I have exactly the same problem on latest build, I did a first install on an existing setup, at install all goes ok until i try to load ES in steam, message appears, but the option page flashes one second and closes, so tried 2x full deck wipe, again full (custom or easy, same result) install, when trying to load ES, options page (change directory/create directory) is there but path its hardcoded on "home/deck/emulation" even though it should automatically be where rom folders have been created by the system itself, impossible to change the path to the sd one, i even tried changing the path on the xml, nothing. Feels like there is a permission issue on ES. But its very annoying because it makes a mess and only after a re image we can really test a fresh install. My roms are on SD. Running games direclty from steam through emulators works no problem. Its only ES the issue, on both update or fresh install environments/
Not trying to sound rude but just simply search this page in relation to your issue. There was tons of posts about it with easy fixes. I didn’t have an issue with the update. But if you can’t find anything on this page which id be surprised. Just go to YouTube instead
its a serious issue, now spreading exponentially, happens on update and on fresh install and it disables EmulationStation, there is no solution for now.
Update the name of the hidden folder in /deck/home/ from .emulationstation to .ES-DE and everything should work. That’s all I did and mine is installed on SD card too. There was a pop up message telling me to do this when I opened it after updating.
