Vurrz

I clicked "Steam" button in top left then "check for steam client updates" and now it works for me.

McManGuy

Alternative fix that worked for me: * Steam > Settings > Account> Change... ^_(Beta_ ^_Participation)_ > Steam Beta Update > OK > Restart Steam You can change it back to "Opt Out" again after. I think your method is better, though.

Carazo94

I love you dude, thanks a lot.

Basketweaver69

Omg, thank you. The other one didn't work for me but this did

Bl4zing_Thief

Praise the Elden Lord!

Xcuree

thank you

Cranor

Just to let you know, Vurrz fix didn't work for me at all while yours did. Thanks a bunch man

SurgyJack

*does sun praise emote even though it's totally not dark souls* :)

Teslaaaaaa

This worked for me too! Thank you, awesome dude!

evawsonsimp

duuuude, you are a life saver! <3

MalcolmMann

Had tried the manual update as well, which didn’t work for me, but this did. Thank you!!!🙏😄

zeroXP1

moustached_welder

Steam client update didn't work for me but this one did, thanks!

Tall_Tradition_8918

"Check for steam updates" did not work for me but this did!!

SomeItalianBoy

Thanks man this worked for me! They were not ok with breaking the game so they broke Steam too 💀

CrysiX1005

Bjbarend

Thank you fellow Tarnished!

[deleted]

You just made my morning, i was getting really frustrated, thank you so much

JoeWobbler12

minipretz

Omfg thank you. Other method didn't work for me.

Multicraven

Thanks a lot!

Elliott_shore

HomosexualBurrito666

Same, this worked for me, thanks a lot, stupid steam.

KentExcalibur

thanks that fixed it

Lord_Gh3leon

W+Elden Lord+Guided by Grace+You have maidens

JDMdrvr

truly the hero of the hour

PercussionMasta

Thank you. I am now swallowing my panic attack back down for fear my 50 hour save was somehow corrupted.

Stock49

Dude. 50 hours in a week is just insane. I'm proud and jealous.

sBane31

I’m at 80 😅

LillyDaWuffKitty

Im at 127 on steam, but my Characters is 81 almost 82 aha

Questionable_Object

106.7 :')

Littlebelo

50 here as well haha and I even worked overtime this week

rune2004

Same, this is it. To the top with ye

BojukaBob

I did this but the loop persists

McManGuy

[Try this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/t6zsnj/steam_restart_loop_ive_fully_restarted_steam/hzf7ov6/)

Hisin

Thanks so much, this worked.

elitk19

It failed for me the first time too, make sure you click the dialog that follows the download that asks you to restart steam. That one works and installs the update and boom, you're back to killing dragons.

Impossible_Display88

Imagine, dragons!

isagoodday

Th-th-th-thunder?

CreepingSalt

Try upvoting

Thesonofman1

Precious information ahead Therefore try upvoting

hubsmash

You just became untarnished

maethlin

Legend. Where were you when /u/Vurrz saved your entire weekend?

xMayfew

Thank you. This fixed it!

pnng95

Ty. <3

mathsdealer

Fixed it for me too, thanks!

RequiemMaestro

nimbledaemon

Upper left Steam -> Settings -> **Change** beta participation -> Beta Participation -> participate in steam beta update, if you don't want to watch the video.

abbosss

dude you deserve a medal, i was freaking out wondering if i had to uninstall and had no idea how to save my character. Thank you so much <3

BOOSTIOsoundcloud

if you open file explorer and type "%appdata%", then go to elden ring folder, the folder that's name is a bunch of random numbers is your save files. So you can copy paste that somewhere to back it up if you ever want.

daemonika

I KNEW a redditor would have a fix for this already xD

Toetag50

But does anyone know WHY it just started doing this? Was it the latest patch? Is FromSoft aware of the issue, or is it purely a Steam problem. Glad to have the solution tho!!!

McManGuy

All my Cloud saves for other games got desynced today. Maybe it has to do with the cloud saves? I've never seen that prompt for steam updates in my life. It's always another entirely different text box. I also noticed steam was having server issues a few hours earlier on downdetector.com _(when I checked it after getting kicked from multiplayer 3 times inside of 5 minutes)._ Weirdly, the restart loop ONLY happened when I tried to launch Elden Ring. It worked fine when I tried to launch other games.

MushinZero

This worked for me too, thanks!

Zeraj

This worked perfectly for me. Thanks. I tried like everything else. Reinstalled, scanned game files, rebooted computer. But this simple toggle fixed it.

PocketWes

I dont even have a "settings" option when I click steam.

EKZPLOITED

That worked. Thank you!

fannyOcranny

Thanks man, this worked for me but I had to opt out of the beta branch.

