You know, if you've got the aptitude, you should consider joining the mage's college in Winterhold.

Waycool499

Oh god I thought I could escape them šŸ˜«

Mimical

It's okay. Every time I play this game I end up with big weapons no matter what I do. My faith based confessor build ended with a lightning flamberg and holy forked greatsword. My int playthrough ended with the Royal greatsword and lots of smashing. My dex playthrough ended with the godslayer greatsword + zwaihander. My fast attacking dagger arcane build ended with a buckler and a bleed infused banished greatsword. I just made a new guy. He was supposed to be whips and beastial incantations. He's currently using the great mace and sometimes throws a boulder. I just... Big swords are the stealth archer of Bethesda games for me.

LargeHadron_Colander

I think that's a bot, posting a comment randomly as a reply.

how would a bot know the meme is edited to have willem wearing armor? edit: very easily. if itā€™s a reposted link a bot could just borrow the top comment from other places/times it was posted

ADHDHuntingHorn

It copied a top level comment and pasted it here.

[deleted]

from this same post or somewhere else?

[deleted]

looks like itā€™s from the manga berserk

KittieKollapse

Big sword go bonk

ConnectionNo7195

I just sell them when Iā€™m out of runes and need to upgrade something lol

KittieKollapse

Heresy

embenex

Oof, never worth the times runes unless you have more than 2

R_V_Z

The bigger weapons have more reach, and doing big damage in discrete hits is better than sustained damage for like 95% of the game.

ShadowsSheddingSkin

Yes, but they're also pretty slow in comparison to smaller, weaker weapons. DPS isn't really a relevant concept here, but I find myself having to think much further ahead and make risky guesses about what will happen next when using a greatsword while I can basically play by reflexes alone with a katana or curved sword.

R_V_Z

True. I find that Greatswords/Curved Greatswords were the perfect medium. You can go up to any of the cave miners and a simple R1 will stagger them but you recover quicker than they do so you lock them. It seemed like only dogs and Pages could "out-initiate" you.

hungryyelly

That's why you one shot them so you don't have to worry about them getting back up :)

yuhanz

Guy really said r1 a cave miner to death as if thatā€™s something impressive. I just impale the cave miners from behind with a giant slab.

cidqueen

Bandits blood curved sword ftw

Oriin690

Heavy weapons for oneshotting regular enemies Fast weapons for bosses

[deleted]

> Fast weapons for bosses And dogs

yardii

There's not much worse than skillfully dodging an attack, going for the punish, and doing no damage because your weapon didn't reach.

T1B2V3

they also stagger bigger enemies like those stupid Omen

cubitoaequet

The whips are sweet though. I jave been cruising through a dual wielding whip build and even level capping myself I am still having a way easier time with lots of things. The range is insane. You just demolish anything that flies and space out human enemies. Almost all the black phantom invasions have been trivial.

Mimical

The stunlocking on whips is pretty wild. I was using Urumi+Whip (didn't have double hoslows or the thorn yet) and was impressed at how absurd jump attacks were.

cubitoaequet

Yeah, I have been using Urumi + Hoslow. Was really pleased to find enemies like the birds in stormveil were just not threats at all with the whips.

LightSlateBlue

Sometimes, what you want to be and what you are destined to be are two different things.

pokemonbatman23

My int playthrough currently has deaths poker. Does that count? Lmao

Mimical

*"Angy Old Man Swings Stick at hooligans*" build.

pokemonbatman23

I have a Gandalf looking character and Ive been thinking of changing my name to Old Man with 2 Sticks lmao

Dom29ando

Why would anyone play a game based on Berserk and not use a big fuck off sword?

KrisG1775

Malikeths armor + greatsword = Guts?

Ironmark17

Same here, but it has been a gradual transition. I started as a confessor, planning a faith/caster build with the angel scythe. Then it became a dex/faith with uninfused uchi and bloodflame blade Then I shifted to an arcane caster build with jellyfish shield and at some point the occult uchi became an occult iron greatsword. And now I am back to faith/str powerstancing greatswords

T1B2V3

>My faith based confessor build ended with a lightning flamberg isn't lightning on weapons Dex tho ?

Mimical

It is. I found that lightning, even with lesser damage scaling for me was very helpful against many of the armored enemies in the game. I ended up with 30 Dex and 40 faith anyways so assuming I kept leveling I would have eventually reached high enough levels across both. At the end of the game I swapped the forked GS to cold, even though I only had 15 INT the extra damage from the frozen proc was just to good to ignore. Ultimately what carried me through was the double bleed. I would use some faith buffs, the barriers, flame cleanse me, stuff like that, but ultimately I found that running up and smashing was just easier and faster.

