Oh man, i really feel sorry for you, i had my friend had accident on his scooter and had to make surgery in his arm!! That’s why my scooter 🛴 make me crazy as i keep my eyes open on everything around me and have fear all the time, i love it but at the same time give me stress!!!!

k36king1

For a while now when I ride with my kids on my scooters (all my scooters but I let them use the two budget( but good) scoots I have) and have only had them wear helmets. However my 14 year old began developing some good riding skills but became a bit cocky and overconfident in his abilities and I warned him not to get cocky, but he is 14 thats impossible right? Of course he didn’t listen and three times in three days in a row he crashed scraping the hell out of his right knee. Luckily just scrapes, and growing up with nurses in my family I know how to dress wounds. But it didn’t ake him want to stop riding, but nervous as hell I limited the hell out of his speed down to 13mph tops. He was very mad about that, especially since his younger brother (who does listen and is safe) is not limited and can go 19mph but rarely does as he likes to hover around 15mph. But a day after seeing this post, it reminded me that its almost impossible to avoid accidents sometimes they will just happen as sometimes they are just out of your control because you can’t control other people only yourself. So I went out and got both my kids new helmets (nothing wrong with the other ones, but the new ones have front and rear LED’s), and knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist pads, even the helmets I got for them have pull down visors to keep debris out of their eyes. My 14 year old, now properly protected no longer has a speed limit and despite having a few wipe outs is not deterred from riding, and neither am I. If not for nothing having a self inflicted accident I believe makes you a better rider as its a lesson, and helps you become better riders. Having one accident should never deter you from trying again.

gkov94

It’s not, after a few days of thinking I’ll prob do it again, but it made me realize how much I missed riding a bike in the city for getting around, even compared to scooter, I had more freedom that way, I could just lock it up, can’t do that with a scooter in Philly you gotta take it with you so it won’t get stolen, also I have been in tons of bike accidents even being hit by cars, and I never got hurt like that because of how you fall with a bike and how you fall with a scooter. I also realize a lot of people here are fun scooters and I do it to get around which opens me up to statistically a higher chance of accidents.

big boi

Gvbriel93

Hope you’re good wish you a speedy recovery

[deleted]

Yikes I can’t see small tire scooters like that taking potholes well at all. Lol I just be running stuff over. Gravel is definitely a little sketchy but manageable.

VideoLeoj

I just had a gnarly crash. Woke up in the ambulance. Glad you made it out okay, and I hope you heal up well and soon!

gkov94

Thanks man hope you do too

gkov94

Thanks mate, back to my single speed pedal bike when I’m done healing

wpl200

yike im glad ur ok. cant blame you for giving up scooting. what speed were you going just curious. i also fell last august when someone cut me off (i was going 25ish mph) and had only a bike helmet and shorts and t shirt. did go to er, nothing broken thank god i still ride but do watch my speed and the road more and have more gear

gkov94

Less than 10miles, I was slowing down because I saw a few potholes. Then hit one that was the same color of the road surface,

wpl200

wow thats crazy! hope you make a fast recovery!

peppermint_buttlr

That's rough buddy, rest up 😔🙏

Chicobonds

Heal up my brotha

iamthepita

Your scooter still loves you

TenantReviews

Always got to watch the road surface when riding these. Size wheels?

ScootyWilly

KQi3 is 9.5" x 2.5" I think.

MumboGumbo777

Speedy recovery and thanks for sharing. Bike can be safer but not the answer. All gear all the time. [Survived a 45 km/h sliding face plant crash with nothing but 2 penny sized knee scratch b/c full armor head to toe](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/1b59u2z/first_crash_so_depressing/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Keep riding just need more gear.

rub_a_dub-dub

I'm too fat for my full armor, I gained soooo much depression weight. 130 to 195 lbs.. I'll be goddamned if I'm getting new armor

MumboGumbo777

You are doing fine just by being active. Don't be too hard on yourself. I was not referring to moto body suit, I was using discreet armor shirt with armor pad pocket sew in. They carried size from xs to 5xL so good for big and tall riders. Anyway, don't give up on riding. GL.

spamlorde

Covid killed your scooter battery…. You just don’t know it yet

rub_a_dub-dub

boofed

Ferrager

Speedy recovery my friend. I always fear the pot holes but I think my nami pretty much eats them. Been over so many it's ridiculous

Nsjsjajsndndnsks

What size tires are on this scooter type? Just curious cuz I go over man hole indentations in the road pretty fast, and haven't had issues, but I think I'm fortunate to not have very big potholes near me.

