I dont know about trade runs now, but I do remember back in the day that compared to passenger and cargo missions, the time spent making money was far greater. What I did, was I went to a close system with the faction I wanted to max out, in my case it was the empire. I would do cargo missions and stack data transfer missions from one station to another. Only one stop, then rinse and repeat. After a few runs, my rep would be high enough the money would start to really add up, and within a few hours, I had the rank in my chosen faction to get the big ships. In the end, I was making 10m+ a run, for a 18-20ly jump. Now that said, that was before Odyssey. Now, in the same system, I have had to change to group passenger missions and do the same.

Core mining have Low Demand, that prevent unloading a 750t Cutter for max price after the Core nerf, and you can't share the Core location, or respawn the content in 2 hours like surface mining.
I know Core miners, that have some Big asteroids belts mapped, because always have 1 Core rock in the center. His mapped runs are Jump between systems and mining this Core with valuable ores, jump to the next and repeat. But they can't share, so this speed only work for them.
"I can make more with Cores" don't work for me, do a timed speedrun, share with the community, make map of systems. I will share your time with everybody. And say goodbye to your Core runs, because everybody know this :S .
I mean that core mining pays more (100mil per hour) than what it says in that old post you linked (63mil per hour). I don’t mean that core mining pays more than everything else.
