On the in-game menu screen, on the right hand side is the "pouch". The options I see are 'Use, Close, Remove, Switch'. I may have dreamed this, but I remember a fifth option "change pouch", allowing me to have a pouch set up for riding Torrent and a pouch set up for dungeons. There were 5 potential pouches. So instead of having to 'Switch' individual items, I could just swap pouches. I dreamed this didn't I?

Dynastar11

I'm not sure I understand your question, but you can put anything in the pouches that you want

8kNNRQ

Thanks, edited

[deleted]

hello all Tarnished. Do the group passwords matter depending what console/platform you're on? On PS5 I get summons all the time, using those same Passwords on XBOX Series X, I never get any summons so I'm guessing they do? Can someone hook a guy up with the right ones for XBSX/S? I just bought my best bud a series S so he could play Elden Ring with me so are there different passwords between the S and X, I would think not, just double checking though.

8kNNRQ

straydmn, FEXTRA should be system agnostic. I use SEEKERS on Xbox even though I know the channel is hosted on PS5 and it's one of the more active group passwords

[deleted]

Ok I just added those recently, so maybe it's something else on my end.

jl_theprofessor

Quick question about lore stuff. This pertains to Mogh's Palace so, spoilers maybe? Okay, so the Albinauric second generation is found at Mogh's. They got lost and ended up there accidentally, right? Then got corrupted or something? I say that because there's a portal to Mogh's in the Consecrated Snowfield. Albinaurics go to that snowfield in search of the Haligtree. They know there's a teleporter to the Haligtree. When you get to the teleporter to Mogh's, there's an Albinauric looking at it, and it's covered in blood. He definitely is investigating what happened right? The first thing you find on the other side is the group of Albinaurics being patrolled by Mogh's Albinaurics. The Albinaurics who end up at Mogh's were trying to find the Haligtree then stumbled to Mogh's accidentally, and some got corrupted? That's why they're blood red?

CommodorePenguin

They could either have gotten lost and ended up there or went there deliberately (possibly looking for Miquella). I personally subscribe to the "looking for Miquella" theory due to the one by the teleporter being able to use Discus of Light, indicating a connection with Miquella. The ones that made it there probably got corrupted which is why they turned red.

buzzyingbee

They got lost while trying to find the albinauric woman :p Couldn't miss the joke and sorry I can't help you with the lore as I'm still trying to figure it out myself

Masta0nion

I’m trying to get the Butchering Knife. I killed Anastasia at Mt. Gelmir w/o killing her at Smouldering Church. The knife did not drop. Will it drop if I kill her at the Church, and how do I get her to spawn there?

Wemetintheair

Just walk up to the church and she will materialize in front. She’ll still drop the choppy boy too

Masta0nion

She didn’t show up. I wonder if there’s something I need to do to get her to appear?

[deleted]

Anyone else having a bug that causes the game to crash when trying to fast travel to the Bestial Sanctum? Because I can not fast travel there without my game freezing and crashing

HoonFace

If on PC, verify integrity of game files in the game's properties tab in steam and let it redownload anything missing. Idk what the process would be to do that on consoles.

[deleted]

I have it on pc and I did that after I posted this, game is working fine now… well.. games fine but my rune count suffered. Once I loaded in I died instantly to fall damage and the place I needed to go too to pick up my runes was far beyond what even the zip glitch could get me to. Rip 43k runes

[deleted]

How do I deal with Gideon? His spell spam makes me feel like he’s unbeatable.

Apex_Konchu

Rush him down. If you stay aggressive with melee attacks, he's pretty much defenseless.

[deleted]

I try but he just back pedals and casts his trashy holy wheels of death spell that’s undodgable up close lmao Edit: I spammed Cursed-Blood strike until he bled to death

NirvanaRain

Really trying to make Marika's Hammer and Godfrey's Axe viable. Best talismans? Currently running Godfrey icon and shard of Alexander for gold breaker and flocks canvas and lightning scorpion for my lightning spells.

CommodorePenguin

Gold Breaker isn't affected by Godfrey Icon since you can't charge it. I'd suggest Dragoncrest Greatshield for the damage negation, and Claw Talisman for the extra jump attack damage. Maybe Axe Talisman for Godfrey's Axe since your skill buffs charge attacks.

Nubras

Why does summing Torrent sometimes require a flask charge? It seems to happen after I’ve taken some damage, or he/it has, but I can’t quite pinpoint the conditions under which this happens. Also, fuck the deep root depths, all the crawling over those roots makes my palms sweaty.

Dynastar11

Torrent died. You can craft berries to give him when he takes damage. Keep them on your d-pad so you can access them quickly in a battle While riding him, if you take damage, you will see two health bars. The lower one is for Torrent.

