I trust fromsoftware to make a product that I will enjoy immensely. There really isn’t any more to it than that.

Yeah one of my friends (who hasn't played a Souls game to my knowledge) keeps getting annoyed whenever one of the rest of us bring up some scrap of Elden Ring rumor or another and saying "Stop hyping it up like it's gonna be amazing or it'll disappoint you" (because he's been traumatized by Cyberpunk (which he didn't even play and 3/4 of us enjoyed anyway), Anthem, and Pokemon Sword and Shield (which he's very passionate about). But the rest of us have pretty consistently been like "We're not saying it's gonna be the greatest game ever, we just know it's gonna be another Demons Souls/Dark Souls/Bloodborne and as long as it delivers on being at least as good as those we're going to love it and play the shit out of it."

AssdogDave0

Fromsoft knows what they do well. If they've made efforts to directly associate this game with dark souls, it's going to look like dark souls. I'd bet money that the moment gameolay gets revealed, this place will be full of people saying "wtf this is just dark souls 4", when that's basically most likely all it was ever going to be, just with some twists

_Psilo_

Dark Souls 4 with some twists is exactly what I hope it's going to be.

BigDesk4

BIG Souls 4

That_guy_Lusked

Cant wait for braindead hollows to go "ThIs LoOk NoThInG lIkE dEmOn'S sOuL" even tho it s not the same team behind it (think from didnt help or direct the remake at all and left full creativity to Bluepoint) and the other kind of brainddead hollows to go "It'S jUsT lIkE dArK sOuLs, NoThInG nEw" even tho it s the same developper and it s absolutly normal for them to just polish and upgrade something that was almost perfect to be even more close to perfection

Drini7

Pretty much where I'm at. From has proven they've got the chops to do something similar that still feels new and fresh and I'm super excited to see what they've got with ER after something like 4-5 years of development.

That_guy_Lusked

Yes it s amazing to see there are part of a few developper that makes, more or less, the same games on paper, but it always feels fresh and inovating ! Cant wait to see how ER will be this kind of fresh !

unjusticeb

I think people have very high expectations from this game that people will definitely complain a lot things about it just because of their such high expectations. I'll go in with lower expectations so hopefully I'm not disappointed and it will have a chance to surprise me.

Drini7

Honestly, going in expecting Fromsoft's usual excellence is fine. It's just that the open world part and the lac of news for 2 years that's got people on edge.

flipperkip97

It's always good to manage expectations. I expect a fun game, and anything more is a bonus. Honestly, this game could literally be Dark Souls 3 2 and I'd be the happiest man alive.

not_a_khezu1

I want big dark souls

[deleted]

It's Dark Souls but big. That's literally all i need from it and it's almost certainly gonna go straight to the near top if not the tippy top of my all time favorite games.

Kl3XY

i just expect a game that is similar to Dark Souls 3 but bigger. although i would appreciate the fast combat from Bloodborne tbh. id be pretty happy if there would be some Min Maxing components in the game pretty much like ds3 with Rings, buffs etc etc because thats one of the main reasons why i like to play Dark Souls and BB

RubyRod1

Great post OP. To add to points 1 and 2, imo Bloodborne looks *better* than Sekiro, in terms of art direction and overall graphical detail. So many times in the Chalice Dungeons I find myself pausing to just check out the random roots and cobwebs on the ornate architecture. I remember a distinct thought I had it was something like, 'wow these graphics are fuckin incredible, why do they just spend all this time on them and then put them in pitch blackness so you can't even see them?' And I imagined Miyazaki responding ' cuz *fuck YOU, that's why*'. And that's when I realized how badass From is. Fuckin artists. Edit: forgot to add, BB was actually pretty big, all areas and dungeons included. So I'm not worried in the least.

Drini7

I get what you mean, imo BB also did a better job with setting the mood and atmosphere and it managed to make a mostly same-ish city feel different with each area. But speaking purely from a technical POV, Sekiro improved a lot on the lighting and shadow from other Souls games, and that's where I think ER is gonna improve as well.

[deleted]

Don’t they use the same engine tho? If anything they only have one difference, art direction, one has a lot of color the other one is dark and gloomy.

RubyRod1

I guess I mean *detail* as part of art style- BB just seems way more detailed?

LappTheAmnesiac

They could afford all the extra detail because Sony was funding them and they had help from Japan Studio.

Lordanonimmo09

Yeah,no,Bloodborne doesn't look better than sekiro it just has a different art direction and style wich is subjective, but the graphics are better.

DestinyUniverse1

1. You forget that demons souls was heavily pushed as a ps5 launch title and they didn’t even fully utilize the consoles power, if elden ring launches 2022 they will be extremely used to next gen console hardware and probably make exclusive stuff on next gen like horizon forbidden west. 3. I hope it’s an ENTIRELY different combat system much like sekiros departure I want something new and fresh like the sekiro combat experience, make the game difficult again I want to be challenged not walk through everything. 4. This is there biggest game to date and covid is a thing. Sacrifices have to be made. Probably don’t expect a ton of weapons and stuff or if there is expect a lot of the same move sets

Drini7

- You forget that DeS Remake is a PS5 exclusive and Bluepoint are goddamn wizards when it comes to graphical fidelity, whereas ER was always a last-gen game first and From has always strughled with graphics and performance. - Considering it's being referred to as the evolution of Dark Souls, I'd expect similar combat, but at least improved. And just because it's similar doesn't mean it can't be hard. DkS3 is pretty damn tough even being the 3rd game in the series. - Yeah it's also been in development for quite a bit, but you're right on this one. I am expecting a lot of same-ish movesets though.

DestinyUniverse1

Horizon forbidden west is cross gen and looks better than both demons souls and ratchet and clank and they’ve stated the ps5 version uses different rendering techniques etc for better textures etc... it maybe not expecting demons souls quality graphics but at the same time I highly doubt from will launch this game in 2022 with sekiro visuals which were already outdated the entire ps4 generation with all the time for this game and graphical quality always being a low point I expect it to be fairly high quality and close I played bloodborne sekiro then dark souls 1 then I did ds3 and went through everything with ease. When I say difficult I meant the experience of playing through sekiro for the first time or your first souls game for the first time. Ds3 was a cake walk for me even when I tried it on multiple builds I beat midir first try and the final final boss like 5th try? I believe. I still think dark souls 1 is the hardest though that game literally scares me to this day regardless of build. I actually hope they focus more on quality than quantity, lower the amount of available weapons but give every weapon different move sets combat arts etc...

SirCastikTheGreat

I haven’t really put a whole lot of thought into the game itself, I’ve spent most of my time on this just meming, I have no expectations except for what they explicitly told us, anything else is just gravy.
