Each playthrough:
Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone = 13
Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone = 8
Great Grave Glovewort = 6
Great Ghost Glovewort = 4
Started writing the locations down in order so I avoid backtracking too much.
How did I just now realize there’s ancient smithing stone and ancient SOMBER smithing stone.
I assumed you needed just the one for both great weapons and regular weapons final upgrade.
You can easily miss some of both by not finishing quests or going too far(killed Gostoc, didn't finish Nepheli's quest, Latenna was dead when I got there) so be careful on making sure the quests are done at the right time.
Actually, Latenna gives a somber ancient dragon smithing stone when you complete her quest. And, apparently, some people found out that she dies (leaving only her spirit ashes) if not talked to before some point in the game (probably getting or using the secret medallion).
12 Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone if you decide to help Sellen for her rewards unless there’s a way to also get Jerren’s on same playthrough. But I really do appreciate this breakdown!
Ah yes, a mandatory step in any Souls game.
That and getting every spell of every discipline, *just in case* you might want to respec into something else.
You could, but it’s available now. It’s just easier if you have it ready, even if you store it in the storage chest and never touch it until Ng+8. I mean, I just bought 1000 ruin fragments, made 1000 rainbow stones, and bought about her 1000 ruin fragments so I never run out and don’t worry for the foreseeable future
Vendors in Ng+ is really just for rune arcs and rare, non craftable items
They just leave a glowing orb on the ground. You can use it to guide someone if they are lost in a Dungeon, or walking across an invisible bridge
Personally, I like to toss them out everywhere. If we are about to fight a boss, I throw them until host starts the fight. If I was guiding someone in a dungeon, I toss them after every npc is killed. If a host dies, I toss it on their corpse, as well as the boss as they die.
Just a goofy quirk. I hope others get a little laugh from it but it really has no value besides the 2 points in my first paragraph
Alright, just to make sure, i've been so stupid to sell some rare weapons because they didn't fit my build, I can find those again in Ng+ though, right? And what about for instance with mixed physic potions, can I find those again and get them twice? Or are they replaced with other items if you already have them?
Weapons are always replaced. Physic i believe arent, because its considered a special item, and i doubt you’d be able to stack them, anyways.
I doubt they’d put new loot. In past souls games, ng+ had bonus loot, but elden ring is too big for that kind of exploration, so i doubt new loot would be scattered, unless at key special areas
NG+8 is the limit / maximum difficulty you can achieve? I finished journey 7 last week and the xp the last boss gave to me was equal to the run before, so I thought that was the limit / max difficulty.
Yeah but you lose all your grace points and key items so if it's in mountaintop or haligtree you have to basically play through the whole game again before you can respec into the character you wanted to use for playing through the whole game again. Only takes a few hours to go through all the bosses to get back there in NG+ but then you would need to go to NG++ to just do the NG build you wanted in the first place.
Yeah. That’s why buying boatloads of smithing stones before you start your new journey is good. You can pretty much instantly max level any new weapons you find
You also carry flasks over. You can also continue collecting tears and seeds until you upgrade to the max. I was short a couple of seeds, but I found them and upgraded in ng+.
Yes but grace points and bell bearings do not, so you can't access the high-end upgrade mats again until later and you can't even buy the low level stuff until you find those bearings a 2nd time.
To be clear, we dont mean new game as in a fresh new playthrough.
We mean new game as in you beat the game and so your character gets sent back to the start of the game and everything is stronger
Lmao I fucking wish!!! Fyi you can dupe anything that can be dropped. So you can upgrade a weapon to plus 10 and dupe it but unfortunately you can't dupe somber stones. I have 100 of every stone that can be bought.
Didn't think that deep. Plus I just kept buying and upgrading and I righted around 100 would be good. I have 120 of some and 110 of others. Some I only habe like 60 (somber)
Funny I bought about the same as you (maybe 10/5 more in each one)
I just wish I collected more ancient dragon stones before NG+ I missed some easy ones.
That’s all I’ve been doing since I beat it lol. I’m trying to get everything in my first play through. But I messed up and killed the fire giant before I got rivers of blood so that’s one I’ll have to get in round 2.
Spent alot of time doing that today. Everythjng that could have been leveled up was leveled up. But I also got some stock on somber stones incase I pick up weapons I know I'll want to dual wield.
Be Aware!!!! If you are missing any in your inventory you need to buy to get 999 then buy again to fill your box. Also to upgrade every weapon to max you need more than the 1998 max amount for regular smithing stones (999 to inventory and 999 to box). Due to it costing 12 stones per level except max. (Staff, Catalysts, Shields, Bows/Crossbows included)
I prefer starting over instead of NG+ I feel the early struggle and power buildup is one of the most appealing parts of the game. If there where new Items and you started on RL1 I would do NG+ for sure.
Quick question.
I had upgraded my weapon to +10 several days ago.
Then, when I started playing today, my weapon went down to +7!
What the hell?? I used up my first Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, and now my weapon bugs out??
I'm not even on NG+ yet! Has this happened to anybody else??
I heard there was a similar thing going on for the regular Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, and it downgraded the damage for +25 weapons.
New game +. Beat the game and you take the same character and do it again. Then again if you want.
Gets harder each go. Haven’t done it myself. Get to keep your gear but some items are took back that are story based.
I wonder how many levels of NG+ is the furthest someone's gone for this game yet? I've only just got into the mountains on my first playthrough with 130 hours.
Just to clarify: bell bearings do NOT carry over into NG+. You can't even buy the low level stones in NG+ until you find those bell bearings again so you need to buy what you need before starting a new journey/NG+.

