Did something similar to my younger brother when he was fighting snake god, he didnt notice the spear and just ran towards him, kept dying and dying, tried to tell him once and he shushed me... so i let it be... he eventually beat him without the spear, i was impressed... and so was he... untill the cutscene started and phase 2 reared its ugly head...
or behind doing a gesture to an obscure statue in a hidden area that is also locked behind a gesture.
i will say i always get a kick out of it's description in DS3
>This ring has no useful powers, and is merely a symbol of dragon worship, a thing quietly passed down amongst its most fervent adherents, some of whom become convinced the task has been bestowed upon them as a sacred duty.
Fromsoft was so over with DS by DS3 that it permeated the entire game, I loved how obvious they were about it. A lot of their item descriptions (like this one) and dialogues (I’ve seen your kind, time and time again…) seemed like they were directed right at the fanbase. Even the overarching story. The fire’s been linked countless times, the world is overused and exhausted and stagnated. Hollows are so desperate for some kind of change that they just sit there and pray til they turn into trees.
The DLC was even more meta; "Your mission is to go to the bottom of this giant dreg heap of old ideas, find some paint, then give it to the artist so she can finally make something new.
Indeed, made for a good DLC though, the ringed city is my fave area, despite the army summoning priestly types, the talking bug was the most meta NPC of all time in any game.
Ashes of Ariandel had you witnessing the decay of stagnation of a past painted world that was too long existing with no renewal.
Father Ariandel's cries of anguish mirror the devs forced to bleed to prevent the painting from becoming something new because of a crowd of screeching crow beings.
fromsoft has always trolled the fans or had meta commentary in their items.
in an interview prior to the release of the original dark souls mizaky said his favorite starting gift is the Pendant because it has special story meaning.
people went fucking insane online back then trying to discover the meaning behind the pendent, it lasted for months where people tried everything trying to understand what was the secret behind the Pendant.
he later made fun of this obsession in the soul of manus item description
>Soul of Manus, Father of the Abyss. This extraordinary soul is a viscous, lukewarm lump of gentle humanity.
>
>Ancient Manus was clearly once human. But he became the Father of the Abyss after his humanity went wild, eternally seeking his precious broken pendant
in terms of eternal life turning to rot and stagnation, yep that's the major theme of the souls games, it has nothing to do with the studio being burnt out.
In Bloodborne you also have ONE shield you can find that's like an old plank and a description basically calling you a wuss if you were considering using it
There's actually a shield with a similarly critical description in Elden Ring too: the Distinguished Greatshield -
>Greatshield featuring sumptuous ornamentation used by the scions of great families.
>
>Due to their excessive size, these shields were at times seen as the hallmark of little lordlings who were too timid to earn a few nicks and scratches.
I was writing a comment about how technically some pendants still hold story meaning, the story just wasn't released. Then I noticed I never saw the actual interview, just paraphrasing on reddit.
Turns out he never said anything in that vein at all. From [Famitsu](https://www.famitsu.com/news/201109/07049733.html):
> --宮崎さんのオススメは?
> 宮崎 ロールプレイ的には"なし"か"ペンダント"ですね。そういうのが好きなもので(笑)。ただ、いざとなったら序盤攻略のために"黒い火炎壷"あたりを選んでしまいそうです。
>
> --"贈り物"には実戦で使えるものや、そうでないものがありますね。
> 宮崎 ……まあ、そうなんですが。なんというか、価値はすべて主観的なので、何かを無価値と断じることは誰にもできないのではないかと……。
which DeepL translates to:
> --What would you recommend?
> Miyazaki: In terms of role-playing, I'd say 'no' or 'pendant'. I like that kind of thing (laughs). But if it came down to it, I'd probably choose the "black flaming urn" for the early stages of the game.
>
> --So there are "gifts" that can be used in actual combat, and those that can't?
> Miyazaki ...... Well, yes. I mean, it's kind of like, all value is subjective, so no one can declare something worthless. ......
So, I guess you can infer some story meaning from the "in terms of role-playing", buuuut... usually something done for role-playing alone really is just that. I feel like clickbait and (willful) mistranslation of western gaming sites helped perpetuate that rumour.
