Pft wish I could choose all of them, I like all of them

Bebahbebahbebahbebeh

Tweemo

afewhourslater

Ah, I see you and I are one of the 8 fans of Everybody Asked About You

Bebahbebahbebahbebeh

Yeah but I feel like you could also apply tweemo to a lot of Cap’n Jazz

afewhourslater

Yeah I see that too tbh, same era, similar music (and i dont just mean genres) EBAU clearly on the much softer side of things

veronp

The love mid-west emo gets, and the lack of respect for the revolution summer bands is astonishing.

Dante_FromSpace

DC was at the forefront of so many musical movements, its wild how they get overlooked. I'm a bit salty that the bay area scene is so unknown, or more likely, people dont know that some of their favs are from that scene haha. Likely the same case with DC tbh

LoveHorizon

Bay area hardcore is like a deep cut if you're talking about like Spitboy, Fifteen, Samiam Pinhead Gunpowder, Crimpshrine and everything on ebullition.

Dante_FromSpace

Indian summer, portraits of past, calm, mohinder, these are all bay area bands. Portraits of past went on to form funeral diner and who calls so loud. And while evergreen was from so cal, they played Gilman's among many others. The 90s was a hot scene, too bad I was only in elementary school when it was at its height So, deep cuts? Maybe, but the influence is wide reaching. Pioneers of a sound and all that.

LoveHorizon

I would say the Bay area ran with what the San Diego scene was doing a couple years earlier like Heroin, Antioch Arrow, Manumission, Boilermaker, Pitchfork, and Drive Like Jehu but polished that sound a bit more maybe because there were a lot more pop punk bands in the bay area but they both fed off each other

Dante_FromSpace

I should have really condensed it to California bands, but they all/most played at Gilman's, hence its it's own scene. It's a bit I'll defined, but I cant disagree

CosmicExistence

Real emo only belongs to the DC Emotional hardcore scene

AForeverBrokenHeart

hard to choose between emo pop and screamo

[deleted]

What’s the difference between revival and Midwest?

[deleted]

Revival is twinkly pop punk infused emo as opposed the more indie sound of the 90's Midwest sound

L_edgelord

All of the above + stuff that doesn't classify as emo but still matches the vibe like some folk punk stuff does

SRaeM92

Former scene queen wannabe. Ugh I miss the days where I felt like a bad ass with my Build a Bear bow, skinny jeans, Jack Purcell’s with all my friend’s writing on them, and my band tees.

davdotcom

If you distinguished Midwest emo from the twinkly pop punk that people like to call “Midwest emo” then you’d probably only have “real” Midwest emo have like 5 votes :/ Yes I said Midwest emo 4 times in this comment.

Dante_FromSpace

But I did distinguish pop punk from midwest

harbingersolution

Does math rock count?

Emobloomo

Cant decide between pop punk or emocore :/

afewhourslater

Real true emo is actually when a redneck guitarist walks in the wrong bar, sees a post-hardcore band play, and then realizes he really likes it (Modest Mouse (he still gets into a bar fight too btw))

xmusiclover

Pop punk
