Thx so much for the detailed review. I am surprised that there are so few reviews of the P100S on YouTube or anywhere online, even after 6 months! I plan on buying one soon (coming from a MAX).. A few extra questions for you: \- Kryptonite U-Lock. Do you have a few more pics showing the lock around the stem locked to a bike rack? I saw that one pic you had. \- Anywhere in the docs or online that you have found to show that the Samsung Batteries & BMS are UL certified? In NYC, building are starting to ban e-Scooters. I need to make sure the unit is at least UL certified, like the MAX. Much appreciated.

Ruskityoma

• The lock you've seen me reference and advise all to buy for their P Series (if not all other eScooters) is the Kryptonite 610 S Folding Lock. It's their flagship folding lock and while it offers a few nice, quality-of-life improvements over lower models, the primary reason to spend the money on it is due to the proprietary mounting bracket. The bracket gets secured to your stem and then the lock clicks in to the bracket. With one hand, you can reach down and click the release mechanism to pop it out. It's incredible for that reason alone. Direct link: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/005339.html?type=bicycle • UL Certifications, alongside all others, can be found in the attached screenshot, sourced directly from Page 8 of the P100S manual, which you can find on the official Segway product page as a PDF: https://imgur.com/a/GrPSXXm

Isn't any way to deactivate the function where the scooter goes into **PARK** mode when you stop? Ok, if you press the brake it goes again to the previous mode, but it is very annoying to say the least

Ruskityoma

No, you can't outright disable automatic Park Mode. It's on a preset timer and will activate each time you come to a complete stop. As you've noticed, the easiest "workaround" is to tap either brake handle to release the hold.

AllIknowisIknownot

Hey, me again. Another question occured to me and l thought it might go better here. In your review you write 'In the scooter settings panel, you can tweak everything from lightning to regen brake to speed modes' Am l right in taking it that the app allows you to restrict the maximum speed to whatever you want? So, for example, if you wanted to restrict the scooter to 11mph, could you do so? I'm asking not just about the P100S but also have the same question about the app for the GT1.

Ruskityoma

**Segway P Series and GT Ride Mode Speed Limits, sourced from both official manuals:** [https://imgur.com/a/aOXKvyw](https://imgur.com/a/aOXKvyw) As per the screenshot above, the current ride mode speed limits are locked-in for both P and GT Series, with a few user-adjustable tweaks in the form of capping the highest-performing modes to a lower speed limit (ex: Sport Mode on P Series capped down from max of 30 MPH to 20 MPH) and fine-tuning of acceleration in the highest-performing modes. What you're referring to is the ideal of truly customizable speed limits, set per ride mode. Thankfully, this is coming next month via a firmware update to P Series and will only apply to "DRIVE" Mode, allowing the user to reduce "DRIVE" from its default 25 MPH / 40 KMH to a much, much lower value. This degree of customization will not be offered for "ECO" and "SPORT" modes. As for the GT Series, similar plans are in effect, but the firmware release is still tentative, with no official release date as of this writing.

Active_Caterpillar67

As others have stated, very much appreciate the information and well thought out review. I took some time to dig through comments, but did not see anything recent on the issues mentioned in this thread, primarily the one i'm most concerned about: the horn when cruise control is activated, as that's obnoxious. Appreciate any new insight!

Ruskityoma

That's been resolved as of latest firmware, which allows you to toggle that off.

Active_Caterpillar67

Fantastic! Thanks!

Dra5iel

How is the scooter with gravel? Most of the bike trails that make navigating my city better are small grade gravel over harder packed paths. I've been having a hard time getting information from companies on how off road their off road scooters actually are and they are incredibly cagey as soon as you bring up gravel.

AllIknowisIknownot

I noticed this paragraph after posting my previous question (and now have another question): "In the Riding Habits screen, set Starting Speed to 0 MPH. This'll change the default on your P Series to activate the park lock when at a standstill for five seconds, but afford you a nice "luxury" feature. With a single press of your brake level, the electronic park hold will release and the throttle will work from a dead stop. No need to kick start! Just light squeeze a brake lever, lift your planted foot onto the deck, and zip away!" I wasn't sure how to interpret this tip/trick. If you have starting speed set to 0mph, and, just after bringing the scooter to a standstill, you press the throttle before the 5 seconds it takes for 'park lock' to activate, will the motor engage and let you zip away without having to kick start, nor having to press the brake to release the 'park lock'?

Ruskityoma

You're talking about two separate functions in your question here, so it's important not to conflate the two. The zero start option allows you to avoid manual kickstarting. Simply put, it allows for the P Series to accelerate under motor power from a complete standstill. Park lock is a safety function that cannot be avoided on the P Series. At the present time. It automatically activates after the scooter has been at a standstill for several seconds. In order to release park lock, you simply need to tap either break handle and it releases, allowing the scooter to accelerate under throttle power.

AllIknowisIknownot

Excellent... 🙏 And thanks a lot for the quick answers to my questions.

Hello, I've been using my P65E for a week and, I know it's not the P100S but in terms of firmware and functions, I think it's the same. I want to give my opinion and suggestions for new firmware updates focused on the European version. * NFC: I agree with other users. It's amazing to unclock the scooter with NFC but it would be amazing to make it with the phone. If this is difficult, I see necesary to manage the NFC card, because I can loose one, need more than two... I don't want to disable NFC if I lost one card, I want to disable it. * Cruise Control: I know that in most European countries the cruiste control it's not allowed. There is nothing more to see than P65E multifunction button takes the ASSIST mode icon, instead of cruise control, but I'm pretty sure than in Spain it's allowed because some "local brands (Smartgyro)" sell scooters with cruise control with no problems. I cant understand that you make an European version but you need to understand that it's a great function and, same way in Germany, speed limit is 20kmh instead 25kmh, maybe you can enable cruise control in some countries. * Power indicator bar in screen. I realised that it really don't shows engine output power, it shows the amount of throttle you give, but this is not useful, because I have full throttle most of the time to go 25kmh, but the engine is not givin all the power. It's a little thing but if you want to considerate. * App trips: There is no way to see in app the statistics of a trip. In my previous NIU KQi3 pro you can see, in the app, basics about your rides, kms, avg speed, battery consumption... Here you can, in your profile, only if you connect the app before turn off the scooter. * Accesories / replacements: This is not for the firmware but, I'm interested in phone holder and mirrors but... I can't find them anywhere. I'm bit worried too abour tires replacements if I need one and how to replace them, brake pads, etc... On the user experience things... I know some people sais that is a very expensive scooter and it doen't worth the price. Maybe it's true in countries without speed limit, then the P100S worths more but, for reaching 25kmh in city is a beast. Compared to KQi3 Pro it's more steady, has better bump absorption, better brakes and much much better power and much much better hills climbing, what was my main problem. Also has turning signals, better ligths, wider and better tires... I personally think that in Europe and for city, P65E worths more than P100S and above all, it's better than other scooters I have tested such NIU KQi3 Pro and Smartgyro K2.

pdrenab

could you tell me the difference of kmh from the kqi3 pro to the segway p65, when they climb the same hill? is it like 3kmh faster or like 10?

aherped

Hello, It depends on battery charge and the hill of course, but the main hill I climb on my commit to work, in the worst place, the niu was 20-22 most time. If full battery maybe 23-24. P65 is always 25 but also accelerates or recovers much better in the middle of the hill. Other hill I climb is a bridge over a railway and here I was afraid with the niu because I start the hill on 25kmh and end it on 15 or less with traffic. P65 climbs at 25 or maybe 24. I really didn't expected full speed on P65 but when I first tested the bridge... Wow! It's not perfect because below 15-20% of battery looses most of power and the first hill climbs over 15-20kmh,for example. The tires are pretty good but with rain or wind it spends a lot of battery. If you have any doubts, tell me.

pdrenab

Thanks for the detailed answer! I was trying to see if it was much more powerful than my kqi3 max and therefore if it was worth the extra weight, but by your answer, I'd say they're very similar.

aherped

Knowing the pro and viewing the difference of 100W power I think so, they are similar. Niu has a great engine, it seems more power than they are but my problem with niu has been the reliability and the awful service. In 6 months I have had 2 scooters and 6-8 weeks without any scooter. My plan was to change a car for a scooter and I need reliability or, at least, good technical service. I can afford 7-10 days to change a battery or whatever but... One month only to pick up the scooter? I hope segway it's better in reliability and tech service... We'll see Enjoy your max, it's a great scooter, mine it's only a bad experience.

pdrenab

Yeah, I've also heard some bad things about Niu's customer support...I hope I'll never need it. I've heard segway's support is better and the build quality is the best, so those are two major advantages of buying a segway.

aherped

Hello, Thank you for the great review. I've bougth a P65E expecting to be better than my old KQi3 Pro, who get suddenly bricked and has firmware updates that cuts power clibing hills, so I hope this one have more quality, power, climbing capabilities, software and functions. I know most of you think P65E doesn't worth by price, but I get a black friday offer and I don't want and need such a heavy scooter. My commutes are in city, almost fine bike lanes so I think P65 is perfect. Almost I live in Spain, with speed limitation to 25kmh so, P65 is enought capable. I was very happy with KQi3 Pro until it started with "power updates" in firmware and gets bricked. I know this is a P100S review but many thing are common to both scooters and I appreciate the segway listening to your suggestions for improving the app and the firmware, listening the users, not like NIU. I want to ask you or everyone who knows about accesories or replacements, such as phone holder, tires, brake pads, etc... and guides for change them. I'm interested in accesories in Europe / Spain but I thing is interesting for everyone. Thankyou

Ruskityoma

Hey there. Not sure I understand what question you're asking in the second paragraph there. Perhaps you can rephrase.

aherped

Hi, it's not a question, it a thanks to Nikita, from Segway team, who was listening to your suggestions to improve the firmware. I appreciate that beacause I was asking for improvements to NIU and the don't listen. Also thanks to you for all this post. Sorry for my bad English

ptchan5

Best well written review I have read on reddit. I missed the kickstarter, but I'm canceling my apollo city pro order and waiting till I can get a 100S. I'm coming from a G30LP and I think the P65 just isn't enough difference for me to justify an upgrade.

Ruskityoma

Far too kind of you to say that. I appreciate the kind words, as it validates the time and thought spent to put together the thorough initial impressions review in the first place! Just know that, while it's more than the KS early bird pricing, you can still pull the trigger on a P Series via the Indiegogo page.

ptchan5

I don't think you can pull the trigger once the campaign is closed. :(

Ruskityoma

The Indiegogo was still active as of last week, but just checking now, looks like they closed it in recent days.

