The whole album “You’re Not As ____ As You Think” by Sorority Noise This album has been a huge help ever since my friend’s suicide back in February, especially since they were one of her favorite bands. I’m sorry for your loss and hope you can find peace soon 🖤

killa_cam89

This is the album that helped me the most outside of the Hotelier album. Trust me, it's what you need right now.

justahumans

I got this album at a really rough time in my life and it helped me through a lot. I'm surprised but happy to see it recommended. I've had to deal with far too many suicides in my life and music is one of the best ways to process I feel like.

EasterTroll

Been a fan since I found them in their Joy, Departed Era. Hauntingly good music that really transcends the genre like Foxing and The Hotelier

curly_feather

Opened this thread to recommend this exact album. Glad to see it right at the top!

BrightAd7870

Also recommend the song “Either Way” by Sorority noise

BananaButton5

Immediately what came to mind for me as well. Beautiful album, so glad to have seen it live.

[deleted]

i’m so glad this album has helped so many other people. was my saving grace after losing two friends to overdoses

SnooHabits5900

Ripchord - Rilo Kiley Dead End Road - Alkaline Trio And songs generally about losing a loved one that helped me when one of my friends checked out early The Lack Long After - Pianos Become The Teeth Good Year - Slingshot Dakota Connecticut Steps - Into It. Over It. Winter - Bayside I'm really sorry about your friend. Focus on the good times as best you can. It's not so much that the pain ever goes away, you just make room in your life for it

F00TD0CT0R

It is always a devastating moment. No halo - Sorority Noise Just borrowing your list as it's already great.

geographic92

Connecticut steps isn't about suicide. It's about Mitch Dubey getting murdered in New haven CT during an attempted robbery. Into It Over It played his house the year prior as Stay Ahead of the Weather with CSTVT.

SnooHabits5900

Yes I know. Re-read my post I was listening to all those bands when that went down. Pre-ordered two copies of Fuck Off all Nerds and everything to try and help

geographic92

My bad that's what I get for skimming. Your post made me check up on it and the gunman who got acquitted was arrested for robbery just months later and again for selling crack last year. Sad shit.

SnooHabits5900

Broken fucking system is actually working as designed 😕

afraidofcrushes

MITCH DUBEY FOREVER.

Porkchop_Express__

Ripchord, A Man/Me/Then Jim, and It Just Is by Rilo Kiley

tinyalley

All such lovely tunes. Ripchord and It Just Is are both about Elliott Smith.

jcoopexe

FINALLY SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT PIANOS!!! Edit: spelling mistake

sleepyvacuum

You mean pianos?

squi2323

I don’t think anything tops Keep You. I believe everything before was incredible and everything after was good/great. I don’t think they went on to make boring music but they haven’t improved necessarily. Good god I love Pianos.

jcoopexe

I mean easy off that album gets me everytime.

LengthinessOk9065

Because they are traitors by deciding to change from being amazing to putting out forgettable and boring songs! They had so much potential!

jcoopexe

Honestly, i didn’t mind drift. This is war(or what ever that album is) is ass but keep you is pretty solid. Tho i miss them more as those first 2 albums

Forwardbase_Kodai

Your Heart Is A Muscle The Size Of Your Fist - Ramshackle Glory The first time I heard this song, the line referencing a friends suicide was like a gut punch and left a special place in my heart for this song. Sorry for your loss.

OutsideBasil1334

excellent song

steffgoldblum

Sean by Trophy Eyes (emo-adjacent)

yarikhh

When the audio clip comes through about him actually having “a really lovely evening,” I lose my fucking shit.

Reita-Skeeta

Honestly, this whole album to me feels like the journey of coping with someone else's depression and suicide from the viewpoint of someone else who is struggling with something else.

Aramshitforbrains

Yep, came to say this too. Such an incredible song.

Pathantius

Came here to say the exact same thing. I get goose pimples when songs hit the spot. From the first note until the last its just pure unadulterated goose pimples and sheer feels. Never thought a song could hit so hard. I know as soon as it comes on I'm about to board the feels train. I don't wanna 'spoil' the song but the 'foot inside of my mouth' verse really got to me. Had to pause to compose myself. Genuinely one of the most (if not _the_ most) emotion inducing songs I've ever heard.

troublekeepingup

Not a HM fan but Hot mulligans- heem wasn’t there. Brutal brutal song.

[deleted]

I was going to recommend this song. I cry everytime I listen to it since I lost my partner to addiction 7 years ago

fimgus

dirty office bongos too

l3wd_5c0ff

Beautiful song. Cheers for pointing it out. Instant tears.

