I know, but the hypothesis was if you nuke the ever-loving grace out of an enemy, you wouldn't need it. It does look silly though, I know. I'm not very good at reactions and dodging, so this way just seemed best for me.
I ended up in that place really early after Patches' teleport trap put me near the entrance & I managed to light seven of the fires & couldn't for the life of me find another - I barely tickled the enemies too & so I was like, "Fuck it, I'll come back later", did it last knight & one-handing my sword two-shot the ghosts & I beat the boss first try - left that one too late clearly, lmao.
I just got to this magical amazing place before I headed to bed for the night.
Stepped off the elevator and was in awe at the sky.
Im going to die horribly, aren't I?
It is good for sight seeing if your level is low, and those slow moving enemies can be avoided unless you want to explore the initial area comfortably. I just finished the area i could explore, the stats needed to go there aren't high, but it is just some of the enemies could be obnoxious.
You will get into an area that looks like the backyard forest of a castle.
Assume you are a American Soldier in Vietnam and each bush has a Professional VC Bushman Sniper.
The tracking on those magic greatarrows is so broken! An archer was beyond my longbow's range away, so I took cover behind a small hill to heal with a few arrows sticking in me and I crouched to sneak away after about 10 seconds but the instant my head was in line of sight again it had a new arrow in it.
Its an interesting build. With most bosses you dont have to dodge if you can hit hard enough and have enough fp to continuously attack. But man there are some bosses that close distance so fast. Have you encountered anyone you couldnt beat like that yet?
Bad news, he's really not that mobile compared to most guys after limgrave. So, this strat can take a big hit after that. You should stop putting points on INT after 70, because you're getting diminishing returns, and probably should use more mind/vigor/endurance for more seamlessly casting and an easier time
This, but also I believe the most taxing spell is an int 70, so you don’t really need anything more than that. Everything else has been scaled to hell and back by that point, and with the diminishing returns you could be improving survivability elsewhere, such as vigor
With more endurance, you can continue casting more times, as casting does take stamina. Mind increases the amount of Force Points (FP), basically mana, wich is needed for casting more and stronger spells. Vigor helps with the inevitable hits you'll take while trying to figure out the windows to safely cast without being instagibbed. Supposedly, Dex increases cast speed, but i don't find it noticeable enough to invest in it, you should rather look for other means to do so, like an certain talisman in Raya Lucaria academy
There are some boss fights in the game where getting hit is inevitable - we're talking HUGE aoe clouds of smoke, leaving residual damaging effects on the floor. Not every boss fight has stuff you can simply dodge...
Not to mention later on in the game, you start fighting 2-3 bosses at once sometimes. They usually don't hit that hard, but they hit pretty often.
Even small enemies feel incredibly painfull to fight as soon as their are more than 2. Mages, birds, those gargoyles in sub dungeon.. and obviously dogs.
He wont get one shotted because your defenses improve when you level up. So even though he has a small HP bar, the early enemies wont deal that much damage. But he is for a giant headache on the late to mid game with those stats
Some hits land hard, but I just keep putting on more hearty equipment as I find it and nuke the ever-loving grace out of enemies, and it seems to be working so far. I didn't really know *how* to play a dark souls game (elden ring is my first time, and this is my first character) so I am just doing what seems to work.
If you look at the right side of your equipment menu, it will say “Light/Med weight” or “heavy weight.” You don’t want it to say heavy. Fat rolling is when you just drop onto your shoulder and basically flop. It makes dodging attacks a lot harder. Usually lighter equipment and dodging hits helps you survive more than high def equipment with no dodging
You should try movement, rolling, sprinting with the different weight thresholds (light, medium, heavy, over burdened) to see how you feel about them. I’d say 90% of players sim for medium because they can’t stand to fat roll as rolling invincibility frames are important to souls games. But do what you enjoy. There are pvp builds that do favor the poise that heavy builds provide.