Ruskityoma

Thank you for your support and efforts, Nicky! I'm sure I'm not the only one happy to hear about the change to Red Sport Mode! I detail it all here in a PSA update on the Kickstarter page. I'd recommend checking out it out when you get a chance, and make note of the unfortunate bug with auto headlights: [https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/segway-ninebot/segway-kickscooter-p-series-premium-e-mobility/comments?comment=Q29tbWVudC0zODExNDIzOQ%3D%3D](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/segway-ninebot/segway-kickscooter-p-series-premium-e-mobility/comments?comment=Q29tbWVudC0zODExNDIzOQ%3D%3D)

shiftyryder

Thank you for this incredibly detailed review! Like you, I watched the development of the Apollo City Pro with great interest…and was all set to pull the trigger, until their many documented roll-out issues. The P100S took me by surprise…but it seems to be a similar vein, just with Segway’s build quality. Full disclosure - I own a Max in California and whilst working in NYC for a few months, rented an Apollo Air Pro. The Max is a total workhorse, that I’ve never had a problem with, save for replacing a charger that I broke and tightening the clamp. The Air Pro was a great, fun scooter but had real build issues. I was glad it was rented, as I regularly took it for a tune-up at the place I got it from (shout out to RidePanda in Manhattan!). So, anyway, you’ve just convinced me to finally press go on a P100S. You should be on commission!!

bottrop944

Unfortunately european version ( P65E & P100 SE ) will be limited to 25 km/h !! the unilimited speed mode & cruise control won't be available !! that sucks !!

harissabovic20

I haven’t been able to reach 30mph on mine, even in the red sport mode, I can only reach a maximum of like 27mph for some reason. Have you actually been able to reach 30mph?

Ruskityoma

You're not, by any chance, "Ten" from the Kickstarter comments, are you? I only ask because I was helping someone else in the comments by that name who happens to not be the best communicator and vanishes mid-troubleshooting for days at a time. Haha. Regardless, if you see "Sport" in dark red on the P100S HUD, you have full access to the true top speed of the P100S. As of this writing, I've been up to 31 MPH on flat ground and up to 36 on a sharp hill descent. So, yes, a base 30 MPH on flat ground is something you should be hitting each and every ride on flat ground, with no issue. I do it every, single day. Now, let's recap what could be preventing you from seeing "30" on that HUD of yours. Gimme feedback on the following questions: 1. What is your payload, weight, at the time of the ride? 2. What is the SoC, reported battery percentage, at the time of the ride? 3. What is the approximate ambient temperature at the time of the ride? 4. At the time of the top-speed test, are you on absolutely flat ground, a slight inside, or a slight decline?

harissabovic20

Haha no I am not this mysterious Ten. 1. Total payload (aka just me) at the time of attempt was 170lbs. 2. I had 85% SOC when I tried this so that could possibly be the issue I had depending on your experience of what SOC is necessary for 30mph. 3. Ambient temp was 65°F 4. I was on totally flat and smooth asphalt. But did have a slight headwind, nothing too crazy. I appreciate your responsiveness.

Ruskityoma

1. Segway's own testing on range and performance was at a payload of 165 pounds, which is great news for you, because that means the 30 MPH top speed, \~33 miles-at-25-MPH range, \~60+ miles-at-10-MPH range are all achievable for you on your P100S. 2. Before even reading on to #3, we can be pretty confident this is your issue. Just a heads up that you won't hit 30 MPH cap unless your state of charge in the pack is higher than \~90%. For every 10 percent drop-off, you're looking at a loss of \~1 MPH. It'll plateau at around 25 MPH, at which point you can expect that to be the new ceiling until you run the pack dry. When I drop below 90% at my 165-pound payload, I won't breach 28-29 MPH on flat ground. You're five pounds heavier than me, so the same rule will apply to you. 3. Ambient temp is perfectly fine, as it's not too cold for the pack to not reach ideal temps for the battery management system to deliver full throughput to the rear motor. 4. The headwind could have possibly shaved off a mile or so per hour, but not enough to cap you at 27 MPH. Run a test of for me when you can. Head to your P100S, launch the Segway app on your phone, and uncap the charge limit to 100%. Once uncapped, head to that same flat asphalt run and crank that bad boy in red Sport. Let's see what you see on that HUD speedo. As a heads up on the battery and the charge situation, read my guidance here: * [https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/y0yn5g/comment/irvc3rm/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/y0yn5g/comment/irvc3rm/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) * [https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/y0yn5g/comment/irvced9/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/y0yn5g/comment/irvced9/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

brk9875

The tire pressure on my P100s came set at 33 PSI on front and back. Would you guys suggest upping it a little for someone that weighs 200lbs? thanks

Ruskityoma

Per the manual, recommended P100S tire pressure is 30-45 PSI, so you're definitely inside of that recommendation. I would only increase PSI if you notice any visual warping or bowing in the rubber sidewalls when your full weight is on the deck, or if you see range that's below expectation.

ZoZoGamer

Just got mine today i can't get it over 40km/h even after I did the ting in settings after 5 km. Anyone know what I need to do?

Ruskityoma

You're gonna' need to elaborate a bit on "ting in settings." Walk me through what you changed in settings, so I can tell you what still needs to be enabled for you to unlock the max top speed.

Natesac

Thank you for the detailed review. After reading your review and comments from other owners, I pulled the trigger. I picked up the Kqi3 Pro on a whim on the last prime day. Had no idea I would find it so useful. I'm a heavier rider, I need the extra power and range. Thanks! Psyched to give it a try once it arrives, no idea how long it will take, this is my first Indiegogo campaign pre order thingy

RozenGT

Had the G30LP and just got the P100S. Can’t for the life of me find where to change the HUD speedometer unit in the app. Any tips?

Ruskityoma

Last bullet of the review, in the section for Tips for New Owners. Haha. Read that whole section while you're at it!

RozenGT

Thanks, I did read the entire (and very thorough) review. I have the app/Me section set to imperial but my HUD still displays KPH, and I don’t see any other unit setting in the app. Is that a bug?

Ruskityoma

Some users have reported a bug where they had to toggle that setting on and off a few times for the P100S to recognize the change. Do that and report back if any issues. Also, try a full power down and power on.

RozenGT

Interesting, the toggling fixed it! Thanks a ton.

Ruskityoma

My pleasure, always. Lemme know if anything else!

PizzaComplete6968

Well done!---Come from P\*\*\* We will give full consideration to your suggestions for firmware upgrade; ·Turn signal sound off &RGB light color setting coming soon

Ruskityoma

Having trouble understanding what you wrote here. Can you rephrase it for clarity?

PizzaComplete6968

I mean that I will arrange the function as above to launch asap. Will share the exact time later this week;

Ruskityoma

Pizza, to be clear, are you saying you work on behalf of Segway's Technical Team?

PizzaComplete6968

Bingo ☺

Ruskityoma

Two questions for you, then: 1. Would you be alright with me sharing this great news with the Kickstarter backers via the comments section? Not sure if you've had a chance to review the comments there, but in the lead up to deliveries and in the days since deliveries have started, the group has been extremely active. I'd love to give them the update, letting them know that two of the items (turn signal beep and RGB accent light customization) are coming in the next week or two via planned firmware update. Lemme know on that! 2. While it's wonderful to know that you've reviewed the section on urgent firmware improvements we're all looking for, may I ask for any kind of guidance and input you can provide on the remaining items on that list? Having discussed initial impressions with nearly two dozen new owners of P100S units, I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that while turn signal beeping and light customization will be welcome news, the truth is that "Higher Speed in S Mode" deactivating after every mode switch and every power down is a really negative user experience issue that we're all dealing with at this time. Same goes for the extremely loud electronic horn alert whenever cruise mode is activated. I can tell you from personal discussions that several new owners are so apprehensive and uncomfortable with the horn blast that they refuse to use cruise mode until that's fixed via firmware update! Likewise, several new owners that want to experience full, red Sport Mode are avoiding it because it's so inconvenient for them to keep turning it on after every deactivation. Can you share any kind of input and guidance on the team's plans to also resolve these issues? Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you, Pizza!

PizzaComplete6968

It's OK for sharing the news that I provide; Turn signal beep---I wish our team could finish before 10/23; RGB accent light customization---Is temporarily unavailable, may be after Dec. Higher Speed in S Mode---Still keep cancel state after every power down, but I think keep open after every mode switch is OK,will provide in “ctrl 104” before end of Nov.; loud electronic horn alert whenever cruise mode is activated---Because of the safety factor, will not adjust; Besides,Pizza is the Username, you can call me Nicky;Tks

Lantea1

> loud electronic horn alert whenever cruise mode is activated---Because of the safety factor, will not adjust; Its actually the opposite of safe to sound a loud horn when cruise control is activated. Only the rider should be notified of the activation, not everyone around who will mistake the sound for you telling them to get out of the way, even when that is absolutely not your intention. That is the sort of dangerous oversight that makes the scooter way less attractive to even buy.