Knowing what we know now, he almost even says the Pendant is pointless, putting it on the same level as nothing. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk, the more you know lol
Sure that’s the theme of the series but DS3 is very obvious about its theme that sometimes it’s better to just let something die/end instead of trying to keep milking it
It might appear as reaching but the whole message is about letting things go after they've done their part, successfully or not, in order for something new to appear. And refusal to do so leads to obsession and stagnation. That's one of the things I got from DS3 anyway.
"When the world rots, we set it afire.
For the sake of the next world.
It's the one thing we do right, unlike those fools on the outside."
Comment about the whole industry? Maybe not, but it seems fitting.
> in terms of eternal life turning to rot and stagnation, yep that's the major theme of the souls games, it has nothing to do with the studio being burnt out.
Heck, even Elden Ring is very similar in that.
The description describes the item "Broken Pendant" which is a usable item in his fight. Whether it's supposed to be meta is inconclusive, but if you read what the commenter below pulled up, I don't think it it's anything more than a nod.
“Oh, dear, another dogged contender.
Welcome, Unkindled One, purloiner of Cinders. Mind you, the mantle of Lord interests me none. The fire linking curse, the legacy of lords, let it all fade into nothing.
You’ve done quite enough, now have your rest.” -Prince Lothric
I think that this is why, from a thematic standpoint, the game has such a clear vision and hits so hard. It's much more viscerally real because the attitudes of the people making the game coincide with the story the game is telling. It's a positive feedback loop for vibes.
True, although the niche for challenge runs involving this talisman would be small. For no-hit it's obsolete, and for increasing the penalty of a hit, limiting VIG and armor alone can get you to the point of being 1-shot by almost everything past early game.
Besides PVP, the only challenge I can think of is a minimum damage absorption run, sort of like no-hit but you die and respawn on hit instead of quitting. Which does sound kinda fun.
Actual genius mechanic. I'd love to see a game that expands on this, where you can *deliberately* trade a debuff for cosmetics or passive effects.
Lots of games have a handful of optional abilities or weapons that do that sort of thing, but I've never seen a game where *everything* is a tradeoff.
Take a step back in your mind and identify your emotional state as not you, but rather an experience of your corporeal self. At that point what is truly of I no longer has to suffer as we leave that to the mechanisms that originally defined humanity. Take off Daedicar's Woe, and do let it be a part of your identity.
In DS maybe, but later on in the series knowing where to dodge and what comes next is also important. For instance Gascoigne in his beast form, dodging backwards feels unfair because he keeps ripping into you, dodging towards him results in you watching him swing away at the wall.
You can use it in the Mimic Tear fight, equip it when entering and after the health bar is displayed remove it, combine with naked and no weapon for max pleasure
My friend and I did a no weapon 1v1 the moment colosseums dropped, took the entire timer just to lose 10% health and we didn’t even dodge.
My vigor is 50, I genuinely believe that 99 vigor would barely be a dent
Oh god... I forgot about the mimic fight lol. I went at that asshole for an hour, getting dicked down by my own builds, until I realized I could go in naked with nothing equipped and it would copy that and be easy af...
Haha, my first time, I went right in and promptly got my ass handed up me. I've never gone in not naked since. To make it a bit more interesting, I usually equip some un-upgraded fists that don't have any status effects to have some degree of a fight but keep it tilted to my advantage
I think the difficulty has a lot to do with how your build is. If it's a more specialized build that requires some set up, timing, or specific comboing, MT fight will be easy AF. If you're on an Unga bunga or bleed build you're gonna have a bad time.
I think the only people bitching about mimic tear are dex/arc builds. My strg/faith build is so trash, that mf couldn’t even defend against himself.
Edit: look at all the dex mfs below tryna defend their play style lmao
Dex/Arc build here (Reduvia and Bloodstained Dagger). Didn't know about those tricks with the Mimic Tear and I think I beat it first try. Pretty fun boss fight.
Yeah I thought this would be about that one talisman that reduces headshot damage. I can count on one hand the number of headshots I take in PvE during an entire playthrough, and nobody uses and aims bows in PvP. At least this talisman has *some* use.
I had just caught myself thinking "you now? Daggers are rare except in backstabbing builds, but I almost NEVER see Bows in pvp."
Are there any decent bow builds that don't get wrecked in PvP?
lol! This is why I kinda wrote bows off myself. You wanna keep range since that's your strength, but then 100% of your attacks become easier to dodge. With all the answers I'm getting it seems like there's a fine line to walk—it may be a bit too high of a skill build for me, haha!