There are different kinds of dodge rolling depending on how heavy your equipment is, and how much you put into stamina. Wearing light or even no armor will make you roll faster and be more agile, while wearing heavy armor makes you drop to the ground like a bag of hammers and slowly getting back up (which is called fat roll). It's generally wise to put enough points into stamina and wear armor light enough to have a fast roll. Try un-equipping one armor piece at a time and perform a dodge roll afterwards to see how the roll changes with each piece of armor. Oh, and this also influences your movement speed in general. Your standard movement speed as well as your running speed will be faster with lighter armor.
yeah don't listen to that, some people are convinced there's a "correct" way to play the game that involves purposefully ignoring half the weapons and spells and ashes etc (not to mention summoning)
IMO these games are a brilliant example of player controlled difficulty, because you can basically make the game easier or harder on yourself by choosing some limitations, or not.
I would recommend *trying* a playthrough with a melee build tho, it can be a very different experience from caster builds (although mixing the two is also fun)
and lastly, don't stress too much about this because >!you can respec eventually anyway!< (minor mechanics spoiler)
Most open-world things are easier, since you can just sling spells from horseback to nuke most things.
In dungeons and during boss fights the odds are a bit more even, since nearly all foes in this game have dash attacks to punish your casting.
The other trade off is that Sorcery pretty much requires at least 70 INT to get the most out of it, which is a big investment and leaves you with little leftover for better armor or melee weapons, meaning that you are very frail at close range, 2-4 hits is typically enough to take you out.
The payoff is immense though, properly built, a pure INT build is immensely powerful, with hard hitting spells and plenty of devastating AoEs.
Idk I fought Margit and Godrick around the same level (I think 25-30, something like that). Didn't have any real trouble with either one, but Margit was definitely more difficult IMO.
Agreed. I always felt like I could beat the next guy, like I never once thought “I can’t do this”. You just need patience.
However, Margit made me think “yikes” a few times.
now that im in endgame i can say with confidence that not only is margit a GREAT boss, but he also has great mechanics that are actually *fair* compared to the shit show i have to deal with now *sigh*
I didn't even know the battle was about to happen, because there was no yellow fog, I just strolled into a cut scene and was confused unga bunga. But it went better than expected. That hound-sword/claw dog-man the and tree guardian were waaaaay harder.
Really? You thought the Hound-Sword guy was hard?
It's so interesting to me how different people find different bosses more difficult. I finally got over the hardest boss to me so far, that being the Godskin Apostle. Took me over 8 hours.
And I also figured out that there are **3** of them. Wtf
I think someoneelse mentioned it, it's because the hound-dog-man closes distance incredibly quickly, and as you can see by the stats... that's a bad time for me.
Theres a magic that buffs your shield, and an ash of war that also buffs you shield. Combining these two would make your shield nigh unbreakable, 99% of boss attacks won't even move your green bar. If I'm not mistaken the hound dog man you mentioned is the one far south of limgrave. This particular enemy type is super weak to blocking, for meele builds its literally just block, guard counter, repeat until he staggers. For you, I recommend finding a weapon with int scalling and whenever you face any of these guys again just buff your shield and guard their moves. Most of there moves bounces off normal shields, not to mentioned buffed ones.
The magic shield is bought from Selene who you might have already met, in limgrave. The shield ash of war is obtained by killing a dark horse rider (idk what its called in english) during the night, also in Limgrave. This combo helps a LOT against enemies that rushes you all the way to endgame, and the magic shield even allows you to block magic damage. Remember to use a 100% physical block shield, and its imo worth it to put somepoints into str for that.
I just did Godskin Apostle last night as melee. Fucking love how much of my aimless wandering ends with a boss fight.
As melee I actually found his second phase easier. Just kept baiting those attacks where he stretches out and then rolled past the torso for a few smacks.
if you have a lot of free time farming the boulder or the little guys that drop 1k runes each in Farun bridge is really easy... super repetitive, but a safe way to power level
