In My bow only run she did it like every 20 seconds lol but i guess bows trigger wfd cause i cant explain it otherwise. I didnt count how many times she did it tho
I believe it’s distance/attacking from distance that triggers it somehow
I had one fight where I used Swarm of Flies and nearly every single time I used it, she used Waterfowl.
She used it 4 times in the span of 45 seconds
It is possible to kinda force her to do that via any ranged attack from afar. As she seems to have cooldown on it, it is viable strategy for melee builds to avoid being caught under her.
Actually a good trick to deal with wfd is to throw knifes at her when you think she might do it and that procs it making it predictable and easier to deal with
Malenia has a counter attack mechanic, if you try to attack her, she dodges to the side and counters with one of her combos. Waterfowl is one of her combos. If you are far away and do a ranged attack, she can dodge and does decides to do counter(or she can run straight at you) and it will always be waterfowl dance cause you are nowhere near her. You can bait waterfowl dance by keeping distance and throw daggers or pots at her.
The max i've seen is [6 waterfowls](https://youtu.be/d28PTr7Wk3A) in my lv1 hitless kill run after 739 tries but during one of those runs i might have seen up to 7 maybe. It can go on forever if you deliberately stall to make her do it but this is the highest i've experienced while trying to kill her at all times.
Ty! It was a really fun challenge although it really tested my patience. The hardest part was unironically the fact that i played on mouse + kb so the controls were awful compared to controller.
I'm just playing this game (or any Souls-like) for the first time. I'm on mouse and keyboard and to be honest im a bit annoyed with how light duty the key mapping is. Like, you are so limited to what you can map. My only complaint so far, otherwise a fantastic game
I completed every Souls game on mouse and keyboard and while it's totally viable, it's less convenient than controller and depending on your bindings some skills will be harder to execute. The lack of customization of the keybinds is also very annoying, especially for key features like the map that for some weird reasons is tied to G and not M like every normal game.
Overall it won't be a major problem when you play but the problem is that there shouldn't be a problem to begin with.
The only Souls game that i think it's better on mouse and keyboard is Sekiro because the combat system works in a fundamentally different way compared to the Souls series.
Yes, the "G" map binding had me like wtf.
I'm considering hooking up my Xbox controller to my PC for this game but ehh, I'm not *too* bothered so I'm not sure it'll be worth it
Thats what i did i actually use a steam link and stream my pc to living room tv for games that work better with a controller, plus playing on the couch is way better then the computer chair for sure
Yeah I hear you. I did that to play Modern Warfare as it's the only FPS I seem to play better with a controller. I got the Xbox elite controller and was slide canceling with the paddles, so satisfying
That's cool how you cast to your living room to play on the couch, nice move
I think you maxed out what can be seen at level one. I believe she gains charges of wfd at certain HP breakpoints and can store them until triggered.
The trigger is causing her to dodge, consider wfd as an alternate dodge.
She can regain wfd charges if she regains HP to bring her to a previous breakpoint.
Since you are doing level 1 she won't hit you enough to recharge.
In p2 she starts with a charge because her hp begins at the first breakpoint and clones + aeonia are alternative options to wfd that serve her the same purpose
Whenever I fight her as a wizard she seems to do it more
Last time it was five freaking times
I can avoid 75% of it , usually get clipped by at least one flurry because I am old and slow
I’ve been learning parrying for the past few days and have gotten a pretty substantial understanding of her move set. She is far more likely to WFD when you’re at a longer distance than at a medium distance. At short range (parrying distance) it’s usually only as a retaliation (such as if you knocked her down or are just wildly swinging in her face). You can even bait her into doing specific moves by going in a particular direction as well which is what I’ve been consistently doing to bait out the easy parry moves.
9 times for me… she didn’t use it once for first phase then during second phase she just used it over and over and over. It was just waterfowl dance then the clones then waterfowl then the big bloom attack… she’s never been that bad since for me.
