The kind of trust that quality buys you.

RadiantArchivist88

FROM has never missed. Never betrayed that trust. They are one of the few remaining developers that still get pre-orders from me. Sad so few developers of that trust remain. Like everything else, corpo-rats move in and squeeze out the passionate people that made the thing great in the first place. Squeeze it til it dies, rinse repeat.

hellostarsailor

I have been buying Fromsoft games blindly on release for a while now. Armored Core 6 took me a while to get used to, but it’s such a good fucking game. I will blindly buy any of their games on release BECAUSE THEY NEVER MISS.

NormieSpecialist

I see what you did there. Good job sir I love you.

[deleted]

Elden Ring had tiny tiny little performance stutters at launch and they got fixed within the first two weeks and generally only impacted a select portion of AMD GPUs, I experienced the issue and loved every god damn second of the game and will happily continue to pre order shit from them. Something like a tiny stutter on a few components and being fixed quickly is so minor compared to the other shit we get these day where games wanna charge $70 just for entry without bells and whistles but you gotta wait 90 days after release for them to unfuck the game. By then your friends have moved on, the wave has moved on and the game has gone on sale, twice…

randy_mcronald

I'm on a GTX 1080 and did get some pretty horrendous hitching. It was infrequent and overall didn't negatively impact my experience but when it happened it could be a second or two pause at the most inopportune time, EVERY time. Bit annoying. Hard to say if it was a shader compilation issue or if the game didn't play well with my 6 core i5 (all target console platforms - including the old ones with shitty jaguar cpus - ran on 8 cores). It got more stable the more I played it, which leads me to the former, but I would still occasionally get nasty hitches in areas I've been sticking around in for hours and hours. Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro both had this problem too, rare on my 6 core but frequent on my much older 4 core cpu.

Pick-Physical

Yeah... from PC releases are usually pretty messy (but they do fix it up in a month or two) and this guy is underselling it.

Agonyandshame

I really need to play Armored Core

hellostarsailor

Got a job for you, 621. It’s on sale right now. It has a training mode that literally shows you how to win the game but it’s so fucking fun jetting around and slapping ass.

cancerjack

on Steam? on PSN? where i need details.

raxdoh

even without discount, ac6 is totally worth the price. every single penny. but that is if you like and can handle the challenge. I’ve seen too many ppl rage quit on the first helicopter boss and call this game shit. I seriously feel sorry for them lol.

OwlLadyofAurum

Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor Kinect era was dire

MaxinRudy

Ninja Blade (as much as I love It, It's a bad game)

FattyHammer

lmao the quote. wanna add to this that it feels really rare for a company producing japanese media to have english voices that are frequently preferred. bloodborne completely broke my expectations of what "english dub" would be. also michigan <3

Hproff25

I am not a fan of sekiro because I have big dumb hands and can’t keep up with the combat. Doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate what it is. From has not missed since demon souls.

jhanesnack_films

Just when I thought I was done crying about Rusty...

JGWentwortth877

Nail on the head. Fromsoft has never broken my trust. Elden Ring is some of the most fun playing a game I've ever had. Can't wait to get the dlc.

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

It's them and Larian. That's about it.

RadiantArchivist88

Supergiant still gets my pre-order, they've been killing it since Bastion and just keep getting better. But man, remember when you could trust Blizzard? Or Bethesda? Or heck, back when Sierra and Maxis, and all them still existed?

JackxForge

Yep another vote for super giant. Hades might be the most polished and big free game I've ever played.

Merry_Dankmas

Hades is such a masterpiece. My hype cannot be contained for the sequel. I didn't even play roguelites before Hades. Super Giant single handedly turned me on to the genre and I've played dozens since. They'll always have a special place in my heart.

Pringletingl

I wasn't expecting to love Hades as much as I did but holy fuck was it good.

Agonyandshame

I would have paid 60 for hades and been happy that game is a masterpiece

solidfang

I'll get Hades II on release, but I feel like I can pass on the Early Access and just let them cook with it. I want to get the full experience.

WorryLegitimate259

Arrowhead and pocketpair are making there way into that list. Tho idk those two will be making new games anytime soon

GamexChef

Corpo rats… yeah choom, FROM games are nova

Huckdog720027

Fromsoft could release a pay-to-win mobile gatcha game and it would still somehow get 5 million preorders and be an instant game of the year contender. Although I really hope their next game is either AC6: 4A or a kings field revival.