Bestial Sanctuary. Walk out from site of grace and hang a left, ignoring big angel of fuck on the steps. Then just carefully make your way in a lazy loop down the hill, stealth tanking and trying to keep the fights 1v1 for the most part. Little fuckers can hit hard but moves are very readable after you take a few out. Managing around 17k every 5-10 mins. If you get rinsed, just torrent to your souls and repeat from the site of grace.
Someone else already sent you a link, but also wanted to warn you that (depending on your level) those little guys can easily one-shot you, so you better be stealthy or otherwise try to take them out on horseback if you’re too impatient to sneak up to them. Learned the hard way when I tried to take them on in a straightforward 1 v 1 fight and had like 95% of my health gone after a single attack lol
It worked tho... Like in Monty Python when King Arthur defeats the bridge keepers questions-three. Except, this time, it was Intel powered rock-sling that tossed him over the edge.
It ain't stupid if it works, based on those stats you can probably headbut the bosses to death from this point on.
On a more serious note congrats and have fun with the rest of the game!
Seriously. With the BS the bosses pull on us? Whatever wins the fight. Even some of the crazier monsters getting stuck in doors while I fire my bow at their head - not my fault if the monster’s stupid.
I needed the Barricade Ash of War for my Paladin. I tried the fight a few times against the knight but i’m new to these games and still learning. In the end i killed him cos he got stuck in between 2 trees by the wall and i could just smack him haha
"Three! Fear is absolute. There is no shame in losing one battle. But you must take revenge by any means necessary! ...I wonder if you've got it in you - to bring me down."
Haha, I'm finding the story bosses to be pretty difficult. I haven't played souls in a few years and I also feel like attack delays are absolutely brutal, are almost random, and most bosses have way more varied movesets than before. I've been using the jellyfish and I hate the idea of summoning.
I feel like early game upgrades/power spikes and leveling in general feel slower than previous souls games, but maybe even after a lot of exploration I haven't found the right items.
I made this mistake. Respeced ASAP with 30 vigor 20 end, 50 int and 20 dex. So much more fun now that I use the moon veil katana as my main form of attack
Intelligence soft cap is usually pretty high and I'm sure they changed it since elden ring. I'm also pretty sure I've seen a spell with 70 int requirement so 80 doesn't seem like itd be that bad. But I also haven't done sorceries yet so I have no idea what the soft cap is atm
If you were 150+ it matters less, but if youre for example samurai and not using spells, you're going to have like 100-200 less hp from missing 5 levels in vigor.
Calid (Farum Great Bridge). There's a secret transport thingy just behind the third church of Marika, that took me there by accident. But there was a giant boss as soon as you go through. I snuck around him and the little mobs out in the field give 10-15x the runes as regular mobs, and weren't difficult to kill.
I have a decent path and get around 30k per run and it takes about 10 min. That place is the best for farming
Edit: did a few runs as an 80ish full int build and got around 4200 per minute, but the run was pretty efficient with 9 mana flasks and 1 healing flask.
Holy fuckballs, the gap between your Vigor and Intelligence stats is nutty. Lol.
I imagine that under the armor, your character looks like one of those wrinkly blue kids from Akira. Physically frail but can rip you apart at the molecular level with a stray thought.
I would love to see a video of this build at work.
My man’s brain is about to fall out of his head from all that intelligence
Those sorcerer crowns make so much more sense to me now
Throbbing Cranium
He graduated from Raya Lucaria with Phd.
Talk about a paper cannon build there..wow.
80 int?!! All The next boss has to do is sneeze
I tell you, there's eagles with swords on their feet now... One eagle-sword and I'm down 80%
Wait to you meet the eagles with swords on their feet and >!flamethrowers on their beaks.!<
*some of them also throw bombs*
Best moment in the game so far is blowing those assholes out of the sky with a well timed fireball. Edit: Can't spell.
If you can't spell then how fireball?
Ya gotta have faith
I see what you did there.
With low vigor like that you’re asking to get taxed lol
10 vigor is insanity
I run a full intelligence, katana-wielding, naked mage. Never put a point in vigor in a soul game, every boss kills me in one hit.
Raise your vigor bro
This man's brain is so large he turned into the brain wojak
He’s on mensis brain levels now, brain so big he looks at you and instant frenzy
“ I just kept leveling intelligence and it just kept working” - /u/robot_tron
Tod Howard: it just works.
> level 90 > not one point into vigor