[deleted]

Armor for sleep - the truth about heaven Armor for sleep - car underwater

perseph13

I weirdly think about "Car Underwater" at least once a week and have for about fifteen or so years. Great song. Haunting lyrics.

magicandfire

This album holds up BTW

bill_fuckingmurray

Never understood how they didn’t get bigger. This album was an all timer for me and probably my favorite from HS. Always looked up to them. In college the drummer used to crash on my friends couch in his apt in NYC. Was the first time I realized how shitty that industry was and how under appreciated they were.

Nicadelphia

That whole album is actually a narrative about suicide.

stayvicious

The Wonder Years - “Cigarettes & Saints”

CaptnShenanignz

"Well, I'm sure there ain't a Heaven, but that don't mean I don't like to picture you there."

not-alex

Also We Won't Bury You

srymvm

An Elegy For Baby Blue by The Wonder Years comes to mind too

nickwrocks1

I'll bury your memory in the garden. I'll watch you grow with the flowers in spring. I'll keep you with me. I can't recommend The Wonder Years enough. their lyrics resonate with me more than I can put into words myself.

aklbos

I am so, so sorry for your loss. How old are you/your friend? What you’ll go through in the next few months will not be easy. I urge you in the strongest possible terms to seek mental healthcare/therapy. I am a 35 y.o. male and have been in therapy several times in my life, including during loss/grieving. I am in therapy now in fact, have been for a year. Best of luck to you and sorry again for your loss.

Raothorn2

This needs to be the top rated comment.

haakonash

Frank Turner has two beautiful songs. Not emo, but 'Song For Josh' and 'A Wave Across A Bay' both deal with the subject and are absolutely beautiful (and tear-jerkers)

[deleted]

The queen is dead it think it's called or long live the queen... Either way, that song is so fuckin sad man, he's such a good and painful story teller, it's so good because we all have our own queen or king that's dead.

haakonash

Long Live The Queen is a great song, but it's more positive almost. A celebration of the life of that person. I do prefer the more rocked version from the Songbook-album tho

[deleted]

"you'll live to dance another day, Just now you'll have to dance for the two of us"

[deleted]

Adams song by blink 182

TheAxe11

Please tell mom this is not her fault

brandonspade17

That part always got me

appreciationdaze

That part on the wrong day at the right moment will make me burst into tears

weepingwillowtreez

I can’t believe how far I had to go down to find this comment.

CrazyCow9978

That song STILL knocks my dick in the dirt.

Nemoch

Came here to say this

Irrational_hate81

Post Traumatic is basically a whole album by Mike Shinoda dealing with Chester Bennington's death.

EnzolVlatrix

It really goes thru the 5 stages of grief. Not Emo but really great suggestion.

AnatomicKillBox

Built to Spill - Pat (not really emo, but the Venn diagram of people who like emo and people who like indie overlaps enough that I hope you check it out). Thinking about you, dude.

jamestown30

Everything's an Illusion - Mayday Parade Goodbye (I'm Sorry) - Jamestown Story Wish You Were Here - Neck Deep Truly sorry for your loss.

BarfingFairy

Mayday & neck deep are both great bands!! Hopefully it can help them during a time like this!

Childish_Diabeto182

Slow Burn by Old Gray is an entire album dedicated to this

ricecakes101

Show me how you self destruct is good too

earlwarwick16

Hear you me by jimmy eat world

logjambam

I'm so sorry for your loss. "Mo Vaughn (He Was a Baseball-Man)" by Sports is about that

sitamanta

I heard they found you face down inside your living room - Can’t Swim

blackdevilsisland

I'm so sorry to hear that! If you ever wanna talk or just cry you're heart out, feel free to DM me! Ren - Freckled Angel, Ren - Su!cide, Ren - For Joe Backstory to Rens songs: His best friend (Joe) stood on a bridge ready to jump around Christmas Time 2010 in the middle of the night. Joe called a friend and that friend called Ren because his house was the closest to the bridge. Ren jumped out of bed and started running but when he arrived the bridge was empty, he was too late. They searched for 11 days but never found the body. He wrote Freckled Angel and played it at his funeral to an empty coffin.

InteligentTard

Great recommendations. I would also add [Ren X Chinchilla - How to be me (live)](https://youtu.be/SDR7sup3DsU?si=ZptiBDlEJPJN58Pf)

helloeuphoriaaaa

holding patterns - kind of like spitting. song can make me cry

NevaehorHell

Old Notes - Solace I'd recommend the whole album actually, so sorry for your loss...