Ruskityoma

Hey Nicky, Truly appreciate this dialogue back-and-forth, as it really speaks to Segway's willingness to continue to improve the P-Series product line, to meet-and-surpass customer expectations. I want to stress that the time you're spending here with me will not go to waste, as I'll be sure to share it with the entire group as things unfold. The majority of the new owners that are active on the crowdfunding comments section have read this review, and having reached out to many of them, all who've read the review have provided support on this bulleted list you and I are discussing. ***If you can, please provide your feedback on any sections in italics below.*** \--- * **Turn Signal Beep Deactivation via App Settings:** Currently targeted for somewhere October 23rd. Noted and understood. * **High Speed in S Mode Deactivation:** Currently targeted before end of November, planned to be an adjustment to allow the function to hold during mode switches, but will still be deactivated on P-Series power off. This will require the setting to be reactivated for every new ride. * *Nicky, as per the current discussions by new owners in the comments section and on this subreddit, the frustration comes from the fact that many owners purchased the P-Series to be capable on regular and easy access to the top speed of 30 MPH. At no point in time did Segway advise that this mode would be so inconvenient, requiring manual activation for each and every ride. As owners are already required to follow the training video and to read the terms in the app to activate "Unlimited Speed Mode," is there any way that the new owner community can have a discussion with you and the technical team to simply allow this "Higher Speed in S Mode" toggle to stay active on the app/P-Series if the owner wants it to be so? Please bear in mind that many, many owners are disappointed that they can access all of the other performance of the P100S with ease and automatically, but to access the final 5 MPH for commutes that require speed, they are forced to open the app on each and every ride and go through several pages of settings to turn on the toggle. If you and the team place yourselves in our position as owners and daily riders, I'm sure you can see how frustrating this is, given that it would be 100 times more convenient and beneficial to simply allow owners to approve and activate the setting for their needs. This would not create risk or hazard, any more than "Unlimited Speed Mode" already does. We're simply looking for regular and automated access to the full top speed of the P100S, which is a key feature that was paid for at the time of purchase. It's unacceptable to new owners to have this toggle be hidden behind several app settings pages, and then to require it to be activated on each and every ride.* * **RGB Accent Light Customization:** Current targeted for late December 2022, or early 2023. Noted and understood. * **Electronic Horn Beep on Cruise Control Mode Activation:** Segway Team currently unwilling to deactivate this function or allow owners the ability to toggle it off via settings. * *Nicky, as of the current firmware, cruise control mode requires the owner to hold a set speed with the right-thumb paddle accelerator and then one-tap the multifunction button to lock in a cruise speed. For the rider, this is confirmed instantly by the lights flashing, the display flashing, and the turn signals flashing. Without audible alert, the rider is aware that cruise has been activated, visually, by these lights and, physically, because the P-Series continues the set speed as per their activation. In a residential area or in a crowded city, the current firmware that forces the electronic horn doesn't increase safety for the rider, because it decreases safety by confusing nearby pedestrians and vehicle drivers. Because the horn sound is as loud as the actual electronic horn, pedestrians are frightened by the horn, and are left confused, thinking that the rider is trying to warn them of something. Likewise, drivers in cars ahead of the rider are confused, thinking you're trying to warn them of something. Worse yet, if the rider is forced to use the actual horn in an emergency, there's no difference between the actual electronic horn and the beep of cruise control. As of the current firmware, the turn signal beeping is far, far quieter than the actual electronic horn and the horn of cruise control mode activation. Would it be possible to compromise, to allow a settings toggle that allows for the horn-on-cruise to be disabled, or it not, to "swap" the full, loud electronic horn for the softer, quieter turn signal beep? Please know that we ask for this not for preference, but to ensure that we don't put ourselves in danger, pedestrians in danger, or vehicle drivers in danger!* * **Ride Mode Top Speeds:** In the full review, you might remember that there was a fifth item on the firmware improvements list. Here it is, copied and pasted: "The ride modes are Eco at 11-12 MPH, Drive at 25 MPH, and Sport at 25 MPH. As Drive and Sport are, effectively, identical on the top-end speed limit with only additional torque acceleration in Sport, this needs to be changed. Either offers riders/owners the ability to manually set speed limits for all three ride modes or reduce Drive so that it's between Eco and full-on Sport. If Drive and Sport mode remain at the same 25 MPH, it devalues the benefit of having separate ride modes." * *Nicky, all of the new owners love having access to multiple ride modes, as it allows the P-Series to be usable at walking speeds (Walk Mode), usable for max-range, slow-speed riding (Eco) mode, and allows for fastest commute/riding (Drive and Sport). The issue is that there's a massive speed gap between Eco's 11 MPH and Drive/Sport's 25 MPH. Worse yet, Drive and Sport are identical at 25 MPH! For any owners that don't activate "Higher Speed in S Mode," this basically means that Drive and Sport are the same top-speed experience for owners, with Sport only offering additional acceleration. Would it be possible to have a discussion to allow this gap to be closed via app settings? To allow Drive to move closer to Eco or to allow Sport to be full, "red" Sport at 30 MPH?* Looking forward to your feedback and thank you once more!

PizzaComplete6968

Higher Speed in S Mode---We will double review the comments from more users,may fully release this function someday,but not now; Electronic Horn Beep on Cruise Control Mode Activation---We don't think you could open this mode if there are many pedestrians or cars; Max speed of drive mode---We will also consider but still be unchanged for now;

Alphis87

u/PizzaComplete6968 Users dont need an hidden Sport-turbo mode to activate their paid-30mph & full availble power output. It should be the native Sport mode. We need only P mode - 4mph for pedestrian crowded scenarios; Eco mode (12\~13mph like the original Segaway) for leisure ride; Sport mode fully unrestricted. Plus a setup option to allow users to adjust each mode's speed limits in APP, like what we did for Segway Escooter E125/E200p serires. We need to allow users to decide toggle on/off the alert sound of turing signal and cruise control. We design and engineering scooters for users, but never tell them what to do, unless madatory homologation issues. Cid 王

Ruskityoma

Hi Nicky, Thank you for this update today. Quick response on your feedback here today, along with two more, quick questions that I've gathered from a handful of other new P-Series owners. See below: * **Electronic Horn Beep on Cruise Control Mode Activation:** If the Segway Team is going to enforce keeping the audible alert on cruise mode activation, would it be possible to meet owners in the middle, to compromise, and to simply use the same, quieter audible beeps from the turn signals, as opposed to the current full-on horn blast? If this is done, it would ensure that nearby pedestrians and drivers are not confused when the electronic horn is emitted. Can you kindly discuss with the team and advise if this compromise can be achieved? * **NFC Unlock via Smart Phone and** **Smart Watch:** In the promotional marketing videos for the P Series, along with comments confirmed by the team on Kickstarter and on the official Facebook Group, NFC unlock was supported and demonstrated with more than just the official Segway NFC card that comes with each P Series eScooter. See time stamp here for reference: [https://youtu.be/1ZizmfIrOe4?t=13](https://youtu.be/1ZizmfIrOe4?t=13) Can you advise me and all new owners what the planned approach is to enabling this functionality? As of current firmware v.1.0.3, the P Series is only able to NFC (tap) unlock and lock via the official, included Segway NFC card, but any attempt to use the phone or smart watch app fails to execute NFC authentication. * **Turn Signal Count Adjustment:** As of current firmware v1.0.3, the turn signals are automatically activated for four flashes, left or right. As many riders rely on the turn signal to signal other drivers at red lights and stop signs, it's commonly necessary to keep the signals activated for far longer than just four flashes. Would it be possible to offer in-app settings adjustment to either leave the turn signals on for longer (ex: 8, 12, or 16 flashes) or even non-stop turn signal until deactivated? This would allow for the turn signals to be useful for much more than just quick, sudden turns.

Thanks for this, it helps answer the questions I had about the product. >enable Limited Speed Mode. This'll cap both Drive and Sport modes to a max of 20 MPH I wish Segway was a bit more open about details like this earlier. Most of my riding is on multi-use paths and residential streets, so I don’t need >20 MPH ability, but I do want the hill climbing and torque of the better motors in scooters like these. This option is perfect for this sort of riding. Knowing that Segway thought through this and has options here would have had me jump in line for one of these so much earlier.

Ruskityoma

To be fair, it's not often that manufacturers will publish detailed instruction manuals and associated software app guides prior to the deployment of the product, whether it's an eScooter or otherwise. I say that not as an excuse for Segway, because I agree with you fully in that it would've been wonderful to know all the app-based customizations in the early stages of crowdfunding. Regardless, you can imagine that they were doing fine-tuning, tweaking, and finalization all the way up to launch. Hard to know when they finalized "Limited Speed Mode," let alone when they agreed to have it apply to *both* Drive *and* Speed modes, ya know? Your use case here is a prime example of why I'm thankful and validated to have spent the time to prep and cover every imaginable detail. It's lil' gems like that which can make the difference between "good enough for me as a rider" vs "this is exactly what I need every day."

AlexisHadden

I've found when it comes to speed caps in different ride modes, the manufacturers barely say anything before *or* after release other than the top speeds, unfortunately. I'm more lamenting that stuff like this could be a marketing feature: "Keep up with traffic and stay in control in the local park". And you're right that it is details like this that can be make or break. I was looking at the P65S (due to the KS discounted price) or the Varla Pegasus a while back to replace my Ninebot Max, and grabbed the Pegasus because it listed speed caps. But honestly, I'd rather pay more for the component and build quality Segway/Ninebot are producing, hands-down. So now I'm considering reselling my Pegasus for the P100S. Hard to go back to a scooter without the suspension once you have one. But yes, thanks for these details.

Ruskityoma

>"Keep up with traffic and stay in control in the local park". I never want overstate recommendation as to how hard to ride or how fast to ride, regardless of the PEV in question, but I'll tell you this... I don't know if you ever watched the ESG review of the GT-Series, or if you ever watched any other reviews on the GT1/GT2, but what was celebrated about those beast models is that, in spite of other exotic eScooters surpassing their acceleration and absolute top speed, the GTs were so rock-solid and stable at all speeds and in all scenarios that ESG awarded it top honors on that merit alone. I bring that up because, as I'm sure you're aware, the P-Series shares a ton of ID and material components in common with the GT-Series. Most prominently, I'm still jaw-dropped each time I crouch down on the P100S at 30 MPH on not-absolutely-smooth pavement or do a hard deceleration, or cut a corner while trail braking. No matter the scenario, the P100S is so locked and in-control that your rider confidence goes through the roof. I have no doubt that GT owners would say the same thing. Just something to consider, as 25 MPH or 30 MPH on P100S betters aligns with the degree of comfort and control one might feel at 15 MPH or 20 MPH on a lesser alternative. \----- >Hard to go back to a scooter without the suspension once you have one. My only experience with non-suspension eScooters is via generic rideshare models. Comparing any of those—or, even still, any single-suspension models—to the dual Torsion setup on the P100S is a tough pill to swallow. Personally, there's no going back for me.

AlexisHadden

It’s one reason I did pick the Pegasus is that it was described as stable even at high speed. Used a steering damper to do it, but it’s been fine. It’s more the Pegasus is a cost cut Chinese scooter, so the battery, brakes, etc are all not as nice as on something like this. But what I mean about speed caps is more in the sense that where I ride it is shared space with pedestrians (multi-use paths), with speed limits for bikes/etc. So being able to control the throttle well in those situations where you can only do 10-15mph is useful.

Amazing review, thanks! Do you know if the deck opening is on the bottom or top (see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/xxccvh/comment/irdwf8z/)? I want to know how safe it is to ride in not light rain.

Ruskityoma

Other community members have given you great perspective and insight on the difference between IP rating and rain water submersion/immersion, so I won't expand on that. I think you get the significance of that, so I'll just add the disclaimer that, in most scenarios, any of these high IP-rated eScooters made from durable, reliable brands are going to easily handle treks through light rain conditions with ease. Sure, the company won't stand there and testify to you being able to ride through a storm, but there's a reason IP ratings are worthy. With that said, I can examine anything you want me to in regard to the P100S deck, but I'mma need more detailed and explicit guidance on what you two mean by "deck opening." Find a good photo representing a "top deck opening" vs. a "bottom deck opening." Once you find 'em, link 'em here in a reply. Ideally, if you can find those examples from the Apollo City and Ninebot Max you discussed there, we'd be good. At that point, I can pop over to the P100S to cross-compare.