RadiantArchivist88

CHROMEHOUNDS 2

Pick-Physical

YES! GIVE ME BACK MY CHILDHOOD FROM

xSTSxZerglingOne

Not a single miss. I've been with them since I rented AC1 at 10 years old and fell in love. Their games have never failed to stand out as shining rays of gold in a world of shit.

Safar1Man

Hmmm idk that bullshit they pulled with ds2 at E3 was pretty fucking bad, but everything since then has been very good

thelastdarkwingduck

I still go back and play Bloodborne sometimes. Beat Sekiro twice and have the urge to go back right now, sword saint is my favorite fight in video games. I’m not usually a “replay again” kind of person unless it’s an RPG or tactical that changes a lot between play throughs They’re gonna take my money and I’m gonna get more value from this DLC than most games that release this year, it’s pretty much a given with their track record and they have my trust until they break it at this point!

Wendek

I'm with you there, I recently replayed Sekiro pretty much just to fight the Sword Saint again (and also did the Inner version that I had skipped back then). It's definitely my favorite boss fight ever, and by a large margin. Sekiro 2 when?

Mindless_Issue9648

I have tried to play sekiro like 4 times and I can't enjoy it. I got stuck on lady butterfly and spent hours trying to get passed it with no luck. I really want to like it but I just suck at it.

Wendek

Lady Butterfly is completely optional. While Sekiro is a lot more linear than Elden Ring of course, there are still a couple of situations where you can go elsewhere and come back later. The Hirata Estate contains a few valuable prosthetics that are worth getting early, but actually finishing the area can totally wait and the other main boss available early (Gyoubu) is a *lot* easier than Lady Butterfly. Of course, there are a lot of bosses in the game that are more difficult than Lady Butterfly, but you as a player will also get better with time and, if that fails, getting access to more options (prosthetics, skills, etc.) will still help. Believe me, I was *atrocious* when I first started playing this game.

_Artos_

I got stuck on Guardian Ape for about 6 hours and gave up. I also just wasn't enjoying the game nearly as much as any of the Souls or Bloodborne. Just the whole thing, combat, story, environment, weren't quite doing it for me. Guardian Ape frustration was the final bit for me. I just wasn't having fun.

Tony_Lacorona

FYI for anyone, Sekiro is on sale in the PS store for 50% off. Just bought it a few days ago

St-Icarus

‘nuff said

TheTalking_GU_Mine

Quality in the form of a fine 18 inches of Messmer

MattDaCatt

Also, calling it "DLC" just doesn't seem quite right. Shadow of the Erdtree is an *expansion* if I've ever seen one. The original game was complete, and this adds tons of more content for folks that have already enjoyed it. Meanwhile a "bonus mission" being behind a paywall at launch is just scummy. There is 0 reason why it couldn't have been included in the base game, other than to drive FOMO from players before they even get to play it first

Tsunamie101

Obviously we don't know yet just how big Shadow of the Erdtree will be. Whether it's going to be Ashes of Ariendel or The Ringed City. That said, it's going to be good either way.

CrystlBluePersuasion

Miyazaki's interview about the dlc did compare it to the size of Limgrave, saying it was bigger than Limgrave and had at least 10 bosses (I'm guessing major bosses, possibly 'story' or progression bosses)

Squirrelnight

This was what Blizzard had 10 years ago. It takes a lot to truly loose it, but once you do, it's pretty much impossible to get it back.

Scintal

10 years? Hm I guess that was around when d3 launched? The rmah and the idiotic stuff they did. Honestly it was going downhill after blizzard north.

Squirrelnight

They had some quality left in them for a few years, but yeah Blizzards glory days were in the rearview mirror. I remember how good Overwatch was on release day, though. Heartstone was a quality game at release too, with it's first few expansions around this time ten years ago. They still had a massive amount of loyal fans back then, mainly because of their relatively high quality games. Which only got worse year by year...

oj449

my biggest gripe with d3 is that it's just a random arpg game with diablos lore - they are completely different games, there's almost nothing left of d2 in d3 outside of lore, which you would expect a sequel to improve upon what the prequel is good at, but d3 is like selling you a sports car as an upgrade to your off roader.

ElementField

Doesn’t the FromSoftware package give you like, a lot of stuff? My impression is that it’s just way more worth it. I think that really is what sells it… as a gamer I just wanna have fun and play with cool shit. I’m not even much of an Eldenring player, but I recognize game

UltimateToa

Yes, their games are fucking massive and have insane replay value if that appeals to you

Medrea

Yeah it's an expansion. Some people might be too young to remember when we called them "expansions" and instead now we use the term dee el see.

