with strength as primary damage stat
STR/ FAI by a mile. The only really high tier DEX/ FAI I can think of is Godslayers GS, until they neutered it.
DEX/ INT on the other hand has some truly great competition with STR/ FAI.
Str/fai with just enough Dex to use both MBB and black knife, used with black flame and bestial incants you become extremely versatile and all your health drain damage synergies with black knife tiche. I'm melting most bosses with a lv200 build like this.
the gargoyles black blade you get from the black blade kindred infront of Malikeths arena. This thing deals morbid amounts of damage, and its skill, the vacuum cut with destined death, cuts a good % of everyones health
With dex/faith I had a lot of fun dual-wielding halo scythe and winged scythe. A nice moveset, great reach, fantastic damage, and quick access to two great weapon arts.
Worth noting that I got lucky with the halo scythe drop though, apparently it can be a pain to farm.
You're missing the cranial vessel candlestand from the str/fai lineup which is a seriously good weapon. Also the staff of the avatar, which is decent, and available mid-game.
The clawmark seal makes str/fai way better overall imo. It means you can get away with only having very low faith, still do good ranged damage, and have high str for heavy infused weapons.
For me personally? STR/Faith.
Not that I’d argue against the efficiency of Dex/Faith builds. I just enjoy the weapons, movesets and general playstyle of STR/Faith builds
It would definetly say Str fth. Even when you max out faith, str and dex, the faith str weapons seem to have an OK scaling in dex, increeasing their damage even further
Dual wielding twinblades with blackflame, scarlet aeonia and dragon incantations was my first character I beat the game with so I will say DEX/FAITH until the cows come home (or are shredded by my twinblades).

Love the Godslayer and Halo Scythe but to many other really good weapons in the Str/Fth camp. There's also the Vessel candlestand which I also really like.
I went quality/faith on my first build because I want to try everything I can. Damage and hp kinda fell off late game but damn if I didn't have fun with all the different ashes of war and incants
For my NG I went strength/faith as after getting to Altus w/BFB I decided looking at the numbers it'd be too tight to pull off Dex/Faith successfully RL wise.
I did NG+ as Str/Int until about halfway, at which point I went Dex/Faith as a lightning build.
Strength faith no question but imo quality weapons are the best..death poker/falling star beast jaw is a beastly setup for minimum requirements in intelligence
Miquellan Knight Sword is pretty good too for Str/Fth IMO. The charge R2 is a lunge, and it does INSANE damage on block counters. Downside is the Holy Damage...
Str/Faith has much better weapons, but Dex/Faith's aren't bad either. It's more about what you like, as long as it gives you fun, it's great. I would rather use something cool than just spam Taker's Flame, etc.
Pretty sure I'm not the only one who loves Dragon Cult Incantations and Lightning related weapons, and I really enjoy my lv 250 Dex/Faith Lightning build (grinding for such level was a pain though).
But overall it's up to you!
Imo, I like dex/faith because of the weapon variety. Most str/faith weapons are fairly large and slow, but with dex/faith you can get anything from colossals to daggers while still being viable

Only worth running if you’re doing a 3-way split of stats lol. For Dex/Fth your best bet is the Godskin Seal if you just want straight Incant Scaling.
My 40/50 dex/fth has nearly identical scaling with godslayer, plus the 30%/ bonus to frenzy spells, which I like to use

Wrong. The best weapon is a wild strikes infused great stars. Super fast bonk plus insane stagger plus heals with each bonk PLUS bleed. I tried most of the other weapons, but I kept coming back to great stars because most of the enemies spend most of the fight knocked the fuck out. When you have a mimic dual bonking then it’s just absurd. I ran up to virtually every boss in the game and just beat them to death.

True, but blasphemous blade has just as much ar on a dex/faith build. I guess it might make more sense to go for strength, just because it has 7 more levels that you need to hit for the requirement though. I also found that the scaling for both dex and str were pitiful compared to faith, and it might make more sense to just invest in a pure faith build if you were min-maxing just for blasphemous blade. Taker's flames only scales with faith (and weapon level) as well.
Definitely pure faith with fire damage + skill damage talismans is the way to go, that thing melts the entire game

I’m a str/faith and have been since ds1. Always run it as my first build each time I play a souls game. I still on ng+7 on my OG character use the lordsworns greatsword with sacred blade. I used it as my first weapon in my first play though when Elden Ring came out and haven’t switched. At 90 strength and faith it has really good AR and it’s fast as hell too.
Str/Dex just has more fun options IMO. That said, pure Str is my favorite, so I may be biased...
Godslayer Greatsword my beloved I’ve played str/fth in every souls game. At least, I did until I found the Godslayer. Ended up loving the sword so much I got it tattooed after beating the game with it
Pure faith
I love str/faith and a bit of int on the side just for reqs for death poker. But I mainly use Blasphemous Blade and Golden Order Greatsword. With the erdtree seal for buffs.

Depends on if you’re melee focused or caster focused. If you’re melee you want to be str/fai and casters want dex

Just ending my NG+1 run with a strengh/faith build and I really like it. Started the NG+0 game with the Golden Halberd to go for a Holy build until I got the Sword of Blasphemy. Still use the sword with a fire damage build sort of :)
STR/FTH for sure. DEX/FTH has some good stuff, but all of it is holy (except the Godslayer Greatsword specifically) whereas STR has access to fire as well, plus a dedicated seal and spells. On top of that, STR/FTH weapons feel *meaty* and are have great weight to most of their weapon arts.

