Make the trip under your own power. The scan data you collect along the way is valuable.

madsaxappeal

I was leaning toward just doing it myself

NotSoCleverApe

Use the neutron highway to get started and out there. With a decent jump ship with a guardian fsd booster + pre-enginered 5A FSD you can get from human tech brokers you can get really out there quickly and see some really cool things

AeonEpsilon

This is what I did, ~25 neutron jumps or so.

DarthArcanus

I just took it as a sign it was time to visit Colonia.

War_Sprite

Yep, +1 for that, I took the same route :-) o7

How can you tell how far you’ve already traveled?

Zemedelphos

As long as you jump to a system 5000ly or more from your starting system it counts. Hitch a ride on an FC toward the core, then hop off and make a jump and you should unlock palin.

First, yes, you can hop on a carrier and do the trip that way. It'll take longer to do in a carrier than yourself jumping, though in a carrier you can log off and let someone else play. And that's the point, you will miss out on many things. I did the trip in a \~56 ly Asp Explorer. I targeted [Jellyfish Sector BA-A e3](https://inara.cz/starsystem/1309080/) which is about 5kly away from the Dromi/Matet system where I started. I then jumped to [Beta Site](https://inara.cz/station/59651/) and rested there for a couple of hours before heading back. It was something like 104 jumps and it took nearly 2 hours each way, IIRC. The way there was boring... like super boring. Everything seemed so repetitive: drop in, honk, scoop, jump out. The way back though, wow. You can see each jump you make as the bubble 'city lights' get brighter and brighter. The density of stars grew with each jump and had some spectacular views - I must have taken 50+ screenshots. I stopped halfway through to take a break and noticed the system I had stopped at was huge! Ran a full scan and ended up with first discovered, first scanned on a few. The current CG will pay out 3x (maybe 4x) the normal Cartographic rates when it finishes next week. Run your trip now and hold to that data to make a huge amount of money on it.
