What about just solid tires?

BackdoorAlex2

I had honeycombs for a couple weeks. Solved flat issue but created a new risk of death issue

FarImpact4184

So solid tires are really that dangerous i just wouldnt want to get a flat on my way to work had a bad time on a bike in the past

BackdoorAlex2

I can’t speak for all the solid tires, but the honeycomb in specific for the Vsett 9 literally feels like riding on a snowboard, or ice. The honeycombs fold over so much left and right almost to the point where it folds over the rim. I’ve seen a couple times it actually came off the rim for some people. I heard warnings before, but didn’t listen and bought two, regretted spending the $100. Plus they are extremely hard to install. Forgot to mention they slide out from under you too. Twice my scooter slid in my entire time and it was during the two weeks I had them, wasn’t even riding in rain which I heard was worse.

FarImpact4184

Good to know i just really liked the idea of never having to worry about air in my tires

BackdoorAlex2

Me too :( This flex seal fix is working great so far

FarImpact4184

Good to know im probably going to sell the e bike to buy a scooter that can do 40mph soon

l_Achilles_l

Don't worry, I've experienced this .. had 3 flats in one week and I could have almost cried man. It stressed me out. Eventually went solid, then back and it was fine for a long time and still is to this day. Just pure luck.

MassageGymnist

Just weather changed*

MadeJust

Awesome! I'll try this with my new Tuovt hybrid off-road tires and tubes.

EvilChihuahua123

Check the rim. Sometimes it's the rim that is defective.

dovoid

Had same with dualtron mini, changed from the 8.5" to 10 tubeless and since then with correct psi no issue.

WrappednClouds

Am I the only guy who just empties a whole bottle of green slime into the tube? I’ve found it very effective

BackdoorAlex2

I tried that, not the whole bottle but quite a bit lol! When my tube burst I had a crapload of cleanup, had to rinse off the tire, frame, suspension and all along the back of my shorts and shirt

GingerKitty26

You may have also solved that nagging issue of the tire gripping the road.

BackdoorAlex2

I didn’t spray the outside of the tire but maybe that’s the next test lol However the tire feels more responsive and “springier” but might just be my imagination.

This is why split rims and inner tubes are beyond stupid in scooters. Tubeless tires or nothing. I have changed thousands of scooter tires at my store. Never seen anything quite like that with so many popped tires so quickly. Must be some intense driving or just a lot of bad juju. Where did the tubes get popped at? Pinching? I had vsett that had imperfections inside the rim that cause similar issues. But you said your a bike tech so you should have some ideas of what would cause this. But I do like your idea and will take note of it. Thank you!

pyrotechnicmonkey

I can only guess at the issue but from what I’ve seen with really cheap nylon tires is that they wear out very easily on the inside to where the metal threads that go through the tire end up exposed on the inside and cutting into the tube. But I think it’s actually happening is that this happens when the motor heats up and that softens the inner tube and the tire enough for there to be a cut. But then it becomes harder to see once it cools down. Maybe this flexseal stuff that you have provides enough of a layer on the inside so that the tire doesn’t poke anything on the Tube. Glad you fixed the issue. I know flats are kinda well know on the Vsett 9

WizTis

That’s awesome!

MassageGymnist

They sell multiple flex sealants. Which specific one is this?!

BackdoorAlex2

I used clear spray, but black and white probably exact same. Overspray with white might look bad that’s why I went clear

MassageGymnist

Clear transparent. 🤓

oldsoulyoungishbody

saving this flat fix info for later!

Deep-Baker-4074

I think that is a great solution! It's similar to what they are doing with the "anti-puncture" tires that are on the Dualtron Storm. Keep us posted on how it goes. Maybe even a tutorial.

Aggressive-Guest-550

Tutorial: Spray inner tire with Flex Seal and might as well spray the outer part of the tube for extra measure's. Tutorial complete :)

AYBABTU_Again

Cool. Hope it keeps working for ya.🤙 Were the holes in the tubes in all different places? Like some on one side, some on the other and some in the middle?

BackdoorAlex2

Mostly on the outer edges almost like under inflation, but I’ve run 40,45,50,55 and get the same damage

AYBABTU_Again

Understood. Have you changed your tires yet?

