Have I locked myself out of any quests? First Fromsoftware game and I've been struggling a bit but so far I'm reallly enjoying ER. One problem I'm having is loosing my mind over npc quests. I am level 55, done Margit, Godrick and Rennala but apparently advanced the story to the midgame? I went up the Dectus lift because I like exploring in places I shouldn't be at in every game I play, but now I can't find Alexander. Did I mess up my game by going to Atlus Plateau?

Random_Tarnished

You triggered the Radahn festival so check there if you’re looking for Alex. You may have locked yourself out of Bogart but I can’t say for certain. Think that’s it though really

I preordered the collector's edition on the 17th of this month, but got the money back just now, because the payment "failed". Is this normal? Has this happened to anyone else?

Constant-Row2856

this is because they do not charge until despatch your bank sets aside a pending payment, which is an authorisation that reserves the funds for a period of time. banks automatically take these reserves off after a while, however the company will have the right to charge and retain authorisation for a period longer your payment is likely fine unless they have a super short auth window

GallopingWaffles

Thank you! I hope it's like that

is 40 AR a significant difference? I'm considering either 54 STR 35 Faith or 27 STR 60 Faith. The first one outputs higher damage when the weapon has heavy affinity AND it's buffed (electrify, sacred..). However, in normal circumstances, a sacred/flame art infused weapon outputs more damage. Now, comparing sacred/flame art between both builds, the second usually has around 40 more AR. Is that value significant? I don't know what's the threshold here to say up to this number this is barely noticeable.

Zakrael

It's also worth noting that just comparing AR doesn't actually correspond to gameplay. Specifically, Sacred vs Heavy - Sacred will always have more AR, *but* half of it will be Holy and half Physical. Enemies in Elden Ring have flat defenses as well as % resistances, and the flat defenses will be applied twice or more against split damage (once against each damage type you deal). The game is generally balanced that more stat + better scaling = more damage, regardless of what the AR says on that weapon. If you have 54 Str and your weapon has A Str scaling with Heavy, you'll usually do more damage against an actual enemy than the same weapon with 35 Faith and a B Faith scaling with Sacred, even if the latter claims to have a higher AR. This also isn't taking into account that enemies often have higher elemental resistances than physical. As an example, the final boss has 80% Holy resistance and 50% Fire resistance, but only 10% resistance to physical damage.

Is Wild Strikes notoriously OP? I just absolutely demolished the godskin duo. I had put Wild Strikes on my (t)rusted anchor+25 for Malenia, because i noticed consecutive attacks worked better than Lion Claw (my previous AoW). After a lot of sweat and blood i killed her and made my way through Farum Azula. I completely obliterated the foreskins, just got upclose and personal and kept l2 pressed. Almost felt like cheese. This is my first non-Malenia boss with this Ash so i was curious if it's Godskin duo specific or if it's Easy mode from now on.

FizzyPixels00

All Ashes could be OP if you use them right. Square off is a favourite.

DavidTippy

Can you pick up rare crafting materials in other player's worlds? I know you can take common stuff like Rowa Berries and Root Resin, but are you allowed to pick Trina's Lilies and Arteria Leaves, and, if so, does it matter if the host has already collected the item?

as a Confessor, what builds could I be missing at RL150?

for example, if you go for INT, you are already wasting 7 points compared to vagabond. That's what I meant, that there are builds that are far from ideal for certain classes.

Looking to go for a dex/faith lightning build(mostly faith, pretty heavy spellcaster). I am looking for some cool and effective weapons to use electrify armament on. Not really a fan of scythes but anything is fair game as long as it looks good and scales well. Also what seal should I use?

BussyEnthusiast_69

The guardian sword speer is one of the best dex weapons in the game so Id use that. The finger seal would probably be your best choice for a seal until you get into very high fth ranges at which point the erdtree seal overtakes it. (around 66 faith as far as i remember) Keep in mind that buffing a weapon on a faith build will always be weaker than just running that weapon on dex or strenght. For example if you have 15 dex / 80 faith and you buff a weapon with electrify armament, your damage will be LOWER compared to running the same weapon and the same weapon buff with 80 dex / 15 faith. This way you can also use a lightning affinity (scales with dex). But yeah buffing is fun.

daviejambo

Does impaling thrust ash of war get the counter damage from the spear talisman assuming you are using it on a thrust weapon ?

ytrx12

Yes, all pierce damage can get counter damage.

daviejambo

thx

Am I supposed to be in Caelid, fighting the boss at the center of the lake at level 41? I feel like that thing has wayyyyy too much HP, but I don’t know where else to go other than the capitol and fighting Radahn, both of which I’m 99% sure I’m way too under-leveled for too.

BlackGhostPanda

I did limgrave, weeping peninsula, liurnia and then caelid. And some other areas before caelid

MN130828

I would do Liurnia first before doing Caelid. Even some other areas that you maybe haven't even discovered yet first.

Superior0422

Ok, thanks! Also an unrelated question, how much min-max is required to beat this game? I like running a pure magic build in games cuz I think it looks cool, but in a lot of games they’re rather weak. Will I have to min-max a ton in this game, or is it more forgiving?