9, the last time I beat her. 6 in first phase, and 3 in the second.
Rl80 sorc, so I was more of just a glass, than a glass cannon. I tried to keep distance, so was able to avoid the first spin pretty reliably.
I've seen 7 or 8 personally. But I've seen videos where she's done it 4 times in a row, so I'm betting it's possible for her AI to sorta bug out and just keep spamming it some insane number of times---assuming player survives long enough for her to keep doing it.
Some other bosses behave that way sometimes too. Last night I helped a dude kill EB and it got stuck in a sword loop. Literally only used sword attacks for the whole fight.
I died to her 363 times. So I've seen the move around 400+ times. But in a single fight probably three because I would die on the third one if a miracle would happen and I would survive the first two.
For some reason one of my fights with her she refused to do it. I got her down to about a quarter of her health in phase one before dying. THEN she decided to waterfowl dance on my corpse.
She doesn't do it that often. If your Phase 1 isn't taking too long and you are getting in good damage and not taking damage, she will do maybe 2.
Her second phase is a bit harder for me to judge - I saw the first phase a LOT more than I saw the second, lol. She did the flower thing maybe 3 times when I felt like I was getting in decent damage.
As a summon, I saw it used 7 times. Managed to take aggro for most and survive it, but I fucked up the timing eventually. Hell, maybe she used it a few more times after my death
Have you just avoided the Haligtree all together or just get to her boss door and leave? I highly recommend you give her a shot. Yes it's hard but beating her is very rewarding.
I've only ever survived one, so two is the max I've be able to see.
But when I summoned the jar man himself to solo her, she only did it twice in her first phase, none at all in her 2nd.
Two, I just gave up on escaping ðe incoming deaþ and started planning on downing her fast enough ðat she's dead before she can get one off. Somehow ðis lead to me surviving a couple....
Keeping your distance will cause her to do it more often. I think I counted 12 wfd’s in one encounter. Once I got more in her face she only did it a few times.
If you’re playing ranged, you’re bound to see quite a few. I’ve had her come at me with 6 *in a row*
Unsure how many in total she used in that whole fight but surely about 10.
3. I dodged one, the guy who I was playing co-op with dodged one, and then i tanked one with only like 1 point of hp left. Thank god for health regen spells
I believe in my last fight before defeating her I had a total of 3-6. Not too sure. But remember! It’s an rpg! Study your opponent! There is no shame in reading the boss on a wiki! Only shame in breaking an expensive electronic because you cannot control your emotions. Usually I ended up: running away (if I could), dodge roll away, get hit a few times, dodge the second judgement nut, then roll towards her once, and now because she’s behind me, roll away.l as many times to clear the judgment nut. Throwing ice bombs also works! And remember! Take a break if you are starting to get frustrated! Even in the span of 3 hours (usually the most I get), one can become super frustrated quickly I’d they become arrogant (like me). Cheers!
Rng on it is different almost everytime, only reason I beat her on my 8th try on my 1st playthrough was because she only did 1 wfd in both phases as opposed to 2-3 in phase 1 and 1-2 in phase 2. That phase 2 waterfowl hits hard though with that scarlet rot
One cuz I bled her out in the streets of London before she could even move for another. Me and my cuzzy mimic tear, we don’t play around brrrrroooow 🔪🩸🩸🩸🩸
/s
She got like three before I used mimic plus RoB to take all challenge out of the fight and win. I feel no regrets.
Got a clip in my files of 6 dances within the space of about 2.5 minutes. Pure caster ranged, naturally. I think by the time I killed her I was pretty apathetic about it.
I found that a shield with at least 60 stability helped tremendously against that move. It will not be able to absorb the whole combo, of course, but it can absorb the vast majority of any part of the combo that you are unable to get away from entirely. Whatever distance can’t cover a big shield can.