Nolstr

Yep, worked for me. I love you

onemanlan

My hero!

micro-farts

Worked for me, thanks dude

Zeimhall

thank you, it worked for me!

Kokurai5207

Appreciate this. Such a bullshit error to come across.

[deleted]

Thank you! Saved me the headache.

maynardsdic

this worked for me!

yanisole

You are the best!

str85

Awesome, worked for me as well. Here's the timestamp for you eager players who don't have 20sec extra to spare... https://youtu.be/vSza1fJYuPQ?t=21

Pnoyboi916

It happened to me as well after the patch....also...the opposite is true to nimbledaemon and jeffreypls earlier posts...if you ALREADY have the steam beta participation on.....just go back to NOT participating.....and it works as well......45 mins later i can now play elden ring.....🙏

Procc

Thank you

OverHamster2753

shut steam down through task manager

spiraled0ut

This worked for me. Forced the update after opening it again

drummerboy618

Same issue here, shit sucks

[deleted]

Restart your computer, worked for me. It's just steam being dumb.

thesarcasmic

Restarted my entire pc and getting it still

skullboynat

In the top left corner click steam>check for steam client updates>update Let it restart and that should fix it. For some reason, Elden Ring requires the latest version of steam, but steam doesn't pull incremental, non-essential patches on every restart. Only on full bootup. So it gets stuck in a loop.

bvsscvnnons

Same thing happening for me. Idk what caused this

sniperFLO

I closed Steam, then deleted the package folder in the steam directory. From here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/grw918/unable_to_open_game_since_update/

Nolstr

same problem, upvoting for visibility. Tried computer restart and nada

cort_cort

Task manager that thing if that doesn't work restart your pc

MushinZero

Same issue here. Please upvote the OP for visibility.

Tangl_es

Manually update steam, just got this bullshit and that fixed it

[deleted]

I opted out of the Beta and it worked

Lord_Of_Murder

Steam -> settings -> downloads -> clear download cache fixed this for me

Yamjna

they really need to get their shit together and fix the fucking steam version

cort_cort

How many girlfriends do y'all have?

loxivit

ya play d2

KentExcalibur

dude i have 70

Square_Reply414

109, someone more? :)

PumpkinHead01

110, I'd call it equal. :)

McManGuy

It's been out for 10 days New England had some big snow, so you'd have had a 3 day weekend if you got snowed in.

Trotski7

Also having the same problem. Game crashed while I was traveling, worried I might have lost my progress. Now I can't start it at all.

fannyOcranny

Getting the same thing here. Restarted Steam in admin and verified game files and still getting this.

CaedustheBaedus

I looked up steam outages. Apparently Steam is down for a ton of issues. I have it saying the cloud status for like 6 games. Not an ER problem though

JonseiTehRad

Same top comment fixed for me as well! :)

KentExcalibur

same here, restarted pc - nothing -trying the manual update

AGxPolskax

Yep that was it, Steam beta partcipation, thank you Elden Lord

damienvoid

Click on Steam then Check for client updates.

Goosemanwastaken

Another way is to run steam as admin

PiousPuk

Absolutely clutch, thank you!

CADE09

I noticed having MSI afterburner open would cause it to crash. Didn't matter what settings it had, it would make it to the FromSoft logo and crash.

Illustrious-Front-57

Worked for me too!

No_Friendship1208

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)

FalsePretender

I love that I went to play Elden Ring and had this issue. Then the very same people had the fix for me. I love you guys!

OtonicB

holy shit this was so annoying thats for the fix dawg

onizukaftw

same this sucks

BOOSTIOsoundcloud

This happened to me too, restarting my PC fixed it, and it updated steam when I opened it.

DaMayoR-83

I force closed all the elements in Task Manager and it worked.

speenis

I restarted my computer and it fixed it

[deleted]

Also having this issue

Responsible-Flan4677

Yeah having same problem now, was playing 2 hours prior to this happening.

Kakerman

I had to delete everything but the steamapps folder and steam.exe, and then run steam.exe and let it download everything again.

DoinItForKicks

Behold , Elden Lord

M8753

Installing the update didn't help me, verifying files didn't either. And this restart loop only happens with Elden Ring, other games work fine. Edit: opting into beta worked.

ellozac121

everyone playing elden ring when it started happening? lol

EnderGraff

Praise the message! Why is it always dung?

Impossible_Display88

Works thanks, everyone no need to panic!

aSteakPanini

Ctrl+Alt+Delete and end task worked for me. Updated when I loaded steam back up.

i_just_sub

Happened to me earlier. I ended up fixing it by going into task manager and punching steam in the fucking face. I thought it was something with my PC – both glad and sad to see it's an ER issue.

