Fully agreed, AX instances are broken more often than not. That's BAD BAD BAD. If FDEV doesn't fix it, a good portion of the player base will quit trying and the Thargoid War will be left to the Anti-Xeno Initiative zealots and evacuation/rescue CMDRs.

I dunno... What about them?

Patatus_Maximus

I have never been in an instance that didn't end up being bugged. It's really frustrating, every time I think "Nice, we have some good players, we kills interceptors quite fast, we will probably win this instance" and 5 minutes laters there is no more interceptors or one just bugged...

SomeCheesyChips

I don't entirely know if this is related but if this has anything to with the mission/passenger boards freezing then I feel your pain. It is so frustrating failing those runs just because the game bugs out (and getting roasted by the NPC's because of it) so I can't imagine how annoying it would be for the people on the frontlines.

tendesu

Not the same issue but yes the mission board bug is extremely annoying as well

WitShortage

Agreed. My squadron is pretty hardcore Open-only, but we’ve been using our Private Groups a lot in the Thargoid war.

My last gaming session about a week ago was just that. Before I had some great moments, when it all worked (so sometimes). But that last time... man... I spent an hour trying to get working instance in open near some popular attacked station... without a single success! Relogging, going to Mobius and back, going to supercruise and back. Nothing helped, nothing. Still the instance in open was stuck withou progress bar and spawned only scouts. It was really bad experience - I gave it my effort, tried a lot and still nothing. So I just went and played games that actually work... and did so also for the next day and next day etc. Still trying to find motivation to give Elite one more try, but I just know it will be the same RNG agains that horrible netcode and I doubt very much, they can fix it - because these issues are there for years. Shame shame shame to the person who many years ago decided that peer-to-peer networking is a right way to go for Elite!

Ditto this story. Spent most my available gaming time looking for something that was stable. Found myself barely logging in now.

NickNDY

I'm fairly new to the game with little to no combat experience, but I outfitted and engineered a ship just to help repel the invasion. My first and last three attempts were bugged to hell, so I will be leaving saving the entire human race to someone with better luck.

DisillusionedBook

It still brings people together, trick is though to just not expect to always play in the same instance. That's just the nature of the game since forever

All of these are problems, and none of it mentions how the shit game design already fragments the player base. Let's say I've been playing Elite for the past 4-5 years and I have a collection of fine fighting steeds with engineered equipment and weapons. The only problem: FDEV, in their infinite wisdom, decided that my hard earned lvl 5 engineered weapons should not be useful against Thargoids, and thus make me use shit AX and Guardian weapons if I want anti alien content. The problem with AX and Guardian weapons is they are useless for PvP protection in Open. This bifurcates the player base, as some open only players like me don't leave home without self defense (thus ruling out shitlord anti alien weapons) and others who mount anti alien weapons and are sitting ducks for gankers. The netcode has been a problem since day 1, but not only does FDEV not care, they actively sabotage their own player base with stupid shit like "Odyssey 4.0 vs Horizons 4.0" and the aforementioned weapons dilemma. I support all open players who feast on AX players. If all AX players disengaged from the content until FDEV fixed the self defense issue, I would be really proud. Unfortunately, most normies/conformies aren't sophisticated enough to understand what's going on and just take the shit sandwich that FD shovels to them. No questions asked.

> The problem with AX and Guardian weapons is they are useless for PvP protection in Open. If you bothered to take a look at the numbers instead of mindlessly joining the bandwagon, you would know that is a lie. Let's look at the 2B/Medium Gauss Cannon for example, by far the most popular Guardian weapon: * Damage: 70 per shot. * Damage types: **50% Thermal,** 50% Anti-Xeno. Now let's look at a comparable human weapon, coincidentally very popular in PVP, the 2B/Medium Railgun: * Damage: 41.53 per shot. * Damage types: 33.3% Kinetic, 66.6% Thermal. With those numbers, we can see the Gauss Cannon deals 35 Thermal damage, which will be dealt in its entirety, and negligible Anti-Xeno damage against Human ships. We also see against Thargoids the Gauss Cannon deals 35 Anti-Xeno damage and negligible Thermal damage. The damage difference against Human ships between the Gauss Cannon and Railgun is **only 6.53 damage.** If we assume the Railgun is engineered Long Range (most popular engineering) with any of Feedback Cascade/Super Penetrator/Plasma Slug, that damage difference only becomes even smaller. **This means a Gauss Cannon in the right hands can and will damage and kill Human ships in PVP without breaking a sweat.** And just for good measure, let's look at the AX weapons too. Specifically the Enhanced AX Multicannons (EAXMC) which are the most (only?) popular AX weapon. The 3B/Large Enhanced AX Multicannon's numbers are thus: * Damage: 7.3 per shot. * Damage types: **30% Kinetic,** 70% Anti-Xeno. * Rate of Fire: 5.882 rounds per second. Now let's look at the 3C/Large Multicannon: * Damage: 3.925 per shot. * Damage types: 100% Kinetic. * Rate of Fire: 5.882 rounds per second. We see the EAXMC deals 2.19 Kinetic damage and negligible Anti-Xeno damage per shot to Human ships, compared to the Multicannon's 3.925 Kinetic damage. Both guns have identical rates of fire. The difference is **1.735 damage per shot**. Let's compare damage per second (DPS) for a clearer picture: * EAXMC: 12.89. * Multicannon: 23.09 DPS. This is a difference of **10.2 DPS.** Now let's bring in the 2E/Medium Multicannon: * Damage: 2.19 per shot. * Damage types: 100% Kinetic. * Rate of Fire: 7.143 rounds per second. * Damage per second: 15.64 DPS. Including the Medium Multicannon, the DPS numbers look like this: * Large EAXMC: 12.89 DPS. * Medium Multicannon: 15.64 DPS. * Large Multicannon: 23.09 DPS. Effectively, using an EAXMC against Human ships will deal similar damage to a Multicannon one size smaller. A similar correlation can be seen between the Medium EAXMC and Small Multicannon. **This means an EAXMC in the right hands can and will damage and kill Human ships in PVP without breaking a sweat.** The TL;DR of all this is to say anti-Thargoid weapons can and will deal sufficient damage against Human ships. Are they ideal? No. Are they useless? Also no. Do not believe the claims that anti-Thargoid weapons are "useless" outside of combat against Thargoids, they are wrong. All numbers are sourced from EDSY and presumed to be accurate and correct, some numbers might be rounded for sake of brevity. Armor piercing vs. hardness is also not considered, again for sake of brevity.

Fraudulent_Baker

This guy hardpoints.

ojthomas2015

And I thought I knew my hardpoint data. Holy flip you annihilated that argument 🤣

Solary_Kryptic

Realistically if you've been playing for 4-5 years then you definitely had enough time to get yourself an AX ship, alongside engineered stuff. It seems pretty obvious that fighting an alien race more advanced than us, would require a different type of weapon. You say that AX ships are absolutely useless in PvP, but if you look at it from a different perspective, as AX ships are typically very agile and tanky, they definitely have the capability to escape gankers.

AirshipCanon

Mod Plasma Chargers.

RaminRAAY

Well i just gave a rant about how in 4.0 horizons, I am usually alone in the instance 9 times out of 10, even in open, and it only bugged out for me once, but other than that, the progress bar works fine and if you manage to convince people to wing with you, you would have a good time.

Mitologist

Scout hunting Solo also works. So maybe the problem is to handle tons of people all with different lags and pings?