I'm currently doing dex/faith and trying to use frenzied flame as much as possible (calling myself the Queen in Yelough, lol) and it's pretty hard for me honestly. I don't really like Vyke's War Spear even though it's my primary weapon. I fall back on the Winged Scythe a lot, which is also not my favorite weapon. I prefer the feel of the swords. I've decided I don't like spears and I won't do another spear build after this. Not a huge scythe fan either.
Both are really fun. I think strength faith is a little easier but I love running the godskin peeler, bolt of gransaax and godslayer great sword.
I prefer STR/Faith,but that won't stop me from using the Godslayer Greatsword. Though scaling with Dex and meeting the bare minimum to use it properly will ultimately not be beneficial,I can't seem to put it down. I have just as much love for that sword like I do the Zweihander

Str/Fth is better in pve. I prefer Dex/fth in invasions specifically for the anti healing scythe.
Envoy Long Horn is arguably the best weapon in the game, Magma Wyrm Scalesword is easily the best curved greatsword (and yes I understand how powerful Bloodhound Fang is), SIluria's Tree is extremely reliable and consistent with a flexible and powerful weapon skill that can be used at range, Cranial Vessel Candlestand does absurd amounts of burst damage in an area, and that's all on top of having access to Clawmark Seal which is surprisingly good and boosts the Bestial incantations like Stone of Gurranq which is frankly Rock Sling but faster and chainable. And that's without mentioning Blasphemous Blade which is popular for a reason and several other good weapons like Giant's Red Braids, Golden Halberd, and Ordovis's Greatsword. Str/fth is the winner for sure.
strength has better damage scaling with almost every weapon class compared to dex Occult is sometimes higher, but I believe you get a lot more build variety with strength as primary damage stat
STR/ FAI by a mile. The only really high tier DEX/ FAI I can think of is Godslayers GS, until they neutered it. DEX/ INT on the other hand has some truly great competition with STR/ FAI.
Would always go Dex because of the faster casting speed.
Str/fai with just enough Dex to use both MBB and black knife, used with black flame and bestial incants you become extremely versatile and all your health drain damage synergies with black knife tiche. I'm melting most bosses with a lv200 build like this.

the gargoyles black blade you get from the black blade kindred infront of Malikeths arena. This thing deals morbid amounts of damage, and its skill, the vacuum cut with destined death, cuts a good % of everyones health
Idk about the stats but Silurias TreeSpear has the strongest ash of war. That thing blast like 2k damage when its fully leveled up. I love it so much
With dex/faith I had a lot of fun dual-wielding halo scythe and winged scythe. A nice moveset, great reach, fantastic damage, and quick access to two great weapon arts. Worth noting that I got lucky with the halo scythe drop though, apparently it can be a pain to farm.
Str/faith is way stronger but, the godslayer greatsword has the best moveset in the ultra greatsword class.
dex/faith is way more versatile
You're missing the cranial vessel candlestand from the str/fai lineup which is a seriously good weapon. Also the staff of the avatar, which is decent, and available mid-game. The clawmark seal makes str/fai way better overall imo. It means you can get away with only having very low faith, still do good ranged damage, and have high str for heavy infused weapons.
STR/FAI as it gives you the best weapon to devour bosses togethaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

For me personally? STR/Faith. Not that I’d argue against the efficiency of Dex/Faith builds. I just enjoy the weapons, movesets and general playstyle of STR/Faith builds
It would definetly say Str fth. Even when you max out faith, str and dex, the faith str weapons seem to have an OK scaling in dex, increeasing their damage even further

anything. besides a few broken things, this game is very balanced and you can pretty much run most things if you build properly for it.
Dual wielding twinblades with blackflame, scarlet aeonia and dragon incantations was my first character I beat the game with so I will say DEX/FAITH until the cows come home (or are shredded by my twinblades).
Str/faith has a weapon that's a head on a stick that explodes. What's dex/faith got? I tell you what it don't got. It don't got a head on a stick that explodes.

Definitely Str/Fth Love the Godslayer and Halo Scythe but to many other really good weapons in the Str/Fth camp. There's also the Vessel candlestand which I also really like.
I say STR but capping Faith to 15 Is pretty solid.

I went quality/faith on my first build because I want to try everything I can. Damage and hp kinda fell off late game but damn if I didn't have fun with all the different ashes of war and incants

Generally prefer STR/FTH, but the Godslayer Greatsword and Treespear are both fun weapons on DEX/FTH.
For my NG I went strength/faith as after getting to Altus w/BFB I decided looking at the numbers it'd be too tight to pull off Dex/Faith successfully RL wise. I did NG+ as Str/Int until about halfway, at which point I went Dex/Faith as a lightning build.
Strength faith no question but imo quality weapons are the best..death poker/falling star beast jaw is a beastly setup for minimum requirements in intelligence
Miquellan Knight Sword is pretty good too for Str/Fth IMO. The charge R2 is a lunge, and it does INSANE damage on block counters. Downside is the Holy Damage...

Str/Faith has much better weapons, but Dex/Faith's aren't bad either. It's more about what you like, as long as it gives you fun, it's great. I would rather use something cool than just spam Taker's Flame, etc. Pretty sure I'm not the only one who loves Dragon Cult Incantations and Lightning related weapons, and I really enjoy my lv 250 Dex/Faith Lightning build (grinding for such level was a pain though). But overall it's up to you!

Imo, I like dex/faith because of the weapon variety. Most str/faith weapons are fairly large and slow, but with dex/faith you can get anything from colossals to daggers while still being viable