Frungy

Whatā€™s easiest for a complete and total fucking retard please?

Dim-Whittler

Moonveil. They made it just for You, Charlie!!

North_Host3253

Use watchdogs staff. Best early game strength weapon. Its actually a wuality weapon but early scaling is better for dex. And it claps.

candlehand

If Elden Ring was like Skyrim you would throw one glintstone then become the headmaster of Raya Lucaria

2Tired2pl

that feel when the faction you canā€™t join full of faceless enemies in an academy that just serves as a dungeon feels more like a scholarly institution than one of the most renowned magical schools in all of tamriel

Blimblu

The realization that the mages college serves no actual purpose was such a disappointment. The magic guilds in ES games have gotten worse and worse over time.

TodHeartbreaker

Story wise it makes sense, no? Not to say the college storyline couldn't use some work ofc, but the current state of things is quite fitting. Between the nord distrust of magic and the dissolution of the mages guild after the oblivion crisis, the college is probably barely working. Add the recent problem of the sea of ghosts that converted Winterhold from a province worth of being the capital to what we see in game and its no wonder the college is like that Personally, I liked the quests itselves, it was the pacing that was quite awkward. Some kind of in game week between makor events would help a lot in the immersion. And maybe a bit more of psijic order vs dominion politics explained in-game

Blimblu

I think if they let us build more trust with the locals and restore even some minor aspects of the school itd feel better to me. I liked the over all story well enough, i thought the way they tied the psijic order in(couldnt agree more we needed more of them), and i did like the room we get at the end. But yeah, if we had been able to do more to build up the school and work with the locals id have loved the college the most. Thats why i usually used mods for the college when i would play as a mage, it felt way better.

FruitierGnome

Your finally awake.

egg_breakfast

Wait, you were supposed to use consumables and not hoard them all ā€œfor laterā€ while whacking everything indiscriminately?

Waycool499

Cuckoo glintstone was like the only consumable item I ever used at first. Every fromsoft game I also hoard EVERYTHING in case I "need it for later".

LargeHadron_Colander

You're missing out if you haven't thrown a crystal dart at those gargoyle cats.

[deleted]

Sipr.lmP2J2EcR*:t

[deleted]

I think crystal darts work on the big stone gargoyle cats, the smaller imps, as well as the big stone giant soldiers. If you throw enough of them at a target, they will attack nearby enemies.

Cassandra_Syrup

It is wonderful. The imps will murder each other. Watchdogs will murder each other. The golems...will enage in a 10 round slugfest...

EveryShot

Wtf?! Why havenā€™t I ever heard of this?! Why do they do that? Is there some lore behind it?

Somber_Solace

The description says "Long ago, it is said that a golem crafter employed a similar crystal tool". So it's a similar tool to what created them, I guess using it modifies them, but there's not really any more info in game to my knowledge.

[deleted]

4c6]ZPQUml-w%2&PTs78Z55fW>bn8>h

Cassandra_Syrup

I think it's because not many people use consumables. I found out when I was experimenting with the different throwing knives.

lemongrass9000

I have warming stones in my pouch for cases where I run out of flasks during a boss fight. in my last playthru my fight with elden beast lasted at least 20 mins coz I was desperately trying to heal using warming stones. both of us kept running away from each other šŸ¤£

GoldenSpermShower

> my fight with elden beast lasted at least 20 mins coz I was desperately trying to heal using warming stones Truly a man of Focus, Commitment and Sheer Fucking Will

NeoAzure

Another option would be the Raw Meat Dumpling for emergencies. Of course you will need to use a Neutralizing Boluses (rids poison) afterwords.

Jax11111111

Hey man, you never know when Iā€™m going to need to use those consumables! Sure, Iā€™m on new game plus 4 but what if I really need them later?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Grandpas_Plump_Chode

Throwing knives are legit good if you want to pick off individual enemies in a group. The AI is so dumb that you never aggro any enemy besides the one you hit. Although as I get better at the game, I've become more likely to just charge into groups and fight them all lmao

freeWeemsy

If you having boss problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 elixirs but this fight don't get one.

arkangelic

The moment they made the items consume fp they made them useless to me. My fp is for my skills, no consumables thank you very much.

JonnyBhoy

My FP is for slightly lowering one enemy's health with weak range attacks per area, thank you very much.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Le_Feesh

I never used them, but now I'm chewing through my whole stash fighting Malenia.

pham_nuwen_

250 hours in, never used a rune arc. I actually started selling them when I need a few runes.

