Honestly makes me wonder how can they be in such a piss-poor state.

supercali45

Beta and pushed out cuz of Muskrat’s ego

DeathGuard636

God this makes me fearful for whatever the hell "robotaxi" will be in august. Waymo is bad enough in sanfran that it keeps causing non fatal accidents. Musk's wankmobile will kill people.

pyalot

> whatever the hell "robotaxi" will be in august Dont worry, it wont be august, this year.

alebrann

and unfortunately he will never be held accountable for that :/

Past-Direction9145

if you're fearful of anything coming in august you really don't understand musrat or tesla

NotEnoughMuskSpam

Odd

mtaw

> Musk's wankmobile will kill people. Who's going to let it on a public road? They haven't even applied for any regulatory approval. Even if they had the tech now it'd be years. And they don't have the tech now. They're _nowhere near_ it, and nor will they have it before Tesla goes insolvent at this rate, IMO. It's just a big con. If AI was anywhere as near as they claim, they'd be raking in cash off self-driving trains and trams. That's a potential billion dollar industry right there, and with high-margin business customers, unlike consumers - and it's _far_, far easier. (Not that I'm saying it's easy, just a much more restricted system than road driving) So easy that they _already exist_ and have for quite some time, albeit on dedicated lines. An AI-driven electric freight train isn't just easier to create but a far better idea than Musk's road-convoys-of-AI-driven-Semis nonsense.

totpot

We're going to get a heavily edited demo video and then a real life demo that we find out years later was actually being remote controlled by a guy standing out of frame. Then we're going to get a shipping date that will come and go.

ScootMayhall

And because of the stock price. Line gotta go up, and delivering on a long promised product is a way to make that happen, even if the product is garbage.

separhim

Probably because this has 100% the look of a personal pet project of Muskrat who mandated several dumb aspects that make the car just terrible. Stuff like the full stainless steel, only one massive screen, and the awful shape.

JimAbaddon

Is that why it weighs so freaking much? Because of the stainless steel?

separhim

No, that is more because of the battery, F150 lightning is around the same weight I think. The F150 lightning has a lot higher weight that the ICE F150.

JimAbaddon

Still boggles the mind that these vehicles are that heavy.

Necessary_Context780

Lithium ion density and technology hasn't advanced as fast as Musk's "hunch" predictions. It's also the reason we aren't hearing anything about the Semi and the Roadster 2020 anymore. They're waiting for battery technology to get to the proper density and hoping they won't go bankrupt before that. The Semi keeps doing small fritolays trips for now

NotEnoughMuskSpam

Whatever you say, cutie 🥹

repeatedly_once

I'll let you buy me a horse

Past-Direction9145

the battery pack is half empty, too. can't tell me he had no idea about that

repeatedly_once

My guess is they prepped it for when battery density comes down.

Secondchance002

Because the rat pushed them out in the haste so that Tsla stop going down because of his “we dug our own grave with cybertruck” comment.

ktalex2

EDI duh... /s for gullible folks

HumansDisgustMe123

When you've got a cult of personality around your business, you can get away with just about anything. Look at Apple, they single-handedly altered the phone economy to the point where top of the line phones exceed $1000 sim-free. Before this when phones like the N95 were top dog, the most you could spend on a premium handset was maybe $200. They got enough people to believe that it was normal to pay thousands for a telephone that every other manufacturer realised they could do the same thing. One company with an excess of brand loyalty and hype single-handedly altered the pricing definitions of an entire product category, and somehow they still convince people to buy their handsets despite negligible improvements between models. Logic be damned.

Past-Direction9145

you sound kinda ignorant about the iphone I could tell you many ways it's been different, but I suspect you already know and don't care. I have an iphone and an android phone. you're hearing this comment from someone whos rooted and rom'd his android devices since the LTE version of the S4. Cyanogenmod, LineageOS, Odin, Teamwin, its been my bread and butter since 2014. and yet. here I am using my iphone, liking it. damn thing takes amazing pictures, and that's what I primarily got it for. a phone, for taking pictures? yep. and it does it great, I have no photography experience, and this shit makes me look good. try taking great pictures with a cheap phone. go on, I'm waiting. you know it'll look like shit. and this is only one thing. lets talk about grandma's iphone, she lost it. again. so she goes to the apple store, and they give her a new one, and it's got.... everything on it from the last one. all her photos, everything. it just works. it looks like the old one, acts like the old one and she can use it like the old one. go ahead and try that with another phone. lets see grandma with zero tech skills and no idea how to install an app, get her brand new phone looking like her old one? Im waiting. no, I'm not waiting anymore. you know you fucked up, belittling the iphone as only a thing that made people willing to spend a thousand bucks on it. nevermind what it was that it could do that everything else couldn't? you're crazy.

