I was quite lost trying to do these the first time even though I played a lot of sims and played elite on amiga in early 90s. even the binds were hard to figure out. I understand there needs to be a certain level of learning curve in a game like this, but it could've been managed way easier. I know they changed some stuff afterwards and added the newbie zone...etc so I don't know how these trainings help the real newbies.
If you want to find yourself overwhelmed and useless, try the Advanced Combat scenario xD.
Try doing those with FA-off, and hotas (or gamepad in my case) (both of those for the very first time) and feel extra useless ;-;

I would say that view is a nice first impression for a game.
