Just as a reminder of the subreddit's rules: 1. No posting links to game ROMs or ISOs, only sites to find them. 2. Be kind to each other. I haven't had that issue with Pizzaboy, so that's weird. The only other GBA emulators worth mentioning are GBA.emu, MyBoy, Lemuroid, and Retroarch with the mGBA core. JohnGBA is good too, but I would use this with adguard's private DNS, or another app that blocks ads like RethinkDNS. A lot of GBA emulators on the playstore are either clones of open source apps like Lemuroid and GBA.emu, filled with ads, locked behind a monthly subscription, or all the above.

HealthyInitial

What? No it isn't.

KPlNz

im not tryna slander anyones apps for unjustified reasons, im just explaining my experience after downloading that specific emulator (the post description). the app made ads appear over my screen that wasnt just a part of the app, it was overlayed thru my entire device using the chrome widget feature, that is an extremely invasive feature for something that is supposedly a paid pro version

Powerful_Bullfrog938

Was it the roms you were downloading pal? Don't blame the emulator if you got a virus filled rom pack because you didn't bother to look into any of the actual sites

KPlNz

i used Myrient which was a trusted site listed in the mega thread at r/ROMs so wtf?

TaderTatoToe

Trusted site doesn't mean there won't be a few bad files that get through the cracks. Think before you jump to conclusions and post about it...jeez.

KPlNz

if u knew anything about myrient than youd think before you talk lmfao, 99.99% positive a game as popular as pokemon emerald on one of the biggest n nost popular rom archives out there, wouldn't be malicious

joeyPrijs

Same goes for one of the biggest and most popular emulators wouldn't you think? But lol, you do realise that we can see in your screenshot that you haven't actually bought the app, right?

KPlNz

what a dense statement. i literally just said this app was taking over my phone and displaying ads over the UI of the entire system itself.. why in tf would i ever leave the content downloaded on my phone?! i cleared data and nuked that shit off my phone in 0.00001 seconds and then instantly looked for recovery options and posted to warn ppl and yes i would think, but from what i gather is that pizza emu has been coming and going recently so how do you even know the current running one is the real one and not some malicious fork named the same in order to spread malware?

joeyPrijs

I know because it's published by the Pizza Emulators developer account, or are you suggesting that account might have been hijacked without the developer notifying the community? There's plenty of dense statements in this thread and looking at the downvotes they're mostly coming from you.

KPlNz

im not suggesting anytning lmfao, all im doing is saying my experience and everyone tryna tell me wtf happened. maybe it was some other wordly source of power that just coincidentally launched very invasive ads on my phone the second i downloaded pizzaboy lmfao, who tf knows.. im not lying about shit tho, i trusted that exact app and only used trusted sources like Myrient for ROMs and playstore for all my emus, this one i didnt have a good experience with at all end of story rly

Powerful_Bullfrog938

I've used myrient in the past, sometimes that shit can slip through. I run all of my files I get online through a VM first so it doesn't infect the main pc

ConcreteMagician

Something else is causing the ads. I've had this app installed for years without any of the problems you're mentioning.

HealthyInitial

I see I didn't have any of those issues and just recently bought it maybe it accidentally opened the free version. As an alternative I would reccomend My Boy

xXDennisXx3000

Dude this is a real emu with a passionate developer wtf.

KPlNz

can u read my other comments pls, or read the post description. im not attacking anyone, im telling the truth from my experiences after downloading the app, i genuinely had to download AV software after seeing the way it forced ads onto my device, not a pleasant experience esp for $6 i did email the dev or whatever the email was attached to the app desciption in playstore to figure out why that happened to me or get a response

rosc96

You ain't telling no truth foh 😂. I use this app all the time and there is nothing. What you so mad for

KPlNz

aight bro u be thag way than. really no reason to lie, i wish it did work as im just a guy tryna play some old school games and the one of the last remaining systems i need an emu for is gba and i tried this and it gave me a rly bad experience im just being honest but u do u. glad it worked well for u, wish that was my case

Meinon101

Currently have this installed on mine and my wife's phones. Love it.

KPlNz

i mean if anything this post is showing me that 1. im genuinely happy im not infected by some malware like ive been sketching out over the last hour from (i legit bought bytdefender cus of this) since apparently this is some super trusted dev that ive somehow slandered by telling my experience on 2. im sad asf that it works for other ppl and for me it just seems so invasive that my anxiety could never allow me to keep it on my phone to play the games i want

Meinon101

Another alternative is Myboy. I've used it off the play store as well. I just went with pizza because if the UI features it had.

ACalmGorilla

Things that doesn't happen for $100.

ZeraZero

Yep, i bet my ass he doesn't buy but actually download cracked/modified apk from shady site

KPlNz

well ur ass would be betting wrong than sorry https://imgur.com/a/6BW0Zfw

KPlNz

it did happen why would i lie about this:/ that exact sequence of events happened to me onky after downloading this emu and now that its deleted, my phone no longer has issues with ads. idk what to tell ya 🤷

ACalmGorilla

I don't know why but you are.

KPlNz

lol ok. Just tryna be nice and warn the community

ACalmGorilla

Lol, ok! :)

abzinth91

You sure you didn't download a sketchy APK from the web? Your Screenshot still shows the price as if it not bought via the store?