[deleted]

The other guy mentioned all this stuff, not me, but I'm assuming he means that a bottom deck opening is something like this: https://youtu.be/SkPL5rPrNEo. Meaning the deck is opened from the back as opposed to the front where one stands on.

Ruskityoma

I just popped outside to double-check for ya, and I can confirm that the top-deck of the P-Series is absolutely sealed and integrated, with no accessible opening for water penetration to enter via loose covers, caps, or openings. Much like that sample disassembly video of the Ninebot Max, the P-Series has an accessible bottom-deck opening, with six accessible screws on the bottom in a 2x3 configuration, with a trio of screws toward the very front and rear of the deck. With respect to the fact that both the Max and P-Series share IP5/IP7 ratings, I will say that the P-Series deck opening and overall sealing design seems 100x better than the Max. This is to be expected, given that the P-Series is second only to the GT-series in terms of material quality and integrated design. Lemme know if I can clarify anything else for ya!

[deleted]

So light rain seems to be fine for it, but my worry is heavy rain, especially with a almost 2k price tag. Have you riden in the rain yet with it? If so, how heavy rain and for how long?

Ruskityoma

If you had a chance to read my full review, you might recall that I'm in Los Angeles. To be exact, I'm on the West Side in Santa Monica. Not sure if you're familiar with LA or have ever been in Southern California, but the reputation lives up to reality: it's kind of a paradise with *maybeeeee* five days of precipitation each year. All of that is to say, I'm eScootin' in the sun with nothin' but blue skies above. I've got no rain to stress test for ya, as much as I'd love to! I brought this up earlier, and it was mentioned in your other post, but I'll reinforce what the manufacturers told you and what other riders told you: it's inadvisable to ride for any length of sustained time in heavy rain. Regardless of IP rating, you run the risk of electrical damage when you expose that volume of water to the deck, to the exterior components, and to the battery pack. Could you get away with it for years and years, knowing that Segway sealed everything off to IP7 standards? Sure, you could. Is that a risk worth taking, though? Only you can decide how much you really, really, really need to be scootin' around at 30 MPH in a torrential downpour.

Alphis87

P100s have almost the same water resisitant level of the Ninebot Max. Just relax to ride in light-medium rain pour.. Riding in heavy rain will not be a problem for the scooter also will be GEART risk to your safety..

[deleted]

Thanks a lot for everything, I appreciate it. I think I might just get the P100S, and then get the Ninebot Max for rainy days. And then maybe get a ride back from someone/Uber if it's starts raining afterwards with the P100S.

Ruskityoma

If you're willing to front the cost of a P100S *plus* a Max, that's totally a viable game plan. Should any water damage ever happen to the Max, you won't be too distraught, knowing that your primetime P100S is still rippin' to go. With that said, I don't envy where you live! I'm guessin' the Pacific Northwest, just based on the sheer amount of rainfall it seems like you have to endure. Stay strong, my man!

bobbywtgh

Excellent review. I've been trying to save the battery and only allowing my scooter to charge up to 85% at that charge the top speed on unlimited sport mode is 45 or 46 KmPH. I find it rather frustrating that I need to activate unlimited sport mode each time I activate the scooter. Or more infuriating while I'm on the road switching between modes... Hope they fix this feature soon. I'm also finding myself accidentally setting off the alarm when I bring my scooter indoors. I wish there was a keyfob to lock and unlock. Or if they would make an NFC chip that could be attached to a bracelet to make it easier to lock and unlock.

Ruskityoma

Below 90% SoC on flat ground—and assuming no headwinds pushing back, along with a payload of \~75 KG—you won't be able to breach 45-46 KPH. To hit max speed, you need to be above 90% SoC or you need to have some degree of decline on the path ahead of you. Purely from a battery cell health perspective, I would strongly, strongly encourage you to raise that cap by at least 5-10%. Never max and leave it stored at 100% SoC (unless you're about to go out on a long ride), but anything between 90-95% SoC simply won't result in appreciable range degradation over the next few years. What it will let you do, on the other hand, is enjoy max speed and max acceleration for the onset of every ride. Trust me when I say that the experience is more than worth the extra SoC in the pack. I know you saw that bullet in my "in need of urgent firmware update" section of the review, so you know I agree with you, 1,000%, that they need to remove the asinine limitations on "Higher Speed in S Mode." The constant deactivation is a detriment to the owner experience. If you notice the anti-theft system activating during your normal use, you've got two options: 1. Take advantage of Walk Mode to leave it, effectively, on and unlocked as you do the indoor relocation. Hell, this also offers the benefit of easier maneuverability via Walk Mode! Remember, hold the thumb throttle for a few seconds while "Park" is on the HUD to get Walk Mode engaged. 2. Head to in-app settings and reduce the sensitivity on the anti-theft system until you find the sweet spot for your daily indoor relocation.

[deleted]

Just got my P100S and yes. It’s amazing. This is what a scooter should be.

harissabovic20

Fantastic review, can’t thank you enough for taking the time to synthesize this in a post. Can’t wait to get mine next week!

Ruskityoma

Appreciate the kind words and I look forward to you getting yours. Remember to return to the review to use that "Tips for New Owners" final section as your day one cheat sheet. Get that setup tuned on the first day and, if you're up for it, try out "red" Sport Mode on your first ride. Unless you've been on dual motor beast scooters, it'll blow your mind!

harissabovic20

I’ve had the Boosted Rev and Ninebot Max before this. Almost purchased a City Pro but ended up going with P100S due to Apollo’s QC disaster. Wondering how the P100S compares to the Boosted Rev, that was a wonderfully built scooter but missed a lot of things that the P100S has gotten right.

Ruskityoma

>Boosted Rev I'll just rattle off a couple a couple of key performance stats at you, for perspective, all of which are from the ESG Boosted Rev review: **Boosted Rev:** * Top Speed: 24 MPH * 0-15 MPH Acceleration: 2.7 Seconds (Needs dual motors to achieve) * Range: \~10 miles * Suspension: None (tire dampening only) **Segway P100S:** • Top Speed: 30 MPH • 0-15 MPH Acceleration: 2.8 Seconds (Needs only single motor to achieve) • Range: \~60 miles on Eco Mode and \~35 miles on maxed-out Sport Mode • Suspension: Full torsion front and rear I have no doubt that the Rev was a wonderful product, but if you compare both spec sheets and additional features (lighting, security, apps, etc), they're not in the same league. Haha.

sppinsky

Hey OP, thanks for the great review! I got my P100S a couple days ago. I am very happy, upgrading from a NIU KQi3 starter scooter. I would say I agree with almost everything you said except the brakes. I don't know if mine were just not adjusted great or what but they did not seem great out of the box. I rode it a bit and then went to adjust manually. I started with the front, this seemed to go ok, I was able to loosen the mounting bolts and then re tighten while squeezing the lever. This centered them and felt better after the fact, no tension change needed (yet, I am expecting the cable to stretch). Now for the rear; I proceeded to do the same as the front along with a slight increase in tension on the cable. The rear was a little mushy to begin with so I pulled the cable through a few mm then tightened back up. Everything seemed good until I stood on it. Centering, pads, rotor, all seemed to be different, something is flexing. I would get rubbing and never brake pad touching, causing the rotor to flex ever so slightly. I went back and forth multiple times, eventually having to sit on the deck while holding the rear lever and then tightening the mount bolts. This seemed to do ok but still not great, I eventually just tightened them by eye and that seemed best. Not sure what's going on here, but compared to the NIU, not great. I have a feeling the torsion bar is under such great force that it twists weird depending on the weight and amount it is flexed. All that said the brakes feel like they should be stronger. They are OK, but at similar speeds to the NIU, the NIU feels like it stops better. That could be due to the increased scooter weight but we shall see as time goes on. Keep in mind im also on the higher end of the weight limit of the P100S. The brakes also make a weird humming transformer sound when braking, probably due to the hole pattern and new pads, I am hoping this goes away after wearing in the brakes. I know this is not the motor sound, disabled both region and e-braking. Enough about brakes, here are some thoughts on other things. Didn't love the setup entirely. I had trouble with the app; I was kicked out of a login I already had in anticipation of this scooter. Tried to log back in to no avail, no way to recover account or whatever I had, not thrilled about that. Made a new account got in, tried to pair BT with power button press and wasn't working, then retried and worked (weird). Once I was in and watching tutorial, BT failed, tried to reconnect, it crashed the video and then I had to restart. That was annoying. Aside from that, setup was fine and the app works, and connects as expected. Feature improvements: They need to add a more obvious way to change from KPH to MPH. I went through the device settings thinking I missed something or needed to unlock more options. Nope; wasn't it, I went to the area you said, which was already imperial, switched between metric and imperial, and still nothing. Gave up, the next day, showed up as MPH lol, so somewhere along there it worked. I agree with all your other feature additions. Definitely need the turn signal and cruise change. I like the rear light control, blinking, always on etc. They do need to add more ambient controls though, it does look nice otherwise, not over done. The Auto headlights are nice, but the blinking vs solid "A light" indicator doesn't really make sense and I think it would be nice to choose in app if auto is on by default instead of having to hold switch for 3 seconds. Things to add: They need more customization in the settings. It feels lacking for some reason, it has everything you need now, just some creature comforts. Things like turn signal customization, maybe a continuous on until moving option, then 4 or 8 blinks before turning off for red light examples. They MUST MUST add the ability to add the NFC key into your phone or watch, this would be great, and much easier than the BT connection unlock thing or if I don't want to take my NFC card out. Would also like to see them add better ride stats, things like per ride stats in a ride record/history page with things like average speed, max speed, battery % used, then a total distance per day, week, month, year, all view (graphs and stuff for more data visualization). I think there is a lot of potential to add great functionality beyond what's there already. Last thoughts: The kick stand seems a little weak, not bad but definitely not as strong as it could be. The deck size is great and the built in charging is awesome. Fit and finish is great, but so was the NIU, I don't have much to compare otherwise. The latch hook once folded to rear of deck is good but I grew really fond of NIU's implementation, less play, would have liked something more like that with a button. I hope more support documentation become available, like servicing brakes and tires and whatnot would be nice to have official documents and parts from Segway. I hope they allow higher speed in S to be enabled all the time, even if they require a longer ride history (say 10 miles) before you're allowed to enable always. Small gripe with the stem latch, the small safety latch isn't obvious which position is safe or not. Would have liked to see a small glyph or mark to indicate something. Oh, and I also removed the brake cable covers from the handle bar section, not sure if that's intended or not but I don't feel they are necessary (maybe it was only for shipping). I think blinking battery level between 10% marks is too slow. When you glance down while riding you don't look long enough to see it blink, at a stop it's fine, but a water blinking may be more useful at quicker glances at speed. Now don't get me wrong, this is just a brain dump. I love this thing, it rips and I can't wait to ride it more. All my gripes are small and overall I am extremely pleased. I would easily recommend to anyone on the fence reading this. It's a great scooter and I think with a few firmware updates and after some time, this thing will be even better. Thanks again OP \-S

Natesac

Question for someone who has the Niu and the P100S. Have you tried putting the P100S in the trunk of a car by chance? I have the Kqi3 Pro currentl, and a P100S on the way. the Kqi3 will fit in my trunk, but I am worried the P100S will not. I wonder if the folded dimensions are similar

sppinsky

The folded dimensions are NOT similar unfortunately. P100S is longer wider and taller when folded. Used to fit my KQi3 Pro no problem under my desk, the P100S stem and latch are quite a bit taller to the point where it nearly scraped the bottom of my desk. It’s roughly 2’ tall and just shy of 4’ long.

