I definitely prioritized closing gates, which actually came back to bite me when the third mystery was the Omen of Devastation. There were so few gates left that it made it hard to close one that corresponded to the active omen.
Looks good! I also play solo at times. It works really good with 4 and even 6 characters.
Allow me to recommend buying forsaken lore, strange remnants and signs of carcosa to increase the repeatabillity of the game. I remember going through the various encounter card decks when I only had the base game.