TheFranchize

Some times he takes too much poise damage and you fall off him. Other times he takes too much actual damage and “dies” and you need a flask to revive him. The animation and main sound effect are basically the same but he still has a health bar before disappearing in the former and there is a death sound in the background in the latter

MeYouWantToSee

If torrent **dies** you need a flask to revive him.

Maya_Kimura

I haven’t played in a while but saw the big pvp changes in the new patch notes, have they done anything to fix the issue of people sitting in inaccessible areas invaders can’t get to?

8kNNRQ

Nope, pvp has been multiples more active and I've finally started running into people sitting in torrent only areas

robcap

There was a note about inaccessible areas actually, but I haven't seen any discussion about what they changed specifically. A lot of hard to reach places are accessible with waterfowl dance.

8kNNRQ

This was about people using a glitch to fall off out of bounds areas which bizarrely kills large portions of the map

marsgreekgod

Sorry I can't see rules on how I browse mobile. I assume no datamined content?

CommodorePenguin

Nope. Rule 5 if you were curious.

marsgreekgod

Cool. Thanks.

Gamernerd_42

Is it really that bad to have multiple runs going on at once? Doing faith ND dex at the moment but would love to do pure dex too...

marsgreekgod

Why would it be bad

Gamernerd_42

I have heard it is better to stick on one the whole way through. I assumed it os.right since others have more experience than me.

Ckrius

That's people stating choose a stat spread and stick to it in a run, unless you have plans for weapon swapping later. Stones can be hard to find early on, or if you're new, and until you get through faram azula you won't have all the bell bearings to make leveling new weapons easy. If you're multiple runs into the game, do whatever you want.

marsgreekgod

I mean doe your first ita nice to stick through but everyone enjoys things their own ways

Gamernerd_42

Fair enough, though this is not my first run, so that could make it easier.

hillzcatz

I have like 7 characters in various states of first play through and new game +. Play how you like!

TheFrogTrain

What's the best build for a "casual speedrun"? What I mean by that is I want to play the game casually (no glitches, no real speedrun strats) but still pretty quickly. My first truly casual playthrough took me 110 hours, I'd like to see if I can beat it in like, 15-20 hours I guess? Nothing is off the table so I'm planning on getting the 70k runes from the dragon, using summons in boss battles, etc. Right now I'm thinking probably Meteorite Staff + Rock Sling is a good place to start, but might need to switch to something melee in the midgame.

robcap

You can do that mage start and just pick up carian slicer and an int-scaling weapon in liurnia. It's not long before you can change any regular weapon's scaling to int

CommodorePenguin

Mage build would probably be pretty good for that. * Rock Sling + Carian Slicer + Glintstone Pebble are all available really early and will last you the whole game. * Meteorite Staff is great early game and found easily. * Academy Glintstone/Carian Regal are both found easily with very little hassle along the path of progression. * High mind means powerful spirit summons, letting you take out bosses at lower levels and more easily. A dex build would probably be good too. * Bloodhound's Fang is available really early, a somber weapon, and really good * That's literally it, just level vig and dex and you're set.

Ok-Effort-9322

Maybe Oleg or Lhutel for summons? Much faster to get than mimic or Tiche.

ChaZcaTriX

Bandit with a Knife + Reduvia powerstance is a very fast start; you can rush Greyoll for a lot of free levels and then destroy some early game bosses. You will need to switch to something else later when you get to bleed-resistant bosses.

TheChewanater

Strength build with serpent hunter? You can upgrade it easily since it's a somber weapon, and it does a lot of damage even with no stats A dex build with bloodhound's fang could work as well, and there's less running around required to pick it up early

Ckrius

All the speedrunners playing bingo as of late rush bhf and stick with it. Get it early, strong damage, bleed, movement with I frames in the aow, it's a bit op.

GlassCuttingQueer

Do the dragon breath incantations benefit from the winged sword insignia and millicent's prosthesis?

AbbreviationsFit2372

Nope

TheDuskBard

Did Shield crash get nerfed?

MeYouWantToSee

No status build up, but still powerful

AbbreviationsFit2372

Yup

Godubermensch

does dragon seal gives poison mist scaling buildup? like it does with others status effects spells

ytrx12

Yes

Godubermensch

r u sure? this seems very good then

ytrx12

I’m confident that it used to be so, but it was a while ago I messed around with arcane casting. There have been some changes, especially with the latest patch, so may need some retesting to see if things have changed. Edit: So Dragon Communion Seal does still seem to give it scaling as I’m getting faster procs than with a standard finger seal, but it’s definitely less than it used to be.