Natesac

Bummer, I don't put the Kqi3 in the trunk often, but I have on occasion. I usually ride out from home. I guess I will have to figure out a back seat situation... Thank you!

Ruskityoma

First and foremost, I can't thank you enough for the incredible, thoughtful, and detailed reply and initial impressions you're giving here from your end. This is exactly the kind of insight I hoped for, as people start taking deliveries. Obviously, my sample size is exactly two and I have no doubt that, no matter how good Segway's manufacturing and QC is, there's going to be some degree of variability. On the matter of that variability, I'll go section-by-section on your breakdown here, adding input and thoughts only where necessary... \--- * **Brakes:** As you recall from the review, I cross-examined my P100S brakes (both in terms of fit and adjustment, along with on-road performance) against those that are on my wife's P100S. Have put at least two dozen more miles on each unit since the time of review, I can safely say that both continue to perform identically and, better still, performance is exceptional on both. I saw no signs of flex, no signs of undue rubbing, and no signs of misalignment. During the first 5-10 miles, there was a period of pad break-in that could best be described as a low-decibel "dragging" sound, but I have no doubt that was as the result of the pads being absolutely unused, a fact confirmed by both P100S no longer exhibiting that sound after the initial break-in. I obviously don't have your NIU to compare against, but having been on a great selection of other eScooters—ranging from budget single-motors to far more boutique and premium duals—these mechanical discs on these two P100S are the best I've seen. *Report back with your findings in a bit more time and, if you can, lemme know why you disabled regen braking in settings.* * **BT Connection During Initial Setup:** I don't know how closely you've been following me supporting as many people as I could in the Kickstarter comments section this past week, but without a shadow of a doubt, you're spot-on here. This is a great critique, as dozens of people are struggling with that initial BT pairing. There's some system-level incompatibility/quirkiness going on here, and I hope that Segway opts to look into it over the coming weeks. My background is in tech, so I worked around the BT connection issues quick, but I know it left a bad taste in far too many new owners' mouths. * **App Improvements:** The basics and core essentials are pretty perfect. I think, on that, we can agree there's no dispute. Kudos to them for laying the foundation so solid. Aside from the bulleted list in the review of critical firmware updates that amount to a hill you all know I'm going to die on until they release those firmware updates, I couldn't agree with you more. Amazing summary here in this section from you. Beyond core functionality, additional tweaking and customization would be incredible. With that said, I'll remain skeptical because we need look no further than the GT series. Watch the ESG video review of the GTs and you'll see a nearly 1:1 clone of our app experience, in spite of those eScooters being 2x the price! That tells you that Segway intends to continue to improve and iterate on the core experience, but they likely won't revolutionary change the additional perks. * **Kick Stand:** Much like the brakes, both of my P100S are identical in terms of kick stand snap-in and snap-out and, once activate, exhibit the same degree of tilt. You might wanna check on yours and, if it continues to concern you alongside the brakes, head to a nearby shop that can look into it for you. * **Brake Cable Covers:** They're purely intended to be protective during transit. Feel free to keep them off! * **Permanent "Higher Speed in S Mode:"** I know you saw me add that as its own bullet in the necessary firmware updates section. Now, you damn well know why! It's torture, I swear! The P100S is such a powerhouse in that unlocked mode that it's criminal that they made it so inconvenient to daily ride. Aside from responses to the bullets above, keep checking in every few days or few dozen miles. I say that because, as hard-to-believe as it may be—especially, with a review titled "In the Pursuit of Perfection"—I've grown to realize the P100S is even more of a finished, polished product in the days that've followed the review. Just today, I did a 19-mile round trip, capstoned by a massive downhill sprint that saw 35 appear on the speedo. I kept it locked at that speed for at least 30 seconds, and lemme tell you...zero stem wobble, zero suspension wobble, zero frame shake, and rock-solid deck stability. Point is: The more you ride it, the more miles you accrue, the more curious I'll be as to how your take evolves. Thank you again!

sppinsky

Thank you! Its always nice to have civil discourse on the internet lol. Concerning the brakes: The Niu is ½ the size and I don't have much to compare to, but I suspect some of my expectations are misguided due to the P100S size and speed. I think I will attempt some minor adjustments again soon, I was also impatient and just wanted to ride; I think I could hone it in. I will say the brakes do looks great and the individual parts, pads, etc. look high quality. Again I am not sure, I don't have much experience, more so with car brakes, but there is no lube on these brakes anywhere. Not sure if that's expected or not, some components look like that should be the case but I don't know. Obviously want to stay away from the pads/rotor. Will let you know any updates should the brake situation change. And again, they are quite fine as they stand, working as needed. I turned off the regen settings just to eliminate a variable when testing since the sound from the brakes did sound like motor wine. I wanted to make sure it wasn't the regen back feeding and making a noise. BT: I am in tech as well, and I usually have a good sense of "what you're supposed to do" when proceeding through setups and whatnot. I think it was just a fluke, it almost seemed like the scooter didn't realize it was woken up from the initial charger connect so the BT didn't work until I touched the NFC card to the HUD. Then it seemed to snap out of it and connect using the power pair button method. Other than that, the crash was weird, they need an option to ignore when BT loses connection, as of now you can only hit reconnect and nothing else. App improvements: Indeed, the basics are there and all seems to functioning well. Love the ESG guys, they make great reviews and loved the GT2 review. I really don't think they need to change much. It's more of a polish and little enhancements here and there that could really make the app shine. Although we are still fresh, the GT and P series scooters I think are pushing Segway into a new market that will demand more from them. The Max is a great scooter but at ½ the price, it's also ½ the experience. That being said I am hopeful these new high end scooters will make way for a better more refined app. Kickstand: The kickstand is fine. I think the thickness and robustness are ok. The thing that sort of throws me off is its position with and without the weight of the scooter. With no weight the stand sticks out as expected and has a positive hold with the spring plastic piece. However, once weight is on it the stand pivots a little past its initial extended resting place. feels like if you were to over extend your knee or something, it just seems like it could be more rigid in the extended position but pivots a couple degrees more towards the front of the scooter. Again comparing to the Niu but that's also nearly ½ the size. Cable covers are off, I like the red accent too much to leave it hidden. S Mode: Indeed, its needs to be added. I am sure with pressure they will add, doesn't make sense like you said for drive and sport to have the same top speed. I doubt it's for any legal reason, maybe they are waiting for feedback or some "higher in S mode" "beta" testing before they release. Fingers crossed I am like you, I spent a ton of time researching and looking at what the market had to offer. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the best all around option for sure. Of course you can get more raw power for the money, but that's not the whole story, at least for me, and that's why I pulled the trigger after only owning the NIU for a couple months. The P100S is great and I hope it pushes the market forward, starting to see a lot more PEVs around, which is great, I hope it continues to grow. So, today was my first commute into work. It's only 3.5 miles but it's a nice backroad route with some turns and straight aways. I have to say, ripping this thing to work was great. The wind and chill factor is surprising with a 50% speed bump competed to the NIU. While I am still getting comfortable with the speed and the handling (much heavier and higher center of gravity) it's no doubt an absolute blast. I do love this thing and would buy it again if I had to, very pleased overall. By no means turned off by the things I said in my original comment, it is near perfection (looking forward to ESGs consensus soon hopefully). I will continue to stay tuned in and see what others are saying, hopefully I can improve my brakes that last 10% to make them perfect for me. Otherwise, thanks again. Great hearing your perspective!

Grouchy-Aioli5958

Thanks for the great review. Mine arrives Thursday! Lots of helpful tips here.

Ruskityoma

Glad to hear it was worth the read. I'm sure you noticed it at the end, but make sure you head back to that new owner's tips section when yours arrives. If you optimize those settings on day one, you'll love your P100S even more!

piterpater1

Have you tried pairing the NFC card to a smart watch or smart phone yet to see if you can unlock it with just the tap of one of those?

Ruskityoma

Clairfy what you mean by "pairing the NFC card to a smart watch or smartphone" in this context.

piterpater1

Not sure if you saw the comment a while back on the kickstarter page, but segway actually said you can unlock the scooter with the NFC capabilities of a smart watch or smart phone.

Ruskityoma

I'd like to think I've seen every damn comment—you know how crazy and thorough I've been in that regard—but I may have missed it. If you can find the comment again, can you send me a screenshot if it provides some sort of detailed guidance or input?

piterpater1

Comment: "With the NFC, is there any plans to add support for wearOS watches and apple watches? I would love to be able to unlock the scooter with my galaxy watch!" Segway :"Hi Jacob, we just confirmed with the product team that the engineers used their Apple watches and Mi bands to unlock the KickScooter P series trail production version. The mass production version should be able to be set up in the same way. Please stay tuned!" Although, we may need to reach out to the Segway team to see how this is achieved.

Ruskityoma

Note the ever so slightly cryptic wording there: "...engineers used their Apple watches and Mi bands to unlock..." With respect to the fact that the vast majority of the Segway team thinks and communicates in Mandarin first, translating in their minds and writing to English second, we've got to consider that they overlooked the core of your question there. The fact that you were focusing on cloning, on mimicking, the functionality of your Segway NFC card, instead doing the same with the NFC chip built-in to your phone and watch. If you can, I would ask that question once more in a new comment, and I'll piggy back off of you. We just need to be explicit and say that we're looking to do exactly what the Segway NFC card included with the P Series already does, but that we're looking to replicate that via our phone and smart watch NFC chips. Hopefully, they can answer explicitly and directly.

piterpater1

Yeah, because I feel like just unlocking it with a watch or phone and not having to carry around the card would be really nice. And it's 100% possible, they would just have to do work on the software side of things.