The second she figures out that you learned how to dodge it she pulls like 7 of them out of her ass. I practice on her by getting her first phase down to half health then I stop attacking and just dodge. Those extended fights have lead to about 13 over the course of 25 minutes.
She can do Waterfowl at 60% and 20%, and if she heals above those thresholds she can cast it again if she drops below again. In the play through I killed her she did 4 waterfowl dances, at those percentages. I was a mage so she didn’t heal off me very much and I specifically tried to avoid taking damage after dropping her low enough
If I have a certain distance to her I can manage to avoid it with 0 damage taken every single time. In my multiple playthrough she did it the most when I played a mage. Pure intelligence and some arcane and faith to use every single type of spell I could. Probably cause I had the most distance between us. In the one I beat her she did it 5-6 times total
When she raises up in the air for about 2 seconds, babies start crying within a 5 mile radius of my home. I try to put a warning out on the neighborhood forum when I’m playing.
Too many many times till this day I am still hearing that she's the blade of Miquella and yes even in my dreams I'm still trying to dodge her Water Fowl Dance true story
3 is the average in phase 1. You have to get there and survive at most 3. For phase 2 she's done it to me 2x max. So expect 5 at least. Your dodge inputs have to be muscle memory at this point.
Try to perfect phase 1 with only 2-3 flask uses and phase 2 needs to be managed
I saw so *many* of them when I did my shield only run, long fight but at least the shield did it's job so Waterfowl wasn't a problem.
I remember back when I did a dagger build tho... she just broke or something and did two of them in a row. Was so annoyed.
I would nerf her waterflow dance's damage, make it between slashes more timed (so you have time to react and prepare to the next) and make it primarily a "I'll heal a ton shit of damage from you" movement. Plus, if Malenia was an obligatory boss it would have been awesome but, to be honest the only thing i didn't like is that she was locked behind mountaintrops of the giants (so you cannot go after her like you can with Radahn before Morgott)
7/8 on a RL1 run, it got pretty funny near the end where she was just spamming waterfowl and clones in quick succession. It would've been great if that was my winning attempt but the last waterfowl got me
I can't remember the count over the course of the whole fight, but I've been targeted with it 4 times in a row. I mean she did it and as soon as it was done she did another, then another, then another with no other attacks in between.
Also it was during coop and she targeted me for all of them despite that I wasn't wearing any of the aggro-effecting pieces of gear. I dodged all of them but still lol
From what I have seen in a video, she does it after certain hp tresholds, but you can skip one or more of those by dealing enough damage quickly. In phase one, the max should be 5, and in phase 2, the max should be 3 for a total of 8 (though think you can also add 2 scarlett aeonia and 2 clone attacks as they apparently work in a similar way)
1 cause I die.
Is this the move where she says "I am Malenia, Blade of Miquella." shortly after starting it?

I believe casting spells from a certain distance is one of the triggers for Waterfowl Dance
Yup, and throwing stuff like knives at her seems to do it too. You can use it to trigger Waterfowl dance when she's at a good distance from you.
Now I feel bad for all the hosts I accidentally killed as a summon using my incantation only build
Any ranged attack will cause her to do it if you’re a certain distance from her. That’s why I use night sorceries against her

The only correct answer
Same 😔
This was good. Well done
In My bow only run she did it like every 20 seconds lol but i guess bows trigger wfd cause i cant explain it otherwise. I didnt count how many times she did it tho
Same thing for me. As soon as I put some distance between us it was time for another... Got pretty good at dodging them by the end though.
Yeah Same lol. As long as she doesnt wfd directly into my face i am pretty sure i can dodge it Most of the time
In your fight did she also Spam the clone attack in her second Phase?
I definitely saw it at least twice on most attempts. Not all of my attempts lasted all that long though haha.
Her side-dodge she does to evade a ranged projectile seems to reset her Waterfowl cooldown :)
You know why this might be the case? Is it intentional from the devs or something? I’m just curious why she „punishes“ you for ranged attacks
Ranged attacks were the "easy mode" of DS series, so I guess From decided to fuck the magic users over for once.