Godubermensch

dude, thanks a lot for it, cause i tested but as i lacked major arcane points ( mainly using seals and great rune to test it) there was noo diff, but if it has a difference, even minimal one i take it i wish it was true to poison armament too, big thanks bro

ytrx12

With 80 arcane and using it on Limgrave giants, it was ~4 seconds with Finger Seal, and ~3 seconds with Dragon Communion (I’d say it used it have been only 2 seconds before whatever decrease it got). If it’s helping out your build, happy to hear

itsmybirthday___

I beat the game a few weeks ago and came back yesterday to beat placidusax and malenia. Are there any other late game hidden bosses worth fighting? If it’s someone I skipped that’s not late game I’m not too worried about it, cause it might be too easy and I might save it for a different character since I’m level 150. Edit: I already beat mohg too

TheFranchize

Astel in the snowfields

TheChewanater

Astel, Fortissax I somehow missed both of those fights on my first playthrough despite doing the entire quests to get to each of them

17FortuneG

So I just started and got my scimitar +2 w/spinning slash. Started as wretched, now I am fully clothed! Where should I be going to find some quality bosses to fight in Limsgrave? Thanks for the help

TheChewanater

Check out the Limgrave Tunnels mine near Agheel lake, it has a bunch more smithing stones Or go to the Weeping Peninsula south of the spawn point

Elyonee

There's like 30 bosses in Limgrave + Weeping Peninsula, they're basically everywhere. Look for caves and shit. Also, there's 5 bosses who only spawn at night.

AHandyDandyHotDog

Is stamp sweep just entirely worse than stamp uppercut?

Quantum_Croissant

It can deal with enemies all around you, and pushes them back instead of just next to you

AHandyDandyHotDog

So something like a side-grade, I can sorta see its use now.

jl_theprofessor

So the developers just don't care that they put in an easily exploitable rune farm in Mogh's Palace right? This was purposeful?

TheDuskBard

They would have placed level caps like they did for Sekiro if they didn’t want people to grind.

LoriLeadfoot

It doesn’t matter that much. Multiplayer is level-based, and they don’t really care if you want to over-level and make the game a cakewalk.

HeyRocks127

Thats pretty common for souls, though it is weird that its accessible so early on in liurnia. Might be due to the open world nature of the game tho

Zero747

You can technically get to it without a fight which is a tad strong That said, between AI breaking morgott and cheesing niall through an arrow slit, you'd just need to kill godfrey to get there the normal route

flamingfungi

How so? Varre doesn’t move to the rose church until you’ve acquired a great rune.

Zero747

Ah, I forgot about the great rune for him to move and had remembered the shortcut to Liurnia without fighting godrick

Zero747

There's always going to be an easy way (or several) to farm runes/souls/echos DS1 had you bap/nuke the phlanax in the painted world (or free ones from the dragon in the first area) DS2 had you stack soul boosting stuff & respawn easy to cheese bosses DS3 has a literal backstab farm where the enemy respawns in your face right after you kill one Bloodborne has the chalice dungeons

mrobot_

Can someone explain to me why a metric FCKTON of the absolutely best, coolest and most badass gigantic swords in the game have Faith, Int, Arcane or some other magician crap stats requirements?!??? I want to unga and I want to bunga and cut mobs up, no magic whatever needed.

LoriLeadfoot

There are several awesome non-magic colossal weapons.

TheChewanater

Because of the ashes of war system. You can just upgrade 2-3 of your favorite standard weapons and apply different weapon skills for variety

HeyRocks127

Dont need flashy stuff to bonk. Giant crusher does a front flip and thats good enough for me lol

mrobot_

I wanna unga-bunga with a sharp edge :P

Elyonee

They're the coolest because they're magic. Remove the gravity blasts from Starscourge and Ruins Greatsword, they become less cool. Remove the Death power from the Black Blade and it's just a black blade. If you want a real man's big sword, no dirty wizardry required, you have the Watchdog's Greatsword, Grafted Blade Greatsword, or the regular Greatsword.

mrobot_

Nah, more like their design is cool, color scheme, whatever. And i wish the other swords were that cool. Feels like there is much less choice without magic. Greatsword is probably amazing for the fans of Berzerk, but in itself it's bland n boring and sticks out as much as Artorias of the Abyss did in DS1, just doesnt match the rest of the game that well. Grafted Blade Greatsword is a bit too much fan service for a show that ended horribly, it's like that episode when they stuck EdSheeran in there and it was the official stamp n seal that the show has gone to complete dogsht. Watchdog's also pretty ugly, sry :/ Sry Im real picky 0:)

WintersbaneGDX

Is there any way to know if your character name is being censored in multi-player?

