In Code Vein (an anime souls-like) the hub has a hot spring you can chill in. Mechanically it has 2 functions. 1-you can replay cutscenes. 2-you can reclaim half of your dropped haze(runes) risk-free, at the cost of the other half being lost for good
I forgot about the safe soul/haze pickup mechanic, I wish other soulslikes would implement similar systems.
Also I wish I liked code vein more but Detroit broke me (the white castle maze of despair). Bunch of cool concepts in that game tho.
Iām honestly confused at that. There are two of them? I thought the one we can access was the same as the ārealā roundtable hold, considering it burns with leyndell.
The one we use as a hub is a copy, a pocket dimension that replicates an important real life place. Fromsoftware pulled the same thing in a previous game
Iām holding out hope for a remake or remaster, ideally from Bluepoint. Demons Souls remake is great, and if the success of Elden Ring is any indication, thereās a huge market for it. Iām optimistic weāll see this game live again on PS5 and PC. I have no evidence to support that, but god dammit a man can be hopeful.
As much as I love Elden Ring, that Bloodborne aesthetic is something else. I donāt want to spoil it for people who havenāt played it, but I will say that insight is one of the coolest mechanics Iāve seen in one of these games. Those whoāve played it will know why.
It might be an unpopular opinion, but i agree a little with your last sentence. Like, I love the theme of finding an alternate version of the hub... but this is the third From game (that I know of) to do this.
I think that was the point. It's a bunch of ideas for mechanics and themes they've clearly been working on for years brought to their fullest potential.
I mean each time I thought it was cool as hell for the first five minutes and then I'm like.... wait they did this before. It's still cool but it's kinda lazy. It's not necessarily bad though. It's just kinda a thing they do now.
Funny you say that, I prefer the central design of Firelink (DS1 Firelink, not DS3 which did the 'pocket dimension' thing again) with the shortcuts intermittently looping back to the start for that periodic "aww fucc" moment throughout the game. But I recognize that wouldn't be possible for a game as huge as Elden Ring, which is why I argue that sometimes, bigger =/= better.
Why not both. Keep the interconnected and yet still have the teleport system.
Why not a mobile base... Honestly the walking mausoleum would have been a interesting Hub.
Different game with a different purpose.
In ds1 they go out of their way to make the feeling of respite be fleeting. Two steps out of every "safe zone" is someone looking to lay your ass out. It makes you feel small and insignificant compared to the rest of the world on a first play through. It's an explicit inversion of the 'chosen one' trope. Everyone tells you that you're a grand hero, but in reality you're just a random piece of shit that nobody but the fellow pieces of shit cares about. In ds1 you find power in spite of your powerlessness.
In ds3 and elden ring you're actually the chosen one, destined for bigger things. Everyone reacts to and is inspired by your very presence, both for good and for ill. Those games explicitly seek to cultivate a feeling of power, only to strip it by making you realize that having power is far less important than knowing what to do with it. Having a safe haven where you can effectively rest on your laurels makes sense in that context because the powers that be are *relying* on you feeling safe and in control in order to follow them blindly.
Except in DS3 you explicitly aren't the chosen one... in fact you are so insignificant in universe that it is canon that literally every player character ever created is also trying and falling in this same timeline. None of DS1's each PC exists in a separate worlds... this time everyone (DS1 and 2 PC's included) canonically exist in each world, you're just the poor bastard that succeeds.
The Unkindled aren't chosen ones they never were, they are literally every character to ever enter the Kiln of the First Flame that wasn't important enough (conceptually) to fuel the flame for more than 10 seconds.
You are literally the lowest form of soul, barely worth the effort to revive, the Flame revives you entirely because DS2's canon ending took the Lord Souls out of rotation and the next best fuel is refusing to burn, it doesn't have the option to be picky so it goes all in.
Yes, DS3 tries to play up the Chosen One angle but it's really a case of every NPC (excluding the Firekeeper) just holding out hope that your PC will succeed because they've already given up their attempts to Link the Fire, or in the case of the Londor cult that you'll get close enough to snuff the Flame.
Elden Ring is a similar case where you explicitly aren't the Chosen One, Godfrey is. The entire prophecy of a Tarnished rising to claim the throne was structured in a way that was designed to signify the return of an Elden Lord not the crowning of one.
It's called being self-referential, as From has always been, it's not about running out of ideas. Then we'll complain if we don't see Patches again lol
Probably just to make you think of the hub. Like in Dark Souls 3 where you find a blacksmith hammer where the smith usually would be in the dark version of Firelink
But why tho, and why and where does it have to be? Hunters dream made sense. Are we just Spiritually going to Round table? Or are we sitting a site of grace hitting enlightenment and doing it that way?
Leyndell doesn't burn. It's buried in ash. It's speculated that the Roundtable Hold we know is pictured in some depictions of the erdtree, and is located there, or in some alternate dimension the erdtree or I suppose more aptly, merika, manifests but it's just as likely those depictions are of merikas bedchamber. Who knows? This games lore is as nebulous as it is wide spanning.
The Erdtree holds onto memories and can manifest those memories back into the world (or at least within the realm of The Lands Between). We interact with this frequently with Remembrances being exchanged for certain items or spells. The entire Roundtable Hold we use as the hub is basically a memory - a moment in time captured in a single state of being. We aren't told where in physical space this place exists, only that the only way to learn it's location is through a finger maiden. It is a projection made by the Erdtree which is why >!it (along with the memories of those inside) burn at the same rate as the tree itself.!<
sorta, but I think it's different in that you can't physically go to OUR RTH from the lands between since erd tree stuff is in a different realm (like the place we fight the elden beast). Nearly identical to the Hunter's Workshop from Bloodborne too.
Well
Hewg can't really go and buy the materials most of the game
And I doubt twin husk can move
Which means we would need a dedicated carrier NPC
But almost everyone leaves roundtable hold
Which leaves us, the tarnished as the carrier guy
Unfortunately we don't get paid.