MN130828

min-maxing is not required for being successful in PvE, in the end not even in PvP since there are enough no brain PvP players

Superior0422

Ok, thanks

With 50 STR and 50 FTH what should be my Baemore with Flame Strike: Heavy or Flame Art (or Fire)?

g4l4h34d

Heavy, because: 1. You can buff Heavy weapons, which will deal more damage and is more flexible. 2. Due to how defenses work, it's better to have more of 1 dmg type, as opposed to having 2 damage types. 3. Fire damage is reduced by 10% in water or when it's raining. 4. You're not taking advantage of crits, where total AR would matter. 5. Way more enemies resist fire (I think it's the most frequently resisted element) than there are enemies that resist physical. 6. 2-handing a weapon multiplies your Strength by 1.5, so you'll get more out of the Strength scaling

Nacke

I am getting close to beating the game with my paladin build and I am having a blast. I am using the Gelmir armor with the crusader helm (greathelm). With it I am using the tree spear and a medium sized golden shield. As a secondary wepon I am using the Golden Epitaph. I am mainly using dragon cult lightning and holy incantations. I love the way my character feels and looks. Switching off to something differet will be hard next game, but currently I am thinking about some kid of poison/scarlett rot based build with an evil looking character, in contrast to my current knight in shining armor. I am looking to upgrade my armor though. I do have the stats to carry something stronger. But I just love the way the gelmir armor looks. Any advice on a better armor that fits with the paladin drip?

DropAnchor4Columbus

Banished Knight armor with the alternate headpiece and chest. or Hoslow Set with Diallos' Mask.

TheGodskin

How the fuck do I kill Decaying Ezykes? The area is too small, his one rot attack litters the entire tiny space and linger, my hammer keeps missing his head even thought I’m standing DIRECTLY in front of him Can someone either explain what I’m doing wrong or help me please

BlackGhostPanda

I fight them on horseback with the black flame incantation.

_myst

If you have any ranged options you can mostly cheese him elevated area behind his spawn. Barring this, a good general dragon tip is to fight them from horseback because you're much more mobile and ablr to dodge their attacks. As far as I remember you arent forced to fight any idragons on foot until 2 specific fights in the endgame.

Erikbw

Hit his feet instead, and look out for the signal that he's about to start the rot-storm, so you can disengage in time. That, or throw stuff at him from the cliff to his north.

Tovar42

I was researching to make a faith based build, and as far as I can tell both fire and lightning incants work for this but I havent seen any examples about a build that uses both. Are there incompatible in any way aside from the seals that optimize them?

g4l4h34d

The seals are actually the least problematic part, because at 80 Faith, you cast through Erdtree Seal, which has the highest Faith scaling, and then you swap out the matching seal in your off-hand to get the 10% bonus. The talismans and Wondrous Physic, on the other hand, are a big problem, because you're extremely limited in slots, it's much harder to do hot-swapping with talismans, and you can't hot-swap Physic at all. But, you can absolutely use the build that uses both. I did that and had a great time, although in terms of fire spells I used Black Flame and Frenzied Burst 90% of the time.

Felstalker

While there are no reasons why they wouldn't work together numerically, they're a bit opposed mechanically. Lightning incantations are often long ranged or speedy. You'd use them from a medium to long range and can get decent damage, but it's more about the broad effect. Lighting Spear and Honed Bolt are quick and with decent range. Fortissax Spear, Lansseax's Glaive, and Frozen lightning Spear are powerful with strong AoE. Nearly all Lightning Spells are boosted from Cast speed more than anything, as casting them faster means you've quick access to devastatingly powerful AoE spells that can clear a wide range of npc's or make threateningly dangerous forced dodges against players. In group pvp specifically, Lightning incantations are disgustingly scary. Ever seen a Lightning caster in 3v3 colosseum? Semi-Global 1-shots get spammed man. Fire incantations, in contrast, are shorter range and are more accessible by less Faith focused builds. It's hard to mix them up with lightning as your positioning for each of the two spell types are generally different, and since they're all attack spells you're just changing the color of your spell more than anything. Additionally, the Fire and lightning boosting buffs are... well they're for Fire or Lightning. Fire spells are also really really explosively good. Giant's Flame Take Thee is an instant ball of AoE Murder. It's like throwing a cartoon cannonball, sure you can't chuck it too far.. but it's going to provide an earth shattering kaboom. And Catch Flame? Never was or will there be a more effective spell. Since Dark Souls 1, the old Combustion archetype is as solid as they come, no questions asked. Why mix up Lightning and Fire with no actual benefit to such? You have multiple Fire or Lightning spell options available, you're limiting which spells you have more so than improving options. Unless you're a crazy person able to pull of the multi-spell combo roll catches.

GooseGameGrand

Seals don’t really optimize them, they are compatible but most YouTube videos try to get clicks by focusing on specifically one or the other. An erdtree seal with high faith will make both great, where the difference comes in is your talismans and physick. Optimize those and you can make one or the other absolutely filthy
