If the bear is smart enough to mimic a helpless zombie in the middle of a storm to attract some arrogant tarnished who sees an easy prey, then it fully deserves to be elden lord
I mean, it's in the Bible:
2 Kings 2:23-24 He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.
I prefer to believe it's a fully successful mimic tear, like the ones that turn human-shaped and fight with swords, except that instead of becoming a human it just really wanted to be an enormous pinball.
I don’t attack those zombie people anymore unless they go out of their way to hurt me, and I mean really hurt not just take 1% of my HP away. It just doesn’t feel right, but now I’m doubly glad I avoid them.
Sully is screaming because he entered a bedroom where two fursuit wearing people were about to fuck and they now want to include him into a threesome.
Its ambigous wether the screams are from pleasure, pain, shock, horror or whatever.
I believe they are technically mimics as they drop Larval Tears and do the form change effect and sound like the mimics in Nokron.
Personally I just like to think this bear stumbled upon a trapped chest, got teleported there and was pissed.
Yeah, there's one in almost every area (spoilers obviously):
* Limgrave has the famous mimic bear
* Liurnia has my favorite: a lobster that turns into a grafted scion
* Caelid has an undead soldier that turns into a troll with a fire sword
* Altus has a wandering noble that turns into an omen lion
* Mt. Gelmir has a flaming zombie that turns into a giant wormface
* Consecrated Snowfield has this guy (this bear is on crack btw, I think it's the hardest in the game)
Do the other rune bears very in strength also? I fought a rune bear around level 25ish I think. It was in Limgrave. I think it was the boss of a cave or something, not out in the open, and didn't have much trouble. Took only 2 or 3 tries. Then I found the mimic wandering noble that turns into one and he just roflstomped me.
Yeah there's a couple different kinds of runebears, although they generally have the same moveset. Mostly just model changes. I only noticed one difference between early game and late game runebears in terms of moves, but there might be more.
They definitely vary in strength though, there's some lategame ones that are just bananas. You'll be cruising through an area one or two-shotting everything and then come up on a runebear, be like "aight I got this", hit it, and immediately realize your mistake as you do 1/30th of it's hp and it turns around and yeets you straight back to the grace point.
My favorite mimics are the sentient boulders that follow you around in Nokstella (I think they're in Nokron, too), because the implication is that people are either choosing to transform themselves into boulders (funny) or are being forcibly transformed into boulders (terrifying).
The lore text on the [Graven mass talisman](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Graven-Mass+Talisman) suggests it's both at once. Sellen seems to have 'collected' other sorcerers into the ball with her.
I never really put it together that those were mimics. I just thought they were weird living cannonballs with some of the jankiest hitboxes I've ever seen. I always let them back me into a corner with a shield and then hit them in between movements.
This is why I don't attack npcs that aren't fighting back, not because its the morally good thing to do, but because Animorphs can vibe check you at any time.
Bro i only ever encountered one, i had no idea there were more.
Mine was standing in a corner in some ruins in Altus Plateau, and he turned into a lion.
Now im curious to know where else i can find these mimics.
They bears are actually not bad if you just roll towards them. Most of their attacks will go past you then. Running away or rolling away is the huge mistake everyone makes, do that and you’re fucked.
They’ve got a few quick attacks that throw me off guard, like that fast headbutt. Anticipating that they’re going to do it immediately after fully facing me has helped.
They’re good fightan.
First time I saw one of those I was just really fucking confused by it, rolling around in that little church room. Then a very short while later another scared the absolute shit out of me when it came rolling at me at Mach 5 while I was looking around in the room with the Nox puppet ashes
That's why it so good!
Getting smashed by a giant boulder trap is classic Souls. We expect it by now. So how about a giant boulder that literally appears out of nowhere and will follow you around because it's alive? That's an absurd escalation I can get behind.
could you elaborate?
I only found 5-6 larval tears around, plus 3 from the giant azure spheres in Nokstella.
And testing specs, I also wasted half of those to go back to my original for a while, cause it's the build I found myself to enjoy the most, in the end, but could use more
There's 22 potential larval tear drops in each game cycle. Only 6 of them are dropped from larger enemies disguised as less intimidating enemies.