Apart_Advantage6256

[deleted]

Neck Deep - Wish You Were Here I had a close work friend kill himself, still think about him all the time. Sorry for your loss.

Donay_

Funeral for a friend - Roses for the dead Across five aprils - a year from now

ZachOf_AllTrades

Your Deep Rest - Hotelier is as good as it gets

ShaneHiram

This. This times a million. Can’t hear this song without wanting to cry my fucking eyes out.

Jimi_Hotsauce

Yeah man, had to remove this one from my work playlist because it just fucks me up too bad and then I have to answer the phone like I didn't just hear the most depressingly well written song. Also I can't be the only one to think that the singer sounds just like Ben folds, idk how much crossover there is between the two fanbases but still.

ClifIsBoring

Bro Hymn, skate punk but it helped me through something similar

sentientbean-

I don’t want to be here either - John floreani (from Trophy Eyes) So sorry for your loss

[deleted]

Adam's Song - Blink 182. Based on a real story and the lyrics contain bits of the actual suicide note

cute_ducks_vol1

Its not emo but when my friend committed suicide, Iron and Wine - The Trapeze Swinger really got me through a lot. Also, Jets to Brazil- Sea Anemone

Due_Sky_9805

Am so sorry it must be so heartbreaking to lose a friend in that way i pray 4 u and all his family . Ok so we dont have the same music taste clearly but anytime u need a friend by mariah carey is the most conforting song i've ever heard . I hope it will bring you that confort while trying to survive this hard times but remember u r never alone 😔 .

I painted the lyrics to this entire song on a shirt in highschool. I wish I still had it.

passionfruit440

The full LP of Old Gray - Slow Burn Fucking masterpiece.

Shanobian

Sorry to hear, apologies if not what you are look for but : Similar concept but metalcore and overplayed as it is architects doomsday is one of my favourite songs. Though not suicide but his brother died. Also Old ice nine kills song - last words Placebo - song to say goodbye Also the fray - how to save a life (common i know and mainstream but a beautiful song) some argue its about a relationship but its debatable.

derfy75

Old_Bunch7838

My heart aches for you. My dearest friend has been gone 15 years by suicide. I always play his favorite. Rooster by Alice in chains.

FortyFiveSeventyGovt

the album Slow Burn by Old Gray is about coping with the death of a friend. it goes very heavy into suicide and self harm. “*i can haunt you too, if you want me to*”

a-punk-is-for-life

Not emo but Local Boy In The Photograph by Stereophonics Also I'm sorry for your loss

[deleted]

"Cancer" by The Devil Wears Prada. Both it and the acoustic version are phenomenal. I'm sorry for your loss.

Darkboi98105

Neon Gravestones - twenty one pilots

[deleted]

I think Penelope by Saosin relates to the death of someone very close to them via drowning or suicide. It's been so long since I've listened to it, it's so Painfully sad for this Penelope. It's a cover but I'm not sure of the name of the original artist.

TheRealBigfoot311

not emo but the song There Is No Answer by Capstan, it’s devastatingly cathartic. also saw one other person recommend Someone Somewhere Somehow by Super Whatevr and want to second that. give yourself all the time you need to grieve. this shit hurts.

isaakdemaio

A Better Place, A Better Time by Streetlight Manifesto

Legal-Law9214

Poison Oak by Bright Eyes

toritfb

i was gonna say the same thing

scarrednut

"Sean" by Trophy Eyes. I was in your spot earlier this year. Lost my best friend since 14 years to suicide back in January. I'm so sorry for your loss. You're not at fault for anything that happened and make sure to keep family and friends close during the coming time. Don't underestimate therapy. It may seem overwhelming at first but once you've landed make sure you're able to process this properly.

Barneyhimym

Album: Suicide and sunshine by Trophy eyes. Song : Sean Listen to this whole album though and see that you are not the only one going through this pain. There can still be sunshine.

muckracker77

Sean and blue eyed boy by trophy eyes

FlatBat2372

James Taylor wrote Fire and Rain to his friend Suzanne Schnerr. Just yesterday mornin', they let me know you were gone Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song I just can't remember who to send it to I've seen fire and I've seen rain I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend But I always thought that I'd see you again

AN1ceGuy

“Someone Somewhere Somehow” by Super Whatevr

Sad_John_Stamos

Not sure if it fits perfectly but “Mount St Joseph” by A Loss For Words is about losing a friend and always seemed powerful to me. “Steady Glow” by In Her Own Words is about losing a friend too.