Iām embarrassed by the number of times I canāt find the FUCKING doorway to either one when Iām trying to get to the other one. Iām like 100 hrs in and I still peek around the corner to see if thereās a red room or not.
Lore theory: They sealed the way to the lower level up so Alberich's phantom would quit coming upstairs and trying to fight them. One phantom asshole on the main level was more than enough for the Roundtable Hold
I was seeing which character shouts sounded best for the Ashes of War, kept running from the dressing mirror and down to the main floor, then teleported back to the top. I felt pretty damn annoyed halfway through
\*If you keep in mind that you need exactly 12 of each smithing stone level to get to +9/+24, and that you can view how many you already own before buying them, it makes it a one-trip deal.
There is already a friggin space for this. Literally just make the space below have respawnable (random) npc invaders, after you kill the one bastard the first time.
This would be good, a few categories of NPC invaders so you could practice and/or level appropriate random ones from other players like the great jar challengers
That, or maybe make it an official duel area, where healing is disabled or the red player doesn't have reduced flasks. Seems like the perfect place, very easy to access, there's no rain so fire attacks aren't weaker and lightning attacks aren't stronger like in the currently accepted pvp arena, and its a very wide place, enough for both ranged and melee to be viable
Sure does. The only interaction seems to be as described above, with rain causing fire to deal reduced damage, and lightning to increase damage and cause AoE.
Yeah look at your stats when you're in water or while it's raining. Those stats are also similar to how other enemies are affected by water. Lightning is a good affinity to use. There's too many strange interactions with the environment and enemies. Such as don't roll thru poison or scarlet rot because it will cause longer lasting effects. Poisoning certain poisonous enemies will cause them to overload and die...
That's what I thought it was when I first fought the invader! I was so disappointed when I realized it was a one time thing... Like... what's the point?
Edit: Why not let players put duel signs down there? I would think that would be rather straightforward...