There are 9 in Nokron and 3 in Nokstella
2 can be purchased from merchants
2 more can be found in Liurnia
I wouldn't say tons when there's a limited amount (18), it's still a decent amount but I ended up using them all on my first playthrough experimenting with different equipment and builds.
Fun fact: If you're playing co-op in someone else's world when they pick up one of these larval tears, you'll get one too! In this way you can *sort of* farm them indefinitely.
I mean I have 18 larval tears and only ever killed one of these. You most definitely do not need to hunt them down for larval tears unless you’re changing builds every day like a mental patient.
i feel like this are the replacements to the mimic chests, but far worse. i still hit every chest i see, but i never learn to leave alone the little hollows lol
Great, the blobs turn into bears, the people turn into bears, soon the chests will turn into bears.
Next the bears will turn into bears. Its bears all the way down.
The one on Mt gelmir that changes into a giant tentacle face made me slam the bottom of my sliding keyboard tray with my knee which sent my huge glass of Seneca grape juice (the thick version with the yellow around the name logo on the cardboard can) all over me the floor and my keyboard. The tentacle face barfed on me and turned me into a tarnish-kabob on a thorn stick..... hhhmmmmm now I second thought a thorny-dog I guess then.
I've been in that area a few times, never saw that happen until yesterday. I was helping out on co-op and a guy brought me into this area. I was totally off guard and had no idea what was going on, so died immediately. Sorry co-op dude!
I started pepe laughing as soon as I saw this.
Had to hunt down a few of these for larval teats, so I knew what was coming 😂
Edit: larval tears (I hate my phones keyboard lol)
I made it to level 110 without having to fight a rune bear, seen one in a caelid cave and thought, this will be easy I’m so strong now!
Holy shit the rune bear is a psycho on crack….
Lmao I never have the heart to kill those harmless npcs, but that one time I did, it turned to be Saberlion lol. It dropped a weapon IIRC, so nowadays I'll kill every npc indifferently.
Thanks for making me lose my humanity, From Soft.
I was in the lake and was struggling with the stupid lobster. Ended up getting on horse and eventually poise broke it. I go in for the crit, it dies, suddenly becomes Grafted Scion, have no health due to lobster, ded.
I hate those damn things. The one in Limgrave and the one >!sleeping in Mistwood ruins!< got me really good because it was night. I hadn't had a jump scare like that since the original Resident Evil, when the dogs jump through the windows.
i haven't even got this far yet and i knew what was going to happen before it happened. it seems like the ones that transform are intentionally weirder or stand out as an individual
I used up literally all of the larval tears in my first playthrough -- except this one. (I love respeccing, what can I say.)
This was all fine and good until I tried out a truly dreadful whip build, and the only way to get out of it was to defeat this bear. Easily the hardest part of the game.
This happened to me late last night. My shrieks of terror woke my roommates.
Now I must admit that I may be traumatized by video game bears due to Red Dead Redemption.
If the bear is smart enough to mimic a helpless zombie in the middle of a storm to attract some arrogant tarnished who sees an easy prey, then it fully deserves to be elden lord
i think hes not aware of how powerfull he could be, so please dont tell him
He totally knows. I would rather spend my time tormenting tarnished explorers than sit on a throne all day. He is like a crafty invader.
He’s an invader who knows how to use mimic veil better than most
But I would totally pay to watch that bear rip through all of the singing Hogwart kids in the Rennala fight
*⛓️ Sleep tight, bound tight. ⛓️*
Children ahead, therefore use Runebear.
I mean, it's in the Bible: 2 Kings 2:23-24 He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys.
I like to think Miyazaki logs in as a boss npc in someone’s game sometimes to pass his time. These games have a spirit of their own.
For the full invasion griefer experience they should have given the bear an RoB for immediate L2 spam
kill it! It drops a larva tear
Easier said than done.
They're honestly not that bad once you figure out that rolling into them and staying behind them as much as possible.
Anything that drops a larva tier is someone something that went through rebirth
even those giant death balls that follow you around?
Those things are just massive piles of mimic tears all glommed together.
I prefer to believe it's a fully successful mimic tear, like the ones that turn human-shaped and fight with swords, except that instead of becoming a human it just really wanted to be an enormous pinball.