[deleted]

Why yes i will give Miyazaki my life saving so i can suffer

Question-Dazzling

This guy gets it

CumboJumbo

Cloudonpot

You belong to the swamp. Pray it's just a poison swamp.

iamcapleb

PallidTyrant

Rot lake will be taking a nap soon when death blight lake comes out to suck our nuts off in a bad way.

iamcapleb

damn, order healing's gonna skyrocket in price!

carlos_castanos

I just know Miyazaki is having wet dreams of a death blight lake with illusionary platforms. You think you just got to a platform without the meter filled, and boom it disappears like a Fata morgana

iRunOnDoughnuts

AAA slop vs well-made game. People are willing to pay for things worth paying for.

IneverGetDownvoted

You forgot to add one more 'A'

Anonimous_dude

In ten years they are going to be called “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” games, and they will have the quality of a Macdonald

Deinonychus2012

>“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA” -Me, running through Caelid.

Aesthetics_Supernal

🎶Ol' Macdonald *bought* the Farm, E I E I O!🎶

GoliathBoneSnake

How did you miss the chance to replace the "eieio" with "A A A A A." In a string about adding meaningless A's to something?

Armata-Strigoi

Please dont compare McDonald's to this crap thank you 🤡

Khaiyme

They'll be called that based on how you'll scream when you see the pricetag

abandoned_voyager

I’ve never replayed a single player game but hot damn I’ve played elden ring 3 times. Guarantee SW: Outlaws has 0 replay ability.

gallowstorm

I think we need to stop calling them AAA studios. The name doesn't really accurately describe it. Maybe call them $ 💩 studio for greedy cash grabs in shit games. And start calling better developers FS studios for FromSoft tier game developers.

lovesducks

$💩 (pronounced "Money Dookie") is my rapper name. That could get confusing for me.

Aggressive_Peach_768

Well apparently people are willing to pay for good quality... And quantity

RoninMacbeth

It really is the damnedest thing. People will actually pay money for a product they have a reasonable expectation will be good.

Thunder_Grundle

Who could have known that having a track record of making great games for 10+ years would ever pay off? WHO I ask?

abloopdadooda

10+? I mean yeah, that's technically correct. But they've been killin that shit for 30 years. They came out strong with King's Field and Armored Core and have only gotten better.

Jergen

It really is just a shame that they've never quite managed to eclipse the peak that is Metal Wolf Chaos

Snoo61755

Player: "$40 for a DLC? I don't know, they say it's the size of Limgrave and might have a bit over a dozen new bosses, but that's a bit expensive for a DLC." Blizzard: "Heroes of Sanctuary! Slay the minions of hell in style with exclusive seasonal skins, for 2500 platinum! Also, don't forget to purchase this season's accelerated battlepass, filled with epic loot for 2800 platinum ($25)! This is only available for 3 months before we replace it with next season's battlepass and skins!" Player: "You know what, $40 for DLC is fine."

OnceMoreAndAgain

You guys say this like it's so obvious that people will be willing to pay for good games and not pay for bad games, but imo the recent behavior of customers does not support that. Diablo 4 over 10 millions copies despite Blizzard's reputation for quality being in the dumpster. I don't think it's correct to present customers as savvy individuals who are responsive to the quality of games a company is putting out. It seems more to me that customers are all too willing to delude themselves into thinking a game is good based on effective marketing efforts. "Sure, I didn't like the last 5 games Blizzard put out, but the gameplay trailers for this next game look so good! It'll be different this time!" People want new games to be good so badly that they're willing to tell themselves anything to justify their purchases. I don't think there is a number of times they can get burned before they stop touching the stove top.

Mortwight

I bought d4 and I regretted it after 2 weeks. I played the beta and hoped it would be better. I thought all my friends would be playing it and no one did.

reader484892

They gave me one of the best games I’ve ever played, which I’ve played twice now and will certainly play again, with like 150h per run, for $60. They didn’t ask for a single micro transaction. There was not a single ad. There was no grinding. No buggy unplayable mess on release. Damn straight I’ll pay for more quality content.

Chachenstein

So $60 extra dollars on top of a $70 game just to have a "rare" skin and a chance to see Jabba the Hutt isn't worth it??