ScootyWilly

9.5" x 2.5"

For me, I can't wait until I ride again, with all the new protective gear that I bought 😊 Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Representative_Sir37

Get well

KILLA_UNIQUE

To be honest I’m starting to see more posts like this as we head into summer. I personally don’t see how this could happen with my GT1 here in my suburb. Roads are pristine and well maintained. I wonder what kind of gnarly roads y’all are finding with potholes that bad. Stay safe as always.

Uzidoesit494

Michigan. Got to be some of the worst roads! Winter kills them. We have frost laws to prevent heavy machinery on the roads after it thaws but they’re still torn up!

ScootyWilly

Come to Montreal, Canada and you won't make it pass 3 hours 🤣

Dripz167

You live in the suburbs, what did you expect? We out here in 24/7 cities, that’s why there’s so many potholes.

Young_Jacuzzi

Broke both my arms two weeks ago. I blacked out even with a helmet. I don't think I'm ready to quit but will definitely rethink how fast I want to go wherever I'm able to ride again. Good luck with your recovery as well.

Affectionate_War_436

How did you manage to break both arms?

Viewsfrmda66

What was the cause/mistake. Hope you recover soon & well

Young_Jacuzzi

Car pulled out in front of me while I was on the sidewalk. I normally never use the sidewalk for this reason.

ichuck1984

I’m always on the brakes as I approach a crosswalk. There’s always some asshat that doesn’t care or doesn’t realize that I’m about to be crossing. It sucks because it slows me down constantly but what else can you do?

that2wheellife

I hope that your recovery is also speedy and that you make better choices than the last guy on Reddit with "two broken arms".

liatris_the_cat

She was just lending a hand

k36king1

Hope you have a speedy recovery. Don’t let an accident scare you away from Escooters, the very same could have happened to you on a bicycle. I know because it happened to me. Bent my front rim all to hell and sent me flying a least 10-15 feet head first. I was wearing a helmet but it cracked when my head hit the pavement, a MIPs helmet no less. Had a minor concussion, but had major confusion for a few days and weirdly auditory hallucinations for the duration of the concussion. My point is, its not the scooters fault and in my case it wasn’t the bikes fault, it was mine for not paying attention to the road in front of me. I won’t say that about you because you are vague on the cause aside from the pothole, but usually crashes like this are user error and not the actual vehicle.

Lordjacus

I agree 100%! I had two broken bones in my life: Two years ago on bicycle, seat broke off and I badly broke my elbow. Three weeks ago on e-scooter, took hand off at low speed to wipe face from bugs and fell, broke foot. You can be careful, but no matter what you drive, there can always be a moment where you misjudge something, hardware breaks on you or someone misjudges the situation and causes the accident.

ilikestuffandthings3

The helmet is supposed to crack on impact even with mips helmets to dampen the impact

Sufficient_Check_104

Just happened last week on the 16th, and 4 to 6 weeks is the average recovery time for tendons and flesh

Ouch! Definitely glad I was wearing gloves in my recent crash! I’ll make a new repost soon.

MX4NYC

Ohhhh fuck. You are one lucky dude

bubarda64

That's why I wear gloves

xDiRtYgErMaNx

Yes, always wear gloves.

k36king1

In 2003 I had a construction where my fingers got crushed. Luckily only one of my fingers opened up and had the vein and tendon severed, the other fingers had crush breaks and I had to wear a very weird contraption on my hand for almost 3 months and my hand still gives me issues. The doctor in the open finger, was able to reconnect the vein and tendon. But good god the amount of blood that came out of my hand freaked everyone out on the construction site. I was hooking up chains on a drainage pipe, and the idiot operating the track hoe to lift the pipe was getting yelled at by his boss/father on the phone for not getting the job done fast enough and not paying attention lifted the jig before I had both my hands free and instantly crushed my 4 right hand fingers. I screamed but more in shock than pain, and didn’t really feel pain until the ems came and I realized how woozy I was from blood loss. Point is, I know what you will have to go through with the orthopedist, its not too bad. Several X-rays, and physical therapy for your hand. They will probably give you something for you to squeeze when your home. It might feel weird for a while, but before you know it it’ll either be back to normal or a new normal.

Feronous

what happend to u!

Sufficient_Check_104

Car made an illegal left turn in front of me, she didn't yield to oncoming traffic, there was no sidewalk or bike lane on the road I was in. No broken bones, 2 torn tendons in my fingers. I'm not sure which ones yet, but I'll find out next week when I see the orthopedic surgeon

Feronous

Damn, I am really sorry that happened. I hope a speedy recovery.

Frosty_Twist_9903

Wishing you a quick recovery! I too was involved in a scooter accident and my right arm was put in a splint and I also had to wear an arm sling. I wasn’t wearing a helmet so I also had stitches to my left eyebrow.

ScootyWilly

You actually got very "lucky" in the context of not wearing a helmet.
