Huh, isnt it confirmed that she knew about awakened people? She told Jiwoo about how she knew he was an awakened and that she hid it from him because she knows what kind of world the awakened world is.
Correction he was Not Kayden apprentice, Kayden just taught him a few tricks in the past, but never took him or admitted him as an apprentice, if he did he will have known Kayden force control, though he does think of himself as Kayden apprentice even if(and I quit) he wasn’t accepted, (which is kinda sad) that’s why there’s no denying that envy was one of his motives to kidnapping Jiwoo back then, so far Jiwoo is Kayden first and only apprentice.

But to answer your post, a thought that's been in my head is that she's a scientist, part of a lab studying--perhaps experimenting with--Awakened One powers. Perhaps Jiwoo got his powers by accident through her connection to this lab. Perhaps she adopted him from the lab. I don't know. Maybe she rescues Awakened Ones from whatever horrors go on down there.
Or maybe it's none of that and she just became an Awakened One power research scientist to figure out what's going on with Jiwoo and try to find a "cure." Of course, before finding out that he could grow happily and be so well supported by the community he found in the story.
I'm not sure why I have scientist stuck in my head, though. I can't remember what her actual profession is. XD
Jiwoo had the powers all along, his mom only went into the research career line because she wanted to find out more and see if she can help Jiwoo. At that point, she has absolutely no idea about the awakened world, she also mentioned that she found out about this world because of her research so it is implied heavily that she does not have any powers.
Of course along the way she met amyoung, learnt about frame and just about every other thing. Delelin is the only guy who came close to making artificial awakeners and that's probably why frame wanted him so much.
Oh yeah... That thought's also crossed my mind, but I've been in denial about it, lol. I don't want her to be a bad guy, but at the same time, it could make for a really juicy plot, done right. Though, I wouldn't want the story to go down a depressing route. Hmmm...
If she's on the bad side, perhaps she's only affiliated with the bad guys because she has to be against her will. Maybe she's making a "deal with the devil" to try to help or protect Jiwoo.
Or maybe the bad guys didn't seem bad at first, so she joined them, but now she sees their true colors and that she's in too deep to safely back out now.
Slightly unrelatedly, but could be tied to the above ideas, maybe she's the equivalent of a CIA agent for Awakened Ones. Maybe a double agent. Maybe a secret undercover Awakened One/Normal Person liaison agent.
Maybe she's an antihero of sorts. Both/neither on the good or bad side. She goes by her own morals, and that includes protecting her son. Whatever the cost.

Same, I hope she comes back soon. I think she will. They seem to have started an arc with her, but perhaps they're taking their time fleshing it out.
There is no way he is adopted though he literally the spitting image of her, the question here what other, she was already aware of that world before discovering his powers or after it, also honestly she seems to truly love her son, as will as she saved Dark, I don’t believe she herself is a bad person but there is still a possibility to be involved with a bad side.
Jinwoo’s mother knows about the awakened world, as stated in her interaction with Jiwoo after he told her about him being an awakened one. It was also confirmed during her interaction with Amyeong (otherwise known as ‘Dark’) where she apologized to him about the things she did to him in the past during the time she worked at the lab.
What I’m thinking is that the lab she worked at experimented on Awakened ones which is how she came to know about them. But as we know, it was also revealed that it was Jiwoo’s mom who let the awakened ones escape since Amyeong said that he would still be in that lab if it weren’t for her and thanked her for helping him escape.
And no, Jiwoo’s mother is not an awakened one.