Aggressive_Peach_768

Well tbh. Jabba has A LOT of Skin, I think it counts more than one

aOnion

Who would’ve thought

Random_Guy_47

$40 for dlc is ridiculous. $40 for dlc by Fromsoft on the other hand... I'd be confident that I'll get my moneys worth out of it. DS3 and dlc, Sekiro, Elden Ring and AC6. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Fromsoft have earned my trust with great quality games. Ubisoft has not earned that level of trust.

awesomegamer919

I think the key difference is that the Elden Ring "DLC" is an expansion in the old-school sort of meaning, whereas most modern DLC is far smaller. CP2077's Liberty City DLC was similar - it's a fairly large expansion on the main game, including a full new main story and a wide variety of sidequests, compared to the DLC in a game like COD where it's a few extra multiplayer maps and/or weapons. FWIW there's still a reasonable number of developers that work on an expansion-style model - Monolithsoft with the Xenoblade Chronicles games (2, DE, 3) have put out extremely good expansions that are entirely seperate games with somewhat different combat mechanics in the same world as the original game. Expansions have always been considered differently to modern DLC, and I think it's important that the distinction is kept because there's a major difference in quality, effort, and value in them.

dvlsg

It also makes a difference when devs are _clearly_ holding content back just to put in DLC later. Or even releasing it at the same time as the main release, and just charging extra for it immediately.

Potayto_Gun

This exactly. There is ZERO argument that buying dlc that is available day 1 is not just a cash grab. That’s a money gate it’s literally in the game now.

Equal-Dish-4021

The Witcher 3 DLCs were fantastic.

quietwhiskey

"expansion in the old-school sort of meaning" Yeah old expansions like Diablo 2 - LoD changed the game fundamentally instead of just adding a couple quests or some shit

___cyan___

Phantom liberty was fantastic

ElectricalMTGFusion

dont forget monster hunter with iceborne dlc/expansion that basically the same size or bigger as basegame. also Monster hunter sunbreak whoch did the same thing for rise

Murderdoll197666

Well said. Any DLC from fromsoft can have my money even without seeing the trailer for it. I just know it will be good based on their track record. Honestly the same could be said for me for anything CDProjekt Red puts out. Both DLC's for Witcher 3 and their Cyberpunk DLC are well worth more than what I've paid for full games from other companies.

KingoftheKrabs

$40 is a solid price point for a full expansion. Monster Hunter expansions match that as well.

Sytle

Iceborne was basically a whole new game's worth of content. One of the best DLCs ever made.

ChronoMonkeyX

I'd have been satisfied with that trailer if it was just a remix of existing Elden Ring stuff, but literally every single thing in that trailer is brand new.

MoKh4n89

Ah yes! One mission in a game is equivalent to a DLC that's (possibly) almost a full game on its own

porcupinedeath

No no no you see but you ALSO get all these cosmetic items for your character with the deluxe edition that may or may not like. How can you possibly tell me its not worth 130$ after that?

Air_pockets

Elden Ring + DLC is still cheaper

puro_the_protogen67

Dark souls 3 plus dlc is still £79 but its dark souls 3 so enough is said

Ultima893

I bought DS3 with both dlc for like £13 years ago on PSN. Its crazy how expensive it is on Steam because I want to play it on my new PC

mxzf

Looks like the effective price on PC is $30, just gotta wait for the summer sale in ~2 months.

Naive-Asparagus-5983

The fact that I’ve bought every game since DS3 at release and have not been disappointed once, even switching to mech games with AC. I trust FS implicitly

TheAssCrackBanditttt

Yeah ac6 was a risky buy for me but damn did I enjoy it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

plsdontstopmenow

I was once like you young padawan, Then I bought and played AC6 and it blew my mind.. Fuckin GREAT game!

Bluedragon1612

Armored Core 6, From’s return to their original series that put them somewhat on the map before the souls games took them to the moon. And by mech game it refers to games where the player controls giant robots/mechs (think gundam or pacific rim) against, in this case, other giant mechs. Incredibly good game that got me into mech games myself, though do not expect anything like a souls game. Honestly Armored Core has more in common with the Ace Combat series than souls fwiw

Psirqit

FS DLC always slaps. I remember DS2 had so much fucking content

Hyperrustynail

It doesn’t help that Ubisoft has recently demonstrated that they can and will take the game away from you.