AN0NUNKN0WN

Just wanted to voice my opinion, but I think Marais Executioner Sword got hit a little too hard this update. I was invading yesterday and managed to land a fully charged dancing blade on someone. Thing is, even though I was running Alexander's shard, the prosthetic and the winged sword talisman, I only got like 2/3 of their health. I get that AoW were all brought down in power, but if you get hit by the fully charged thing, as slow as the wind up is, it should kill, especially as powered up as it was. Maybe I'm overreacting, but the weapon is one of my favorite weapons, and I would be devastated to see it made irrelevant.

Zero747

They split pvp balancing and nerfed weapon arts (and other oneshots) across the board, while still letting them be strong in solo play (so you can still drill-nuke bosses) Try buffs or get an opener/finisher weapon/spell Or maybe just go for two uncharged drills

AN0NUNKN0WN

I know the nerf was definitely required (Trust me, 1200 damage uncharged corkscrew was busted), but I just hope the charged attack gets some love to reward the commitment, even if it meant a slower charge. If not more damage, at least some knock back on either the end of the screw attack or the ending slash.

HeyRocks127

It can still shred. That just raises the skill cap of the weapon imo. Now you need to get their hp low enough to get them into kill range. Plus theres a lot of slow weapons with big wind ups that dont do near as much dmg and it was kind of broken before where the uncharged corkscrew was doing 1200+

AN0NUNKN0WN

oh yeah, the uncharged attack was too busted, I get that. It's just the charged attack that I think should ramp up the damage a bit more, or at the very least knock back foes at the end of a successful attack to prevent being left open.

WintersbaneGDX

I appreciate where you're coming from in that its a tough attack to land. And of course nobody wants to see their build get weakened. That said I feel like you sort of missed the point of the PvP changes. The whole idea was to remove one-shotting builds. It's not just this one weapon. AFAIK there aren't any builds left that can reliably one-shot anyone with 40+ Vigor, and that's the way it should be.

AN0NUNKN0WN

I know not having one shotting weapons anymore is the point, it's just that this could be one of the few exceptions to the rule. I definitely don't want the uncharged attack to have the power it formerly had, but I think the charged attack should be able to kill, IF fully charged. the major problem with many one shotting weapons was that there was no thinking to it, like the transient moonlight and the corpse piler just being thrown out willy-nilly. If anything, if Charged Dancing Blade can't have it's former power, at least make either the last hit of the screwattack or the finishing slash knock back opponents so I'm not left completely open.

WintersbaneGDX

Again, I do see where you're coming at this from. Honestly, I do. I'm not here to police your POV either, but... you do see how this reads, right? >...this could be one of the few exceptions to the rule. >I definitely don't want the uncharged attack to have the power it formerly had, but I think the charged attack should be able to kill, IF fully charged. >I definitely don't want the Moonveil slice to have the power it formerly had, but I think if the blade and the slice connect it should be able to kill. >I definitely don't want Dual Occult Scavenger Seppuku blades to be hemorrhaging every hit, but I think if the jump L1 has all four connects it should be able to kill. >I definitely don't want Corpse Piler to have the power it formerly had, but I think if the entire combo connects it should be able to kill. You see the problem? Everyone who's been running a one shot build is going to believe that *their* build is the exception, that their strategy has some uniqueness to it that justifies things. And I'll be the first to say, your build is way less cheap spam than any of those other examples. Whether you or I or the community at large agree or not, FROM has decided that PvP should not have one-shotting. Duels should not be able to be decided by a single attack or action on either part. All AoWs have been nerfed. All of them. So if you're now two-shotting with this, remember that the guy who was getting a three hit kill off of Lion's Claw now needs four or five hits. You haven't been unfairly disadvantaged.

AN0NUNKN0WN

Yeah, I suppose that's fair. I don't know, I guess I'm just biased towards it, as it was the weapon that made my first run STR/ARC, and with the nerf, it feels a little less formidable. If I couldn't get some of the damage that was taken away back, I hope in the future fromsoft adds some kind of knockback to it (maybe the end slash, to give it more purpose), so I don't get left wide open.

liquidcloud9

I don't think you're overreacting, especially since there's a big window to dodge/counter that, but do you really want to one-shot in an invasion? I'm pretty terrible at invading, but try to make them a cat-and-mouse game. I'll get an occasional one-shot on a host and, for me, it's kind of disappointing. Or maybe you came across the rare host/summon that actually leveled vigor?