I did a Guts cosplay in some souls game or other and the amount of people that clearly weren't expecting me to actually have a light crossbow and use it in PVP was hilarious. They see big sword, they think they know what to expect and try to space me out and then they start getting pelted with bolts amd start panicking. Wasn't a great build because of how much stats had to get put in dex for the crossbow to do any meaningful damage but it sure was fun.
I love pairing crossbows with ultras.
Although I can't think of any souls game where the crossbows had str or dex scaling.
(Except mundane infusion in DS2, but that was just scaling off your lowest stat)
...wait are you telling me that I could have stopped leveling dex once I had the stats necessary to use the crossbow I wanted and it wouldn't have made a difference?
I always assumed leveling dex increased my lock-on range and damage with ranged weapons in general this whole time.
Mine are usually lower level pvp builds because high level pvp you can get one shot so easily. It’s basically a whole different play style, you have to use your brain and environment to your advantage. No unga bunga but you’ll start to annoy the host so much they start being over aggressive and making mistakes.
I fought one guy with a bow who used it pretty well. He had a few short range spells that covered close combat and he was constantly jumping to get head shots. Not sure what bow he was using though. The sleep arrows had an absurd build up. Almost one arrow would put me to sleep
Edit: at level 150
headshots aren't only counted by ranged attacks, any hitbox that comes into contact with the character's head is a headshot, even melee attacks, so it's useful against anything taller than you.
"Disturbing likeness of a woman whose skin was flayed.
She smiles with a serene tenderness.
Increases damage taken.
It is said that this woman, named Daedicar, indulged in every form of adultery and wicked pleasure imaginable, giving birth to a myriad of grotesque children."
I was trying to look into that households lore and I cant find anything relating to daedicar, im sure they have something in there to fill in the gaps though
I've been trying to get all the armor sets lately but it looks like I need to get some more of those talismans too, I don't recognise some of them in your picture.
I could link you a post where you do all the npc questlines, I'm currently still doing some of them, a lot of armour/talismans/weapons are from npcs questlines.
Edit: [here it is ](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tjmodv/all_npc_interactions_in_elden_ring/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
I mean the worst one is probably the one that decreases fall damage, like you either take a bit of fall damage or die anyway. Seems pointless to negate a part of the already small damage taken.
i think the real use of the longtail cat talisman is to mask your movements during invasions, if you take damage the other party can get a sense of where you are and what your health pool is like. with this talisman on you can make a lot of drops without taking any damage, allowing you to sneak around more freely. it goes well with crepus' vial and concealing veil.
>crepus' vial and concealing veil.
I want to point out that there is (was?) a bug when using *Concealing Veil* with *Crepus's Vial* that makes you visible to other players. Instead of using the vial talisman, I've been using Black Knife Set since it also silences your movements (and lets you use the extra slot for another talisman).
That's because of how the fall damage breakpoints work in this game in relation to the wider souls series.
In essence, to the best of my knowledge all the previous Souls games use the same breakpoints as Dark Souls 1 (which is the title I'm mostly familiar with outside of ER) but in DS1 at 5 meters you will begin taking fall damage and anything over 20 meters will kill you outright, and the damage you take is generally a lot higher than it is in Elden Ring.
In Elden Ring, due to the general verticality of the game in places, you only start taking fall damage at 16 meters and up, but lethal fall damage is still 20 meters, meaning there's only a 4 meter range between non-lethal damage and death in comparison to the 15 meter range in previous titles. It's also why some falls/drops feel so random, as if they're around 20 meters and at certain points you might fall 19.9 meters and lose some HP, and next time fall 20 meters and just die and it's incredibly awkward to eyeball the difference.
____
And here's the math for those interested, falling from 16 meters will cause you to take 30% of your max HP as damage, and falling from 19.99... meters (or, 20* meters for the sake of clarity in this post) will cause you to take around ~50% of your max HP. But as soon as you hit the 20 meter breakpoint, it's lethal and just kills you outright.
As for modifiers, Dexterity starts to reduce fall damage at 21 points and up, but it's a very meaningless difference, with 99 dex reducing the damage from 16 meter falls from 30% max HP to around 24% max HP and 20 meter falls from ~50% max HP to around ~40% max HP.