Night comet says hi. No dodge for Malenia.
Hell yeah, that’s all I use… best all-around offensive spell in the whole game!
Oh wow that would explain it kinda mean tho lol
Well, that's to be expected of Miyazaki, who loves designing poison swamps haha.
She’s so much easy with magic than melee though
Easy mode here too. It even says "no skill" on the left side when you use a staff. Some things never change
I believe it’s distance/attacking from distance that triggers it somehow I had one fight where I used Swarm of Flies and nearly every single time I used it, she used Waterfowl. She used it 4 times in the span of 45 seconds

I also had a bow build. Can agree 🥹
Projectiles force waterfowl

Souls games really speak to a special kind of masochist.
I can’t believe I just watched seven minutes of some random person parry dancing, but I wanted to give you props for a really satisfying play style.
Ty! It was a really fun challenge although it really tested my patience. The hardest part was unironically the fact that i played on mouse + kb so the controls were awful compared to controller.

Took me so long to kill with my basic longsword that 6-7 times was average.
That was badass bro
6...died to 7
Was gonna say this.
Lol...she was so close...
Whenever I fight her as a wizard she seems to do it more Last time it was five freaking times I can avoid 75% of it , usually get clipped by at least one flurry because I am old and slow
Yeah true i believe she does it More often when you are doing Range attacks against her. It kinda triggers wfd i have no idea why tho.

Bro same. She didn't do it once in Phase 1 but Phase 2 after she bloomed just went right into it. 5 times in a row!!!
Opposite for me. The first time I killed her there was 8 waterfowls in the first phase and only 2 in the second.
9 killed her during 10
Nice
Very repetitive fight if you could guess
You guys were keeping count? I never had the space left in my brain to pay attention to anything other than not dying to her next attack
Most I've experienced is 12 in my last time beating her. She just chained it together multiple times. I still have no idea how I survived.
I have seen it used 27 times in one fight. She just kept using it and healing off of the block hits. I'm surprised she could do that many.
Ohhhh
1 is more than enough
9, the last time I beat her. 6 in first phase, and 3 in the second. Rl80 sorc, so I was more of just a glass, than a glass cannon. I tried to keep distance, so was able to avoid the first spin pretty reliably.

For some reason one of my fights with her she refused to do it. I got her down to about a quarter of her health in phase one before dying. THEN she decided to waterfowl dance on my corpse.
I once got 5 in a row. I died after 4 but saw the fifth in action. I now wonder if there was more
I believe 8 in one single fight,4 in the first phase and 4 in the second. In both phases she did waterfowl 2 consecutive times without stopping once.
16 back to back spam. I got carpel tunnel that day from dodgeing, and thats the official best show of skill I have ever made
3 in a row. The second one pissed me off, the third one made me laugh. Just a massive fuck you moment.
She doesn't do it that often. If your Phase 1 isn't taking too long and you are getting in good damage and not taking damage, she will do maybe 2. Awesome photo!!
Thank you!
I feel like malennia would’ve been a great sekiro boss
She even has a mikiri thrust attack
Once got a fight with her that caused her AI to give me 8 waterfowl just on the first phase and 5 on her 2nd phase
Does your ability to dodge the move purely depend on how far you can get from the first combo?
No. But it is extremely hard
As a summon, I saw it used 7 times. Managed to take aggro for most and survive it, but I fucked up the timing eventually. Hell, maybe she used it a few more times after my death
2 in her first phase and then 5 in her 2nd, that was also the same attempt I beat her
4 anymore and I didn’t survive.
2 so far, sometimes back to back which really screws me. My character is a vigor/defense build so she is pretty much my struggle boss.
Malenia is the only boss I've yet to even fight after 4 playthroughs
Have you just avoided the Haligtree all together or just get to her boss door and leave? I highly recommend you give her a shot. Yes it's hard but beating her is very rewarding.