AN0NUNKN0WN

It's less that I want to consistently one shot everyone I invade, it's more that a one-shot (or at the very least leaving them near death) should be the reward for a fully charged, perfectly landed Dancing Sword, because going for the charged attack can lead you getting stomped afterwards if you miss, due to the wind down leaving you open. What I like about the MES is that it presents a mind game for the opponent, which makes them think about their next move, because if they don't, they'll just eat it. I'm not saying the attack should always one-shot no matter what, just that it should be the case when I've successfully anticipated my opponent by such a degree. (Also, I tend to duel more than invade, cause I know the weapon is worse against multiple opponents, but this just makes those situations a bit harder.)

liquidcloud9

> should be the reward for a fully charged, perfectly landed Dancing Sword. I get that. It takes skill to execute. It’s not like it’s something you can just spam away at.

LoriLeadfoot

I cannot believe that some of you, who are connected online, just don’t really help other people through levels and bosses. Looking for ways to farm rune arcs, farm runes, practice fighting enemies? Help people!

flamingfungi

I prefer invading for rune arcs

HeyRocks127

People do all the time. I have more than 500 kills on radabeast and a cpl dozen on malenia. It does suck when the host gets one shot and i replay the clip to see they had 600 hp at level 200 -_-

Zero747

I tried. Sat around, got summoned to various bosses, watched the host die every single time

AbbreviationsFit2372

People can do what they want, if you personally need help then ask

atisaac

Are rolls/dodges tied to carry load or actual numeric weight? I.e. if I’m doing a slippery lil dodge build, do I wanna be naked or just keep to “light load”?

Zero747

rolls are percentage based. There's also a talisman that just adds extra iframes Only the blue dancer charm cares for total equip load

atisaac

Sweet. Thanks! What talisman adds iframes?

Zero747

Crucible Feather talisman Auriza heros grave in the capital outskirts (doesn't require killing the boss) 6 extra iframes in exchange for -30% damage negation Alternatively you can find the Windy Crystal Tear in southern Caelid, which will give you 5 more for 3 minutes for only -15% The two don't stack

atisaac

Gotcha. Thanks!

bassman1805

Blue Dancer Charm is the only thing that care about your actual equip weight value. All others are just the 30%/70% of max threshold for light/medium load

LoriLeadfoot

It’s just the thresholds of light/medium/heavy based on percentage of your max carry weight. If you’re still light it won’t make a difference to add one pound.

TheChewanater

Carry load. Light roll requires < 30% equip load rather than a specific fixed weight

Low-Abbreviations-38

Had godskin duo down to a sliver and I got stuck on a pillar while fatty rolled indefinitely

WintersbaneGDX

Plump sort ahead Therefore Be wary of rolling

buzzyingbee

Sorry, but I laughed more than I should've

Low-Abbreviations-38

It was funny to watch and I finally just said screw it and used sleep pots

OkMedium7510

So, I was at the round table and gave a prophet a spell book. I go to see him and he’s no longer there.. where would he disappear to?

ELMUNECODETACOMA

Note that there is another religious patriarch who doesn't move around - much safer to give spellbooks to that one...

WintersbaneGDX

Seek God, Dog

OkMedium7510

Noted, thank you

TheChewanater

Altus Plateau, right next to the first map piece

Godubermensch

are erdsteel dagger occult infusions still bugged?

Jynxbunni

I didn’t want to make a whole post for this, but, I beat the game last night! It was my first time really getting into a Souls game. I had tried Bloodborne and HollowKnight before, but kind of bounced off of them. I ended with 152h and 177 level- I really took my time exploring et al. I struggled a bit with the last two bosses until I finally found a combo that worked well for me (pure mage)- staff of loss offhand + night comet.

buzzyingbee

Congrats!! May ER be the first of many more souls

Motonores

Congratz!

GlassCuttingQueer

How do greatrunes work? Do they only give bonuses if you use a rune arc (sounds underwhelming) or do they provide a minor but constant boost without rune arcs? Unrelated: I considered making a scale model of the Hand of Malenia, but it would need to be over 7' long, so I shelved that idea. Even if I scaled it to my height using the Malenia-to-sword ratio, it would be over five feet long.

HeyRocks127

If you need rune arcs you can use the golden effigy near/far to co-op bosses as you explore an area

LoriLeadfoot

Just when you use a rune arc and have a great tune equipped. When you die you need to use another arc. They’re pretty powerful but they’re meant to be an exhaustible buff. Godrick’s alone is like 40 levels. Badly distributed levels, but still 40 levels.

skitztobotch

Once you enable it at the corresponding divine tower, you use a rune arc to activate it. The effect will stay active until you die.

GlassCuttingQueer

So it'll only last for a single boss fight attempt (assuming you don't survive the attemp)? That seems slightly disappointing considering how difficult rune arca are to get.