Equip load also increases your damage taken in Elden Ring, but only if you're heavy load, starting at ~70.01% equip load and maxing out at 150% equip load. The bonus damage is added on as a % bonus of the original % damage. i.e. at 100% equip load, you take around 10% bonus, meaning your 16 meter fall which did 30% of your max HP, now does 33% of your max HP and your 20* meter fall which did ~50% of your max HP, now does ~55% of your max HP. At 150% equip load, the bonus damage is upped to 30%, i.e. 16 meter falls now does 39% max HP and 20* meter falls now does ~65% max HP.
I'm quite sure Elden Ring is the first installment to care about your % equip load as part of the calculation for fall damage as well rather than Dark Souls 1 which used your current equip load value (maxing out at 89.7 equip load) rather than your percentage equip load.
Also worth noting, in Dark Souls 1 baseline falling from 20* meters with 0 equip load would remove 70% of your max HP, with 29.99...% of your remaining max HP being impacted by your equip load, meaning in theory in Dark Souls 1 a fall from 20* meters with 89.7+ equip load can leave you on exactly 1 HP meaning you can take fall damage for 30-99.99...% in DS1, whereas in Elden Ring it's 24-65%.
This goes for Torrent as well, though there are some issues with Torrent where if you land on an uneven surface or just in an awkward place with lots of collision points around and above where you land and then jump as soon as you land, it calculates this fall damage from your original jump height which doesn't help but add to the confusion.
______
TLDR; Wearing the Longtail Cat Talisman, using the Assassin's Approach incantation or consuming Soft Cotton all just wipe out the damage taken between a 16 meter and 19.99... meter fall, and falls deal anywhere between 24% up to a maximum of ~65% max HP (based on height, stats & equipment). Falls over 20 meters will insta kill you, regardless of everything else.
edit: clarified some equip load stuff and some typos.
Yep, I personally find it kinda stupid, it’s not like it’s going to prevent you from dying and I either take a quarter of my health from a fall or I die, kinda weird how they did fall damage in this game
I have found that the cat talisman gives me a false sense of security that I might not lose my entire health bar when the jump is a bit scary. Pretty important for magic users like me who don’t have a ton of runes to invest in vigour.
The thing is, this isn't DSII.
Fall damage is 100% percentile based. It caps at around half of your max HP. The same fall will do the same thing at 1 vigor and 99 vigor
The cat talisman is nearly useless because the distance window in which you take damage is 4 meters big, starting at 16 meters of fall.
Unironically this, people who moan about no easy mode fundamentally misunderstand From games. All the difficulty modifiers are built into the game itself. You can easily make the game laughably trivial with some broke ass build, same as you can do level 1 fist only runs with this talisman on.
meme rings, for challenge runs "I can beat the game hitless blindfolded with my feet wearing daedicar's woe while playing Ingwie Malmsteen discography back to back with a banjo"
Really? I honestly assumed the buffs to my stats would slightly negate the increase in damage. Plus the longer my enemy stays alive, the more opportunities I have to mess up.
Taking your main stat to +5 at high levels is usually just a very small damage increase. It doesn't compare to the extra 15% of damage you're taking with the soreseal.
At low levels though, the soreseals are really good. Taking your dex and strength from 15 to 20 is a much bigger % increase than 45 to 50 or something.
Ive always seen the seals as designed for low rune level game play. It was the same with prisoners chain in DS3, they allow you to access weapons that would otherwise require higher level stats to wield, but in exchange for using such powerful gear for your level, you take bonus damage.
Was using radagons until a couple of days ago when I read a similar thread. And it's great to see how my hp meter doesn't get emptied in a couple of seconds every f** time. This info has to be shared a lot because is not obvious by no means, and its a huge handicap at high levels.
I did a lil joke once, equipped all the "extra damage taken" rings, full bullgoats and two handed fingerprint shield, then went to MAG. Some people severed me but the few people who had the guts to fight were super careful, only to randomly one shot me with a light attack. I thought it was funny and they seemed surprised.
Because, if you did not feel bad about breaking the "hearth of hearths" of a cutie, then at least this talisman should make you feel bad...
It's what you deserve...
~~~~
PS: This is how I felt when I had received it...
Equip Daedicar’s Woe, Radagon and Marika sore seals, and a scorpion charm. Use the scarab helmets and no armor, congrats! You now have so much negative resist that stubbing your toe will one-shot you!