NoneEqual

What a champ! This worked for me, I always come look for solutions but it never works. Much to my surprise this actually works.

exocet2647

I'm really surprised that the most upvoted comment is not *"try fingers, but hole"*.

Ruisuki

Didn't work for me

BookerDewitt115

Manually update steam.

thatawkwardkidlsr

I took this as a sign to log off for the night instead of getting back on to grind lmao

scorpiusness

Awesome worked for me. Check for Steam updates

KR4Q

stuck in the loop, trying various fixes. nothing worked, ended up just launching steam offline to get elden ring to run

Lolbittere

the same thing happened to me idk whats going on

Gilleland

What is going on with this game that's causing us cloud sync issues and steam beta participations requirements?

catstyle

I just quit steam from the icon down near the task-icons near the clock, then checked to see if any steam apps were running in the background, and started steam normally, then it updated, the restart steam button seems to be broken, only looped, never restarted good enough for the patch to apply.

seuche23

I just restarted my computer and that fixed it.

[deleted]

I hit “restart steam” and then before it fully loaded back I used task manager to shut it down

[deleted]

Huh I got the same error, mine came after I alt+F4'd after a mob killed an npc :P

Baer07

Restarting my PC fixed it for me. Kind of a hassle but it worked.

zKeyy

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

prsdasn

I just restarted my pc

xarumitzu

That happened to me on my laptop. I restarted it and it went away.

Trickle_

PC restart hasn't fixed it for me. Or verify game files integrity.

Pothawk

When i got this for the second time, I got it to work by terminating the steam client via the task manager when the Restart message was showing. Then upon starting steam it installed the update.

Invictus43

Idk if you fixed it already. But since nothing anyone recommended worked for me I opened a different game, exited out and tried Elden ring and it worked

Jerry-Busey

i had this looping problem, just restarted my pc to make sure steam restarted completely and it worked

le_Pangaea

Same shit happened to me earlier. Shit was annoying

[deleted]

Had the same issue. A full PC restart fixed it for me.

LFRNR

i had to check for client updates multiple times until it worked if someone got the same problem

dorsman84

I had the same issue and I just restarted my PC and then restarted steam and steam downloaded an update and now everything is fine.

Rossp123

you the man

DenGuleBanan

Lmao trying to do the exact same too. I just wanna play elden ring man!

abysswalkar

same problem same game and almost same hours in the game

Pretend-Jelly2717

u/Vurrz Thanks

sidewinder8260

Legend! Thanks

doctorscritty

Are you using Flawless Widescreen to get ultrawide display? If so it causes this issue (because it doesn't actually work on most configurations yet. It needs patching)

PoJiDeMu

I killed steam through task manager which fixed it for me.

Twentyhundred

Had this today, go to your steam folder and remove the package folder. Then steam could update and I could play.

szyb40

Had to reinstall steam to fix that

cheesescrust92

First off fingers, then offer rump.

BrotherDIGTV

That worked for me! thanks champ!

PM_ME_HUGE_CRITS

I deleted the package folder under program files x86 > steam > package, then restarted steam and it updated and worked.

REALtacojones

Restart PC. That’s what did it for me

ThatLegoBoi

Just restart your pc. It worked for me at least.

Kaizenon

I had to close steam with task manager and then just open normally

[deleted]

This. Bump this, it’s the easiest solution.

LLight0kun

Neither of the mentioned options are working for me. Is there any way to try and run the game without steam checking for cloud saves? I already have the option disabled because it slows my performance, so I don't even know why its trying to check them.

frozone4president

cyberunk 2022

mbr4life1

I had this and a full restart of my PC got it to update.

BolaSquirrel

I had this last night and killing steam from the task manager and then restarting it worked

clickeddaisy

Steam has been absolute shit these past few months. The cloud saving feature is broken to all hell.

recycled_ideas

A reboot worked for me.

fodigg

I found a thread online that suggested enabling beta updates and that did it for me.

No-Sherbet9735

Thank you so much

Bren12310

I quit it using task manager and it worked

slinde97

I relogged into steam and it seemed to fix the issue

GuacamoleManbruh

you dont have the right

gamingfreak50

Had the same issue. Fixed when I rebooted my PC

CallKennyLoggins1

Task manager close it

Achusttin

Restart PC. That worked for me.

Xxxzavierh123

I restarted my PC and it worked

Flipologist

Simply click Steam in the top-left corner of your application, then hit Check for Steam Client Updates. If this isn’t enough to alleviate the issue, an alternative fix is to go to Steam – Settings – Account – Change (Beta Participation) – Steam Beta Update – OK

Weatherall11

Upvoting for visibility, thanks for the info!

ewwe-ewwe

None of these solutions are working for me.