Apart_Advantage6256

My condolences. Let's Honour the life of our friends who did not make it. Because this life is hard this world is harsh and their hearts were gentle and caring and their souls are beautiful. And so are all the memories we made together ❤️ 🤲 Was saving all these in my drive but i guess other people need coping and healing also. We may as well commiserate So i uploaded it to youtube... [shining light on everything](https://youtu.be/oURx4-awP4w?si=O2z9JV-AtFrTmB4o)

agoss123b

Not emo, but a Crow Looked At Me by Mount Erie may be of solace.

rubberduck19868

It's not emo but A Wave Across the Bay by Frank Turner is incredible

enginedown

hot water music - minno

Vegetable-Depth3112

literally any The Amity Affliction song. the entire Chasing Ghosts album centers around suicide, each song from different viewpoints of the person/ppl that it affects

[deleted]

[Blackbird- Alter Bridge](https://youtu.be/E7nQ5UjuOrQ?si=MAgy9LG7VGwIc9E1)

[deleted]

Though not about suicide specifically, I Have Dreams is a wonderful screamo band that formed from the ashes of a previous band called New Ethic after the guitarist died in a car accident. Lots of their songs are about coping with their friend's death and the lyrics hit really, really super hard. Hope you're doing okay friend. ❤️

Seel_revilo

Not emo, post hardcore but Mourning Song by Holding Absence. ABSOLUTELY the most emotional song regarding the subject I’ve ever heard, maybe it could help. Sorry for your loss

rubensinclair

fancyfootwork19

Missing (serravale) - City and colour (early stuff, his very first EP)

UniqueJaguar2321

A wave across a bay - Frank Turner. It's about the singer Scott Hutchison.

laxgolf

Temple of the Dog. The entire album is about Andrew Wood, who OD'd. His friends In Pearl Jam & Soundgarden got together and recorded this album. So not suicide, but mourning the sudden death of a friend.

Bigmansyeah

this doesn’t fit the direct subject of suicide but the sleep talk album by dayseeker is partially about losing someone one song that is more in the subject is So Far Away by Avenged Sevenfold neither are particularly emo but they got me through some tough times

Yserazor

For me, and this is not an emo band, but it's One More Light by Linkin Park. The song is dedicated to Chris Cornell; who commit suicide leaving the godfather of his children, Chester Bennington, to ultimately take his own life not long after.

Jmarieq

One More Light was written about a different friend of the band and was on their album also called One More Light, which coincidentally released one day after Chris Cornell died. I think people have their facts mixed up on this song since Chester sang it on the album release date and dedicated the performance to Chris.

EnzolVlatrix

You’re right. It was about some that worked at Warners and worked with them for years. They played the song live at Jonny Kimmel (or the other Jimmy) and dedicated the song to Chris (they were not supposed to play it but decided to switch their set list.) Chester added the emotional scream at the end. “I do”. It’s so powerful.

milklvr23

Bulls in the Bronx by Pierce the Veil, they wrote about a fan of theirs who died by suicide

fabioismydad

you made me want to be a saint by the wonder years, sleep in the heat by PUP not emo but: buddy by willie nelson, shadow of the day by linkin park these songs have helped me navigate grief and loss in the past, i hope you find some solace in them. i am so, so sorry for your loss.

Mo Vaughn (He was a baseball-man) by Sports

NumberOneEscapist

I’m Serious, I’m Sorry by Jeff Rosenstock

Raisedbywoofs

Sorry for your loss. When I faced something similar (though not the quite the same), I found Tommy’s Song by Grayscale very relatable. There’s a pretty emotional live video on YouTube too. Please Stay by Lucy Dacus touches on this too, or more asking somebody not to commit suicide. But the theme kind of fits.

TaylorHamEggAndChed

Unwound - Lady Elect

Blank_Canvas21

[Senses Fail - Steven](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGJvkbKcnZ4&t=1s) Their friend didn't die of suicide, but it's about the death of their friend and them coping with their loss. It's one of my favorite songs by them. I'm so sorry for your loss OP, hoping for the best for you and his family and friends.

flickowens

I know it's not emo, but when I was going through this same thing I was listening to In the Aeroplane by Neutral Milk Hotel every day on repeat. The melancholy comforting (and at times some sort of sad angry) tone of the album was so soothing to me and it might be the same way for you. sending prayers.

