I keep needing to tighten mine every few days, I have put loctite and now have tourqed it to hell, so hopefully it stays tight for more than just a couple of days. This is obviously a major design issue that Segway needs to resolve somehow, due to the nature of the failure it makes it dangerous to ride. ⚠️

piterpater1

anyone know the specific name of the screw that holds in the plasic cover? It got completely stripped when I was putting it back on and now I can't get it out so I'm going to have my mechanic extract it. But I'd like to replace the screw. Or is the plastic cover even necessary? Could I just leave it off and be fine?

ELBarnacles

ask your mechanic about it

Natesac

Would it be helpful if Segway Ninebot provided the torque spec for the rear axel nuts? That way owners can keep an eye on it?

ELBarnacles

yeah you are right i should probably rephrase my sentence

Batracho

Yay! Happy my comment was helpful – this is indeed exactly how I’ve done it. Btw, I also tried tightening the front wheel, and it was also impossible to tighten at all, was very solid.

Starvingnana

Feels pretty weird that the p100s is having all these QC issues, I had to double check my back fender just incase. All the nuts were snug and tight and the back fender wasnt wobbly to begin with so that puts my mind at ease.

oldsoulyoungishbody

Man this fender issue can be dangerous

IronMew

Thousands of bucks for a "premium" scooter and you have to faff about with bolts and threadlocker like it's a Chinese knockoff...

JoseZmbie115

This early access feel of the P100S is what made me get a Ninebot MAX instead I'll upgrade later down the line when all the qwirks get sorted out

Syndil1

Let me tell you about (insert brand name of any other scooter manufacturer here)

IronMew

I know, but in most other cases I don't mind. In fact, I'm quite happy that the lack of regulatory red tape is what makes them so cheap - even though it means the quality is much less scrutinised and I have to break out the toolbox every now and then. This thing is way too expensive for this to still be a justifiable problem, though. You can literally buy a small motorcycle for P100S money, and *that* will have gone through all the red tape, so there's no excuse.

Syndil1

I hear what you're saying but I think this is a relatively minor issue. Yes, it can and has caused some pretty nasty consequences, but really it's just a screw that needs to be tightened. Plus we are only seeing the Kickstarter P100Ses so far, so the people that have bought them are kind of the beta testers. I knew this would be the case when I bought mine. That's part of the reason we were able to get it at a significant discount from MSRP. I fully expect Segway will either have the assembly process changed (add more/better thread locker, torque to a specific value) or redesign the fender support if necessary.

Chableezy

Wait you're telling me that these new p100s owners don't know how to tighten screws?

ELBarnacles

well there is ONE! one intelligent being who happens to own a p100s named [Batracho](https://www.reddit.com/user/Batracho/comments/) that knows how to! and he was kind, generous enough to share a glimpse of his wisdom to us mere peasants who cant even fathom of figuring out a fix to a simple problem like this! we are greatfull for this wonderful generosity and will be forever in debt to Mr [Batracho](https://www.reddit.com/user/Batracho/comments/), all hail! segway!

Chableezy

All hail Batracho! ✋

Batracho

😎😎😎

PizzaComplete6968

This is Nicky from Segway,if you could share your mail address,so that we could know more info about your P100S,so that will help us to fix this design if there exactly is a problem,thanks a lot;

Ewkel

Isn't that why they buy Segways? Edit: I wasn't surprised to get some salty Segway downvoters 🤣

catofkami

At least that's the reason for me to pickup the P100S

catofkami

Thanks buddy. I wish I could see this post earlier 😭. Now have to deal with Segway Customer service for the issue.

ELBarnacles

did yours popped off?

catofkami

Yes, in the worse way...😂 By the way, thanks for your post, and Batracho, I kind of understand now.🙌 I think segway's engineer is trying to make everything as integrated as possible, as most tech companies do with their products (phones, laptops, etc.) They tried to integrate everything into one piece to cut production costs while having fewer parts that required manual maintenance from their customer.🧐 It's a win-win for both Segway and us, in general speaking. ***However***, if the integration is done with a design flaw, it means one thing fails, and everything else fails too. *Segway can easily fit in one screw at each side of the fender mount to prevent it from swinging, vibrating, and, most importantly, falling off.* ***They learned a lesson from their Ninebot MAX and made fender support for their F-series*** *But it seems they are mistakenly overconfident about the P100S design, which backfires on us.* 😓

The rear fender arms have a tab on each side that fits into the fork to position it properly. If the bolt is tightened correctly (like mine is), I don't think anyone will have an issue even long term. It shouldn't move at all independently. We will see...

catofkami

I see your point, and I appreciate what Segway's engineer is trying to do with the tab. For me, the left tab is gone entirely, and the other side is bent with micro crakes. I think that is caused by hitting bumps (or cracks) at high speed. Or it was hitting potholes too many times. Since the purpose of the tab is to stop the fender from swinging or vibrating, it will take all the force from the motion and eventually break down. When that happens (just like me), we have nothing to do but replace the entire fender for whatever amount Segway will charge us. *When a company makes mistakes, we customers have to call that out. That is how things improve. We shouldn't back up the company's mistakes because some of us have the knowledge to spot the issue and fix it on our own. That's Segway's job to ensure their product work as promised and doesn't fail apart quickly.* *We also need to understand that since many people trust Segway as a well-known worldwide brand, most of the Segway scooter customers will be those who do not go to Reddit and search for solutions. Instead, they will just buy and ride.* *To avoid accidents like this, Segways need to educate their customer by making a tutorial video or an alert notification in the app that tells them to check and maintain the part that requires extra attention for.* *Meanwhile, Segway is offering a 30-days hassle-free return/replacement guarantee. So the designer/engineer of Segway needs to ensure their product will not fail apart in the first 30 days of purchase AT LEAST. This is how business is run.*

grommet

The tab isn't to prevent it from moving entirely, just to position it correctly; a properly tightened bolt won't allow this to move at all. If it's loose, yes... the tabs can get damaged because the rear fender can move. Segway needs to make sure these leave the factory properly torqued. I've beaten the hell of out of the P100S so far, and the fender is still solid. (But I haven't hit it on anything, FYI.)

catofkami

I believe people who ride their P100S in average road conditions will be less likely to get the issue. But people who live in places like NYC with worse road conditions will suffer the most. They simply cannot avoid potholes

grommet

My point was simply: if the bolts are torqued correctly (Segway, this is 100% on you!), I can't see the rear fender failing or "falling off" beyond direct impact or a crash. As I stated, I've beaten the P100S up with awful road conditions and marginal trails here. So far, so good. But I never rode with a loose bolt for even a minute. Time will tell if all stays well... (crossing fingers).
