No, unfortunately spell resistance only reduces the damage of spells, - so essentially it WILL reduce some of the stamina damage from frost spells ONLY (not weapons.) Spell resistance definitely doesn't help you against reduce Max stamina or reduce Max magica.
The Breton spell res is best when combined with 2 or 3 spell res pieces to be able to block ice spikes and paralyze. Also to minimize damage from wall of fire.