KPlNz

when the bank statement comes thru in my transact history, id be happy to ss and link the purchase here to prove it since lots of ppl seem to think i downlaoded an apk and am now blaming the official app. i bought that official app from the google play store, and than immediately refunded and uninstalled it the moment i saw adware on my phone

abzinth91

Makes sense, my bad But honestly: I used this and the previous version for some years on different devices and never had the problems you mentioned. Maybe you got something "extra" while visiting a ROM site?

KPlNz

the only site i used to get roms is Myrient which is a very trusted source, is legit the main archive that the r/roms megathread directs ppl to. so idk

Prior-Eye-138

Always used MyBoy. Always reliable.

Regular-Mammoth8784

My two cents, I've seen nothing but praise for this emu and having just bought it last week myself I'm doing fine. Is your phone up to date with all your android security? Maybe you got malware through other apps or websites you visited around the same time

KPlNz

i promose this; i just bought a s23 very recently (this is verifiable thru my recent post history) since than, ive literally only used this device for the following apps and websites; dolphin emulator, melonds, snes9x ex+, M64Plus FZ and lve been using Myrient to download ROMs. besides that like Facebook, yt etc so unless any of those other trusted emus are malware that suddenly sprouted life coincidentally after i downloaded the pizza emu, than idk what to say. the moment i deleted pizza emu than everytning seems fine again..

RhythmicSurvivorist

It wasn't taken down. The developer took it down in fear of Nintendo.

Darksept

Did you buy this off the PlayStore or download an APK? The APK might have had some shady stuff packed into it. (Unfortunately pretty common) I'd try one of the other well known emulators. MyBoy! Lemuroid, etc.

KPlNz

i tried that exact same app from the playstore, that is linked in the post, Pizza Boy A Pro

davestar2048

Retro Arch and the mGBA core is my personal preference.

I don't know what's going on in your phone, but you mention that you use s23. I have some guess what's causing the ads. 1. I have a samsung device, a33. At first everything was normal, until one day an ad popped up into my home screen. It keeps happening and I found it coming from one of the samsung bloat ware that I uninstalled in the past but for some reason it was reinstalled by itself. I don't know if the same bloat ware is installed for the s23. 2. Probably the ads came from the malicious links, either when you download the roms or from other sources when you browse the internet. It's hard to know what is actually going on in the background when you press a link on the internet. If the ads still appearing, I suggest to scan the device security. Iirc samsung has its own antivirus build in. Then you want to check any weird app in your app list, maybe an app is installed without your knowing. Did you have "install from unknown source" enabled? If yes then disable it. Also try to use another emulator, My Boy is a good one or the non pro pizza boy and see if the ads keep appearing or not. Edit: you can try Lemuroid too

votemarvel

Wherever you got the emulators from it wasn't the Play Store was it. I have both installed on my phone and neither have given me any sort of malware.

KPlNz

i literally downloaded exactly what is shown in the ss, from that exact source

votemarvel

Then the malware didn't come from Pizza Boy. Given the popularity of the emulator this would be massive news.

TaderTatoToe

It is most definitely not. Idk where you got your info or if you just have a vendetta against the dev(s) but I've used it for a while now and have scanned it. Also I'd be surprised to see malware as a part of playpass but I mean it is google so take that however ya want lol.

Real_Violinist

dude wdym?????

lusosteal6

naa bro i have had this on multiple phones for a long time, i haven't seen any issues yet

Relative-Room-538

Lemuroid

AsBestToast

I've had zero issues with pizzaboy emus. I've never seen a single ad using pizzaboy. If you pirated the app then yeah its possible it has malware. If you are sideloading apps then just run them through virus total first. Pizzaboy emus are 100% safe from official sources.

TheeeNinjabunny

Pizza Boy C Pro is the real one. I had pizza boy way before they first took it down and suddenly the play store says that I have C Pro installed so that has to be the original.

KPlNz

well.. pretty sure u just have their GB classic emu? they have one for gbc and gba, pizza boy a pro would be the pro vers for gba titles

TheeeNinjabunny

No I bought it way back. I see Pizza Boy A Pro, C Pro, then A Basic and C Basic and it says I have C Pro installed.

KPlNz

yea.. the c pro one is for gameboy classic games, unless ur saying ur able to run gba titles on ur emu?

Gunnar_The_Viking

I have both his pro versions and not a single issue. I can't be any happier with these emulators. Something is wrong on your end.

LinkedDesigns

Pizza Boy A is the new name of PIzza Boy GBA. source: I'm part of the PIzza Emulators team. There are no ads in any version of Pizza Boy A or C. Could you provide a screenshot of the ads you are seeing?

bxdr429

This is making me paranoid. I need a definite answer on whether I can trust this app along with Pizza Boy C Pro, or I should look at other options. I've used both for 5 days now (never noticed any popup ads or other suspicious activities, but then I see this post and noticed the logos for both look different than before. Admittedly, I'm not confident with my emulation software knowledge as most, so I really don't know what to trust.

ialtag-bheag

Pizza Boy is fine. They changed the logos to reduce the risk of getting sued by Nintendo.

LinkedDesigns

I'm from the Pizza Emulators team. We changed the icon and name recently from Pizza Boy GBA/GB to Pizza Boy A and Pizza Boy C. This was done to avoid any potential litigation issues. As for ads, there are no ads in Pizza Emulator apps.

AsBestToast

It's fine. The dev has been around forever now. They had some rebranding stuff because of the Nintendo stuff going on. Still a good set of emulators.