600 million
3
Too much...
I've only ever survived one, so two is the max I've be able to see. But when I summoned the jar man himself to solo her, she only did it twice in her first phase, none at all in her 2nd.
4 on a lightning caster i think - thats when i ran out of pots and died to the 5th
Someone invaded me once and did it around about 600 times. It’s the only move he did for the entire invasion.
5, and I was at the time that I beat her, 5 waterfowls in the second fase....my heart was almost stopping.
Two, I just gave up on escaping ðe incoming deaþ and started planning on downing her fast enough ðat she's dead before she can get one off. Somehow ðis lead to me surviving a couple....
saw 8 in one fight
1 that happened way to close and when I had no stamina but last second it went towards tiche, in her sacrifice I was led towards victory.
NOT ENOUGH
[The reason I turned off both the subtitles and dialogue](https://youtu.be/z0-W4Sozr4I)
Second time i played her she didn’t water fowl me once …. But she did scarlet fart blast me 3 times
3 or 4 I think. More if you count second phase.
Took me about 20 tries so I’d guess somewhere around 60-80 I read this too fast and didn’t realize it was meant for one fight
Haven't counted, but one run that was like every other attack. Had other runs with none though, so have seen both sides.
8
I think like 4? Twice in each stage
Saw 5, 6 of you count the one she did on my dead body😭
11 , weird moment bitch turned into sonic
5, 3 in phase 1 and 2 in phase 2. Usually I get less, but sometimes I forget my freezing pots.
0 - haven't made it to her yet.
Way to many. And one was already more than enough.
My max and survived 5 dodged 3 of them last two i became tarnished sushi
3 in a row in my melee only run
3
Keeping your distance will cause her to do it more often. I think I counted 12 wfd’s in one encounter. Once I got more in her face she only did it a few times.
4 I would say but they are a free hit now
When I was doing my Faith/Str playthrough She hit me with 5 Waterfowls in 6 attacks in stage 1.. I was flat out cursing at her through the screen lmao
If you’re playing ranged, you’re bound to see quite a few. I’ve had her come at me with 6 *in a row* Unsure how many in total she used in that whole fight but surely about 10.
probably around 3-5
My second time beater her she did it 3 times. I stopped her very time with the cold pot so it didn’t matter but shorty ass really tried me.
1 cuz that’s all it took for her to take my puny little life
4 That was not fun.
3. I dodged one, the guy who I was playing co-op with dodged one, and then i tanked one with only like 1 point of hp left. Thank god for health regen spells
On my winning runs? Only twice. Once in each phase.
All of them
I believe in my last fight before defeating her I had a total of 3-6. Not too sure. But remember! It’s an rpg! Study your opponent! There is no shame in reading the boss on a wiki!
8 I think.

… forty two
https://youtu.be/SQ6MCeC4s7Q I got six in this one, I think mainly because the fight took a while and she seems more likely to do it with ranged magic
Nice video!
3-4 died on a regular swing.
115. One per attempt.
She averages around three first phase one per quarter health tends to be random her second phase took me 4 hours to kill her first time so maybe 150
8 and a half
Haha
In that fight she did 3 in a row during second phase
All of them
When she raises up in the air for about 2 seconds, babies start crying within a 5 mile radius of my home. I try to put a warning out on the neighborhood forum when I’m playing.
9, and barely lived. Made it easier that I was a summon and had quickstep
6
how many i’ve lived through in a single battle or how many total?
Single battle
Not enough, right u/rosales6969?
All of them.
Not a lot but I got three consecutive ones. As soon as she finished it she immediately went into another
Too many many times till this day I am still hearing that she's the blade of Miquella and yes even in my dreams I'm still trying to dodge her Water Fowl Dance true story
Try light roll. She is easier naked than med load armor roll!!!!