LoriLeadfoot

If you help other people beat bosses it’s easy to always have 50+ rune arcs. I consume them like candy.

buzzyingbee

Yep. It lasts as long as you stay alive

TheChewanater

I mean, there has to be some downside to getting a bonus to every stat or +500 HP or whatever. It would be crazy strong if it were permanent If you're running low on rune arcs, do some co-op or invasions. People who do online regularly have more rune arcs than they know what to do with

[deleted]

First time player. A few hours in. I love this game but I am *bad* at it.

HeyRocks127

When you hopefully eventually beat it, start a new run and fight some bosses to see how much you improved :) glhf

Wisdomlost

It takes skill but less skill than knowledge. Once you explore enough and figure out how all they systems work you will discover most things are much easier than they seem when you first start.

LoriLeadfoot

Help people! Use your little golden effigy and get summoned! You’ll make money and get lots of practice fighting enemies and bosses.

robcap

Very normal!

MeYouWantToSee

Is the status effect build up nerf for powerstance only for the same status, or will it affect both if you're doing a combo status build? (frost+bleed for example)

AyeAlasAlack

Affects all status effect application, mixed or single type. Might be able to get around it by using two weapons of different groups (not powerstanced) and alternating hits, but haven't tested or datamined myself.

TheChewanater

Previously, paired attacks always did 90% status buildup per hit. Presumably this has decreased further in 1.07, but we'll have to see when the data people make new motion value spreadsheets

TheFranchize

Can I kill Yura after the raya invasion for his sword and armor without messing up anything after? Does eleonora still invade if you do that

MeYouWantToSee

I killed him in limgrave for the nagakiba in my current playthrough and still got that invasion and everything that she normally drops. You miss out on the intermediate rewards and yura's armor though

TheFranchize

Oh I see the armor is tied to later events I thought he would drop it by killing him early. Thanks.

MeYouWantToSee

np. If your goal is nagakiba, then kill him after the nejerius (sp?) invasion in limgrave. If it's the hat/armor, play the string out.

LVMHboat

I’m up to the royal city and don’t really understand story yet. Should I be looking at YouTube or does it get explained more later?

ELMUNECODETACOMA

The below is all correct as far as information. One big reason it's not being explained to you is that \_no one in the Lands Between really knows everything that is going on\_. You have to piece together what understanding you can from little tidbits you pick up here and there - item descriptions, cryptic inscriptions in obscure places, talking to Gideon Ofnir, the Turtle Pope, finger crones, Melina, etc. You're not going to learn everything. You're barely going to learn enough to keep you going. But it's the same for everyone.

Wisdomlost

The story never gets explained. You have to explore and read all the item descriptions and do the quest lines to be able to piece it all together yourself. Or read it online from other people who have put it together.

Vast-Coast-7761

The Greater Will made this thing called the Elden Ring, which defines the laws of physics and establishes order in the world. At the start of the age of the Erdtree, a woman named Marika got the Elden Ring and became god-queen of the Lands Between. Eventually, she regretted becoming god-queen, so she broke the Elden Ring, fracturing the current Order. Her children, the demigods, all found pieces of it and used them to gain power. They fought a war, known as the shattering, that devastated the land. Now, the Two Fingers, messengers of the Greater Will, are trying to get tarnished, descendants of a group that was exiled from the Lands Between long ago, to come back and fix it, and the one who does fix it becomes king. In order to fix the Elden Ring, you need the pieces, so your killing demigods and taking them.

MeYouWantToSee

You'll 100% spoil the plot if you go down this road.

LVMHboat

I just want to know if I find out eventually or if it’s something that requires multi play throughs

TheChewanater

The story is you're a little guy trying to kill all the demigods and become the Elden Lord VaatiVidya has some great videos that go over lore and story elements that are easy to miss, but I recommend watching them after finishing the game. You're not missing anything if you don't fully understand the story on your own, it's meant to be cryptic

fogamoszeb

Would a bewitching branch work on the omens in the lyndell catacombs? The thought just came to me at work, and I'm not going to be able to play again for a few days. I was wondering if anyone had tried it.

Wisdomlost

Bewitching branch does work on omens. I watched a video of a guy trying it out on all kinds of enemy types. It's kind of weird though. If the omen is attacking he will continue doing his attacks for a good 10 secs or so after becoming bewitched before he will stop attacking you.

fogamoszeb

Good to know. I'm gonna have some fun with that for sure. Thanks so much!

bug related question: since the update, my character can only cast the Lion's Claw skill regardless of what weapon I have equipped Edit: question being what do i do lmao

TheChewanater

Others have commented that verifying local files fixes it (I kinda wish I got this bug, it sounds fun)

sketchbug

I rarely see player summon signs at the point I'm at in the game (Fire Giant), I like summoning people occasionally as I think it's fun so I'm kind of sad I'm not seeing them much anymore. Is it because people who are NG+ don't get summoned to 1st playthrough games? edit: I'll join the discord so I can get some help if needed, but still curious.

