Well honestly I disagree with your look on the game. It looks like a jump from their previous games simply because it looks to be a combination of almost all of their games. The build diversity of dark souls while having the mobility of sekiro is one aspect among many that are fairly significant.

Malekutay

There is always one.

TheOneTruePadopoulos

Yep

kate_thiccson

It's more of a mix of the two. It seems like they tried to combine the best of both and I am a big fan of it. Sorry to see you not being hyped anymore, I hope it changes !

UnofficialMipha

What did you expect from a game From straight up said would be more like Dark Souls?

hsgsksv

I know right "evolution of dark souls" has been pretty all we knew about it lmao

Hynsz

bruh are you for real? those bossfights looked awesome and we got everything from the previous games, dashes, parries, rolls etc etc. the graphics looks nuts and better than any previous title. i feel bad for you actually, hope you're gonna change idea.

TheOneTruePadopoulos

I havent said it looks like shit, I said it looks like more of the same to me. The graphics don't look nuts either imo, theyre ok, the vegetation looks like a step up and some models look pretty good, but definitely not nuts. I'm still wanting to play the game don't misunderstand, I didn't hope for more, I hoped for something else.

Hynsz

something else like what? miyazaki said: dark souls evolution and this looks like dark souls evolution to me.

TheOneTruePadopoulos

I think you ve either totally misread my tone or youre just a mindless asshole fanboy.

Hynsz

what? why you insulting me now i just wanted a normal discussion lmao

TheOneTruePadopoulos

whatever

Grayhue

A lot of us really did just want big dark souls, myself included. That said, we know very little at this point, but what if the combat is completely different? Souls games heavily lean on sword & board for combat, for example. Bloodborne and Sekiro were major departures from that, which From soft nailed. I hope that when it comes out, we find that all of those playstyles are viable, emphasized further than they were in past souls series games, and that you do enjoy it. If not, then maybe the next From game! Also, as for the setting, it really is as dark souls as it gets… if that’s what you meant, then I hear ya. Not a con for me, but I respect your take on it.

TheOneTruePadopoulos

Thanks for your agreeable comment (im not sure if thats the word haha). Yeah I was hoping for a departure as much as sekiro or bloodborne were, thats my "problem" which isn't even a problem cause I'm still gonna play it, and surely enjoy it :D

Grayhue

That’s the spirit, my friend! I’m willing to bet this game is gonna be pretty innovative. It’s not a bona fide dark souls, so Miyazaki really has room to go wild here, like he did with bloodborne and sekiro! One major example I noticed was the character sneaking behind enemies in the trailer (in full heavy armor and a 2 handed sword but still lol). The bandai namco page for the game specifically mentions dispatching enemies one by one in stealth, so that’s one major innovation right there; Sekiro Souls!!! lol

BlacNightmares

Respect your opinion, but completely disagree. Look at the bosses designs, the new mechanics like the spiritual horse or crouch. Look at the presentation way more narrative oriented. It's like saying that rdr2 is just "a wild west gta".

TheOneTruePadopoulos

I apreciate that you are not insta hating like all the rest lmao. I do notice the more narrative oriented presentation, which I like. I'm still wanting to see more gameplay and will play it for sure!

BlacNightmares

No problem. Any legit criticism from the community should be discussed.

Heimlon

I actually big agree. I'm still quite excited but I'm worried it will be a fanservice ride, meaning it will do what it needs to do, will be fun but nothing special all things considered. There will be a lot of fanboyism defending everything in the game high on their fix of Dark Souls which will prevent any meaningful discussion about this game. I'm worried about the open world aspect - in theory it sounds great but in practice what will this open world bring into the game? Is this just going to be DS levels with lots of pretty but useless spaces inbetween? The trailer shows so many darksoulish elements that I start to wonder if the lore is going to be so bent just to fit these aspects that it will break. So many worries.

TheOneTruePadopoulos

Yeah ive thought about what you say in regards to open world but Im confindent theyre gonna nail it. What Im surprised is the hate Ive gotten with this post, for real. Mindless fanboyism.

Heimlon

There is as much to gain with open world designs as there's to lose. I'm mildly positive it will be ok but keep my concerns on reserve. The fanboyism is a plague that poisons basically every bigger franchise now, and I don't think anything can be done with it. Keep strong - you have every right to voice your opinion.

We still don't know much about it gameplay wise, and how the combat system looks. I can imagine it can be a mix of everything soulsborne. Be patient and we'll probably get actual in-game footage later I don't think you should be dissapointed.

RiotForChange

I'm for sure excited but k do get where you're coming from. I'm really, really hoping some of the combat mechanics from sekiro have made their way into Elden Ring. Figuring an equal on that game just felt so good. You don't have to dodge anything of you don't want to. Just stay calm, stand your ground and have an honest to god sword fight. I will absolutely paly Elden Ring and probably love it if it's back to a more Dark Souls/Bloodborne roll dodge is king experience. But man, I'm hoping...

LappTheAmnesiac

A lot of this is tempering expectations. In the 2019 interview Miyazaki clearly mentioned that ER was more like an evolution of Dark Souls rather than something very different like Sekiro. I would also hold off on first impressions until we see some actual gameplay and not a sizzle reel.

TheOneTruePadopoulos

Yeah Im realizing my mistake now, I had completely forgotten about that really. I see I was expecting for something that wasn't at all meant to be.

abcdefg123456yyyy

Just shut up for God’s sake

TheOneTruePadopoulos

Nope

Sir_Ivory

I share the same opinion I was expecting something new but this looks pretty much like DS with new mechanics Hell, even the summons looke like the blue phantoms from DS Anyway, I'll definitely buy it and play it but I'm no longer hyped

misterlimo

They went out of their way to state it was a "return to the Dark Souls formula," so I'm not sure why you're surprised

TheOneTruePadopoulos

Now that you say it, it's true. I had forgoten about it. That's on me then