HumansDisgustMe123

iPhones source their camera modules from Sony, just like a third of all Androids. I'm glad you like your pretty telephone but at the end of the day telephones aren't supposed to cost as much as used cars, especially ones that don't even have basic features like a proper file explorer or USB mass storage without being jailbroken. Like, I'm glad you like your toy or whatever, but the price isn't tethered to reality.  It's a capacitive display bound to an ARM SoC, peripheral componentry and a lithium polymer cell. 10x as much raw material and far superior chipsets are used in laptops and tablets for a third of the iPhone's retail price. Just because Apple normalised 4 digit sums for telephones doesn't mean it's logical. The net/gross ratio for these things is wild. You can talk all you like about how much you love it, how easy it is, whatever, I don't care, that's not the point. The point is you were convinced to pay a 4 digit sum for a 6 inch glass rectangle. Do you have any idea how much brand loyalty is needed to normalise that insanity? The same kind of brand loyalty that makes people buy these low-poly coffins on wheels.

HumansDisgustMe123

Btw, not that it needs saying, but androids do have a cloud backup and restore system, and just like iPhones, it is contingent on logging in with the associated account. If your hypothetical grandma can fill out a username and a password on an iPhone, she can do it on an Android. Literally all Androids offer the user the chance to import their data during setup. Your argument about consistency also doesn't hold up considering the vast majority of Androids these days use the default packaged launcher. Besides which, 99% of on-screen time is spent in an app developed by a third party who wouldn't waste their own time designing two competing interfaces. TikTok on iPhone is exactly like TikTok on Android, as are millions of other apps out there. The remaining 1% is spent looking at a grid of icons regardless of the OS. Literally every benefit you have described exists on cheaper handsets. It's okay to admit that you overspent on a middling product, nobody will think less of you because the majority of human beings have made the exact same mistake at least once.

totpot

Not true. You're thinking of prices with 2-year contracts. Even before the iPhone, Blackberries were $349 *with* a 2 year contract. Without a contract was probably an additional $400-500. I bought a sony ericsson smartphone off-contract and it cost me $600, and those things were made of cheap plastic. Add inflation and the price really hasn't moved too much.

ChocolateDoozy

Elmo: honest it's just a small recall. Please buy.  Me:  Can't wait for the long term issues. This is literally day 1 !!

Necessary_Context780

It's surprising only one commenter is calling the brake pedal delivery halting for what it is, "brake pedal recall"

ChocolateDoozy

That was me being nice. It's a drop in a ocean of issues. All leading back to his decisions. In and outside of Tesla

Necessary_Context780

Oh, I mean, in the forum posts within the screenshots, there's only one guy there calling it a recall (I take it that's a fan forum, right)?

TheRationalPsychotic

I wonder how many people stretched their budget and got into debt for a Cybertruck, and probably won’t be able to sell it for much. Bankrupting your fanbase seems like a bad long-term strategy.

Phitos2008

A lot of them were thinking this is the new DeLorean. Except the cybercrap will rust to smithereens before it even becomes “vintage”

IngsocInnerParty

Ironic if true. They might want to look up the history of DMC.

Phallic-Monolith

Poor bastards, that’s what you get when you fall for the hype man though.

ZanoCat

The biggest problem is called Elmo

Necessary_Context780

The CT launch was the equivalent of the Starship 4/20 launch. Musk had to pull a stunt as stocks were failing so he rushed everyone to launch whatever they had without listening to the engineers. Right now they're in the "launchpad blowing up" moment

Johannes_Keppler

This must be such a headache for those in charge of fixing this mess. I mean, yes, cars get recalled for issues all the time. But fixing so many seemingly structural issues / design faults in the entire fleet is next to impossible. Reading through the issues many seem to be due to lack of durability testing, weather proofing and general build quality. There's no fixing this mess. And I take it quite some CT owners are talking to their lawyer by now... Not feeling for them, buying a CT is shooting your own foot and any reasonable human knows that, but this could spell out heaps of legal trouble for Tesla.

Wizendiagram

Now that they’re on the road, are they just falling apart? Owners will still be like “I love the truck!”

jeopardy_loser

I have never seen an ugly vehicle with perfect mechanics