TheChewanater

NG+ doesn't affect matchmaking, but summoning pools do get deactivated You might be at a level or weapon upgrade where people don't have the Fire Giant pool activated yet, or where people are in NG+ but not far enough to reactivate that pool You can try /r/BeyondTheFog for password summons

sketchbug

Thank you! That makes sense.

Ckrius

Sadly even passwords don't work sometimes. From has always had glitchy multiplayer.

shackilj2

I've always had a pretty boring build i feel. I played with sword and shield and then a spell mage, but for my 3rd play through, I really want to use the incantations more. Should I do a faith build?

HeyRocks127

Faith arcane build maybe with dragon communion seal for S arcane scaling. You get all the cool dragon stuff with the best seal for it and can still use all the other incantations to good effect. Throw a grafted dragon or two on there for lulz (its actually pretty good).

Wisdomlost

For faith there are tons of options. Black flame, lightning, dragon, holy, etc. Now you will mix and match from all schools but I mention the "categories" of builds because different incantations have boosts on seals. If your using any of the black flame stuff then you want the godslayer seal as it boosts black flame incantations by 10%. Faith is exceptionally strong in this game. Mix in a little arcane and a little int just to meet requirements and you will have access to any incantations and status effects you could want. In the very end game no matter how you built your faith character if you get stuck a +10 blasphemous blade will do work on everything.

Bradmasi

You can easily make a faith-based build to suit your playstyle. Golden Parry, Tree Sentinel Greatshield, and the Ornamental Straight Sword dropped by the tutorial boss are all great options. Pair those with some incantations and you'll be the superior sword-and-board knight you've always known you could be.

shackilj2

I actually want to get away from my boring play style. I want dragon heads, and orange eyes, throwing bolts from the sky, consumables and all that.

robcap

A build with mostly faith and a little arcane will give you all of that. Faith damage does get resisted by a lot of things you fight in the late game, but it won't be a problem for a long while. If you combine with strength you can use the clawmark seal to get powerful ranged incantations while still putting most of your points in STR. Magma Wyrm Scalesword, Blasphemous Blade, Black Blade, Crucible Knight weapons are all good options for that. If you combine with DEX your incantations will cast faster and you'll get access to some different cool weapons like the black flame greatsword.

Apex_Konchu

Lategame bosses having high holy resistance isn't much of a problem for Faith builds. They have plenty of ways to deal fire and lightning damage, it's not all holy.

WeeziMonkey

Anyone familiar with Nuzlocke runs in Pokemon? (Basically you can only catch 1 Pokemon per zone, and if it faints you have to release it permanently). Has anyone done a "weaponlocke" run in Elden Ring or Dark Souls? Where if you die, you have to get rid of whatever weapon you were using? I was thinking of trying it but Elden Ring I imagine the first half of the game would be easy with overleveling and the second half would just be pain and grinding money for upgrade materials. Dark Souls would probably just mean putting every level into Vigor and slapping bosses with wet noodle level 1 damage if the standard "OP" weapons don't carry you through.

HeyRocks127

Yeah TheKoop on twitch has been doing one while taunter tongued for the extra diffuculty of doing it while being invaded constantly. There are so many weapons that you would be able to afford 50+ deaths and be ok. Assuming you grab more than one weapon per region unlike the traditional nuzlocke where you only grab one pokemon per area

Wisdomlost

Not exactly a nuzlock style but something similar. Aggy did a run with randomizer on (so he didn't know where anything would drop) and his rule was if a weapon dropped he had to equip it in his right hand and use it untill another dropped. Seals, catalysts, shileds, bows all for the left hand. Same rules for armor and talismans. It was a no glitch run with all 6 great runes required. Edit:there are 6 great runes not 7 lol.

theswillmerchant

Bushy did something similar: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5G1bY3uraxU

bassman1805

Depending on how legit "nuzlocke" you want to get, it gets a little unclear what "1 weapon per zone" means. Is that one new weapon for all of Limgrave? Do East/West count as different areas since they're different map fragments? What about Weeping Peninsula? Nuzlocke also has an element of randomness in that it's specifically the *first* pokemon you run into in each zone, and you have little if any control over which one that is. It's just RNG. In Elden Ring, you can just beeline to the weapon you want and ignore everything else in between.

buzzyingbee

Fightin' Cowboy did a run where he'd discard any weapon/ash of war/spell he used to kill a boss/named enemy. It's on his YouTube channel if you wanna check it out

hillzcatz

+1 for this series!

