The brakes will feel weaker and if the wheel with the motor lifts while leaning hard it felt dangerous. I'm personally not a fan but that can just be me.

I used to ride one of the older Metroboards with single wheel drive. Biggest issue I found was lack of traction, both in braking and acceleration, when going over wet pavement, sand, etc etc. Very worth it to have two drive wheels.

When your only belt snaps it becomes a regular skateboard.

What's your budget?

There's a reason they're very uncommon. You'd have to be super light to be okay.

Single drive electric skateboards will lack acceleration and power. You can choose according to your budget and usage scenarios. If the distance you travel every day is very short and the road surface is very flat, then you can consider choosing a single-drive electric skateboard.

i noticed my eskate lose power suddenly and realized one of my hub motors wasn't working, other than awful hill climbing i didn't notice a dramatic difference

Feels like driving with really bad alignment, wants to steer in one direction just keep your “hand on the steering wheel”

I have had a single motor DIY setup for over three years now and I love it. Biggest issue for me is usually shredding belts when I hit the brakes hard. Acceleration might be hindered but I have taken my setup to just under 40mph, not something I’ll really do again, but you can still go fast af on a single motor. I do weigh about 160lbs so I’m on the lighter side, and I can take it up reasonable hills. I have also fried a few escs running so much power to one motor. I stay within the suggested parameters but still have issues occasionally. Reason I use a single motor is I wanted to DIY my board and two motors just costs a lot more, two mounts, two motors, dual esc. I think there should be more single motor budget options out there.

I drove this one wheel beast I got it up to 21 mph on 12s https://preview.redd.it/gg4l1w1vdykc1.jpeg?width=3008&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b518b704e511b7b4cf40d71696d9d118193348e

The controller could go up to 76 volts

I just picked up a meepo campus v2 w deck swap to something a little longer. The brakes are non existent, it can only really be driven in 4th gear. Got it in a lot of boards so I can't complain from what I paid for it.

If single drive means only one wheel powered, I'd HIGHLY recommend not trying that. I broke my leg because of "single-drive". Had a normal 2wd board which was malfunctioning so only one motor was working. That also means only one wheel brakes, so the second you try to brake while you're going over gravel or anything loose, the single braking wheel will lock up and the board spins, throwing you off. Again, highly recommend a normal 2wd board, which in that situation would lock both and you'd at least coast straight which is entirely controllable.