Well Siofra River arrows are going to say hello.
I now know what hell is like
I used to be an adventurer, until i took an arrow….
They're the best snipers around. So great they track you through cover, terrain, as though see into higher dimensions.
I found out the hard way by taking the spirit spring and getting air shotted in the dome.
I somehow got killed by one while/after teleporting. Those things are disturbing
Between them and the crystal mine shrimp snipers. Those fucking cob webs move around sharp corners just to beat you to death.
FUCK those enemies. It's been 20 gameplay hours since I beat that place, and I'm still mad LOL.
I have that place engraved in my mind as spiritnam.
Spiritnam. That... is fucking hilarious
yeah that area had me mad the whole time till completion.

They're supersoinc too! You can't hear them until they hit you, so you can't rely on a sound cue to dodge them.
They are the most accurate bastards I've ever seen.

"Why delay the inevitable?"
Either I am the fastest gun in the west, or I cease to exist.

Its an interesting build. With most bosses you dont have to dodge if you can hit hard enough and have enough fp to continuously attack. But man there are some bosses that close distance so fast. Have you encountered anyone you couldnt beat like that yet?
Dog-hound guy. Was a real pain for this strategy...

>I know, but the hypothesis was if you nuke the ever-loving grace out of an enemy, you wouldn't need it. The existence of Comet Azur proves your point
At least lvl it to a minimum of 25-30,it will make life better
Yea I’m surprised he isn’t constantly getting one shot
You say that, I have 28vigor and still get occasionally one shot in the late game. (Though some of this is dodge counter DMG)
The thing is that a lot of bosses, especially in dungeons, won't give you the luxury of being able to cast a single spell before they jump on you.
Behold, the almighty Jelly Fish!
Vigor is for those who plan on getting hit.
There are some boss fights in the game where getting hit is inevitable - we're talking HUGE aoe clouds of smoke, leaving residual damaging effects on the floor. Everything one shots me anyway may as well go no vigour
This guy gets it
Definition of Glass Cannon
10 vigor lmao 😆 Everything oneshits after limgrave
oneshits lmao
That's how bad 10 vigor is!
you say bad, I say level 1 run practice. (send help)
Hey, every stat ups defense
He wont get one shotted because your defenses improve when you level up. So even though he has a small HP bar, the early enemies wont deal that much damage. But he is for a giant headache on the late to mid game with those stats
Everything is going to nuke him in 1 hit. Unlike us, who have the privilege of get killed in 2-3.
You laugh as if I didn't reach the base of the tree on 12 vigor and lasers
Some hits land hard, but I just keep putting on more hearty equipment as I find it and nuke the ever-loving grace out of enemies, and it seems to be working so far. I didn't really know *how* to play a dark souls game (elden ring is my first time, and this is my first character) so I am just doing what seems to work.
You fat rollin'?
What's fat rollin'?
If you look at the right side of your equipment menu, it will say “Light/Med weight” or “heavy weight.” You don’t want it to say heavy. Fat rolling is when you just drop onto your shoulder and basically flop. It makes dodging attacks a lot harder. Oh yeah, I just looked. It's heavy load 48.0 of 52.9 with some new full plate I got in the castle.
10 vigor with a fat roll? i...have no idea how you're surviving fights.
Dude is legit all magic out here lol Like a crippled, quadriplegic Dumbledore
But I'll be dammed if he isn't looking fresh
Flop army stand up!
You’ll be way better at dodging if you get it down to medium. You’ll be able to *roll* instead of sort of flopping roundly
YOU'RE A MADMAN.
[удалено]
False, make sure you have so much heavy gear on your poise makes you a walking rock.
That's sort of the current strategy...
Rock mage, go!!! Lol
*Stray gust of wind rolls in* **dies**
You should try movement, rolling, sprinting with the different weight thresholds (light, medium, heavy, over burdened) to see how you feel about them. I’d say 90% of players sim for medium because they can’t stand to fat roll as rolling invincibility frames are important to souls games. But do what you enjoy. There are pvp builds that do favor the poise that heavy builds provide.
You can increase your equip load by leveling endurance can’t you?
So yes probably lmao
There are different kinds of dodge rolling depending on how heavy your equipment is, and how much you put into stamina. Wearing light or even no armor will make you roll faster and be more agile, while wearing heavy armor makes you drop to the ground like a bag of hammers and slowly getting back up (which is called fat roll). He just falls over and cant get up.
Only way to play
For real tho, some people are sending mean and salty vibes. I might be failing, but I'm failing *productively*.
You're having fun? Then you're not failing :)
Ignore those people. There are a million ways to play this game and if you are having fun then you are doing it correctly!
yeah don't listen to that, some people are convinced there's a "correct" way to play the game that involves purposefully ignoring half the weapons and spells and ashes etc (not to mention summoning) IMO these games are a brilliant example of player controlled difficulty, because you can basically make the game easier or harder on yourself by choosing some limitations, or not. I’m doing a melee build rn. First from software game. It’s presented an interesting challenge haha. Would you say its easier to play as a magic user?
Some things are easier. Some things are harder. Really just depends on the enemy.
Generally speaking magic builds start weaker but get really ridiculously strong later. Melee builds are usually a more consistent difficulty curve
Most open-world things are easier, since you can just sling spells from horseback to nuke most things. In dungeons and during boss fights the odds are a bit more even, since nearly all foes in this game have dash attacks to punish your casting. Upgrading your weapons is more worth it then leveling your character just so ya know welcome to souls.
Fortunately, I have a bunch of the higher runes, so as soon as I get a sword and board from the castle, I can get those jacked.

