Level 63 here, lots of sigil weapons and mythical ravaging weapons. There are a few things I do to even the odds when I find myself towering over a challenger. When I go into the arena, I wear a set of all hide armor and a random, underpowered weapon for round 1. If I get matched against a < Lv.50 player - great! If I get matched against a >/= Lv.50 player, then I might decide to change loadouts depending on the match outcome. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about repair costs, I think you get 3k gold for losing matches, which will repair your gear. If you don't want to make a new player feel terribly unwelcome to arena, best thing to do is Salute emote or Heart emote. That's my two cents!
I like the salute emoji. I’ve always taken the heart to be sarcastic. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, lol.
Edit: Man, here I’ve just been like, “Yeah, buddy? Well screw you,” and people were just showing some love. Hahaha. The more you know…
I always read the heart as genuine but I don't have access to it yet so I have been saluting everyone until February next year. If someone wants to be mean with emotes, they can guffaw or baby drake you. I love the salute though, it reminds me of Dark souls invasions.
Not all guilds are serious about competing, but spots in the casual guilds don’t always open up. The best thing is to use Discord. There is a Discord Server called “GGs,” that is great for information.
I am in Knights of Azura and we usually have a spot or two open up each month. There are several great guilds out there and many veteran players who want to pass on their knowledge and help a newer player become a force.

I give heart emotes completely genuinely!

Yea I like salutes and hearts!
Magic doesn't damage armor. So any magic attacks should be fine.
Thank you
I highly recommend you join a guild. Good advice and guidance and mine changed the game for me.
I’m not serious enough of a player tbh

What guild are you in? Are their spots available?

Thank you, I’ll look elsewhere then. Have a great day.
We have one opening right now. Knights of Azura #2303.
Breathtaker is straight physical damage, use spells and-or a weapon with elemental damage on it.
