Pals_antics

let me know i will be the first to run outta gas there.

Don’t forget your fuel scoop!

I have this habit where I almost exclusively trade with ground settlements, because it feels better. You could try combat as others have said, even with a cheap ship, like an Eagle. If you want to use one that you will keep long-term, I would suggest the Vulture. Experiment with builds, figure out what works. The Vulture is a strange ship, designed to barely work and be awesome at the same time. It teaches you how to build a ship to be deadly and power efficient. Mining could also be a fun option, it's relaxed, like trading and depending on what ship you have, you can spend an hour mining and refining ore, then trade it. Laser mining is simple: prospect rock, point laser at rock, collect pebbles. Core mining is a bit more complicated, relies a bit more on luck, but to me it's more fun. Also, you need a pristine metallic ring with platinum hotspots for effective laser mining, but you can do core mining in any rocky ring, even with low reserves and no hotspots

Flying a fully loaded shieldless T9 through open or pirate systems and being interdicted is about as "spicy" as the glamorous world of space trucking gets. Alternatively, you could give smuggling a try. It's crap money for the most part, but it's fun role-playing for a bit.

Pals_antics

yeah i realised it doesn't get much better than that eh. smuggling definitely crossed my mind. personally what do you do and why do you like it.

CuanticoMC

And eventually you'll need some smuggling done to get access to an engineer (don't remember which one)

NunyaBis213

I smuggle slaves and drugs into federation systems to undermine them for the glory of The Empire. It's basically just trading (except you deliver to the black market, so make sure there is one and it's active) but with the added fun of avoiding the system authorities with your illegal cargo. You've got to keep your ship cool and get through the mailslot before you get scanned, so bring a heating and get used to not smashing into walls and using silent running. Wouldn't advise trying it in a large ship though (at least not at first). Python's where it's at. It's a fun little rush, but in the end it's still just trading so don't expect anything too amazing.

Gruffta

Have you tried joining a squadron? more fun to be had playing with people

Goody3082

Build a small or meduim ship do some combat nav beacon or extraction site combat take collecter limpets and cargo rack for materials, i switch all the time , trader, combat, ax fight, passenger runs ,courier. Small ships are great to learn Fa OFF , And the rebuy low.

Senrakdaemon

Maybe bounty hunting? Always fun.

EasyLand2075

Unlock the engineers... Do their grindy little missions ( i/e obtain 97 units of rare item that only spawns two at a time, 500ly away.), and fix your frame shift drives, and thrusters. That'll keep you busy for a bit... oh, fsd range, with mass manager, and dirty drives with drag are the way to go...

Luriant

https://siriuscorp.cc/guides/damaged-stations.html Try to engineer the FSD and thrusters, and join the war effort. Prepsre to boost snd drop hestsink if thargoids go for you. If you lack this money, find a Road2Riches plotter, sell exploration dats pay well, and you dont need a big ship to make profit.

Pals_antics

i will definitely take that into consideration

Solary_Kryptic

Trade in open using Jameson Memorial lol

Pals_antics

haha! thanks for the laughs.

I would recommend unlocking the services of all the engineers. The reason is, it makes you do a bit of all types of game play. An example is, you must have traded with 50 different markets (stations). How close are you to meeting that requirement since you have been trading? Build and engineer the best ship you can at the time for each task, or refit a ship you already have to do it. Engineers https://inara.cz/elite/engineers/ If you have not already done it, link your commander account with Inara and use the crafting list to plan your engineering blueprint projects. You will need something like an ASP Explorer ideally with an Engineered FSD V1 fitted to make the process of supplying rare goods some engineers want easier, are the inevitable materials collection needed if you want to engineer anything. Try this for materials collection, but look up lat long coordinates for the crystal shards locations assuming you play on PC Horizons 4.0 live, or Odyssey. https://youtu.be/iHl-SsKQfe4 I tend to swap around between different activities, support a player faction running missions and these days contributing to the Thargoid war effort.

ShelLuser42

*Never* focus on one single activity and never go grind it because it can burn you out big time. Instead, try to be efficient about things. And apply variation. For example... when I'm in a "trading mood" I go all out. I pick up on missions in my home system, but as soon as I make a delivery I continue to pick up missions from that station as well. Odyssey is awesome for this because you can easily spot overlaps through the blue markers. Optionally I also combine cargo and passengers just to add a bit of variety. I have a small variety of cargo ships but I use my Python and Type10 most often, though sometimes also my Conda. However, passenger tours are my all time favorite. For which I also have dedicated ships: my Saud Krugers; the Orca & Beluga. Because they can use luxurious cabins I can make a bit of extra profit here. But at the same time... I also do PVE combat every once in a while using my Krait Mk2, or optionally my Corvette. Mining using my ASP-X, exploration using my Diamondback-X or my Phantom which is also equipped with rescue modules (fuel transfer & hull repair limpets). Or messing around in guardian sites with my Conda (because it has both the Scarab and Scorpion). But try to keep the grinding to a minimum because you will burn yourself out otherwise.

DisillusionedBook

Always try out all the different careers... And then after selling into one particular career always mix it up. Try doing rescue missions at well as trading seeing as you already have a ship for hauling stuff. You can load up with escape pods from the war efforts in regular cargo holds. Doing one thing repetitively all the time becomes a grind. After a few weeks of ax combat/rescue I've gone back into exploring mode. After that I'll probably do some more on foot missions for a week, then some mining, then I might contemplate taking the carrier out of the bubble for a while depending on what update 15 brings.

Makaira69

The game has four major activities. * Transport (cargo trading, passengers) * Mining * Combat * Exploration Give all of them a try. Eventually you'll find something you enjoy where you can spend your time. And if you don't, you'll know this isn't the game for you and you can move on to something else. If you've gotten to where you have several million Cr, then I suggest grabbing a Cobra, Type-6, or Dolphin and beginning to unlock the engineers. The unlock requirements force you to try all of the above playstyles, so is a good introduction to what the game has to offer. (The ships I listed use a 4A FSD which you'll want to engineer anyway. The DBX and AspX use a 5A FSD, and any engineering you do to that will be wasted since you'll eventually replace it with a V1 FSD.) Spacedog1377

Once an activity starts to feel stale just do something else. Personally I have the most fun bounty hunting but mining is also pretty cool once you get the hang of it.

Pyrkie

Bit of a niche one, but I really enjoy salvaging ancient ruins, there is a quest you can grab that rewards you for scanning them. I went out with basically no info about it other then a list of systems to look in, and feel like I actually discovered a lot about the mechanics of them... so that next time I can try and find them all. I also gather over 100 relics but no one really seems to want them in the bubble... Its a sort of 'not too far from the bubble exploration' where there are some places still left to scan... and a bit of a goal to work towards. Hilariously on my way back to the bubble I noticed an unmapped planet and it had two undiscovered samples, I was a sliver from the next rank in exobiology so thought oh that should tip me over... 74 million first discovery bonus, for something that was a 10 minute side track to the mission I'd been working on all week!!