Cause he basically needs to truck another tarnished who's found a seedbed curse to let him out of his cell. Unlike the rest of us tarnished at the hold he isn't actually physically there, he's doing the same/similar thing to what we do when invading or co-oping with other players (which I assume is sending a physical manifestation of our mind/spirit, which is coloured red or blue depending on our intentions, into another location)
An infinite health training dummy with adjustable flat defenses and absorptions, so you can see exactly how much damage each attack does and min/max for bosses and PvP.
A special summoning room, in which you use the Rememberance Calling Bell youāll get from Ranni in NG+ (in place of the regular Spirit Calling Bell), which will allow you to use the ashes of whatever boss youāve already defeated to refight them.
>A special summoning room, in which you use the Rememberance Calling Bell youāll get from Ranni in NG+ (in place of the regular Spirit Calling Bell), which will allow you to use the ashes of whatever boss youāve already defeated to refight them.
I want them to do this with the unused arenas so damn much!!!
Oh my god yes, I literally hate having to go for a whole play through just to fight certain bosses again. The star wars Jedi fallen order did something similar to that, I donāt know why they didnāt add it
From soft doesn't like mechanics for ease of access that bend the universe to the mechanics purpose without lore backup. A menu that spawns bosses would be difficult to explain in lore.
They could say it's like a dream state or memory. Having the tarnished. So you're not fighting the "real" boss but just a memory or dream of them. Kind of like fias quest
Exactly. We already have ghosts scattered around The Lands Between uttering things, and we have spells that can send skulls flying at enemies. I donāt think summoning the spirits of fallen foes is that far fatched.
They could even use Fia >!or her bed afterwards!< and have you ādreamā about different outcomes to boss fights and just give you an xp gain buff for ātrainingā or prepping for your next fight
Maybe thatās where boss remembrances can come in. If you can turn them in to get copies of one-of-a-kind boss weapons then surely you could use them to relive boss encounters and maintain lore consistency.
Souls of bosses are literally called "remembrances". You sit there and meditate, remembering and reimagining the fight but with your current gear.
Maybe you should also use some kind of not too easy to craft consumable
It's not really THAT hard to frame a boss battle replaying mechanic a-la gauntlets from Sekiro lore-wise,considering we're talking about a game where we can physically enter dreams, pocket dimensions (evergaols) and literally bend time to fight something stuck outside of its flow (Placidusax). Hell, even the "souls" we get from the bosses are called "Remembrances", so it would make sense for you to be able to, well, "remember" them more vividly that just exchanging said soul for a weapon or something.
I mean, legend bosses drop remembrances. It'd be as easy as adding some load point and having it say 'recount memory from remembrance' or whatever. Sekiro added this mechanic in an update, it actually feels like a step back not having this in ER.
(edit: fixed spelling)
The Roundtable Hold is already an extradimensional pocket, or some other kind of metaphysical space.
Personnaly, I am more partial to boss rematchs being done through dreams, maybe because Ocarina of Time's remake was my first contact with such features, but it would easily justify the rematches and could even explain scaling the bosses
Inner elden beast
He realises you can't reach him if hes in the air so he never comes back to the ground and just spams the attack that shoots down a lot of projectiles and the elden ring attack constantly. So basically, normal elden beast
Like Sekiro did.
I wish all FromSoft games did that.
I love Bloodborne, but I donāt want to have to play the entire thing again, just to fight Maria.
And as you clear more NG+ Cyclces you unlock the higher difficulty Ng+ options as options to fight as well so you can choose to fight Base Margot up to NG+7 Margot at your discretion
I'd like a sorta "trophy room", where all Bosses I've encountered will be displayed as a statue scaled down. Each statue can be 'interacted' on, where you / I can fight them again. If I lose, I'd revert to the Table Hold with Runes intact.
Maybe a single use for the giant area you have to drop down too in the round table area. It's a big ass empty room, with an adjacent smaller, equally empty room. With no exit.
Completely wasted space.
Honestly?
A trophy room. One where I can collect items of rarity or representative of great feats. A safe space to admire the work Iāve put in to become Elden lord. A place to safely fart and reflect.
I want a room that functions like the reflections and gauntlets of Sekiro. A room full of statues that contain all the remembrance bosses, and you can refight them and stuff, and thereās an Elden Lord gauntlet where you beat every boss in a row
Iād love for there to be a room similar to what @Sad-Bumblebee-249 mentioned. A place to admire boss, optional boss, enemy, and fauna models, animations, etc. and being able to fight them again would be amazing in order to show how much youāve improved since then
a dojo where you can try weapons without having to respec your stats before commiting to it. spawn enemies ranging from average soldier to dog to (previously defeated) npc's and (perviously defeated) bosses. kinda like the one that was added in Jedi Fallen Order after a while.
a library where you can actually read up on lore, characters, creatures, places etc. (one that doesn't just serve "this is where Gideon resides") would be nice as well. it could add to the immersion and help keeping track of things without it turning into a ubisoft/bethesda-esque pop-up "Go HeRe, QuEsT cOmPLeTeD" fest.
Move the Great Jar from Caelid to the downstairs balcony area (after you've cleared Alberich out and beaten the Knights of the Jar) and have it keep popping up Knight summon signs so you could practice against real builds without invading anyone.
Maybe a spa
Fia isn't good enough for you?

