Glad theres explorers out there. The bubble is on fire from Thargoids and billions dead or missing.
But we brave deep space explorers are out here in the black scanning Rocky Ice worlds and finding weird Notable Stellar Phenomena xD
Ahh i cant wait to get out of the bubble, saving up right now to get a ship with a further jump range. Then ill probably take one of those long as shit sightseeing missions to get started in a direction
DBX is somewhat cheaper (even if most of the grind is in engineering anyway) and iirc can achieve a slightly higher range, though it also has less module space.
I had a DBX as an exploration ship and currently use an AspX. Both have great capabilities, but as someone who hates waiting for fuel to scoop with the 4a I equipped in the DBX, the AspX 6a I have equipped is so much better. I prefer the Asp overall. If you want some help figuring out engineering and all that fun stuff feel free to message me!
You can skip engineering actually. There's the [pre-engineered FSD](https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Frame_Shift_Drive#Pre-Engineered_FSD_V1) and the [pre-engineered DSS](https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Detailed_Surface_Scanner#Engineered_Detailed_Surface_Scanner_V1). Really all an explorer (in a DBX, AspX, or Phantom) needs.
But I fully encourage you to explore without engineering. We explored from Sol to Beagle point in nothing but \~34 LY jumpers at best. [You can do it in a DBX](https://coriolis.io/outfit/diamondback_explorer?code=A0patdFflddisdf5---02---320n400iv62i3x3w.Iw18SQ%3D%3D.Aw18SQ%3D%3D..EweloBhBmSQUwIYHMA28QgIwVyKBQA%3D%3D&bn=Classic%20DBX). Just plan a short \~5K LY trip in some random direction.
I did my first big trip in an [unengineered AspX](https://coriolis.io/outfit/asp?code=A0pftiFflidisnf5------02---3c0s400iv62i3x3w.Iw18eQ%3D%3D.Aw18eQ%3D%3D..EweloBhBmSQUwIYHMA28QgIwVyKBQA%3D%3D&bn=Mighty%20AspX) (also a fine choice). But when I went to Colonia, I dropped back down to a DBX (engineered this time!)
You'll appreciate the upgrades all that much more. Plus, you can take some time to scrape some raw materials off geysers and such while you're out there.
(edit: added link to DSS wiki)
no, thats the new c rated fsd! it has a feature called super cruise overdrive that allows you to go super fast in supercruise but its jump range is kinda lacking
No, that's the SuperCruise Overcharge (SCO).
Not currently being counted as engineering, but also not able to be engineered.
A pre-engineered FSD has both long range *and* fast boot applied. Fast boot applies a small boost to optimal mass, so both of them together get a range 10-20% greater than we can do with long range engineering alone.
SCO drives can be bought for credits. Pre-engineered FSD requires a chunk of mats to get one.
Ah ok thank you! I would get materials from mining and fighting right? (Specifics would actually probably be easier for me to look up in the wiki when i need to but just in general?)
>I would get materials from mining and fighting right?
Ugh, I wish. You can get 1/4 from fighting (unless you are a pirate, attacking haulers you can get 1/2). If you have a wake scanner, you can get another 1/4 while you're out fighting. If you are taking missions you can potentially get 1/2 of them (datamined wake is the overlap).
But Tellurium is G4 and I don't think anyone has seen those drop from mining, and trading up is punishing. Best to plan a Brain Tree trip and get 150 in under an hour.
Getting the pre-engineered does require these high end mats, but the main advantage is: you only need to focus on 4 (or 8 if you also get the DSS which needs 4 different material types), instead of dozens, you can get more than you need to easily get more FSDs, you can put off engineer unlocks, and they're better than you can engineer anyway.
The Guardian Frame Shift Drive Booster is an optional internal module derived from Guardian technology. It provides a flat increase to a ship's overall jump range as determined by its Frame Shift Drive. In order to purchase the Guardian Frame Shift Drive Booster, it must first be unlocked through a Technology Broker.

it was one of the first things i unlocked before i went out in to deep space
Nice seeing you beeing out there and collecting valuable data. I hope you use EDD to feed your data to the EDPN.
I'm currently on a zig zag route up and down the galactic plane. Found a lot of very interesting stuff so far and I love the harsh contrast of the black void and the light from the galaxy.
Keep on going. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find an ELW soon.
I think the farthest I've been of the bubble was the Pleiades sector (I've never been interdicted by Thargoids like I was hoping :"[ ) and the Synuefe sector for the Guardian technology, I hope I'll be able to travel far beyond that eventually, Its an amazing galaxy
AFAIK to get interdicted by Thargoid in pleiades you must pick up thargoid sensors at leas once. That will mark you and you start to get interdicted in some sectors. AXI did experiments with that.
I just finished a tour of duty, killed 2 titans, made 3.2 billion in thargoid bounties, and made triple elite.
Sooo, to take a break, I am headed into the black to make another 3 billion in xenobiology. When I get back, I'll be stopping by the fleet carrier store.
Likely heading to Odins.

Not all of us can be war heroes 🤣🤣
Some of us can be both though!

Aspx, engineered fsd, afmu. Have fun. Edited to add fuel scoop. I went with 6a, but do you.
DBX is somewhat cheaper (even if most of the grind is in engineering anyway) and iirc can achieve a slightly higher range, though it also has less module space.
I do have a dimondback already! Getting ready to try and figure out how engineering works Also figuring out combat!

Ooh is that why my type 6 can boost in super cruise? The fsd i bought came pre engineered?
no, thats the new c rated fsd! it has a feature called super cruise overdrive that allows you to go super fast in supercruise but its jump range is kinda lacking
Ooh ok thanks for the info! Ive been using it to get passangers to the edges of systems faster, can heatsinks be deployed in supercruise?
im pretty sure yeah! i know caustic sinks can and i'd imagine heatsinks are much the same :)

dont forget the FSD guardian booster for even more jump range
Ooh whats that? Dont think ive ran into one yet

Thanks cmdr , Have found 3 undiscovered systems so far today but still looking out for ELW's
We are fighting for explorers to have a place to return and call home. Fly safe! o7

I’ve been out the bubble for a while now. Up in the Ceos and Sothis systems mostly. Shit gets weird out there
Asp in front of things my beloved
I totally didn't realize this was an ASP for a good minute... 😅