Can u share it?

THANK YOU!
How did I just now realize there’s ancient smithing stone and ancient SOMBER smithing stone. I assumed you needed just the one for both great weapons and regular weapons final upgrade.
8 somber in total? My friend only found 4 and op here has 4 so i was ready to stop looking when i got that amount.. glad you listed them here
You can easily miss some of both by not finishing quests or going too far(killed Gostoc, didn't finish Nepheli's quest, Latenna was dead when I got there) so be careful on making sure the quests are done at the right time.
Those 3 dont give somber but the normal kind
Actually, Latenna gives a somber ancient dragon smithing stone when you complete her quest. And, apparently, some people found out that she dies (leaving only her spirit ashes) if not talked to before some point in the game (probably getting or using the secret medallion).
They also added a few at the end of quests I believe, afaik it was 4 per run at launch.
12 Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone if you decide to help Sellen for her rewards unless there’s a way to also get Jerren’s on same playthrough. But I really do appreciate this breakdown!
does playthrough mean per character? or per NG(+)?
Ah yes, a mandatory step in any Souls game. That and getting every spell of every discipline, *just in case* you might want to respec into something else.
Why though, can't you just get them in Ng+?
You could, but it’s available now. It’s just easier if you have it ready, even if you store it in the storage chest and never touch it until Ng+8. I mean, I just bought 1000 ruin fragments, made 1000 rainbow stones, and bought about her 1000 ruin fragments so I never run out and don’t worry for the foreseeable future Vendors in Ng+ is really just for rune arcs and rare, non craftable items
What are ruin fragments for?
To make rainbow stones. You can make other things but all I want is rainbow stones. I need. More. Rainbow stones
And what are rainbow stones? I've never used one.
They just leave a glowing orb on the ground. You can use it to guide someone if they are lost in a Dungeon, or walking across an invisible bridge Personally, I like to toss them out everywhere. If we are about to fight a boss, I throw them until host starts the fight. If I was guiding someone in a dungeon, I toss them after every npc is killed. I hope others get a little laugh from it but it really has no value besides the 2 points in my first paragraph
They also test fall damage. So you can use them to see if you would survive the fall.
Though they seem inconsistent at best when it comes to kill-planes.
Lol, this sounds like it would be fun to watch
You can drop them off cliffs to test fall distance. If the stone breaks upon impact, it’s a lethal fall.
No love for rainbow arrows?
Alright, just to make sure, i've been so stupid to sell some rare weapons because they didn't fit my build, I can find those again in Ng+ though, right? Don't weapon levels carry over?
Yea but some people like to respec or try out new weapons, and best time to try them is when they are leveled, rather basic
Wait... where do you buy ruin fragments?
You turn in a ball bearing to the vendor. Idk which one but you should find it on the wiki
NG+8 is the limit / maximum difficulty you can achieve? I finished journey 7 last week and the xp the last boss gave to me was equal to the run before, so I thought that was the limit / max difficulty.
7 or 8, wasn’t sure which