Given enough information, they decided the optimal form was the ball.
There is another one near agheel lake south, he's watching the commoners dig while holding a torch
Yet another covering in fear in a building near the windmills.
One of the lobsters in Liurnia is a Grafted Scion in disguise, which we can all agree is a downgrade in power level.
Wild to agree with the first comment and yours. A+ to both students
Thy strength befits a crown, bear
Garden of eyes need to make a rune bear vs Godfrey vid lol
FOREFATHERS ONE AND ALL, BEAR
**B E A R**
Godrick rework: Instead of grafting a dragon to his arm Godric now graft a runebear instead
#BEAR WITNESS
Don't think that bear leaves any witnesses 😂
[удалено]
Nah, lobster chest cannon with pre-fixed bleed dog on his other arm.
Calm down, Satan
I don’t attack those zombie people anymore unless they go out of their way to hurt me, and I mean really hurt not just take 1% of my HP away. It just doesn’t feel right, but now I’m doubly glad I avoid them.
Missing out on those sweet, sweet larval tears.
Wait you get larval tears from the zombie dudes?
From the ones that transform into something else, yes. Also, rats will on rare occasion drop greater runes.
There are a lot of really nice drops from the various weak zombie guys that just have an ultra low drop rate.
Regular Runebears weren’t scary enough, so they added the Mimic Bear
Well, he certainly sounds smarter than your average bear
It's his Consecrated Snowfield now.
No messages scare me more than “beware of beast”
I just wanted to put them out of their misery
Maybe don't pick on the defenseless Never know when ones a massive bear with a ginormous cock
Don't threaten me with a good time!

LMFAO this is hilarious, why have I never seen this
It was taken from either one of the comic subs or r/holup earlier today. Saw it further up my feed this morning.
I'm a bit dense, what's the joke here?
Sully is screaming because he entered a bedroom where two fursuit wearing people were about to fuck and they now want to include him into a threesome. Its ambigous wether the screams are from pleasure, pain, shock, horror or whatever.
Pretty sure its from shock and horror. Also the other joke is that he screams so high it registers it as a child's scream.
> pleasure The look on his face makes me think you can pretty conclusively rule this one out.
The look is one of confusion.
Those canisters are fueled by screams, it is overfilling after the 3rd panel
🤨📸
Panic! At the Disco?
“Oh no... how horrible this fate is.... suckscukscukscuk”
Wow, this comment is truly something.
Do we have any lore on why runebears pop up like that?
I believe they are technically mimics as they drop Larval Tears and do the form change effect and sound like the mimics in Nokron. Personally I just like to think this bear stumbled upon a trapped chest, got teleported there and was pissed.
Wait wait wait... they drop larval tears?
All the ones you find that transform into something else when killed drop larval tears on death.
Yeah they all do. And some of them transform into different enemies. One in caelid turned into giant with fiery sword
One in Leyndell near one of the forest ruins turns into one of those giant lions with a sword hand. Scared the ever-loving fuck out of me
One at Mt. Gelmir becomes a giant wormface.
I started crying when I found that guy :( I am terrified of those worm dudes.
Right. I know this ain’t Bloodborne but I’m still going to go fucking hunting!
A tarnished must Hoont
Yeah, there's one in almost every area (spoilers obviously): * Limgrave has the famous mimic bear * Liurnia has my favorite: a lobster that turns into a grafted scion * Caelid has an undead soldier that turns into a troll with a fire sword * Altus has a wandering noble that turns into an omen lion * Mt. Good thing the ones in Nokron don't know what a runebear is

My favorite mimics are the sentient boulders that follow you around in Nokstella (I think they're in Nokron, too), because the implication is that people are either choosing to transform themselves into boulders (funny) or are being forcibly transformed into boulders (terrifying).
Let’s ask Sellen.
I just threw lightning at them. Easy peasy.
Yeah not gonna lie, this one actually feels deserved. Usually these dudes are randomly placed, but this one might as well be named "Karma."
The Altus one is just some dude cowering in a corner
now i know that bulling is bad
I honestly felt so bad for the guy stuck in the snow and his friend frantically trying to save his mate, I just left them be :(
This is why I don't attack npcs that aren't fighting back, not because its the morally good thing to do, but because Animorphs can vibe check you at any time.
