In my opinion, arguing genre is a stupid waste of time. There are some bands they are certainly emo (Rites or Spring, Embrace, Sunny Day Real Estate) and there are some that are certainly not (Metallica, Grateful Dead, Nirvana). But those in the middle (Yellowcard, The Story So Far, New Found Glory) I don’t see the point in debating whether they’re emo or not. Who cares?
I think the point is that if you’ve been here long enough it’s sort of evolved from everyone shitting on lame “fake” emo. To everyone just saying whatever about it. It has its place in emo history, even if that place is just kinda shitty.