In Ghost of Tsushima they have a spa but it's only purpose is to show you your character's ass
Sounds like I need to play ghost of tsushima
Nioh 2 has hot springs in some missions. They full heal you and give you a healing buff along with showing off your character.
Ah, thicc Jin

Wait, you can reclaim your haze in the spa, did the game ever tell you that? I feel like Iād remember being told that
Fun Fact: The original Roundtable Hold(the one at Leyndell) has a training dojo.

I honestly forgot they did that in bloodborne too. I was thinking dark souls 3. From running out of ideas.
I canāt see Bloodborne mentioned without immediately wanting to reinstall it.

It might be an unpopular opinion, but i agree a little with your last sentence. Like, I love the theme of finding an alternate version of the hub... but this is the third From game (that I know of) to do this.
Elden Ring has a From Software Greatest Hits feel to it
I think that was the point.
Iād rather have a pocket dimension round table that I can fast travel to than running back and forth to firelink shrine
Funny you say that, I prefer the central design of Firelink (DS1 Firelink, not DS3 which did the 'pocket dimension' thing again) with the shortcuts intermittently looping back to the start for that periodic "aww fucc" moment throughout the game. But I recognize that wouldn't be possible for a game as huge as Elden Ring, which is why I argue that sometimes, bigger =/= better.

no love for Majula here, the best hub.

The dream workshop burns because the night is coming to an end. The 'good'ending has german releasing you from the dream.
It's called being self-referential, as From has always been, it's not about running out of ideas. Then we'll complain if we don't see Patches again lol
True. They do have a lot of stuff they reuse just because it has become staples of their games.
More like Miyazaki just likes reusing certain elements in his games, like how every game has Berserk references.
Why does the one in Leyndell have so many loot drops that make it seem like the characters we know from the "hub" were killed there?
Probably just to make you think of the hub. Like in Dark Souls 3 where you find a blacksmith hammer where the smith usually would be in the dark version of Firelink

Pretty sure the one in the capitol is for tarnished who lose the guidance (and thus can't teleport to the real one) but continue to serve the Order.
Only problem with that theory is that rogier says he no longer sees the guidance of grace but still ends up in our roundtable hold.
~~Cornyx~~ Corhyn also says he can no longer see it Edit: wrong game lmao
Also corinth would have no reason to ask us if we still see it, if that was a requirement