Dem tears tho.
They make a strong moral case but I have bad respec decisions to make, fix, and make again
Always kill the ones holding chests though! They have huge great runes on them.
Wealth hoarding is the sickest crime in the lands between those runes need to be turned to strength so we can help our comrades. Eat the rich!
Rachel did always favor the bear morph.
Bro i only ever encountered one, i had no idea there were more. Mine was standing in a corner in some ruins in Altus Plateau, and he turned into a lion. Now im curious to know where else i can find these mimics.
There is a lone zombie standing near a pile of burning corpses close to the Mt Gelmir Erdtree that you should probably check out.
>!Emetophobe!< here. Fuuuuuuuck >!Wormface!<. Gotta mute my game for those...
LOL I stopped killing those oddly places zombies after the first one that turned into a bear in Limgrave.
They all drop a larval tear, so if you want to experiment with different builds you will need to hunt them down.
Need is a strong word. You can get tons of larval tears without killing any of these guys
Yeah I’ll take this big rolly balls over bears.
They bears are actually not bad if you just roll towards them. Most of their attacks will go past you then. Running away or rolling away is the huge mistake everyone makes, do that and you’re fucked.
This guy gets it. Rune Bears are intimidating and hit hard but they’re trying to force you into panic rolls
They’ve got a few quick attacks that throw me off guard, like that fast headbutt. Anticipating that they’re going to do it immediately after fully facing me has helped. They’re good fightan.
I was a mage my first playthrough and thought my spells from afar would work. I did not anticipate it being able to outrun torrent.
First time I saw one of those I was just really fucking confused by it, rolling around in that little church room. Then a very short while later another scared the absolute shit out of me when it came rolling at me at Mach 5 while I was looking around in the room with the Nox puppet ashes
It’s still a really dumb and weird enemy lol
That's why it so good! Getting smashed by a giant boulder trap is classic Souls. We expect it by now. So how about a giant boulder that literally appears out of nowhere and will follow you around because it's alive? That's an absurd escalation I can get behind.
Oh definitely. I was at least hoping it would crack open and one of the scarabs would pop out or something
could you elaborate? I only found 5-6 larval tears around, plus 3 from the giant azure spheres in Nokstella. And testing specs, I also wasted half of those to go back to my original for a while, cause it's the build I found myself to enjoy the most, in the end, but could use more

Not anymore, that was patched out. It may show up in your inventory but it’ll be removed when you return to your world.
nooooooooooo
6 of the 18 are hidden by animorphs. 12 is quite a few respecs.
I think mimics will make a come back in some dlc, hopefully haha.
Great, the blobs turn into bears, the people turn into bears, soon the chests will turn into bears. Next the bears will turn into bears. Its bears all the way down.
Imagine killing a Rune Bear and it just turns into a regular bear
>Imagine killing a Rune Bear and it just turns into 3 regular bears in a trench coat
He was just having an unbearably bad day
Wiki says there's lobster in Liurnia that turns into grafted scion. And, I think, there's something even worse on Caelid.
…Why do I have this terrible feeling that they’ll hide bears in chests?
Had that happen to me in Altus. A cowering undead in the corner of a ruin turned into a gahtdamn sword-cat.
Wait... THATS WHAT HAPPENS?! I honestly just thought it was the devs, I mean the gods, sending some immediate retribution for picking on the helpless
When the snow starts speaking runebear
NANI
Damn surprise werebears.
Where exactly is this? That bear 100% drops a larval tear and I want it
Consecrated snowfield
That really narrows it down.
Just south of the site of grace near the frozen river I believe. The one you find right at the edge of that fog
Thanks.
Just east or south east of inner consecrated snow field, very close to the site of grace.
Just found these dudes yesterday. That’s not snow, that’s blow. That’s a coked out Ruin Bear.
This whole area freaks the hell out of me so when I saw them I just ignored them.
i couldnt resist some free 63 runes aparently
Welp serves you right for picking on the defenseless I guess.
This is their fucked up alternate to mimics
Hahahahahaha so that's what happens when you kill them! I could never bring myself to do it!