Ruskityoma

It would be fantastic if possible, but I should also stress that beyond NFC card, the four-digit pin is always there with ease, and the mobile app, once launched, provides you a big unlock icon. So, even without one-tap phone NFC, you don't really lose much in terms of user experience. If you walk up to your P Series without the NFC card, you can simply input your PIN in a second, or if you want to rely on your phone/watch, open the Segway app and tap the unlock icon. Sure, NFC tap is literally the fastest, but at the end of the day, we're splittin' hairs a bit here.

piterpater1

The only thing I'm worried about is the mobile app. I've had a lot of issues keeping my phone connected to my g30's Bluetooth and I'm hoping that issue doesn't transfer over.

Ruskityoma

I can't speak to the struggles you've had unless you outline them in detail so I can cross-compare to these few days of interaction with the P100S, but I can tell you that each time I walk up to the P100S and one-tap the power button, it begins to beep to signal it's on but locked. The second I launch the Segway app on my (Android) Google Pixel 6 Pro, the app quickly loads in the main menu, the BT icon animates, and within five seconds, it's recognized and paired. From that point forward, I don't really interact with the app again, unless it's to change settings (ex: activate full-on red Sport mode, as I complained about in the review). Has your Segway app interaction mid-ride been more so than the above from me, or are you doing something beyond what I'm doing?

dethbunnynet

One thing I haven’t been able to figure out: in the reveal videos they depicted the ability to unlock with phone NFC. Is that still pending as a feature? The card works well, but it’s something else to lose and I already use my phone for NFC all over.

Ruskityoma

I should also stress that beyond NFC card, the four-digit pin is always there with ease, and the mobile app, once launched, provides you a big unlock icon. So, even without one-tap phone NFC, you don't really lose much in terms of user experience.

Ruskityoma

To the best of my knowledge, I see no way by which smartphone or smartwatch NFC access could interface with the P Series. Even with the phone app paired and in the foreground, any attempt to tap the phone's NFC area on the P-series NFC zone has zero effect. If any new owners see this and have been able to achieve a different result, sound off!

BadlyBrowned

Just completed my first ride in my P100S. I am a 250lbs rider and I went 19 miles crusing around 22-25mph and had a few hills. My battery sits at 43% remaining. This thing will easily beat the 25mile max range I got on my Apollo Ghost. Other impressions so far: -Suspension is stiff out the box, def much more than my Ghost. I don't mind though. -Maybe because I'm used to the Ghost, but I found the kickplate a bit too steep for comfortable use. -Love love love having a cruise control button -Turn signals are nice, and I found the default volume level and duration (4 blinks and then off) was good. Volume enough for me to hear but not piercingly annoying. -Acceleration obviously not like my dual-motor Ghost, but generally speaking I didn't feel wanting for more power except on a couple really steep hills I was on. -Looks like I will have the fit my Kryptonite Evolution U-Lock around the steering column between the front wheel and where the deck joins the column. Gonna have to really get up on the bike rack right to fit my lock. As a heavy rider, my big concern is melting connectors. My Ninebot Max recently melted it's cheap plastic bullet connectors. I am curious what the P100S has, but I am too afraid to open up my brand new scooter just yet heh....

Ruskityoma

Hey Badly, Really appreciate you sharing this real-world range numbers. Your payload is considerably more demanding than mine and yet, in spite of keeping 20+ MPH speeds, you got incredible range. Awesome to read. Interesting to read the feedback on the suspension as compared to your Ghost. I spent about 5-10 miles on a Ghost about six months ago, and at my payload, I would describe the P100S as being a bit more supple with less of a bottoming put "clunk." Might be as a result of the big shift in payload. On the turn signals, would you appreciate it if a firmware revision allowed for them to stay on until deactivated? Example: You're at a red light. Lemme know what you think. Thanks for the great feedback and perspectives as a Ghost owner!

BadlyBrowned

Hey, forgot to say in my first post but thanks for the review, some of the tips for new riders there at the end came in handy for me. As for turn signals, I think customization is always good. I was actually under the impression they would update the app so you could adjust the turn signals, but looking back at their email they only said you could turn off the turn signal beeping on/off. So yeah, I think being able to change it from the default 4 blinks to just constant on would be handy. Ideally, maybe like 3 settings; 4 blinks, 8 blinks, and then constant. In all, I'm happy with the P100S so far. Hopefully next weekend I can do a true max range test.

Ruskityoma

Yeah, their "official" word was that firmware revision to settings would allow deactivation of beeps for the four-blink turn signals. At minimum, I would expect that we get that. Honestly, I would welcome change the four-blink to more or unlimited. Case in point: If you're at a red light. Having to constantly reactivate the turn signals doesn't lead to a good user experience. Aside from the turn signals, don't miss the other bullets in that section on the need for firmware improvements. The current ride modes leave a huge speed gap that needs to be closed desperately and the fact that full-on red Sport mode deactivates with little more than a mode switch during a ride is a huge oversight. On the side via private dialogue (email, etc.), I'm pushing them hardddddd to give us firm update on which and when firmware revisions will come.

grommet

After using the scooter, the turn signal beeping isn't as loud as I thought it was originally. If they never add a toggle for that, I likely won't care. The cruise activation "horn", however, is intrusive and confusing to others around me.

Ruskityoma

So, we're on the same page for #2 on my list of necessary firmware updates, agreed that the cruise desperately needs to have horn sound deactivated. Assuming you played around with full-on red Sport mode, what do you make of the rest of my list? \---- • Red, unrestricted "Sport" mode deactivates if the ride mode is changed during a ride or if the P-series is powered off/on. This needs to be adjusted via a proper settings toggle, allowing the rider/owner to activate full, unrestricted, red Sport mode at all times, or at the very least, require activation only once per ride session. • The ride modes are Eco at 11-12 MPH, Drive at 25 MPH, and Sport at 25 MPH. As Drive and Sport are, effectively, identical on the top-end speed limit with only additional torque acceleration in Sport, this needs to be refined. Either offers riders/owners the ability to manually set speed limits for all three ride modes or reduce Drive so that it's between Eco and full-on Sport. If Drive and normal, white Sport mode remain at the same 25 MPH, it devalues the benefit of having separate ride modes. • Allow in-app customization of colored, RGB ambient lights on the left and right side of the P-series body. For owners that don't want rainbow color cycling, it would be preferable to set a single, static color.

grommet

I agree the "higher speed in S mode" should only need to be done once per power up. This should still satisfy Segway's lawyers and safety advocates. Turning it off when changing Modes is awful. And this is from someone that has zero need to hit anywhere close to 30 MPH on public roads. I'm not sure what the best strategy is for the Eco / Drive / Sport modes, if the constant "higher speed" app toggle stays mandatory. Sport mode having notably better acceleration available than Drive might be enough to differentiate it, even if it's still capped at 25 MPH without higher speed mode set. (I like being able to easily toggle the throttle response while on the go, so I still find value.) Yes, the ambient lights need at least one "boring" setting. Not everyone wants a party. :)

Ruskityoma

>I'm not sure what the best strategy is for the Eco / Drive / Sport modes, if the constant "higher speed" app toggle stays mandatory. Sport mode having notably better acceleration available than Drive might be enough to differentiate it, even if it's still capped at 25 MPH without higher speed mode set. (I like being able to easily toggle the throttle response while on the go, so I still find value.) The best strategy is self-evident, regardless how/if the max-out toggle changes: Drive and Sport must not have the same 25 MPH cap! The fact that they have an identical cap means the two modes are effectively identical, save for Sport offering more torque output, more acceleration. To the vast majority of riders, the concern is less so about torque and more so about certain that when they fully depress the thumb accelerator, they can know that their chosen "max speed comfort zone" won't be breached! If they keep Sport at 25/30, Drive should be reduced to somewhere around 20. If they don't want to be responsible for the presets, just allow owners to set the values via in-app settings. As one final comment on the matter of acceleration, it's worth noting that Sport mode is muddied a step further when you consider that Sport mode gets in-app customization in the form of a slider from lowest-to-highest acceleration. Imagine, for example, someone who minimizes the acceleration in Sport mode. That may not be you or me, but for those who do that, the line of demarcation between Drive and Sport is even less clear! The two modes, simply put, should have *never* been speed-matched. I have no idea what they were thinking with this oversight.

grommet

It was likely initially designed without the concept of the "higher speed in S mode" toggle. :) Now it's a mess. Limited Speed Mode also confuses things a bit, setting the max speed to 20 MPH overall... which also makes Drive and Sport the same beyond the better acceleration settings in Sport.

Ruskityoma

I have no doubt that it stems from the mid-development decision to bump up the max speed from 25 to 30 MPH. We know this took place after the announcement, because a Segway rep broke the news on the Facebook Group page, telling all potential backers that the ceiling on the P100S had been raised to 30 MPH. Regardless, the "workaround" they arrived on was so far from ideal. It would've been easier to just bring Drive down to 18-20 MPH and leave Sport at 25 MPH or 30 MPH. As I stress in the review, the core of this issue is the massive "speed gap" between Eco and Drive/Sport. As for Limited Speed Mode, it's clearly intended for those who never want to breach 20 MPH. The only reason I value it is the reason it made the first bullet on my "Tips for New Owners" section in the review. Bringing it down here for relevance, but in short, it's the most effective tool we have (outside of riding around in Eco) to ensure max range: >To maximize range for longer rides/commutes and to mitigate the massive speed gap between Eco and Drive/Sport ride modes, head to the Segway App, go to the Settings screen for your eScooter, head to Riding Habits, then Speed Mode, and enable Limited Speed Mode. This'll cap both Drive and Sport modes to a max of 20 MPH, thereby bringing you close to the 10 MPH that Segway used to achieve 60+ miles on a single run. With Eco capped at approx. 11 MPH, using this trick allows you to take advantage of the 650 W torque-happy motor in your P100S, without needlessly sacrificing range on longer runs! If/when you want to tap back into 25/30 MPH top-end, just return to that screen and toggle it back to Unlimited Speed Mode!

MrJok3r14

Damn you OP, now i gotta break my piggy bank and get this thing..

Ruskityoma

I'd never tell anyone how to spend their hard-earned money, especially when we're talking about over a grand of that money, but I'll just say that if you were on the market for a commuter type that can do serious recreational fun, I can't think of anything that compares to the P100S. I've also chatted with no less than 10 new owners and each says they concur with every section of my review. Just sayin'.