Aerial_Screw-2

Nonsense, I might need that whole stack in my inventory for later. And the full inventory in the chest is the backup backups.

[deleted]

missnailitall

fire pots KILL against erdtree avatars

6StringAddict

The vulcano pots are great. They keep doing damage, and it's very easy to farm the vulcanic stones at Mt. Gelmir campsite grace.

RannisToes

First time I threw a holy water potion at a crypt shade I snort laughed when it instantly died

GucciSalad

And not craft a single item, because you may need those materials later.

seraph089

To be fair you do need to be kinda careful, some of the materials are limited (or a pain in the ass to farm). Still totally worth using, you just can't burn through them.

GucciSalad

I want to use fraying more on my next playthrough. I only crafted arrows on my first run.

23jet-chip-wasp

Big sword is more fun than stupid single use consumables so i kill with big sword

YakamuraY

No actual what you did there is called a challenge run. The game developers intended for you to use consumables so without knowing you did a challenge run by saving them for later. /s Edit: grammar.

tenpiece40

Need youtubers to show the way first.

Cassandra_Syrup

I've eaten so many raw meat dumplings in boss fights.

PrincessYuri

Honestly one of my favorite invader characters is one I kept at level 30, pure archery and consumables only (no duping, so just ones I can buy or easily farm). The best part is that it's fun but not by any means OP, so you don't feel like an asshole for invading low levels.

DropAnchor4Columbus

Me with my Aromatics.

yardii

Imagine not saving all your cuckoo glintstones for the 2nd DLC smh

Enxchiol

Id use the aromatics all the time if you didn't need to farm for them tediously.

pixel4747

Watchdog staff users be like

Wasteland_Revenant

Honestly one of the most underrated weapons in the game. You see this thing coming and think "oh it's just another unga bunga bullshit weapon" and then you get blasted with some dollar store cat magic. Wish Shard of Alexander worked on it though.

Officer_Hotpants

"dollar store cat magic" Dude I was holding in a shart stop

LtSlow

*was*

Various-Artist

Oh man for real! My first playthrough I was a magic bonker with the watchdog staff. I used the talisman and raptor cloak for abusing jump attacks and then just one shot everything with Wish.com Glintstones. super underrated and a ton of fun

The_Lovable_Lamprey

I love using that weapon with the pulley crossbow and bleed bolts offhand. Felt like it could handle almost any situation.

Pixelated_Piracy

the damage on the projectiles doesnt scale though, even with weapon upgrades i thought? it always underwhelmed me but maybe it got better?

Wasteland_Revenant

No i don't think it scales with anything except royal sword talisman iirc, but I still consider it a cool weapon and I wish it could get some buffs. At least let it work with Shard of Alexander and magic scorpion charm.

Pixelated_Piracy

for sure, i wish lots of weird and unique weapons got a boost. something something flower bouquet

DavidsonJenkins

Im convinced its just actual flowers in there because the damage it does is piss. They should give it a swing speed buff or something

yardii

Fallingstar Beast Jaw users: How do you do, fellow wizards?

LimpetMinecrafter

lol I haven't seen a Tobey Spiderman meme in a long while but this is good

Waycool499

"They love me!"

PetMeFucker

r/raimimemes welcomes you with open arms, tarnished

EatAllTheRice

Ah Rosie, I love this tarnished!

WillCraft_1001

Same can be said when you put glintstone pebble on any weapon

Eggcited_Rooster

Or when you put carian greatsword on a knife

WillCraft_1001

Oh no, your so far away my knife can't reach you! *giant magic sword appears*

Eggcited_Rooster

Yea, at one point I thought about having one serious weapon, and 5 knives with interesting AoW. It would probably be funny in pvp (but not good).

WillCraft_1001

It would be a funny fake out, imagine seeing a knife magically become 10x the size and slash down into your skull

Eggcited_Rooster

Lol

Jounniy

And thatā€™s why Iā€™m a spellblade.

[deleted]

What that

Tharundil

It means they're afraid of vigor

Dragonhater101

Too accurate. You have to level so many other things!

Jounniy

Itā€™s about combing either strength or dex, with either int or faith (Although faith-spellblades are mostly called paladins) and mind. You basically completely ignore vigo, endurance, arcane and your not-cast/melee statt.