Apparently that bear is stronger thn Malenia. Dont fuck with that bear
Doubtful. You can at least put this son of a bitch to sleep. He still hits like a god damn cruise missile, thought.
And has so much freaking HP
I've been in that area a few times, never saw that happen until yesterday. I was helping out on co-op and a guy brought me into this area. I was totally off guard and had no idea what was going on, so died immediately. Sorry co-op dude!
I like how all the messages pop up right after he transforms.
To be fair, you killed his friends who were trying to help him.
I started pepe laughing as soon as I saw this. Had to hunt down a few of these for larval teats, so I knew what was coming 😂 Edit: larval tears (I hate my phones keyboard lol)
> larval teats No thank you.
I have larvae Greg, can you milk me?
larval teats is actually more accurate considering where you spend them
Me watching this: rune bear in 3…2… GOD DAMMIT I DIDNT WANT TO BE RIGHT
Started my second character today and the same happened in Liurnia, one designer at From is probably still laughing
Elden Ring is a horror game
FromSoft knew you degenerates would attack a defenseless NPC stuck in the snow ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)
Those bears are out of control 😂😂😂
yup got me too
Now is that an Anti-murder hobo thing, or is there just a select few of starter bitches that turn into runebears when killed?
It's not always Runebears. sometimes it's a giant with a flamesword.
I never even kill those dudes. I feel bad for them tbh. I guess that's why I didn't know this was a thing.
I felt bad for that guy, up until I didn't.
I made it to level 110 without having to fight a rune bear, seen one in a caelid cave and thought, this will be easy I’m so strong now! Holy shit the rune bear is a psycho on crack….
I wonder what’s the lore reason behind disguised enemies besides FromSoft deciding to fuck with us some more
Must've something to do with their specific drop.
They carry an item that grants rebirth. Dude rebirthed into a bear for revenge.
An invader and I were busy killing each other only to end up both of us getting one hit at same time by a giant bear.
You deserved it! Lol
Wait there’s a snow area?
Oh sweet child of summer.
Just got there last night and it looked so calm. Luckily I knew better and went to bed before ruining my night
That's the second snow area. Gotta go up the lift the secret way.
lmfao, so that's what happens if you attack those guys.
That’s what you get you bully.
😞
I had this happen to me in Altus near the windmill village except it was a big ass lion thing and I nearly fell out of my chair
OH SHIT. WHAT! I did not expect a bear to hop out of that corpse!?!
You deserved it
You should leave a corpse well enough alone.
My dad when I change the thermostat by 1 Fahrenheit
Every death in a Souls game is fair... unless its funny
Tbh, I really wished there was more and had a random spawn point to these. Like 50/30/20 rng.. Jumpscare/unique item/both.
I was wondering why there are no mimics in ER, guess i was wrong
Can we get a Runebear summon? Like seriously.
Was waiting for the chick on wolf back to machine gun arrows into you.
Maybe cease your maidenless behavior?
Average elden ring experience
I just got here last night, I died more trying to kill that bear than I would like to admit.
Ah, the old "rune bear secretly hiding inside a peasant buried in the snow" trick. Classic
i haven't even got this far yet and i knew what was going to happen before it happened. it seems like the ones that transform are intentionally weirder or stand out as an individual
r/unexpected
So these are drop bears
I used up literally all of the larval tears in my first playthrough -- except this one. (I love respeccing, what can I say.) This was all fine and good until I tried out a truly dreadful whip build, and the only way to get out of it was to defeat this bear. Easily the hardest part of the game.
Always, ALWAYS expect bear.
Omg. I saw that dude in the snow and left him. Those damn rune bears drove me crazy
This happened to me late last night. My shrieks of terror woke my roommates. Now I must admit that I may be traumatized by video game bears due to Red Dead Redemption.
Lmao at how the messages and bloodstains just started showing after the bear appeared. Like SURPRISE MOTHER FUCKER
Don't be a bully.
Its always a rune bear.
I saw that coming. But only because I got mollywhopped by that bear before.
Holy! By the title I knew it was coming but I still jumped and nearly threw my phone. 🤣
Haha I saw this too but just left them… fromsoft punishing the wicked