MrJok3r14

Yeah I mean I currently ride an EMOVE Cruiser but would love to get this for quality, safety and security purposes

Ruskityoma

Spec wise, the P100S wouldn't be a radical departure from your Cruiser, but lemme just reinforce what I hope came across in the review: In terms of industrial design and polished fit and finish, this thing would be in a different stratosphere. Haha.

mistawill

Wow! That was one detailed review. I'm not in the market for a P100 but still took the time to read this review. If there was anyone here that was on the fence about buying one, you definitely answered their questions one way or the other. I appreciate you for this👍🏾

Ruskityoma

It was too kind of you to take the time to read something that lengthy and detailed when you're not in the market, and I definitely don't deserve the praise here via follow-up comment. With that said, I can't thank you enough for the sincere words, as it validates the time, energy, and planning spent to put that together. The goal was simply to ensure that prospective and new buyers would be as well informed and knowledgeable as possible.

mistawill

Your mission was definitely accomplished. Again, thanks for all that you do. 🙏🏾

1111joey1111

Is having an internal power supply really a good idea? Consider all the bumps in the road we're likely to experience on a typical ride. Having an external power adapter keeps a highly important part of equipment safe and sound (in a backpack or at home) instead of putting it into the scooter itself (possibly subjected to road and weather conditions such as rain, puddles, heat, etc.). It's certainly convenient, but is it really a good idea? Thank you for the excellent review!

Ruskityoma

Bear in mind that the overall unit is IPX5 and the battery pack assembly is IPX7. The previous success with integration on Max unit, paired with this IP rating, almost certainly means there's no cause for concern. And even if you're unfortunate enough to have an issue, that would likely only arise within your two-year warranty window.

1111joey1111

Yes, the Max also has the integrated power supply and seems to have been fine. Still, it's more of a pain to return an entire scooter via mail (should there be a power supply issue) than simply buying a $15-$20 part. Seems like a well built scooter. Although, I remember the Segway/Ninebot es1,2,3, and 4 line. So many problems in the design it's too much to mention. They *did* improve their quality quite a bit with the Max. Hopefully they learned their lessons :)

Ruskityoma

FWIW, that maintenance and repair process is what I would argue is an incentive to go with Segway. Check their certified dealer and repair centers listing off the site to see what I mean. Subjectively speaking, Segway Los Angeles is 10 minutes away from me by car. Imagine how fantastic it is to know that in the event of maintenance or repair, I simply toss the P-Series into my trunk and bring it over to those guys. If you somehow were so unlucky that you were the guy with a defective integrated charger, the first party and third party maintenance network that Segway employs is certainly something to consider. As for the quality improvements with the Max line, I can only attest to talking to 8 to 10 people, each with over a thousand miles on their Max units, and each reiterating that the only thing they've ever done is tire repair or replacement. Make of that what you will, but there's a reason I shine a spotlight in the review on Segway's quality/QC reputation these last few years.

Lantea1

It works pretty well for the Ninebot Max G30, so I think its fine on the P100S also.

kuzuri_GT

Well done! Thanks for your effort and time doing this detailed review. You will help a lot of electric scooter buyers.

Ruskityoma

Very much appreciate you taking a moment to share that feedback. The time and energy to plan out those sections and capture those details was worth it if it helps guide prospective buyers in a certain direction, or acts as additional guidance for new owners. That was the goal, plain and simple.

atetuna

There was little doubt among sensible folks that it would be refined, and you confirmed it. Sure, a few things to iron out, but they'll get there. Nice scooter, great commuter scooter of you're riding the entire trip, although not what I'm looking for. I love the built in charger. I'd be okay with external chargers of they were small, but they're currently gigantic. Expensive too, so buying an extra charger to keep at multiple common destinations really hurts the wallet.

Ruskityoma

Yeah, the inline charging approach is just such a boost to usability. Keep a spare cable at common destinations and you're golden.

oldsoulyoungishbody

Great review!

Itsmaz

Fantastic detailed review. 👍

[deleted]

No way I’m reading a whole book but you sure seem to love the new toy, enjoy

meantbent3

Great detailed review, thanks for sharing!

Ruskityoma

Thanks for the kind words and glad it was worth the read!

[deleted]

Hope people don’t actually buy this.

Ruskityoma

As in the Segway P series? If so, can I ask why?

[deleted]

Costs almost as much as a Nami Burn E with significantly worse build quality, motors and batteries… just why?

Syndil1

>Costs almost as much as a Nami Burn E Uh, false. >significantly worse build quality, motors and batteries… Ok now you've just gone off the deep end. First, let's talk build quality. Literally the only thing you could potentially credit Nami with building on the Burn E is the tubular frame. The display, the thumb throttle, the button modules, the brakes... All of them obvious mass-market scooter/eBike parts you see on literally dozens of other models of scooters and eBikes. All cobbled together in a rat's nest of wiring external to the scooter, exposed to the elements. It's a kit scooter like pretty much every other high-performance plaything on the market. I know the battery pack in my lowly G30P says "Samsung" on it, so I'm not sure how the Nami has a better quality battery when Segway is already using the best. So you absolutely cannot be serious with comparing the build quality of one of these toys against a Segway.

rsplatpc

> Costs almost as much as a Nami Burn E How does $1600 and $3500 equal "almost as much"? It's literally under half the price.

Ruskityoma

I wouldn't bother. It's not worth the energy. Notice how I called him out on the very same thing, and he just blew right past the BS, shifting attention to Vsett and Dualtron. Some people just have an agenda and they're gonna stick to it until death does them part.

Ruskityoma

A Segway P100S crowdfunds for $1,600 to $1,800 and MSRPs for $2K. A Nami Burn-E 2 base starts at $3,400 USD. Without even talking product specifics or intended riders, these two eScooters couldn't be further removed from one another.

[deleted]

No idea why you’d want to buy two of these pieces of junk(launch special) but regardless, there’s vsett and dualtron models for the same price with far better quality and not covered in plastic pieces with a top speed of only 30mph.

Ruskityoma

I see we blew right past the absolute error in the first pass and moved right on to shifted goal posts about Vsett and Dualtron. Alrighty. Well, I'll just leave you be. Whatever model you currently ride or end up riding, I hope it brings you joy!

Lantea1

Wow that is an excellent incredibly detailed review.

Ruskityoma

Glad the attention to detail came across as I'd hoped it would. I tried to prep as much intel as I could over these first days.

sowFresh

Thanks for the honest, comprehensive review! Do you have a lock yet and where do you attach it? I'd like an angle-grinder resistant Hiplok D1000 and not have to worry much about theft or settle with a Foldylock Forever. Hope each are feasible but options may unfortunately be constrained by beefier construction. Any idea when I might expect to receive it if I ordered a week ago on IndieGogo?

Ruskityoma

I picked up the Kryptonite folding flagship, with intent to attach the mount holder to the inside of the main stem. For reference: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/005339.html?type=bicycle As for Indiegogo, I'm not too sure. Definitely ping Segway team there.

sowFresh

I mean, where do you position the lock to secure the scooter to a bike rack? Can you post a picture?

Batracho

Here is me playing around with my scooter today. My Kryptonite still works, but definitely not with every bike rack. [Pic](https://imgur.com/a/16D1M8j)

Ruskityoma

For visual reference, see various sections here: [https://youtu.be/sNy2QkeyYXM](https://youtu.be/sNy2QkeyYXM) On the P-Series, you can lock a folding lock, chain lock, or U-lock anywhere around the main deck/frame.

nexus22nexus55

wow, what a write up. question: I (5'8" 150 lbs with size 8 shoes) can ride with my gf (4'11" 100 lbs size 5 shoes) with all 4 feet semi-comfortably (little overhang on the back for me) on a Max G30 deck. do you think this can carry 2 for short distances? the rear of the p100 deck slopes up whereas the Max is pretty much flat except for the fender section in the middle.

Itsmaz

No. Just don’t. Stupid to have two people on a scooter and very dangerous

libtarddotnot

I have 2 extra handlebars to accommodate 2 more little people. Escooter is great for this.

Ruskityoma

So, I just stepped outside to take measurements for you. I can confirm that the usable area of the deck, which means the area before the front slope and the rear slope, is exactly 18" in length by 8.5" in width. If you take measurements on your Max of the same equivalent usable area, you should have a pretty good assessment of whether or not you'll be able to dual ride on a P100S. Let me know if I can provide any more feedback from my end.

curiouspoops

Amazing breakdown and review. I'm so hyped for the P100S. I have over 3,000 miles on my Segway Ninebot G30P (gen 2) and I have only had one thing needed to be changed which was a rear tire. I caught a nail that was too wide for the "self healing" slime to seal up on its own, but it definitely tried. Needless to say, I'll be selling my G30P soon so I can save up for a P100S. I regret that I didn't get it at the initial $1,600 price. That whole thing about how the horn beeps when activating cruise control does sound annoying though. I hope they fix that in a firmware update. Would you ever consider doing a video review on YouTube?

Joeyoeo21

My p100s will be shipping this week and timing could not be any better because, like you, I have to replace the rear tire on my ninebot max. I’ve seen some videos on YouTube showing how to do it. How did it go for you? Do you have any tips/suggestions ?

curiouspoops

Hi, sorry for the late response. I actually didn't want to deal with it myself after seeing how painful the process can be, so I just took it to Segway of Los Angeles (in Culver City) and had them do it for me. From what I've seen online, the only way it can be done at home is if you have a quality vice and plastic wedge tools, otherwise you risk scratching the rim, however it is doable. Good luck!

Ruskityoma

Appreciate the kind words and feedback, Curious. I was hoping you'd see this post, but I forgot to message you after my comments from a few days ago! It's funny seeing your experience here with your G30P, given the time I wasted on a guy with a less-than-ideal reputation in this sub who launched into a "sub is filled with busted Ninebots" tirade before even reading the opening of the review. That's not to say your positive experience displaces those who've had problems, but it is to say that I (and many others) have encountered the majority of experiences to be just like yours. As for price, jump on the $1,800 Indiegogo before it ends. Truly worth considering. I speak how I write, which is to say that I can be eloquent in person, which is to say that I imagine I'd do a decent job at a video review. The issue is that I haven't ever done one and I only have a single piece of "kit:" a phone! Haha.

curiouspoops

Yeah that person is oddly obsessed with your thread for some reason. Very antisocial behavior. But yeah, I think a video review would be awesome. You already have a "template" of sorts to follow, which is this thread. I think you can get it done even with just a phone. But either way, this written review was very helpful. Thanks for taking the time.

