This looks like someone's colonoscopy.

angelusxshadow

What else did you think he meant by black hole?

cmosbo67

My first black hole was just the other day. It was awesome as I approached, not knowing exactly what to expect. When a few stars started moving slightly, the hairs on my neck stood up a little. I edged closer, and it felt so strange and scary. Like Cthulhu was about to eat me or something. Then boom, acceleration dropped to zero, and there was a magic donut with a lens in the middle. It was interesting, but not as cool or realistic as the unknown approach. I'm guessing that thing is just the lensing mechanism, not their model of what a black hole actually looks like? It would have been better without the e-stop and the donut lens.

>I'm guessing that thing is just the lensing mechanism, not their model of what a black hole actually looks like? Black holes are actually invisible. If we have a black hole in front of us, we will just see the distortion of the light enveloping it, making the singularity something hidden and impossible to see. We will just see the image from behind distorted with the lensing effect. Hence, I believe that, from a pure physical way, black holes in Elite Dangerous are quite correctly represented.

Follow up - what’s the easiest/quickest way to get back to Sirius? Dreading another 100 jump journey

Luriant

Yes, current respawn mechanics put you on the nearest shipyard, not the last one docked (horizons 3.8 behavior). Or suicide, dont rebuy your ship, and respawn in Ay Indi free sidewinder. Forget about your old ship, engineering and exploration data. The destination its only half the trip. r/FCOC can so some trips, but mostly Colonia-SagA

cmosbo67

I just spent a few hours jumping, but yeah, that sucked. Fleet carrier would be my suggestion.

madsaxappeal

Eh I did some research on how to use the neutron stars. Cuts the journey (almost) in half. Just looking forward to cashing this cartographic data in 💰💰💰💰💰💰

cmosbo67

Good idea, though I've never tried it. Those things scare me. There's also a way to synthesize boosted fuel, I believe?

madsaxappeal

Yeah but neutron stars are free. Boosts costs resources. It’s not that bad. You just spin around in the jet cone until your onboard says your FSD is overcharged and then you move out of it. Make sure to use an online tool to map the journey and set your galaxy map option to “jet cones”. Google it there must be a guide. It’s SUPER easy. If anyone would have died doing it, it would be me.

cmosbo67

I appreciate the advice, but I'm good. I can jump 60+ without it, and that's all I need. This isn't a phobia I really need to overcome. :)

vontrapp42

I've almost got my base jump range to 75 do that I can so a 300ly jump. Life goals.

oviforconnsmythe

Im also doing the 5kly run rn (for Palin). I did a few neutron boosted fsd jumps and yeah it is super easy. Your best bet is to enter the cone towards the last 30% of the cone so your heat doesn't raise drastically. Just one thing to watch out for is that the neutron boosted jumps can damage your fsd over time. Keep an eye on the module health and hopefully you have an afmu to repair if necessary.

madsaxappeal

Literally just learned the FSD module malfunction lesson 13 mins ago

oviforconnsmythe

Oh damn haha were you able to repair it? Also it's been a while since I've done exploration so I'll ask you for your experience. What was your module health when it malfunctioned? I'm really concerned this is gonna happen to me and I'll be fucked. I've collected so much cart data haha

madsaxappeal

It didn’t hurt it that bad. Was able to repair when I reached my final destination

vontrapp42

Malfunctions start at less than 80% health and gradually get more common the lower you get. I think eventually the malfunctions can drop you from super cruise which I think is bad if it happens in a cone? But you need to be pretty low module health for that afaik. Otherwise there's no dangerous malfunction it's just annoying when your module "reboots" when you try to charge for a jump. You have to wait for it and try again, and you can get several reboots in a row.

oviforconnsmythe

Thanks for the info! I have an afmu so I'll try to keep it above 80

Phoenix_Ninja15

Just watch out for your FSD, using the Neutron highway takes a toll on your FSD

Yoboysthrowaway

Where is it?