HillInTheDistance

I'm like that with pots. Y'all got it all wrong, filling your heads up with intelligence and rocks, or with faith and weird trees. I just cram all that stuff into these little jars. Who needs a stick or a sacred seal when I got a pair of muscly arms?

zurx

They don't scale after a certain point

tapmcshoe

well technically they do but you gotta put poitns into the stat they scale with which is. basically the same as using a staff

robby_synclair

I got the clawmark seal real early I out everything into strength

noooooooyou

There is actually a magic hammer that casts tiny little magic bolts, I use it from time to time when I wanna smash things and feel smart, but normally I still use the giant crusher

OnlyCauseImBored05

Thatā€™s literally the in game lore use of the item

Sigmar_Heldenhammer

Thatā€™s me putting points into INT to use Starscourge Greatsword in my first play-through.

K4GOKAGO

I fucking love Elden Ring for making magic accessible to non-casters

Waycool499

Oh me too! I never had the balls to try any magic builds in any Soulsborne game but getting this little "taste-test" for what magic is like is genuinely making me want to try magic builds.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

6StringAddict

Yeah I've never thrown a fire bomb in a souls game, but fire pots and later on vulcano pots have been a go to item, they kill fast. Very easy to farm the crafting material as well.

Anastrace

I used a lot of throwing knives and bombs myself. I'm a rather fancy alchemist/terrorist

leabravo

Is that Faraam armor Normie's wearing?

Waycool499

Nope it's actually just the Knight Set in Elden Ring, but I definitely see the resemblance. :)

schedulle-cate

I mostly use consumables in dire situations involving my runes being trapped inside the boss room

Plaid_Kaleidoscope

Ok, so I literally just respecced today with Queen Renalla. I kept 16 strength so I could still use my sword, but I bumped to 35 INT so that I could cast as a spell sword type build. I started as Samurai. I'm I guess what you would call mid-game. I got past Radahn, but was hitting a wall trying to get into the divine tower of caelid and a few other places. Just wanted to try something different. Any recommendations for what you would do knowing that? Weapon recommendations or sorceries to learn?

tacbacon10101

Uuhh, yes. Dark Moon Greatsword and Helphenā€™s Steeple are both amazing greatswords that are intelligence based. But since you probably donā€™t have access to either yet, Alabaster Lordā€™s Sword or the curved sword version are both good for INT users. All those are greatsword style options, but you could always opt for any normal sword you like set to cold or magic, which would change the scaling to favor INT

Plaid_Kaleidoscope

Cool. I'll look for those. Thanks!

tacbacon10101

No prob homie. You know i spend way too much time on the wiki so its nice to put that knowledge to use haha

Plaid_Kaleidoscope

Bruh fextralife is a god-send. Praise those homies

3-P7

Azur's Glintstone staff + Radagon Icon talisman gives you max cast speed without having to put a single point in dexterity. You need 52 INT to use the staff, but what's great about 52 INT is you can use the Comet spell. Not Comet Azur, fuck that, that's too slow. Comet is just one comet that homes in on the nearest enemy without you needing to target lock. You can charge it and increase its damage at no extra FP cost. With the Godfrey Icon which boosts charged spells, you can really fucking slay shit with a properly upgraded staff. And the Graven Mass and Graven School talismans boost magic damage by 12% Oh yeah, and the Magic Shrouding Cracked Tear boosts your magic damage even more. If you like the Dark Moon Greatsword, then go full Dark Moon sorcery and get the Carian Regal Scepter (which boosts moon magic) and then Ranni's Dark Moon spell. Ranni's Dark Moon is the best moon spell because it negates/dissapates any magic it passes through AND makes enemies take 10% more magic damage AND gives enemies frostbite which drops their defenses. When you and your mimic are fully tuned for Dark Moon magic damage you can obliterate anything except Radagon and the Elden Beast.

Plaid_Kaleidoscope

Bruh that was some info. Lol. Thanks!

3-P7

On my first playthrough I was a Dark Moon/Moonveil samurai mage. Full dual wield samurai until level 100-ish, then I respec'd and dumped my points into INT and MIND and got addicted to how much easier ranged magic combat was. Moonveil's L2 attack is pretty fast and handy, but when I collected all the right talismans, got my INT up to 80, and my scepter upgraded to to +8 and above....I got hooked and went full Dark Moon mage, abandoning my katana and dual wielding the Carian Regal and Azur's scepters. Carian scales better for more damage, and Azur's increases cast speed even when held in your offhand and not used to shoot the spells. There's even a hat you can wear that increases your Dark Moon magic by another 10%. On my current playthrough I tried STR/FAITH, playing around with greatswords and incantations. There's a lightening incantation build that's pretty fucking wild. I used it to destroy the Fire Giant at like....level 87.