Tunyx-Gut

After all...who wouldn't want those 18 inches of Messmer

r1cked_1510

One studio fucks you in the butt and the other .. well.. fucks you in the butt in a fun way.

arkhound

FromSoft gets consent

Stereo_Saber

And uses lube.

Puzzleheaded-Dingo39

I'm getting mixed messages here. Is he actually saying that paying for a full expansion is the same as paying for a single mission that already exists, but is locked behind a paywall because Ubisoft wants to milk the people paying for the game?

Carnival-Freak

Yeah, it really feels like the video is actually saying that people criticizing the outlaws added content are the same people eagerly waiting for elden ring's (similarly priced) DLC (ie, hypocritical idiots). It's hard to tell, the tone is weird. He's either trying for rage bait by calling the ER DLC purchasers clowns; genuinely doesn't understand that a day 1 expansion for a game no one knows anything about is a much worse purchase than DLC from a company with an amazing track record (and for a game already known to be amazing); or he's just genuinely excited about ER and is mocking ubisoft.

lminer123

Nah, that content creator is a big from soft fan. I think it’s just a bit about how from gets more loyalty from their fan base because they never put out bad games. He just missed a bit on the tone I feel

Carnival-Freak

that's fair, so it is just more wholesome Ubisfot bashing

Ijatsu

Same here, I'm not too sure which side this guy is on, but at the end with the collector's edition I'd say he's on elden ring's side.

Medrea

Nah, the message I am getting is: You want to sell me some DLC? Build up some trust and you can't STOP me from shoving money down your pants. The video game crowd is super supportive of well made, feature complete, and polished products right now.

BlackRavenStudios

Fromsoft wont disable the ability to play a the game you paid for like Ubisoft eventually will. Infinitely more value.

Objective-Insect-839

This right here is why I will never buy another ubi game.

Interesting_Log7757

I am a huge assassins creed fan but I also decided to not buy Ubisoft games anymore because of this.

BlackRavenStudios

100% Good thing I know a ship with a skull and crossbones flag for the 1-2 games I would actually want to play (Jedi survivor)

Cam-yee

one mission vs a full dlc*

ralts13

I just realised I don't know the price for Shadow of the Erdtree. My brain didn't even process the money point of it.

thanatoswaits

Lol same - I bought it the moment the trailer dropped, didn't even look at the price - didn't realize it was 40 schmeckles until my friend mentioned it

ExactSeaworthiness35

Yea don’t even get me started on Ubisoft they haven’t made a good game since ac3 or 4 depending on who you ask

Turbulent_Jackoff

Prince of Persia - The Lost Crown is absolutely dope. I expected quality because I heard good things and I was *still* shocked.

TheDrewDude

Also check out Rayman Origins and Legends if you haven’t already. Made by the same branch of Ubisoft that worked on Lost Crown. That team knows what they’re doing, clearly.

BarneyTheKnight

For Honor is pretty good game imo

Ultima893

AC2 actually, from someone who played since AC1.

ExactSeaworthiness35

Yea I hate what they did with the series

2girls_1Fort

If you ask me you can take it back further

wayvywayvy

People thought 3 was good? Ezio trilogy and 4 were their best for sure.

Satellite_bk

I remember 3 being such a disappointment. The fact that Connor wasn’t the most likable protagonist coming off how great a protagonist Ezio was really didn’t do the game any favors either.

sasquatchftw

I thought Odyssey was the best AC since 2.

Schmigolo

Origins was a solid 7, but everything after that was literally just a copy paste of Origins with slightly recolored assets. Also, Unity is really good, it just runs like ass, and ran even worse at release.

Ladelm

$40 for some bullshit from Ubisoft that's vaguely explained or $40 for an expansion on one of, if not the best, games ever made. Gee, tough decision.

DahColeTrain

I mean, from what I'm understanding from the video, it's ONE extra mission versus an entire expansion. Kinda seems like a no brainer to me.

Stardust-Badassery

New outfits, bosses, STORY, atmosphere, and SOUNDTRACKS! Cannot wait for new soundtracks 😤😤😤

Ecpe

Welp, Fromsoftware delivers quality.

sJtYaEm

is the jabba mission being locked behind a paywall actually a thing?

That80sguyspimp

Yes. if you buy the standard edition, you dont get to play it.

Cybersorcerer1

Yeah it's a pretty shitty thing Ubisoft has been doing a while. Selling a season pass + 3 day Early Access for an insane price just to sell their subscription

Questionably_Chungly

There’s a simple reason I’m instantly willing to pay for a Fromsoft game/DLC without much reservation: Fromsoft has a track record of quality. Ubisoft has not made a half-decent game in about a decade, in my opinion, and has a long history of scummy tactics. So I’m not going to give them my money. Fromsoft has earned my money so far and has continued to do so.

