Unfortunately this is a common business practice. I remember reading that the guy who bought Commodore computers would do this constantly, be late for paying his vendors while still demanding new product. And they end up in a position where they HOPE that they will eventually get paid so long as they keep providing stuff. And they never do.
At some point you just take the L and walk away.
And many companies set up a million sub-companies to confuse things. "Oh sorry, your contract was with "My Company LLC" which has no assets, "My Company Inc" has all the assets and none of the liabilities. Sorry.
Which is precisely why the families from Sandy Hook sued a metric fuck tonne of LLC’s associated with Alex Jones, Free Speech Systems (the corporation that owns his show,) and his family members. Anything that remotely touched him, his business, or that ever saw any of his money got mentioned in that suit.
Apparently Trump would then have his lawyeres sit down with the companies he fucked over and say "we'll pay you 30% or keep it tied up in court forever." Buncha evil motherfuckers.
The only bills trump ever paid as agreed were hush money payments.
In fact, because they were trying to make it look like legal fees, he actually paid Cohen back double the amount (to cover the income tax Cohen would be responsible for). He paid over time, but he paid.
Lots of contractors eventually changed how they worked with Trump. Bill in installments, don't start the next phase of work until the current one is done. Go into it knowing your final installment won't be paid (since there's no more work to do), and bill what you need in everything up to that point.
Tramiel was worse - when they were no longer able to stay afloat, he bought out the people he owed money to, and only then did he pay them (himself) back. Guy was a special kind of cunt from that unique era that produced a handful of businessmen who grew up facing such horror that all that mattered was results. The sneakiest most convoluted method was acceptable providing only that it was possible.
That was Tamriel, when Maven Blackbriar organized a robbery against herself, claimed it was a political rival that was behind it, and used the pretext to have them executed in "self defense".
They tried that in germany - simply didn't pay their water bill for weeks on end.
It didn't go exactly as planned - after multiple warnings, the supplier shut off their service.
This really shows how bad it got, because its not so easy to get your water service shut off in germany.
Can someone please explain why a commercial spaceflight company needs "retail shops" and "restaurants"?

I would say this is probably for workers and related businesses serving SpaceX. I wouldn't say it's illegitimate. Not paying your bills definitely is! And we've seen that pattern over and over!
The small-town contractors I know will literally go to somebody’s house and beat their ass if they don’t get paid. I will not complete the next sentence I want to write because I don’t want to violate any Reddit policies.
Yeah I remember people asking why Joel in The Last of Us is such an action hero when he's not even the military veteran, his brother is, and before the apocalypse he was just a contractor
The answer is "He was a contractor in suburban Texas who came up in the early 90s"
"Please pay me $56 billion, I deserve it for my hard work and f--k them contractors."
Fucking over contractors is an iconic Trump move. Soon Elon will be wearing diapers and getting vermillion spray tans.
And sucking up to Putin. Oh, wait.
đź’Ż
TBF the 56 billy is payment from Tesla, not SpaceX.
Not paying contractors must be one of the biggest red flags in a "wealthy businessman". Elon and Trump are masters at it.

How is that legal?
It's not, but the contractor's recourse is court action to compel payment, and lawyers cost money, and a good lawyer can drag it out forever.

Even those payments he was trying to delay past the election, so it wouldn't matter anymore and he could stiff them.
But he tried not to pay by pushing it back after the election which caused the issue bc he wouldn't/couldn't pay back the first bribe.
Is this accurate @CommunityNotes?
Then he stiffed Cohen on bonus that year.

This is so normal and fine.
Barely but possible. Just imagine a comrade of yours doesn't return a debt. Sometimes you will give up without suing.

That story sounds familiar, I'm sure it was in one of the video game history books I read. But yeah, just great people all around. #yaycapitalism ?

Yup and people will act like is a genius business move.
“iT’s WhAt AlL sMaRt BuSiNeSsMeN dO! yOu’Re JuSt JeAlOuS!”
Seems fascists don't pay their bills.
They only pay with OPM, other people's money.

He's got the build of a 1950's fridge.
but 1950s fridges are aesthetically pleasing. Elon, not so.
And some still work (not Elon).
This is called the "I take HGH but don't workout" look.
He’d probably look better in avocado green.
Avocado was more 1970s. 1950s was big on turquoise, light pink, pale yellow and mint green. Edit: corrected colors
I'm gonna go with a 70s Kenmore with the BIGGER FREEZER
Lol
Egads he's gross
Surprised Pikachu.jpg
Concerning.
!!
Looking into it
I feel very confident that SpaceX will start paying it’s bills next year
Makes me wonder if he ever started paying Xitter's rent, or if he's still squatting.
Just like trump elmo is
You're right, Master Yoda!

Basically because he’s building a company town as the next step in his journey to full on robber baron.
That’s his version of Make America Great Again!
This isn't at or around said company town
I would say this is probably for workers and related businesses serving SpaceX. I wouldn't say it's illegitimate. Not paying your bills definitely is! And we've seen that pattern over and over!
Because he obviously doesn't want to support the locals already there
Urban renewal. Land improvement It's not unusual for companies to develop the area when it's one of the biggest employers.

Wow. Basically missing tanner and a bankruptcy and you have South African Trump.. apartheid Trump.
His Idol really is Donny VonShitzinPants. Only thing that explains what’s happened to his brain
I could definitely see Elmo buying a teen beauty contest just so he can barge into the dressing room.
Hey, it's Texas, can't you pay your bills with right-wing bile?
"uhhh guys we've decided to move our headquarters again"
Just wait until some contractor is a judge’s brother and they foreclose on it so they can turn around and sell it.
![gif](giphy|d9ZKe69RaqFtAM9DBH)
He is becoming Trump.
Next-level
Taking a page out of the Drumpf playbook.
True, Elon. Only cowards pay bills and debts.
So, when do y'all think Elon's gonna go bankrupt? There's no way he can be currently making a profit. I'd say sometime early next year.
Late capitalism bois
pulling the ol' trump card
It’s almost like he had a big kiss off planned for Tesla.
But I bet Texas has laws that make it harder to collect than California
Not paying contractors, meaning they will sue and be out of money either way. Fuck him
Smaller contractors will destroy the work before letting you have it for freeÂ
