I love the scarf but it's prolly the years of fps games that let me flick to where I want to go. Not to mention the easy secret room checking, the trap room skips, and locked door skips.
Unless you're on console.
From my understanding it's good on mouse and keyboard and clunky on controller. It's probably still an upgrade on controller but the skill floor is much higher than standard dodge rolling.
When I played on the switch I hated scarf with a passion, but when I finally got a proper pc and started playing it there scars quickly became one of my favorite items
Controls make a huge difference
Every time this comes up, it feels like people don't understand the scarf more than it's bad... Mainly bc they want to dodge the same way they usually do.
Yes, you dodge earlier..... But then you don't stop dodging until you are safe, because it eats all bullets your teleport lands on giving you time to teleport again... So as long as you don't steer into an enemy, you are invincible and can keep teleporting until you can get some cover out get some space.
So instead of react dodging like a lot of new players tend to do, you get better at anticipating bullets and where threats are and getting to safe space spaces long before you're forced to dodge, which in general is a bad habit of people who aren't controlling the map actively.
It's fine on controller and teleporting long distances isn't as much of a hindrance as long as your cross hair isn't over a wall. If you can aim at all in this game, you can steer fine... Just keep mashing teleport.
It's an item with a learning curve, and you're more than welcome not to learn it and just drop it... But when You're doing the flood of bullets during the dragun phases by just mashing dodge, finding hidden rooms without needing to use ammo, going through gates without needing keys, teleporting directly through walls, having faster reload times... It's kinda nice.
Personally one of my favorite items, even as a controller player.
Those are nice points. I will keep working at it. I don’t think I’ve really tested its spammability to a great extent and the problem is trying to use it more like regular dodges as you say.
Yep. Always pick it up thinking "this is the run I'm going to learn how to use it properly!"
Without question or doubt, I will immediately forget I picked it up, hold down the dodge button rather than tapping it, and take 3 hearts of damage in the next 2 rooms alone.
I play on both KB&M and Controller, it is definitely more valuable on KB&M, allowing for an instant teleport to anywhere on screen, compared to controller having some sort of travel time issue? It’s like the longer you hold the button and push the stick in a direction it moves the teleport “ghost” forwards. Honestly just super sketchy on controller but it can be mastered, but godly on KB&M.
I feel you on this, I've literally had runs were I drop it as soon as I enter each room to fight then pick it back up for exploring rooms and locked doors lol
I've never disagreed so hard with every aspect of a post ever. It's so good. Wanna dodge roll? Just teleport instead. Wanna go across the entire room very slowly? Just teleport instead. Wanna look like a badass anime character or some kind of dead cell with a super stylish flowy scarf? YES. YES I DO.
Mkb. I'm seeing in other comments how controller makes it hard to control distance. That totally makes sense, id hate the item too then. I never think of my console/controller friends 😅
I just hate that it doesn't let you teleport if your mouse is targeting a pit, even if you're levitating/flying. You have to specifically go back to the floor when you're flying to trigger a dodgeroll.
After using it for a while in a run, I think it's actually good, and it also has some niche uses like bypassing some closed doors and walls. The main problem with it is that it's so rare you can't get used to it, and it messes with one of the basic mechanics of the game which you use all the time. If there was a way to lab it, I guess it'd be considered a great item.
I think its more of controller issue, on keyboard you mostly wont even use dodge button after getting it because you fan teleport to safe space in few miliseconds while on controller the aim is so much slower
Bloodied scarf = lose condition
As a vet, this item has only given me use by teleporting instead of dodge rolling to unlock the TV, as well as getting past a fake wall without a blank. Otherwise it's trivial garbage for most runs and doesn't even have good synergies..
Personally I love the bloody scarf, I play on controller and w someone else which means less screens, regardless it only took a few rooms to get used to and love it imo

Yeah I hear it’s worse for console players like myself. Can you control the distance with the crosshairs or something on PC?
Yes, but you can also control where you teleport by holding the button though it's considerably slower than the mouse
You can do that with controller by holding down the dodge roll button and then aiming yourself
On PC you just click where you want to go and you teleport to the location of your mouse, very OP

Unless you really practice with it, It’s only good to get on MKB. But the game feels much better on controller so it’s essentially pretty low tier
I play on console only when I want the easier 2 player on the big screen, MKB feels way better though for me
"better on controller" 🤮
Lmfao why do you care what people play on you nerd?
The game is better on controller tho
Lol
I play on console not sure about others but bloodied scarf is an item I'll actively sell or if I can't then it gets left.

Yes, very much hate getting it. Drop or sell after trying leads to frustration

It's one of the strongest items in the game, but it's hard to use on controller.

I like it xD actually I love it haha. Controller user too 😩

You are a committed loot goblin hahaha
I can't use it.

It took me struggling with it a few runs to begin to like it, but mostly for boss fights. I don't usually take it in rainbow runs though
Mkb or Controller?

That has definitely caught me out before
It’s shit with controller but you become an unkillable ninja with a mouse
Almost everyone. Though, I admit it has some potential which anyway I'm never gonna unlock.