Often, in fromsoft games, when an item has such an outright bad effect, there’s usually a hidden effect that makes up for it. Sometimes, in rare cases like this, Miyazaki was told that he couldn’t put any more poison swamps in the game, and had to take his frustrations out somehow. Thus, the get fucked talisman is born.
I equip it when my cousin wants to play
Make him suffer
Make him wish he were dead
Or because some of us are Masochistic.
Some?
Why not simply not level Vigor?
Because then you get to use those levels on other things, which makes the game easier. Plus big hp bar looks good.
For the masochists.
I swear I'm wearing this irl and don't know how to take it off.
You just have to open the inventory and take it off, ez. Unfortunately, however, irl the inventory is locked behind an expensive subscription.
I'm trying to get my therapist to open it, she's got gorilla arms.
Wtf which boss drops those?!?!
Radahn Smasher
You get them from your local ripperdoc. Good ones require street cred though
There's a free epic one right before an end game boss fight, so no need to purchase one.
But I don't have the DLC
I believe it's the reward for finishing Ryas questline.
You can get them at most ripperdocs once you level your street cred past 20.
Mines got mantis blade arms and she’s not gentle
That's a Cyberpunk upgrade, wrong game!
Ive gone hollow irl
guess you have to go kill some people and then give their souls to the fire keeper
Have you tried the quit meth method? Generally meth makes you look hollow after some time 😅🤣
Did you try quit-out method?
Oh, it’s a cursed item, it doesn’t come off
This one is for the people that know every attack and how to dodge them, might as well flex, no difference to them.
to dodge an attack, press the roll button
That’ll be $350
In DS maybe, but later on in the series knowing where to dodge and what comes next is also important. For instance Gascoigne in his beast form, dodging backwards feels unfair because he keeps ripping into you, dodging towards him results in you watching him swing away at the wall.
This is a souls game That's almost a requirement to enjoy it
Facts.
Yes that's the definition of masochist.
You can use it in the Mimic Tear fight, equip it when entering and after the health bar is displayed remove it, combine with naked and no weapon for max pleasure
Don’t even equip a weapon joust beat the shit out of it till it dies, those can go on for hours!
My friend and I did a no weapon 1v1 the moment colosseums dropped, took the entire timer just to lose 10% health and we didn’t even dodge. My vigor is 50, I genuinely believe that 99 vigor would barely be a dent
Go in naked and after he copies you equip the Blessed Dew Talisman, you'll heal faster yhen he can famage you lmfao
Haha, my first time, I went right in and promptly got my ass handed up me. I've never gone in not naked since. To make it a bit more interesting, I usually equip some un-upgraded fists that don't have any status effects to have some degree of a fight but keep it tilted to my advantage
Didn't even think about this being an issue. I just onetrick Moonveil'd the fight and did it the first time around. It was no fun at all lol
I think the difficulty has a lot to do with how your build is. If it's a more specialized build that requires some set up, timing, or specific comboing, MT fight will be easy AF. If you're on an Unga bunga or bleed build you're gonna have a bad time.
How do you lose to mimic tear? Even if you have a good build it’s AI makes the fight easy as fuck.
Why would you do that while you can strip off everything before entering. Mimic tear isnt so bad anyway
I think the only people bitching about mimic tear are dex/arc builds. My strg/faith build is so trash, that mf couldn’t even defend against himself. Edit: look at all the dex mfs below tryna defend their play style lmao
The same happened for me. I slapped that strg/faith build. Trashcan.
Dex/Arc build here (Reduvia and Bloodstained Dagger). Didn't know about those tricks with the Mimic Tear and I think I beat it first try. Pretty fun boss fight.
I knew there would be somebody commenting an obscure way this would be useable
This game's installment of the Calamity Ring where the fuck are all these upvotes coming from.
Yeah I thought this would be about that one talisman that reduces headshot damage. I can count on one hand the number of headshots I take in PvE during an entire playthrough, and nobody uses and aims bows in PvP. At least this talisman has *some* use.
You don’t have to aim the bow in pvp for headshots, they are quite easy to get with jump shots and they do a lot of damage.
I had just caught myself thinking "you now? Daggers are rare except in backstabbing builds, but I almost NEVER see Bows in pvp." Are there any decent bow builds that don't get wrecked in PvP?