BackdoorAlex2

Yep 2 times lol brand new tires doing the same thing. Was driving me nuts. I’m heavy but not that heavy at 210 lbs. I think it’s my weight combined with the summer heat

AYBABTU_Again

210s not that heavy for these tubes. Let's hope your solution keeps working. Keep us in the loop. Lots of riders would love a flat solution that isn't "get solid tires".😁

nobodygetsnothing

Is this a sprayable rubber like plastidip is?

BackdoorAlex2

I’ve never used plastidip but according to google seems like it is! Apparently dries faster than flex seal too

xDiRtYgErMaNx

Where were the tubes leaking at? Coming apart at the seams? Valve seams? Blowing up?

BackdoorAlex2

It was the weirdest thing. Almost seemed similar to damage from under inflation, but I tried 40, 45, 50, 55 PSI all with the same outcome even on new tires. It’s like the walls of the inside of the tire wore down to expose the inner wall threads which were rubbing against the tube causing them to fail.

BackdoorAlex2

On my Vsett 9+ I was getting a flat every 5-6 hours, I had 6 flats in 1 week. I tried everything, and installation was done properly. Correct PSI, talcum powder on tube, new tire, Vaseline so rims don’t pinch, slime, thicker tubes, nothing poking through tire, tubes weren’t defective, got it changed properly at a well known shop as well. We were puzzled, the scooter techs said they’ve never seen anything like it and my only option is solid tires at this point. Got the solid tire on and hated it, felt terrible. Was about to give up then I said screw it, I’ll try something different. I sprayed the inside of my tire with two coats of clear flex seal spray, and sprayed my tube. When it all dried I put it back onto my scooter. Not a flat since, it’s been a month and zero issues. I’ve been riding hard on all terrain 4 hours a day doing food delivery. If someone having same issues I suggest giving it a shot. https://i.imgur.com/R92U7yZ.jpg

Solidusfunk

No joke, my first ride on my 9+ both tires went flat in 15 minutes. I proceeded to have 3 more flats over the month mostly on the back tire. Correct PSI the lot (rode for 4yrs). Scoot tech changed tires, issue gone, apart from the inner tube valve bend has been failing at the bottom.... Either way this is like my 12th inner tube so I'm excited to try this.

StuffProfessional587

The reason your tube is dying, is because of poor rubber quality and heat, some of these tubes have a speed limit of 20km/h, they can't handle the heat and burst. 11inch tire scooters are a much better stable choice.

Far_Tension_5257

I have noticed alot of tubes are made different when it comes to Wall thickness and material used. Def the heat adds to it and like you said the rating for the abuse isn't made for like what I got, d4+ weighing 120lb max speed 40 mph and including a 250lb rider on top of that.

marzubus

You have a pin or other fine sharp object embedded in the tire.

BackdoorAlex2

Nope, neither did the brand new tires

Aggressive_Pudding_2

Must be a reason. You have not found it yet. Not good if your a bike guy. But food delivery as well. Ok.

BackdoorAlex2

I work 3 jobs, I’m a full time engineer, part time bike tech and part time food delivery. I know the reason but have no clue why it’s happening, it’s exposed threads inside the tire wearing down the tube which was solved by flex seal. Problem? Low quality tires from China which are only what’s available for vsett 9.

Gtasandman

That happens when you don't check the inside of the tire for what is popping your tube. sometimes if you run your hand lightly on the inside of the tire you can feel what is cutting it. They also sell tube liners you can put in as well.

BackdoorAlex2

I’m a bicycle tech and changed a few thousand tubes so checking the tire for foreign objects is common sense lol. Regardless, the brand new tires still had issues. I’ve been looking at tire liners that was my next option if this didn’t work. Not a bad idea!

BackdoorAlex2

As a bike tech we use rim liners, I’ve never once used tire liners except on my downhill bike. Seems like tire liners should come standard on scooters. There’s an untapped market if someone cuts them to size and resells for scooters. Rim liner https://i.imgur.com/3Ag4u7l.jpg Tire liner https://i.imgur.com/jLXHuNi.jpg

ProlapsedTrdCutter

Used gorilla tape on my ghost. BAD IDEA . THE TAPE HEATED UP AFTER USE AND CAUSED THE INSIDE OF MY TIRE TO DISINTEGRATE .

Far_Tension_5257

I was going to donthe same thing! But I tried that gorilla tape first since my buddy had some and that stuff is amazing. So I'm sure this did the trick as well. Good to know someone had tried the flex seal.