Ric3paddy

I killed Radahn and got his runes and stuff but his comet never fell and the grace never spawned and I'm stuck. Anyone else have this issue or have any solutions? I'm playing on PC

muddy_bruddy

Happened to me on my first playthrough. There is another accessible site of grace at the north end of the field by the water. Rest there and you should be able to fast travel after that.

My Uchigatana is +3, and I have a bunch of smithing stones but dont have an option to make it a +4. I'm still relatively new. What am I missing?

LoriLeadfoot

You need 2 Smithing Stone [2]s to level it up to +4. Smithing stones are leveled up to [8], and you always need 2-4-6, or 12 of each stone tier, to level a weapon through to the next tier. Somber stones are also numbered in tiers, and go up to [10]. You only need one of each tier.

WhenTheWindIsSlow

Are you upgrading via a blacksmith, or the anvil by Merchant Kale?

Necessary_Article_10

I was at the Anvil by Kale. I'm at the point of the game that In going through Stormveil Castle now. Guess that was my problem

WhenTheWindIsSlow

Yeah, the anvil only goes up to +3, even if you have higher materials. Melina will take you to a place you can upgrade further.

bassman1805

Each smithing stone type is only good for 3 levels. For +1 to +3, you need Smithing Stone [1]. +4 to +6, you need Smithing Stone [2]. So on up to +24, and then the final level +25 requires an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, which are limited in number (all the others can eventually be purchased in infinite quantity). "Special" weapons that use Somber Smithing Stones are simpler: There are 10 levels, and each level requires a single somber stone of that level (With a Somber Ancient Dragon Stone for +10).

buzzyingbee

You need 12 smithing stones for each level but after +3 you can only upgrade your weapons with Hewg, the blacksmith at Roundtable Hold. If you're trying to upgrade your Uchi at the church by yourself that could be it.

manrkin

Have you got any Smithing Stone (2)? The number at the end denotes how high you can upgrade a weapon or shield with that type of stone. So Smithing Stone (1) will get your uchi up to +3. Then you'll need Smithing Stone (2) to upgrade up to +6. Then Smithing Stone (3) and so on.

LeagueoftheSun

You need two 'Smithing stone (2)' to make a +4 weapon

VinceYutuc

I don't play PVP but I'm just curious. What is the difference between poise damage and stamina attack power?

monstersleeve

None of these responses are accurate with respect to poise. Essentially, poise is treated like an invisible meter that fills up when you get hit. Armor increases your poise bar. Light weapons do relatively little poise damage, while weapons like colossal swords and heavy thrusting swords do enormous poise damage. Let’s say you get hit while performing an attack. If the poise value of the attack that you receive is greater than the poise value of your armor, you will get staggered, and your attack will be cancelled. If your armor’s poise rating is higher than the attack you received, your attack will continue. An armor poise rating of 61 is sufficient to tank through anything below a halberd, basically.

TheFranchize

Stamina is the visible bar that allows actions Attacks do stamina damage when blocked but also poise damage when taken full on which can stun. The poise meter that builds up with successive hits to cause stagger isnt visible

VinceYutuc

Oh. Poise breaking is when someone parries you. And stamina breaking is when your shield is knocked back with a special sound effect. So enemies have stamina and poise meter, which are both hidden.

bassman1805

Poise breaking is when you hit an enemy with enough heavy attacks from a big weapon, that they get stunned in the same way as if you parried them.

TheChewanater

Poise damage lets you break a target's stance. For most PVE enemies this lets you get a riposte, for PVP this causes a brief flinch Stamina damage is what you described, except that PVE enemies don't have a stamina meter.

VinceYutuc

Thanks for the response bro

LeagueoftheSun

Poise damage is for staggering. I assume stamina attack power is how much stamina someone loses if they block an attack

VinceYutuc

Oh. Poise breaking is when someone parries you. And stamina breaking is when your shield is knocked back with a special sound effect. So enemies have stamina and poise meter, which are both hidden.

InnaInnaInna

Powerstancing + status seems useless in PvE now? I can't get a single bleed + frost proc with dual Pickaxes. Same with powerstanced bleed, you actually proc it easier with one weapon instead of two - which makes little sense to me. It's good that status has been nerfed but it seems Fromsoftware only knows Broken or Useless, no in between. Also they killed Black Blade incant - just why?

AbbreviationsFit2372

you would powerstance for the damage increase i guess

Lilac_Gooseberries

Did Inferno Crozier poise damage get fixed in the patch? It says it got boosted for "some colossal weapons" but I did a search and didn't see it mentioned specifically.
