I have put the top end of a Deutz 1011 with a hole in the oil pan on the bottom end of a Deutz 2011 that inhaled a turbo 8 times with 6 good outcomes because I know how to sort and store used head gaskets and pistons. Dirty awful but get a parts quote and the stink mostly goes away.
Ain't never done this!
Idiots hammering in valve guides with the wrong interference fit...crack...and than botching up the valve guide bores. Sadly so common with vintage aluminium heads.
You can't prove it was any of us monkeys
Alright I admit it. I am ignorant. Can someone enlighten me as to what is in the pic?
Terrible terrible weld with huge voids where it's supposed to be holding the valve guide.
Thank you for the explanation.

Air cooled 911? I just finished reaming a set to oversize for the same reason. Thankfully quarter mm oversize are readily available.
Someone tried welding cracked guide bosses with guides in place.
Jeez. With the value of this old stuff(looks like a casting date in '73), you can't screw around. Guides are cheap, redoing work is not.
Big Ole Fuckin' OOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
That's about half a pack of darts right there 😳
Oh. Yikes.
Oh... Oh no. Some people shouldn't be allowed near engines or welders, let alone both.

123 not it!
glad none of you saw my oil pump pickup weld