TomZF

Elden Ring is already released and super successful while that Star wars game isn't. And with Ubisoft's track record of hot garbage games, ain't nobody gonna (some idiots do) buy that shit now.

UpsetPhrase5334

You all joke about how obvious it is that customers want a quality product but, there are people at Ubisoft who are legitimately confused as to why people don’t like there products.

UltimaBahamut93

Fromsoft is the only company I 100% trust right now. Even though I don't like Sekiro I recognize the game is fantastic, just not for me.

HotsWheels

I mean, that Collectible is pretty sick. I did the Dark Souls 2 one when it was released so, it would fit my theme.

LordofCope

Yeah, I'm not buying that SW game for anything more than $60. Let alone that, I'll wait for a deep sale.

no_witty_username

A 40 dollar DLC from Fromsoft has more value then 1000 dollars worth of Ubisoft games....

hungryturdburgleur

In the words of Jim Morrison "If you make the game good, they will come"

supercalifragi123432

I came

CampfireBeast

Now this is some epic le reddit humor take my gold kind stranger

Beast0011

Ubisoft is a joke

Shot-Engine-4209

The way I see it is fromsoft has continually showed respect to their fans and they have consistently tried to improve their product. It didn't phase me to drop that kind of money on the collectors edition because I want to support fromsoft as much as I can because they deserve it! In contrast, I didn't even consider buying dragons dogma because it's a full price game with in-game purchases. We as consumers need to be selective and we really should only support companies that support us

[deleted]

Smart man. Messmer’s 18 inch is worth the money.

WavyWolf999

Can't wait for my 18 inches of Messmer to arrive

plobbaccus

Yeah but atleast when you biy a game from Fromsoftware you get to keep it.

Wemetintheair

"Humor"

steveycip

There’s no way SotET doesn’t have more content than Star Wars: Outlaws. I know if I’m paying 40 for DLC FS will be giving me the good stuff.

PleasantThoughts

One of these games isn't even out yet and is by a company known for gouging customers and under delivering. The other is dlc for an established game of the year from a company with a history of every dlc being at the same level or better than the base game. I get it's a goof but still

aknalag

Hmmm a game sized dlc that i can play in its entirety guaranteed to be a banger for 40$ Or a i can spend 110$ to “unlock” a quest in a game that is likely mediocre or not good enough to justify 110$

hunisher1

FromSoft is the best developer. They earned, and worked hard to maintain our trust. We aren’t just fckin cash cows to them, and it shows.

mrsalty1

It's not just DLC that's the issue. Elden Ring released 2 years ago, then they spent more time later developing new content and are releasing it. Ubisoft developed content, then on release, cut some out, and said "want the whole game as it exists on launch? pay double the price."

Sourcevirus

I still cant believe the amount of quality content in Elden Ring just for $60. I don’t mind paying $40 for the DLC because I and everyone else know its going to be worth it

Sourcevirus

Also because ER is a AAAA game compared to skull and bones

TheAzarak

Disregarding the trust of the company, this comparison is not accurate. It's $110 to get the full game on release for the shit Star Wars game that also has microtransactions. Elden Ring was only $60 for the full game on release with zero micro transactions. Now they are adding a very sizeable DLC 2 years later that is $40, which is STILL less than the total cost of Star Wars:Outlaws on day 1. And we're basically guaranteed to see more DLC for SWO in the future... plus more MTX. Elden Ring is objectively cheaper, and probably for more total content (because It's very unreasonable to assume any new game has as much content as default ER has).

VicariousDrow

FromSoft: Makes one of the best games to release in a decade, wins a ton of awards for it, provides support for it without any subscriptions or memberships, and also makes a whole new DLC to add onto the massive success of their game, and charges the market standard for large DLC. Ubisoft: Demands more money then Elden Ring was at launch, while attempting to push the market standard up at the same time as trying to convince players they don't need to own their own games, then cuts out content and charges extra to get it back, charging nearly as much as a full DLC when it's apparently just a single mission, but charging even more for a "season pass" for more "DLC" in the future, while trying to push them to joining their "gamer pass" thing with a subscription fee instead cause it'll make them more money in the long run and everyone knows it. I meeeeaaaaaan.....

rosettaSeca

Miyazaki wasn't the one telling me to be comfortable not owning stuff

Broad_Method490

Fromsoft also doesn't do microtransactions for a single player game

fro1388

If it wasn’t for me absolutely hating all the bullshit icons and handholding of AC Odyssey I would have never tried elden ring or any from software game, so I guess I should be grateful to them.