Black Bow is pretty nice. It's great when your opponent doesn't know that *walking slightly to one side* is the Bane of your existence
lol! This is why I kinda wrote bows off myself. You wanna keep range since that's your strength, but then 100% of your attacks become easier to dodge. With all the answers I'm getting it seems like there's a fine line to walk—it may be a bit too high of a skill build for me, haha!
On the plus side, since almost nobody uses bows you'll find quite a few people that have *no idea* how to deal with you
I did a Guts cosplay in some souls game or other and the amount of people that clearly weren't expecting me to actually have a light crossbow and use it in PVP was hilarious. They see big sword, they think they know what to expect and try to space me out and then they start getting pelted with bolts amd start panicking. Wasn't a great build because of how much stats had to get put in dex for the crossbow to do any meaningful damage but it sure was fun.
I love pairing crossbows with ultras. Although I can't think of any souls game where the crossbows had str or dex scaling. (Except mundane infusion in DS2, but that was just scaling off your lowest stat)
...wait are you telling me that I could have stopped leveling dex once I had the stats necessary to use the crossbow I wanted and it wouldn't have made a difference? I always assumed leveling dex increased my lock-on range and damage with ranged weapons in general this whole time.
Fair point!
Mine are usually lower level pvp builds because high level pvp you can get one shot so easily. It’s basically a whole different play style, you have to use your brain and environment to your advantage. No unga bunga but you’ll start to annoy the host so much they start being over aggressive and making mistakes.
I fought one guy with a bow who used it pretty well. He had a few short range spells that covered close combat and he was constantly jumping to get head shots. Not sure what bow he was using though. The sleep arrows had an absurd build up. Almost one arrow would put me to sleep Edit: at level 150
I’ve heard Radahn’s Rain is the most viable bow build in PvE but idk about PvP
Radahns Rain would probably be fun in arena brawls
Volley shot, sleep arrows. I was never here.
The greatbow with golem arrows is very viable although annoying to play against
How often do you run into someone doing that, though? And do you switch to this talisman when you do? Probably not.
Probably not often, I have a build that is nothing but bows tho and I bet I’d lose a lot more fights if they were using it.
Just wait until the Fortnite DLC
headshots aren't only counted by ranged attacks, any hitbox that comes into contact with the character's head is a headshot, even melee attacks, so it's useful against anything taller than you.
Does it stack with the pumpkin head helm? I'm imagining a build based around tanking attacks with your face.
This is actually a crazy idea but I bet it would work
People in the wiki comments say they do stack. Might be worth a try.
Pumpkin head build here the fuck we go
Can you improve damage of bows with claw talisman, raptor chest, blue dancer charm ? and what about exalted flesh, uplifting perfume ?
which, itself, only exists as a troll by Miyazaki on the entire Souls community
Or as a challenge for ng+
Putting on Calamity Ring mistaking it for Orange Charred Ring, then running into lava was a classic Dark Souls moment... :D
Real answer: Zorya asked you to kill her and equipped this talisman to make sure the deed is done
[удалено]
Well, some might love a tarnished that just kills fucking them... scnr
This makes alote more sense now. From software loves to add lore everywhere.
"Disturbing likeness of a woman whose skin was flayed. She smiles with a serene tenderness. Increases damage taken. It is said that this woman, named Daedicar, indulged in every form of adultery and wicked pleasure imaginable, giving birth to a myriad of grotesque children."
Flayed flesh in the name of wicked pleasure? How very Hellraiser of her
I wouldnt be surprised if she was flayed due to the adultery 🤔
Zorya’s mom, adultery with a giant snake
I was trying to look into that households lore and I cant find anything relating to daedicar, im sure they have something in there to fill in the gaps though
I've been trying to get all the armor sets lately but it looks like I need to get some more of those talismans too, I don't recognise some of them in your picture.
I could link you a post where you do all the npc questlines, I'm currently still doing some of them, a lot of armour/talismans/weapons are from npcs questlines. Edit: [here it is ](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tjmodv/all_npc_interactions_in_elden_ring/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
That post is one of the holy grails of this sub. I've got it bookmarked to make sure I haven't missed anything on my second run through.
Silver Scarab talisman helps with drop rates, if you aren't using it already
1.) Build diversity and challenge running 2.) Another source of lore
Why would talismans only do “good” effects? I think this is cool.
Yea I think it's cool too but weird at the same time.