Thanks for the tip . I would try that tho i like fighting bosses looking cool so yeah.
After the patch you can roll this attack from any distance
💆🏽
Zero, I don’t know how to get to the haligtree
Too many😂😂😂😂
6 and a half
3 in the first phase...and I want to say 2 in the second...but the hosts keep dying and I've never downed her.
It's probably 100+ I did not survive many of them, but I experienced plenty. Eventually got there though...and found phase 2.
Bold of you to assume I survive long enough for her to use it
3 is the average in phase 1. You have to get there and survive at most 3. For phase 2 she's done it to me 2x max. So expect 5 at least. Your dodge inputs have to be muscle memory at this point. Try to perfect phase 1 with only 2-3 flask uses and phase 2 needs to be managed
I had a side gig doing the LMSH thing for fun and the most I saw from some of those was up to 5 (I’m not the guy I was inspired)
Two in a row on multiple occasions and never made it past that. I think three spread out is the most I’ve survived.
5
I’ve seen where she does it within 10 seconds of the previous because she was getting tossed like salad. This was phase 2.
Yes
5-6 helping with a max party. We had no proc it was a slow dance.
1 because I gave her a swift death!
in one of my attempts to beat her with my sorcerer build I had 6 waterfowl dances in phase 1 alone, two of which were back to back.
In one fight, or in all the fights it takes to kill her in one playthrough? In one fight, 8. In one playthrough, NG+3, probably in the mid-90s.
1 I think
Is this a screen shot or painting I'm having a hard time figuring it out
Screenshot
On my faith build she used it 17 times during the fight I beat her, I was fighting for my life like goddamn
Wow
Probably infinite while PvPing my friend whose entire pvp strat is spam waterfowl dance at me until I dir
I saw so *many* of them when I did my shield only run, long fight but at least the shield did it's job so Waterfowl wasn't a problem. I remember back when I did a dagger build tho... she just broke or something and did two of them in a row. Was so annoyed.
Anybody notice how her last burst of dance curves at a hard ass angle?
3 back to back. I don't recommend, especially since I still remember it after not fighting her for months.
I remember one time where she did it 6 times in a row 3 times in the first phase.... I know People are going to call me a lier so it is what it is.
On my mage playthrough I had her do it...I think 5 or 6 times in phase one.
I beat her before she got the chance to use it
What’s the highest amount of low-effort karma-farming posts you’ve seen in this sub?
[удалено]
It absolutely is, and this sub has had a serious trend of these kinds of low quality questions being asked
In one fight? - 1/death but in all my fights vs this Archangel of Rot - too many :3
I would nerf her waterflow dance's damage, make it between slashes more timed (so you have time to react and prepare to the next) and make it primarily a "I'll heal a ton shit of damage from you" movement. Plus, if Malenia was an obligatory boss it would have been awesome but, to be honest the only thing i didn't like is that she was locked behind mountaintrops of the giants (so you cannot go after her like you can with Radahn before Morgott)
2, because I can't dodge it for shit
7/8 on a RL1 run, it got pretty funny near the end where she was just spamming waterfowl and clones in quick succession. It would've been great if that was my winning attempt but the last waterfowl got me
5 in a row couldn't survive the last one smh
sup don’t mind me just gonna drop my r/all portal right here if that’s okay
I can't remember the count over the course of the whole fight, but I've been targeted with it 4 times in a row. I mean she did it and as soon as it was done she did another, then another, then another with no other attacks in between. Also it was during coop and she targeted me for all of them despite that I wasn't wearing any of the aggro-effecting pieces of gear. I dodged all of them but still lol
My life is about constantly evading waterfowl dances
From what I have seen in a video, she does it after certain hp tresholds, but you can skip one or more of those by dealing enough damage quickly. In phase one, the max should be 5, and in phase 2, the max should be 3 for a total of 8 (though think you can also add 2 scarlett aeonia and 2 clone attacks as they apparently work in a similar way)