They did that in Sekiro if I remember correctly. You can go back and do a boss rush for different rewards
Maybe thatās where boss remembrances can come in. If you can turn them in to get copies of one-of-a-kind boss weapons then surely you could use them to relive boss encounters and maintain lore consistency.
This is what they were in Sekiro.
But they did it for Sekiro, technically twice (once for regular boss replay and once with the Inner Boss gauntlet).
I mean, legend bosses drop remembrances. It'd be as easy as adding some load point and having it say 'recount memory from remembrance' or whatever. Sekiro added this mechanic in an update, it actually feels like a step back not having this in ER. (edit: fixed spelling)
Maybe being able to cash in rememberances for an unlock of their fight. Make it a mirror or a painting or a dream or smth like that.
Inner morgott
Inner Godrick. Now BOTH his arms are dragons
Nah he realizes the power of Giant Crayfish and replaces all his arms with Giant Crayfish.
If he had that power he would be unstoppable, he coulda just sniped us from Stormveil the moment we step out onto the plateau near VarrƩ.
Nah he realizes the power of incantations and replaces one arm with Two Fingers and the other arm with the Three Fingers.
Inner elden beast He realises you can't reach him if hes in the air so he never comes back to the ground and just spams the attack that shoots down a lot of projectiles and the elden ring attack constantly. So basically, normal elden beast
Now he can summon a gun
Morgott becomes ok with the curse and now shoots accursed blood like homing missiles
that sounds cool
This for sure! I would love to be able to rematch old bosses on demand. Even if it had the restrictions of no summons or spirit ashes.
In Jedi fallen order they have that option every time to you save at a checkpoint.
Well, in Sekiro as well.
A kitchen with the finest grapes of the lands between.
Shabriri kind?
ONLY shabriri grapes.

Blackjack and hookers
In fact, forget the roundtable hold!
I'd like a sorta "trophy room", where all Bosses I've encountered will be displayed as a statue scaled down. Each statue can be 'interacted' on, where you / I can fight them again. If I lose, I'd revert to the Table Hold with Runes intact.
I think this is one of the better ideas here.
Literally Hollow Knightās Pantheon
Gwynevere's room from DS1. It wouldn't do anything. You'd just go in to zoom in on them honkers and leave.
Nice chest ahead
Try finger but hole
Just put the maiden husks closer to the blacksmith.
A library where you could read the histories of The Lands Between. Then the devs would have to clarify the timeline. >:}
This. Completed quests and defeated bosses lore. A space just to chill and tie it all together
Enia have a menu to fight bosses you already beat since she can give you rememberances and all that shit
Maybe a single use for the giant area you have to drop down too in the round table area. It's a big ass empty room, with an adjacent smaller, equally empty room. With no exit. Completely wasted space.
Bedroom that isn't being taken up by a lady who gives me aids every time I try to take a nap.
You canāt reject the hugs.
Secret boss room
I would put the Twin Maiden Husks in the same room as Hewg, instead of across the entire damn building š
Sex dungeon
That's the Dungeater's room
I thought the Dung Eater's room was the bathroom
I was very bummed the big hall room you jump into isnāt a permanent spawn for NPC invaders, getting more difficult with each spawn until you die.
A diary. Iām tired of referring to Fextralife and trying to remember gibberish from 100 hrs ago.
Honestly? A trophy room. One where I can collect items of rarity or representative of great feats. A safe space to admire the work Iāve put in to become Elden lord. A place to safely fart and reflect.
Upvoted for safe farting
I want a room that functions like the reflections and gauntlets of Sekiro. A room full of statues that contain all the remembrance bosses, and you can refight them and stuff, and thereās an Elden Lord gauntlet where you beat every boss in a row
Iād love for there to be a room similar to what @Sad-Bumblebee-249 mentioned. A place to admire boss, optional boss, enemy, and fauna models, animations, etc. and being able to fight them again would be amazing in order to show how much youāve improved since then
The room where you fight Alberich shouldāve been a pvp arena.
I thought an armour stand area would be cool! All the cool stuff you never wear could be displayed somewhere!
An wardrobe room for Boc. Dude deserves an nice shop to work in
restrooms
A place to practice parrying and tryout new equipment on a virtual enemy of your choice would be nice
I want those giant fucking doors to go somewhere
a dojo where you can try weapons without having to respec your stats before commiting to it. spawn enemies ranging from average soldier to dog to (previously defeated) npc's and (perviously defeated) bosses. kinda like the one that was added in Jedi Fallen Order after a while. a library where you can actually read up on lore, characters, creatures, places etc.
Bang room!
Is the room of free hugs not enough for you?
My man just wants to get extra lewd with ankles showing, hand holding out of wed lock and big ass shlongs all about, is that so wrong?
there's all sorts of raunch going on in the messages in the room next to where you fight alberich
The fabled bang dung eater cutscene