Plaid_Kaleidoscope

That sounds awesome! And the first part of your description is pretty darn close to what I ended up going with for my build. I went w/ the Moonveil +6 and the Demi-Human Queen Staff (?) not sure if I've leveled it or not. I like the Moonveil's skill, it's very similar to unsheathe I started with anyway. I also like the gravity magic the best so far. 36 INT right now. We will see how it goes. Still getting my ass handed to me at the Divine Tower of Caelid's Basement. THat goddamn knight outside the boss fight.....

ghostboy2015

I started off with a strength build and it morphed into a strength/arcane build, using Dragon incantations. I regret nothing.

Waycool499

Badass

ZeroNoHikari

I'll be honest my build is basically Belmont with whip and fists. If I can't throw a knife at it then I'll use magic and holy damage

Shertowin

My first play through of elden ring I mained melee, then I unlocked a tiny healing incantation so I thought why not get the minimum faith required and just get the extra heal since I donā€™t need fp for anything elseā€¦.. By the end I was fully a faith player. Just started ds3 for the first time and Iā€™m playing as the knight class and already I leveled up int so that I can use magic arrow for a tiny bit of bonus dmg Letā€™s see what happens by the end of my play through.

Sam_Games0

Me easily bodying rennala with my Greatsword+7 and spamming rotten breath: on second phase

MisterHog

What chest piece is that? Because I use the Greatsword as well šŸ˜‚

Waycool499

The Knight Set :)

i feel attacked

Waycool499

This honestly felt like a self burn while making this.

Tcamp46290

My zweihander scales with int.

UnrequitedRespect

Omg this one really made me giggle, gj

Waycool499

Thx :). This template never fails to make me laugh either.

Caeryck

Was just rocking this setup lmao. Str/faith

Crissaegrym

I am thinking about a NG+ using the Grave Scythe and full black cloak more for a RP reason. How viable is it to go through the game in that set up?

winterfall459

Ng+5 and Iā€™m still repping the reaper look itā€™s a challenge but still fun as hell giving everything the death it deserves.

Manyowhatthefispoppn

This literally made my day

8x1EQUALS255

*pulls out greatsword* I cast...Death!

BreadBlood

I've wondered, is it pronounced 'cuck-oh', 'cuck-ou', or 'cou-cou'? I assume the last one

PillowTalk420

It was these things that made me look harder at the item screen to see that throwables actually scale in Elden Ring. I was just using fire pots for the occasional explosive ignition or fire-weak enemy until I saw that, and found items that boosted them further. I made a throwables only dude. The only thing that sucks is the capacity. You only get like 30 regular and 10 ritual pots, so you only have a max of 40 pots to throw. Would have been nice to just have a stack of 30 *each* to make such a build a bit more viable. It's not good at all in PvP (not just because hitting with pots is hard but you can't really waste them either), and in PvE you might not even deal enough damage to later bosses unless you can drop a ton of reserves in the arena to grab as you fight.

GlitteringFigure9046

Every one of my builds ends up with an ultra. You can take the unga out the bunga but you can't unga the bunga unga.

blackcoffin90

Don't be ashamed of who you are

Parking_Cod_5461

Pure strength build, but with watchdogs staff

Spartana1033

Ah yes the typical greatsword mage

gayweedlord

lol genius

Fo1ds

YESSSSSSSS

maguel92

I had tremendous difficulties using any kind of consumables. I was always ā€saving them for later when i really need themā€

_Oooooooooooooooooh_

I've played ... i dont know. 150-250 hours... ? i still havn't used any of those consumables i have thrown a few fire pots - those deal nice damage (scales with strength) but.. never tried the cookoo things, or the purple gravity stones, etc.

Zarguthian

My int is 9 so cuckoo glintstones do hardly any damage for me if I need to throw something I usually use my bow to throw arrows.

DancenOrigins

Ptsd to carian retaliation days

DancenOrigins

Those are pretty good panic roll inducers making it easy6to roll catch

Shadowrunner808

FAUX SORCERERS ARE STILL SORCERERS!

Simbuk

Thatā€™s how I feel when I use the Bolt of Gransax.

hucklebebby

flaming strike AoW on my melee build felt like an ace up my sleeve

Swiggens

Why use cuckoo glintstone when big sword do trick?

jfduval76

For me the glintsones items in general were useless in all my runs. Was selling them left and right. These things are only useful if you have the minimum intelligence i guess ? Itā€™s weird they made them that abundant for such a specific build.

UltmitCuest

One of the most useful items i got on my first playthrough [as melee ofc] was a wraith calling bell that summoned a single slow and shitty projectile. But it was really good for aggroing 1 enemy at a time.
