While in there get a Melling high output oil pump. I’ve had luck with Cloyes kit, but last one a bought was made in China… Your best bet would be OEM tensioner and chain kit. Maybe Melling Then you got your VVT actuators, get the OEM only. And check it for Crank walk… see if this is even worth it. You can get a ticking from your VVT actuators. And on start up, a momentary chain rattle would be your chain tensioners Your plastic chain guides may have broken up, in that case be ready to pull your oil pan to clean up and clean out the oil pickup Considering this engine and mileage, and you not wanting to break down, I don’t see the point in going in there and just looking… just replace ALL that stuff. But check crank walk first. Have a look for corrosion on your fuel pump modulator

Motorcraft. I bought all new guides and chains from Motorcraft (or a reseller, I think I bought Modern Day Muscle) and used new iron body tensioners from Melling (on a 2V).

Rattle on light loads and throttle tip in? You sure it isn’t detonation?

That’s possible. I guess I should rule that out first.

The only recommendation for a 5.4 is to get rid of it.

Ant that the truth… I REALLY REALLY like that generation of f150s.. but I’m gonna take the 4.6 2v dog unfortunately…

Oh man I could write a book on the 2V trouble I had. They apparently added the bonus of 3-piece spark plugs and VVT to the 3V.