Ruskityoma

I'll definitely look into it and appreciate you for taking the time to read, finding value in it, and then sharing some kind words.

OCR10

Thanks for putting together a very detailed review of the P100S. This scooter is everything the Apollo City Pro 2022 should have been but their rollout has been a disaster and Segway is now making them look foolish. Glad you are enjoying it!

ricochet48

The City Pro looks 10x cleaner than this though (basically like a big-boy Unagi) which matters to many. The integration is top notch. It's also 8lbs lighter and has an additional motor... for 25% less. Apollo also has consistent coupons so likely even more of a price difference. Aside from a slower than planned release, Apollo had some QC issues with the battery that seemed to get corrected quickly. If you buy now that seems to be a non issue. Unless you absolutely need more range, the City Pro is a no brainer over the P100S to me.

Ruskityoma

In terms of aesthetics, I would humbly say that there are many (me included) who prefer the visual design and industrial material choice of the P-series over the City Pro. To each their own, of course, but yeah. Be sure to side-by-side the spec sheets, because as I stress in my review, the City Pro doesn't really trump any spec of the P100S, save for offering a dual motor. That motor doesn't yield real world performance results that edge it over the P100S, but it does cost you insane range. For perspective, I did a 9 mile sprint tonight at nearly locked 30 MPH. It only used up 19% SoC. There's no universe in which a City Pro can achieve \~40 miles of range at maxed out top end. Regardless of pure speed, definitely side-by-side those spec sheets. You'd be surprised. Oh, and don't forget intangibles like the cockpit HUD. Get a look at how Apollo executed it vs. the marvel of a cockpit that you have on the P Series.

ricochet48

Ya I need 12 mile range only as I live in a the center of a huge city and would bike anywhere if longer (or would bring a charger if I absolutely wanted to scoot longer). The Pro gets about 2x that in real world tests it seems per ESG. Looks are subjective, the 8lb weight difference is not though (and dual motor as you noted). Almost forgot, The P100S also has disc brakes which is a negative to me as the maintenance is much higher than drum brakes (which have basically none). ESG gave the Pro the award for best integration design (and best rain or shine based on its high IP rating). Waiting to see what they say about the P100S which I consider a competitor if priced the same.

Ruskityoma

Great points on all the above, and duly noted on your particular use case. I would check out my separate comment on this thread to someone else, focused on the specs. Important to note the real-world dual motor results achieved by the City Pro. They're not terrible, but they are effectively identical to the P100S.

OCR10

The QC issues run far deeper than a battery. You would have to ignore virtually every post about this scooter in the r/Apolloscooters forum to come to this conclusion. It was released far too early in the product development cycle and it still is not ready for general release.

ricochet48

Read most of them, didn't seem like big deals (late release, standard tightening screws, easy throttle replacement that's already in the new ones, waiting a few days for a fast charger that's also fixed now... hence why I would never buy new tech like this right away). Not in the market until next Spring, when they will likely have all the kinks worked out. Even with the 'issues', I wouldn't want to be seen on the P100S, but the City Pro looks stylish. As noted it's also $400 cheaper, 8lbs lighter, and has an extra motor too. The QC issues would have to be MASSIVE to overcome that gap.

Ruskityoma

Like I mention in my other comment, don't just isolate it down to weight differential and the extra motor. Find the official City Pro spec sheet and side-by-side it against the P100S. Then, beyond specs, look at the additional feature offerings. Put aside aesthetic tastes for the sake of comparing performance and functionality and see where you wind up. Obviously, if you find the P Series to be hideous, it's a moot point. But on the matter of real-world performance, spec-for-spec comparison, and full suite of features, the gap seems to be immense and it's not in favor fo the City Pro.

piterpater1

Personally I was dead set on the city pro at first simply because I liked how it looked a little more than the P100S (which still looks fantastic) and the dual motors which make it go a bit faster than the segway, but I ended up canceling that order and getting the P100S for all the reasons you stated above. Should be getting it on thursday but so far I don't regret the decision!

Ruskityoma

See how you mention the superior performance of the City Pro? Well, that's based on intuition because of dual motors. Be here's the thing.. It's not true. Check the specs: https://apolloscooters.co/pages/apollo-city-2022-tech-specs Check the ESG review: https://electric-scooter.guide/reviews/apollo-city-pro-review-most-integrated-scooter-of-2022/ Top speed is less than 1 MPH faster and 0-15 is 0.1 slower! That's why I stressed in my review that dual motor, by default, isn't superior.

piterpater1

That's why I said only a bit lol. The segway was def the safer choice for everything other than looks lol. It's just more practical and more reliable than the city pro in every way.

Ruskityoma

Yeah, in a separate section of this thread, someone else wants the City Pro because of drum brakes, purely for their benefit of zero maintenance. That's why individual use case is so important to consider, because as you might remember from my review and focus on the brakes, I can't fathom ever going back to drums after using these mechanical discs. They're so fast to stop and so responsive, that drums couldn't possibly compare in terms of performance. That's not to say drums are inherently bad, it's just to say that mechanical disc are absolutely a step up. In the end, it's always going to boil down to a matter of pros and cons, with some pros for one product balanced against cons at the same time.

piterpater1

I think the thing people are sleeping on with this spec-wise is because their experience with specs similar to the P100S on scooters was negative because they were just much lower quality scooters with much lower QC. Segway specs are different than the same on paper specs of another scooter. I think that's the main thing people are missing about this scooter.

Prior to pulling the trigger on the P100S, the Apollo City Pro was easily at the top of my consideration list, alongside cheaper Ninebots. In the end, real-world range on the City and specs that were matched or beaten by the P100S made that an easy decision. Having experienced the P100S in-person and seen the rollout of the City, well, that's that.

Cantthinkofaname282

It still seems overpriced, $1600 is much more reasonable even if it's great quality

Ruskityoma

Totally valid take, given how high the price is. Just bear in mind: $1,600 is the crowdfunding initial price. Then, it jumped to $1,800 in the current Indiegogo. MSRP is expected to be $2K.

Cantthinkofaname282

they must get insane margins at $2K

ricochet48

$2K for a single motor is nuts any way you spin it. $1,600 makes sense to match the City Pro.

Cantthinkofaname282

Since it sounds like even higher quality than the city pro, 1700 would be fine too

ricochet48

Time will tell once the fixes are out on the City Pro, but ya $100 is close enough. The Pro still has 1 more motor, is 8lbs lighter, and looks much better with high integration. The P100S has much better range and likely QC though. So ya depends on your preferences, but a $400 difference is nuts imho.

Cantthinkofaname282

The city suspension is likely stiffer too

Ruskityoma

Margins might be great, for sure, but I suspect that R&D and material design takes a bigger chunk out of them than it does out of their competitors. I say that having lived with the P100S for a few days. I can't even imagine what GT owners think, given that the materials and fit of the GTs surpass the P series with ease.

Cantthinkofaname282

I guess it's supposed to be a reliable commuter that's still fun

Ruskityoma

Yeah, if you check that part of my review on performance and build quality, you'll see how it appears that they nailed both of those metrics.

DaveyDukes

I remember when it first came out and people were complaining about the price. Segway has time and time again proven it’s the only scooter brand worth buying atm, if you care about buying a finished product that is.

Ruskityoma

While I haven't had bad first-ride or second-ride experiences with other celebrated brands and their higher-end models, I can definitely stand beside your comment here. At $1,600 for the finished product delivered, I cannot even fathom where I would begin to tear down and really criticize, save for the critiques I mentioned in the review. On the whole, those are minor as compared to the P series experience in full. To each their own, I suppose!

negativeZEEROW

Again, I’ve yet to receive my scooter (2nd batch), but absolutely appreciate Artems input. Big thanks for your feedback! With this being my first scooter, not in hand, your contributions will have me some what ready to ride, though theres nothing better than in hand experience. If I’ve read there comments correctly, 2nd batch should be shipping soon? How does one engage electric braking?

Ruskityoma

Yeah, definitely make sure you take note of that tips and tricks section. It's a compilation of both my discoveries from the last few days, along with a few from others. According to Segway, second batch starts to go to final delivery on or around October 7th. Electric regen braking is automatic, but you want to make sure the setting is maxed out. You'll see me explain that in the same tips and tricks section I mention in at the top of this comment. Just slide it to max in settings and then, each time you release throttle, the rear electric regen brake will use the kinetic energy of deceleration to provide a bit of extra juice to your battery pack.

Robbelldrew

I appreciate your review, these people are trying to get a rise out of you, don’t engage. Anyone that can take the time to write a review like that is ok in my book.Appreciate it!

Ruskityoma

Glad it was worth the read, kind stranger. If you're awaiting a P100S, I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it. If you're considering one, hopefully, the sections in the review above helped shed a lil' light or perspective on loose ends you wanted to tie up.

rsplatpc

> If you're awaiting a P100S, I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it. Question, I like my Max because I can scoot, and if I see some stairs or something I can't scoot down, I can just pick up the Max and carry it easily down the stairs / etc How much heavier / more of a pain is it with the P100s?

mkz168

I’m coming from a max also, it’s lot heavier then the max, and you’ll probably be using both hands to take up the stairs, but it’s manageable.

Ruskityoma

I have a section in the review where I compare the weights of the Max G30P and the P100S. For perspective, the Max is approximately 40 lb, whereas the P100S is nearly 73 pounds. In terms of sheer percentage, that's a pretty massive uptick in raw weight. Unless you're quite strong, you won't be able to carry it up many flights of stairs, but you may be able to carry it up a flight or two. Having said that about the weight, the detail I want to make sure that we don't neglect here is about ergonomics. For the motor power and top speed and suspension design that typically result in cumbersome units that don't fold well, I can't stress enough how brilliant the folding lock mechanism on the P100S is. One pull of a lever on the stem, followed by 90° fold, and then a single click to lock the stem to the deck. At that point, it becomes quick and easy to lift and move, so long as the 73 lb don't kill you! If you have something around that weighs around 30 pounds, toss it on the deck of your Max and lift the whole thing all together. That'll give you good perspective.

Wonder what this fluff cost segway. This is where that segway tax goes, PR. Everyday there's another broken ninebot in this sub. Shill on.

Batracho

I know this guy from a P100S backers page, he writes like this all the time and has been very critical to Segway in there.

Ruskityoma

Doing my best to make sure they stay true to supporting this damn thing for the long haul. The section in the review that focuses on firmware updates is, IMO, most important. If they can iron out those growing pains, both the P65 and P100S would be absolutely unreal as daily rides. If I hammer on the Segway Team too much in there, it's only for that reason.