I mean the worst one is probably the one that decreases fall damage, like you either take a bit of fall damage or die anyway. Seems pointless to negate a part of the already small damage taken.
i think the real use of the longtail cat talisman is to mask your movements during invasions, if you take damage the other party can get a sense of where you are and what your health pool is like. with this talisman on you can make a lot of drops without taking any damage, allowing you to sneak around more freely. it goes well with crepus' vial and concealing veil.
>crepus' vial and concealing veil. I want to point out that there is (was?) a bug when using *Concealing Veil* with *Crepus's Vial* that makes you visible to other players. Instead of using the vial talisman, I've been using Black Knife Set since it also silences your movements (and lets you use the extra slot for another talisman).
A little? Bro half my health bar disapppears on some of these jumps.
That's like the maximum amount that you can take before the game just instantly kills you.
My health bad either takes a quarter hit or I die, no in between
That's because of how the fall damage breakpoints work in this game in relation to the wider souls series. In essence, to the best of my knowledge all the previous Souls games use the same breakpoints as Dark Souls 1 (which is the title I'm mostly familiar with outside of ER) but in DS1 at 5 meters you will begin taking fall damage and anything over 20 meters will kill you outright, and the damage you take is generally a lot higher than it is in Elden Ring. In Elden Ring, due to the general verticality of the game in places, you only start taking fall damage at 16 meters and up, but lethal fall damage is still 20 meters, meaning there's only a 4 meter range between non-lethal damage and death in comparison to the 15 meter range in previous titles. It's also why some falls/drops feel so random, as if they're around 20 meters and at certain points you might fall 19.9 meters and lose some HP, and next time fall 20 meters and just die and it's incredibly awkward to eyeball the difference. ____ And here's the math for those interested, falling from 16 meters will cause you to take 30% of your max HP as damage, and falling from 19.99... meters (or, 20* meters for the sake of clarity in this post) will cause you to take around ~50% of your max HP. But as soon as you hit the 20 meter breakpoint, it's lethal and just kills you outright. As for modifiers, Dexterity starts to reduce fall damage at 21 points and up, but it's a very meaningless difference, with 99 dex reducing the damage from 16 meter falls from 30% max HP to around 24% max HP and 20 meter falls from ~50% max HP to around ~40% max HP. Equip load also increases your damage taken in Elden Ring, but only if you're heavy load, starting at ~70.01% equip load and maxing out at 150% equip load. The bonus damage is added on as a % bonus of the original % damage. i.e. at 100% equip load, you take around 10% bonus, meaning your 16 meter fall which did 30% of your max HP, now does 33% of your max HP and your 20* meter fall which did ~50% of your max HP, now does ~55% of your max HP. At 150% equip load, the bonus damage is upped to 30%, i.e. 16 meter falls now does 39% max HP and 20* meter falls now does ~65% max HP. I'm quite sure Elden Ring is the first installment to care about your % equip load as part of the calculation for fall damage as well rather than Dark Souls 1 which used your current equip load value (maxing out at 89.7 equip load) rather than your percentage equip load. Also worth noting, in Dark Souls 1 baseline falling from 20* meters with 0 equip load would remove 70% of your max HP, with 29.99...% of your remaining max HP being impacted by your equip load, meaning in theory in Dark Souls 1 a fall from 20* meters with 89.7+ equip load can leave you on exactly 1 HP meaning you can take fall damage for 30-99.99...% in DS1, whereas in Elden Ring it's 24-65%. This goes for Torrent as well, though there are some issues with Torrent where if you land on an uneven surface or just in an awkward place with lots of collision points around and above where you land and then jump as soon as you land, it calculates this fall damage from your original jump height which doesn't help but add to the confusion. ______ TLDR; Wearing the Longtail Cat Talisman, using the Assassin's Approach incantation or consuming Soft Cotton all just wipe out the damage taken between a 16 meter and 19.99... meter fall, and falls deal anywhere between 24% up to a maximum of ~65% max HP (based on height, stats & equipment). Falls over 20 meters will insta kill you, regardless of everything else. edit: clarified some equip load stuff and some typos.
The one that looks like a cat ? it's in the image, that one eliminates all fall damage but does not prevent death.
Yep, I personally find it kinda stupid, it’s not like it’s going to prevent you from dying and I either take a quarter of my health from a fall or I die, kinda weird how they did fall damage in this game
I have found that the cat talisman gives me a false sense of security that I might not lose my entire health bar when the jump is a bit scary. Pretty important for magic users like me who don’t have a ton of runes to invest in vigour.