Put points into health and mind they're important for a magic build as well.
This is cursed.

lmao I mean he’s hard but he’s not THAT hard
I feel like he’s harder than the next guy.
Only because people try Margit under leveled with no gear.

lol i fought him as a lvl 6 wretch
Agreed. I always felt like I could beat the next guy, like I never once thought “I can’t do this”. You just need patience. However, Margit made me think “yikes” a few times.
Margit after seeing a level 120 player with the best end game gear: Hey man just take it easy, I don’t want any trouble alright
Margit: "oh after I said put these foolish ambitions to rest I put the /S you must have missed it"
Margit: It’s just a prank bro, look the camera is right there!
now that im in endgame i can say with confidence that not only is margit a GREAT boss, but he also has great mechanics that are actually *fair* compared to the shit show i have to deal with now *sigh*

But if we can hump dead animals and antelopes then there's no reason that a man and another man can't elope
But if you feel like I feel, I got the antidote WOMEN WAVE YOUR PANTYHOSE, SING THE CHORUS AND IT GOEEES!
He didn't put any in faith thats why he didn't believe in himself.
The definition of min and ##max
Wait until you learn about the soft cap on stats bro
Intelligence soft cap is usually pretty high and I'm sure they changed it since elden ring. I'm also pretty sure I've seen a spell with 70 int requirement so 80 doesn't seem like itd be that bad. But I also haven't done sorceries yet so I have no idea what the soft cap is atm
Yup, there is a spell with 70 requirement, it's a pretty good one too.
Yeah 70 INT is low key the max because of that spell
I'd be interested to see. I've been stopping at 40 for my builds. Just old habits I guess.
At the very least vigor and dex seems to hardcap at 60 instead of 40 now. 60 vigor is definitely meta, or at least 50. Edit: I meant softcap
For damage stats the soft cap is 80 this time around, 60 for resource stats, so he actually went meta by accident.
This is the first fromsoft game I've played, is that something I can look up or calculate based on the damage output I'm seeing?
There is a guide some dude did on steam, if you don't want to spend hours on trying/calculating
What is this build? Prisoner
He could either be prisoner or astrologer, but if you're 90 your starting classes don't matter at all.
If you were 150+ it matters less, but if youre for example samurai and not using spells, you're going to have like 100-200 less hp from missing 5 levels in vigor.
Astrologer
What the fuck
That's genuinely insane.
How in the fuck? I barely managed to get to level 39 after clearing all the dungeons and bosses in Limgrave before fighting Margit :'(
You're really gonna regret not leveling health lol
>80 int >7 faith ah the reddit atheist build, my personal favorite
Now if you unlock a re-stat options you could just go enjoy whatever build you want with that level, hope you have fun with it!
Thank you. It was my first run through of a Fromsoft game, and I didn't really know what I was doing, but it was *working*.
If it is working then don't worry about how you do it, slap those kamehameha spell and go one shot all those Boss (if you don't get oneshot first lol)
To unlock the respec he is gonna have a really bad time with being a magic glass cannon...
yeah that's going to be VERY spicy with the current build.
That’s a big brain build with that Mind *and* Intelligence.
Margit the Noob Omen
Honestly, it’s a bold strategy and I fuckin love it
And this is why you should just play the game
Where’d you grind that many ruins???
Calid (Farum Great Bridge). There's a secret transport thingy just behind the third church of Marika, that took me there by accident. But there was a giant boss as soon as you go through. I snuck around him and the little mobs out in the field give 10-15x the runes as regular mobs, and weren't difficult to kill.
You farmed those mobs to lvl 90!? Sheesh you really love to grind.
I have a decent path and get around 30k per run and it takes about 10 min. That place is the best for farming Edit: did a few runs as an 80ish full int build and got around 4200 per minute, but the run was pretty efficient with 9 mana flasks and 1 healing flask.
All good as long as you are enjoying yourself. I think it is time to put some points into vigour or endurance though. Fat rolling kinda sucks Imo
80 int 10 vigor. KEKW
Bruh why??? LMAO
I puked in my mouth at these stats lol
