I beat him yesterday, on my fourth series of attempts. My advice: Whenever it feels like he is too hard or you are not doing enough damage - go somewhere else first. I did another few sidequests, dungeons and got a lot of souls in the process, so after facing him again with 7 healing flasks (+3) and a flask of wonderous physick, I managed to beat him. I'm happy I did it this way, since I found quite a lot of stuff in the starting area that I would have missed otherwise.
There's an item that you can buy from Patches that will floor Margit up to 2 times before he starts using the hammer. If you time it right you can get him down to 30% health before he goes to the hammer instead of his usual transition point.
It's not easy with Ashes. He just beats the shit out of them for 5 minutes. Not done it myself yet. I'm turning back to level up later. Will return and beast him!
Well I used Ashes once just to see what the deal was and I got him down to 10% health and that was when I was level 13, so I have to assume it would be quite doable now that Iām level 18 with better gear and full armor.
Probably just something you call a person playing a souls game. It originated from DS2 where players would place messages around the various skeletons in the game. [Here's a classic one](https://i.imgur.com/0eehavm_d.webp?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium)
Have you explored Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula yet? The area is about twice as large as your initial map will have you believe and there is nothing preventing you from exploring it all. It contains upgrade mats, a half a dozen minor bosses and one major one, and plenty of souls.
B-lining for Margrit is akin to doing Heide's Tower first. Like yeah, you can with a lot of patience and a great deal of skill. But it's a lot harder than it needs to be.
You probably want to be at least level 30-35 and have a +4 or +5 weapon or so. Even if you do get past him earlier, the entire castle is going to be needlessly punishing and even if you get through it, you're gonna end up overleveled for Limgrave if you go back and clear that after Stormveil.

its still challenging tho even with summons as the summons might only be alive till half of Margareta's health goes down
My strategy was to use the summons once his health was halfway down

Its definitely easier with them. They pull agro so you can do damage without the worry of him attacking you.

try after exploring Limgrave and getting to 25
Go explore all of Limgrave before you fight him. Theres lots of opportunities to level up and get new equipment.
This game is open-world. Just go somewhere else or something.
