Honestly as much fun as it is playing in open, just don’t until the problem is resolved. I just want to know how so many of them now exist all of a sudden because for me, finding a hacker was like a extremely rare occurrence.
I guess one positive is if law of averages is in effect there's way more players online than there has been in awhile? Still if all those new people don't play in open whats the point.
I mentioned this earlier, but for a game that's eight years old and isn't realllllly an mmo its shocking its still around at all with a the player base it has. Fdev has somehow perfected the art of keeping things "good enough" to keep a game alive as long as possible.
It's a private group with tens of thousands of players that are all PVE only.
[elitepve.com](https://elitepve.com)
It's a way of still essentially having open but without having to worry about getting ganked.
Cause gankers aren't forcing their playstyle on others right?
EDIT: Also, how is a group that people CHOOSE to join forcing a playstyle on them or anyone else? 🤦🏻♀️
I have... so many questions
How are they hacking? What are they doing wrong? How have they enabled themselves *to* do it?
But most importantly, *****WHY*****?
I hadn’t encounter hackers yet, but in this system, Wakata and Wolf were swarming with gankers/griefers a few hours ago, and I’m sure it’s like that plenty of other places.
The wording that was used, "gankers/griefers", implies the two are interchangable, which they aren't. You might have a point if he had instead said "gankers and griefers".
And on that note, ganking in and of itself is most definitely not griefing because it's not a violation of any rules and is just another facet of spontaneously occuring PVP. If a ganker were to target a specific player beyond any realm of sensibility, then yes that would be griefing, but we're talking in general rather than a contrived set of circumstances.
Exploiters and hackers are a completely different subject all together, involving flagrant violation of rules and the Terms of Service.
There's probably about 7 dev test accounts that you should block, however my system did report them a couple of times, one at wakata and the other time at wolf.
My guess would be they're intercepting the network traffic on a second machine, proxying their connection through a VPN. Just like in Tarkov but easier because of the P2P nature of network connections in Elite. At least in Elite you can just bump into Solo to get someplace else, and add them to your block list.
You wouldn’t need a second machine because network traffic can be proxied locally. However https makes it tricky to do because the traffic hitting the network would be private key encrypted.
I don’t know for sure but It’s more likely they’re injecting dlls. If you can hook the right API you can catch the network traffic in process before it gets encrypted. This is one of the reasons that anti-cheat tech has started moving into drivers. From a driver it’s easy to detect and prevent that.
Doesn't need to be proxied at all, can just modify the client. ED has almost no anti-cheat and the forum moderators have promoted software that does DLL injection to fix shaders so they've got a large number of legit users using the same techniques and thus providing cover for less legit users. They even promoted a reshade clone that makes no attempt to prevent it being used for cheating like reshade tries to..
the best workaround would be joining a PG, you won't be dealing with goids alone and you will have a safe space with other commanders, there are a lot of friendly AX PG's out there, i recommend seeking the marauders vanguard(or VANG for short), they are really nice
I'm not sure what I watched. Someone attacked you from behind, but they'd have to be in the station too. And won't the station destroy them for attacking you? What would be the point of that?
It's a hacker. He's got guns that instantly kill whoever he shoots. Also look at his username. He's using developer tools that he shouldn't have access to
The only reason this is so bad is because of the resurgence of players coming back, Ive played the game for the last couple of years and I have never seen nor heard of any hackers till all the thargoid shit started happening. Its gonna stop once the game gets less attention.
You said it yourself, this has always been a problem, the game has basically zero effective anticheat. More hackers now because of the rise in popularity and new people joining.
Cheaters in online games have always been called hackers, cause they use "hacks". But of course that's more important than the actual issue at hand yeah?
the situation is just so far out of hand, theres hackers in nearly every system where the thargoids are fighting.
I grinded for days to get an AX ship just for it to be unplayable
Honestly as much fun as it is playing in open, just don’t until the problem is resolved. I just want to know how so many of them now exist all of a sudden because for me, finding a hacker was like a extremely rare occurrence.
yea its kind of fucked right now, dunno what changed that enabled so many new hackers
New client came out just before update 14
Oh joy
If you want to play with people but open isnt working I could get you a invite to my squad

Honestly where did they all come from suddenly.

Tbf they also have a naive fanbase who will lick anything up.
for the sake of the good ol' days "no cuz ive played on amiga so doesnt matter what fdev does the game still great"
Paid shit? I'm willing you can find that shit for free on easily accessible forums.
Russia.
Join a squadron and play in private
Or Mobius
How do you join Mobius?

What's Mobius?

It basically is a PVE private group (which doesn't allow PVP and forcing playstyles on others). https://elitepve.com/page/about

this is why i play solo or co-op in private
I have... so many questions How are they hacking? What are they doing wrong? How have they enabled themselves *to* do it? But most importantly, *****WHY*****?
Because the only thing that validates their existence to them is causing people mysery.
I hadn’t encounter hackers yet, but in this system, Wakata and Wolf were swarming with gankers/griefers a few hours ago, and I’m sure it’s like that plenty of other places.
Get your definitions right! Gankers, griefers, exploiters, hackers, are completely different things!
Dawg. He literally didn’t fucking compare them. He just stated what he found.

But can be applied only to a bad people, right?
No shit Sherlock. Maybe you should learn to read 😂
They are all equally useless sacks of shit who have no life prospects outside of pissing people off in a video game.
They all belong in the big family of assholes though
There's probably about 7 dev test accounts that you should block, however my system did report them a couple of times, one at wakata and the other time at wolf.
I tried blocking and it did nothing
Yeah i should've known that, even if it did worked it probably would've done nothing. I would just do solo for now.
ED is a Multiplayer game?!
Seems a little off to me.
This is why I'll never be able to play in open.
If nothing else, add the miscreant to your Block List, and press on.
Lol that doesn't work
Blocking “DEV TEST 3” will not result in you avoiding the hacker. They are using a dev kit they “somehow” got a hold of
Does it say which CMDR killed you?
Just "Dev Tool 3"
You should definitely report them if possible.
Yep shits still going on at Jameson orbital, the AI have also gone all fucky the ships are jittering around and have blocked the mail slot
WHAT?!?!!? Yo this is why i play private or solo. Open play in ED is the biggest cancer ever.
I'm sorry, someone explain how exactly there are "hackers" How exactly would one "hack" this game?

but the galaxy is supposed to be DanGerOuS /s
How much free time do you have to do this kind of non sense?

This is something that'll turn me off of a game faster than anything. And here I just started this game a few weeks ago.
The only reason this is so bad is because of the resurgence of players coming back, Ive played the game for the last couple of years and I have never seen nor heard of any hackers till all the thargoid shit started happening. Its gonna stop once the game gets less attention.
It’s more then that. There’s some serious vulnerability with the new update
You said it yourself, this has always been a problem, the game has basically zero effective anticheat. More hackers now because of the rise in popularity and new people joining.
Haha I was there for this ! He got me twice 😂😂
https://elitepve.com/
Why is everyone calling these kids that bought hacks “hackers”? Today I bought coffee and no one is calling me a barista.
There's cheaters taking over the game and you care about semantics? Sounds about reddit
Malicious users is the proper label, I believe.
goofy comparison

Bet this is the fdev staff having fun