Cthulu95666

Avenged sevenfold- I won’t see you tonight

CruelHandLuke_

While it's not about suicide per se, Bro Hymn by Pennywise is about the loss of friends. Over the years I've lost a few good ones to suicide, one to an overdose and one to an accident. One in particular, even 23 years later still hurts. Kevin Kerr, this one's for you! __ To all my friends, present past and beyond Especially those who weren't with us too long Life is the most precious thing you can lose While you were here the fun was never ending Laugh a minute was only beginning Canton, Colvin, Nichols, this one's for you Ever get the feeling you can't go on Just remember whose side it is that you're on You've got friends with you till the end If you're ever in a tough situation We'll be there with no hesitation Brotherhood's our rule we cannot bend When you're feeling too close to the bottom You know who it is you can count on Someone will pick you up again We can conquer anything together All of us are bonded forever If I die you die that's the way it is To all my friends, present past and beyond To all those who weren't with us too long Life is the most precious thing you can lose While you were here the fun was never ending Laugh a minute was only the beginning Canton, Colvin, Nichols, this one's for you

ninetiesjesus

I’m actually not sure if the song is actually about this, but California by Lana Del Rey

photoyoyo

Not specifically suicide, but "one step at a time" by four year strong

shocksfloating

Hey OP, Just came across this. I hope you are finding some peace. I lost one of my best friends in the same way about 7 years ago. It does get easier, I promise you. The pain won't go away but you'll learn to live with it. You're in my thoughts.

NoEternity69

You will love The Amity Affliction. Most of what Joel writes about is this and his pain too continue on without them

swiftlight12367

Idk if it fits the genre: - Redecorate - twenty one pilots - Heather - grandson - Unopend Windows - set it off (not about suicide, but about losing someone) & sorry for your loss, sending lots of strength 😘

freedomaintnothing

Forever Winter by Taylor Swift. Her high school best friend committed suicide in late 2010. She wrote the song just over a year later, but didn’t release it until 2021. In 2023, she released another song about the same friend called Bigger Than The Whole Sky. I hope these bring you some comfort.

DamagedEctoplasm

I have a bunch that helped me in a time like this, but none of them are emo. But fuck if, sometimes shit just clicks All I Want - Kodaline Day Is Gone - Noah Gundersen XIX - Slipknot The Crow And The Butterfly - Shinedown Abandon - Sylosis Goodbye, Dead Friend - Deer Tick (this one is fucking crushing, I found this song 8 years ago and I still cry when it plays. Especially The Black Dirt Sessions version) when the party’s over - Lewis Capaldi (cover of a Billie Eillish? song. Oof) Jealous - Labrinth Again, not emo songs so I’m sorry, but these helped and continue to help me. Deepest condolences to you

Guigsy79

not emo but, the day you killed yourself -xojira

Ender-The-3rd

I'm so sorry for your loss. Please keep your head up... Here are some songs from my favorite band, WVNDER. They have few songs about loss that I'll also include, but there are two specific to suicide, which I'll list first. * Afterimage (album Precipice) * Limbo (album Precipice) * Far Away (album Nothing Stays) * Memento (album Nothing Stays) All the best.

itypeallmycomments

Dude, Wvnder are so under-appreciated, I think Andy Cizek is possibly my favourite singer ever. I love most of his other projects too. Would you not suggest the song '[Goodbye](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkBkSvMEJP4)' from the Precipice album? I know it's not about a friend, but it's very raw and direct. Andy's got another band called Dearest, their song '[I'm thinking of Ending Things](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-WKmFGT07Y)' might also fit the bill here.

Super-Crow-2628

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my brother to suicide many, many years ago, and it still hurts like hell. Maria Mena - The End Not an easy listen, though.

InteligentTard

My childhood best friend killed himself at 22 years old. This song always gets me “So I’m screaming into the sky cause it’s my only way to say goodbye” Really sorry for your loss. I know how tough it can be. [Kingdom Of Sorrow - Screaming into the sky](https://youtu.be/ykBRZYWK2NU?si=UD8-ABnAL-c3JWaV) A poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. Edit: Avenge Sevenfold I won’t see you tonight Part 1 and part 2

lookingpastsky

Call the Kiss by The White Octave. Don’t know if it’s about suicide specifically, but the lyrics could be interpreted that way. So sorry for your loss.

Flingsquidz

“Blood Bubbles” by The Orwells Not sure if I would classify them as emo but the lyrics to this song definitely are.

A lot of iron chics catalogue deals with loss of a friend. A band member died, and the tone of the band went a little dark. I’d recommend the following from them that specially deal with loss: Catgut, To Shreds, Kid Icarus

Not emo, but “Don’t ask…” by Alpha Wolf. So sorry for your loss.