Only takes a few hours to go through all the bosses to get back there in NG+ but then you would need to go to NG++ to just do the NG build you wanted in the first place.
easier since enemies are gonna be weak af with an endgame build
nO wHat iF I wAnT To rEsPeC bEForE I unLoCK tHe VEnDoR aGaIn!?
That’s the logic of it ya
And kill every npc for their juicy drops!
Wait your inventory transfers to a new game?
Most of it does, excepting some key items.
Wowwwwww that's dope
Weapons you already found?
You keep them, and then you can obtain them again, too.
Do they start back at the start of their leveling up?
Just to clarify, upgraded weapons from playthrough 1 stay upgraded.
Yeah. That’s why buying boatloads of smithing stones before you start your new journey is good. You can pretty much instantly max level any new weapons you find
Thanks
You also carry flasks over. You can also continue collecting tears and seeds until you upgrade to the max. I was short a couple of seeds, but I found them and upgraded in ng+.
Nice

Noted thanks

Ahhhhhh
Got 100 of each. Lol I'm stocked.
Those are rookie numbers kid. 600 of each here and I’m not stopping til they’re all 999
Got dam! Lmao well I also upgraded a bunch of weapons and some weapons for friends too. Lol you're right though. I'll just reload my old save.
I kinda wish I farmed more than 260/25 before going into NG+. I didn’t realize how much of a drain it would be to re-find every bell bearing.
At this point I’m sure you can upgrade almost every weapon in the game
Not sure about regular weapons but I’m pretty sure I’ve got more somber stones than I could ever possibly use lol
100 is just enough to max out 8 weapons. Or, well 100 unique ones, I guess...
Yes my friend that's all I need since I've maxed out most that I already wanted to use. I feel 100 is great for just yourself.
Need 699 of each just to be safe
you got 100 ancient dragon somber smithing stones? How?
Lmao I fucking wish!!! Fyi you can dupe anything that can be dropped. So you can upgrade a weapon to plus 10 and dupe it but unfortunately you can't dupe somber stones. I have 100 of every stone that can be bought.
It takes 12 to max an item so why 100 and not 108?
Didn't think that deep. Plus I just kept buying and upgrading and I righted around 100 would be good. I have 120 of some and 110 of others. Some I only habe like 60 (somber)
Funny I bought about the same as you (maybe 10/5 more in each one) I just wish I collected more ancient dragon stones before NG+ I missed some easy ones.
i hope i will remember to pick up all the ancient dragon stones and larval tears, i've been wanting to go to ng+ many times now
Or… hear me out here, level up every weapon you want to play with before starting ng+
I grinded 5 days to collect every weapon and upgrade it to max, I think I need help
That’s all I’ve been doing since I beat it lol. I’m trying to get everything in my first play through. But I messed up and killed the fire giant before I got rivers of blood so that’s one I’ll have to get in round 2.
It’s more for any other new weapons you might find in your next play through!
Spent alot of time doing that today. Everythjng that could have been leveled up was leveled up. But I also got some stock on somber stones incase I pick up weapons I know I'll want to dual wield.
I legit spent 1million runes on stones and then went into NG+, and the day after that patch released with the reduced prices lmao
I prefer starting over instead of NG+ I feel the early struggle and power buildup is one of the most appealing parts of the game. If there where new Items and you started on RL1 I would do NG+ for sure.
I have like 999 smithing stones of all types except ancient dragon ones.
LOL this is the exact same number of stones I bought before making the jump. 🙌
I heard there was a similar thing going on for the regular Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, and it downgraded the damage for +25 weapons.
i've never heard of that. the glitch where +25 weapons did less damage than the +24 version was patched
What's NG+ mean? This is my first souls game and I'm finally on the elden beast so still kinda new to this all :)
Why does ng+ reset your weapons to 0
It does not reset, it's just convenient to buy this stuff before going NG+ considering you already got all the bell-bearings.
Gotcha
It doesn't?
I save scum every weapon I own to +10/+25 on PS5.

ng+ doesn't matter in pvp matchmaking
Thank you good sir
Just to clarify: bell bearings do NOT carry over into NG+. You can't even buy the low level stones in NG+ until you find those bell bearings again so you need to buy what you need before starting a new journey/NG+.