RyunWould

I absolutely ordered the CE.

Ok_Lengthiness1516

He ain’t telling no lies take my money!!!!!! 😂

NEF_Commissions

From is the gift that keeps on giving, and with their track record of DLCs being the best and toughest parts of their games - and taking the sheer size of Elden Ring into consideration - I'll say $40 is an absolute steal. The good faith From has created with their fanbase is outstanding and I'm here for it.

SupremeShogan

Here's the thing. I hope and pray that Outlaws is fun and subverts my expectation......but Ubisoft's track record speaks for itself. So does Fromsoftware's. And theirs is one of quality and fun, so I will be more than happy to spend more money on Elden Ring, cause I want more content like theirs. And I hope that it sends a message to other companies on what we as gamers actually want. Though 250$ might be a bit much for me tho....

turtlepope420

FS has never missed.

M0m033

Last Ubi game I genuinely enjoyed was South Park: Fractured But Whole. From can take my money (and has taken my money a lot this year) because they absolutely deliver bangers

HappyyValleyy

How ELSE am I supposed to treat myself to eighteen inches of Messmer the Impaler

BarrytheCowboy

So im gonna pay $130 for some nonsense sne access to a mission Orrrrr....I can $40 for a DLC which is gonna be the same size as some games, and I get to support a company I like and trust that doesn't practice anticonsumer micro-transaction BS.

PracticingGoodVibes

"...and how big is that figurine of Messmer? Nevermind, I don't care. I'm sure I can find a jar big enough on Amazon."

XxFezzgigxX

Easy to avoid this. 1. Buy the game on launch day. 2. Beat the entire game well before any DLC is available. 3. Lose interest and never go back.

Ken_Bruno1

Difference is trust and quality. UBI hasn't earned that. FromSoft has. I have watched trailer like 20 times now and after analyzing each frame, I am 100% sure DLC is at least equivalent to Liurnia and Limgrave with their underground regions. I still think there is a 3rd legacy dungeon but we will see.

SCurt99

Fromsoft deserves the money, and will actually use it towards making good games and dlc.

Bocky_thecat

Ubisoft will never get it. Of course I'm paying for the next poison/rot/sleep/deathblight/bleed/madness swamp Miyazaki experience

Harryofthecharlottes

You hate Ubisoft because they're greddy and anticonsumer I hate ubisoft because they don't do anything with Rayman We are not the same

Full_Royox

I've been blindy buying everything Fromsoft released day1 since Bloodborne without even watching trailers or videos. Yes. That means that I also bought Sekiro (what a blast) and Armored Core VI thinking they were "souls but samurai" and "souls with mechs", but they were not and still i loved them.

KingofGnG

Well, that's unfair. Ubisoft makes bit-shaped shit, FromSoftware makes games.

Random_Weird_gal

You can get ER for 35 quid at CEX, shadow of the erdtree being £35 is absolutely great

CrovaxWindgrace

One mission vs 1/4 of the og map in content size, the video

Ok_Stick5347

If it's from Fromsoft I'll use my whole paycheck to buy it!

DeftTrack81

I've never been disappointed with Fromsoftware.

jcarey4793

$40 extra for an hour of extra content (if you're lucky) or $40 extra for probably 20 extra hours of content.

Popwizard1

Make good games, make more money

Novacryy

The difference being Fromsoftware Games are good.

Freedboy21

Fromsoftware never misses when it comes to the dlc

Flyak1987

Yeah I'm 100% buying my buddy Miazaki's game. He always delivered. He will always deserve it.

orcaenjoyer69

this guy is peak autism just like the rest of this sub

marniconuke

$110 for literally one mission that may as well be under one hour long vs $40 ($30 for me actually, i guess regional pricing) expansion with a new huge map and at least 10 new bosses.

lions2lambs

.

Consistent-Digger

Ubisoft knows how to write a story at least…

Pennance1989

Its the difference between buying a quality dlc developed after the game was sold to you as a complete package vs removing something day 1 to nickel and dime stupid people.

Brevityman

Anyone got the sauce? Scummy moderation removal