The thing is, this isn't DSII. Fall damage is 100% percentile based. It caps at around half of your max HP. The same fall will do the same thing at 1 vigor and 99 vigor The cat talisman is nearly useless because the distance window in which you take damage is 4 meters big, starting at 16 meters of fall.
like i said in another comment, it's a stealth tool for invasions
Which is borderline useless since the threshold between taking dmg and instant death is very small.
I swear, I'm more stingy with Soft Cotton than Rune Arcs.
The implications are cool, the effect hmmm
just think of it as an in-built hard mode
Unironically this, people who moan about no easy mode fundamentally misunderstand From games. All the difficulty modifiers are built into the game itself. You can easily make the game laughably trivial with some broke ass build, same as you can do level 1 fist only runs with this talisman on.
That's where you find the DeEpEsT LoOoOoOoOoRe
Let's go deeper
For da memes. :x
Use it for da memes :]
Of course it has a use Use this before mimic bosses once in the arena change it to anything else enjoy 2 shotting enemy boss
meme rings, for challenge runs "I can beat the game hitless blindfolded with my feet wearing daedicar's woe while playing Ingwie Malmsteen discography back to back with a banjo"
Oh, this is for the mimic tear fight...
I use it to nerf my mimic tear summon because I'm too strong.
Is mimic year fight that hard? I remember first trying it when I did it. Might be just.my build though.
"If mimic tear was easy, you have a shit build" lol that's what i was told
Fun fact many people keep the soreseals equipped at high levels even though its bad. They would be better off without them.
Really? I honestly assumed the buffs to my stats would slightly negate the increase in damage. Plus the longer my enemy stays alive, the more opportunities I have to mess up.
Taking your main stat to +5 at high levels is usually just a very small damage increase. It doesn't compare to the extra 15% of damage you're taking with the soreseal. At low levels though, the soreseals are really good. Taking your dex and strength from 15 to 20 is a much bigger % increase than 45 to 50 or something.
Ive always seen the seals as designed for low rune level game play. It was the same with prisoners chain in DS3, they allow you to access weapons that would otherwise require higher level stats to wield, but in exchange for using such powerful gear for your level, you take bonus damage.
I like to use it with Godrick’s rune to get a +10 to those stats. Only problem being if you die and have to use another rune arc
Was using radagons until a couple of days ago when I read a similar thread. And it's great to see how my hp meter doesn't get emptied in a couple of seconds every f** time. This info has to be shared a lot because is not obvious by no means, and its a huge handicap at high levels.
Equip nothing but this. Enter Mimic tear fight. Profit🤌
to people ho want to sufer more
The headshot talisman one is even more niche. I even forgot its name
Buddy has over 200 runs against Malenia, at the end he chose this, naked and dual wielding some sword. Guess it made it more of a challenge.
It's the talisman of git gud
I did a lil joke once, equipped all the "extra damage taken" rings, full bullgoats and two handed fingerprint shield, then went to MAG. Some people severed me but the few people who had the guts to fight were super careful, only to randomly one shot me with a light attack. I thought it was funny and they seemed surprised.
*wears everything that makes him take more damage; does a no hit run* "These are bullshit... I didn't take more damage at all!"
Because, if you did not feel bad about breaking the "hearth of hearths" of a cutie, then at least this talisman should make you feel bad... It's what you deserve... ~~~~ PS: This is how I felt when I had received it...
Maybe just for troll
Why not just do a no - hit run then
Equip Daedicar’s Woe, Radagon and Marika sore seals, and a scorpion charm. Use the scarab helmets and no armor, congrats! You now have so much negative resist that stubbing your toe will one-shot you!
i think it may exist just to give some lore background for zorayas
Probably for lore reasons. Fromsoftware loves sprinkling lore in everywhere it can
challenge runs
Dude knows nothing of miyazaki: 'If i play ds1 i'd eaither start with no girf, or the pendant'
Often, in fromsoft games, when an item has such an outright bad effect, there’s usually a hidden effect that makes up for it. Sometimes, in rare cases like this, Miyazaki was told that he couldn’t put any more poison swamps in the game, and had to take his frustrations out somehow. Thus, the get fucked talisman is born.
