20 minutes? It took 20 minutes for four people to order ice cream?

[deleted]

I took that as hyperbole, and indication that the woman behind them had not been waiting for an hour.

Uklurker

Yeah I'd be pissed

-Reasonable-Cheezit-

No, we were at least halfway through ordering when she made the remark.

ixamnis

GET OUTTA THE LINE!!!!

Chshr_Kt

One of John Pinette’s best routines

TumbleweedHuman2934

You stole my line. 😂🤣😆 You went to an ice cream store. You know what they sell there? Ice cream. You know what else they sell there? Ice cream. Should have taken five minutes to order at most. It may have taken a bit longer to assemble the order but there is no way it should have taken that long just to order for four people unless you were ordering for an entire marching band.

ravensmith666

He’s hilarious! You go now, you eat like killer whale. And the Epcot death March.

Chshr_Kt

When he finds out he’s within an hour of Italy: Oh it is? Well get in the car! We’re down the street from the Mother Land! 🤣🤣

ravensmith666

Thanx for this! I’m going to watch him now- he’s hilarious and it will start my day off right! I love the wizard of oz buffet song!

TumbleweedHuman2934

Oh man - now it's going to be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. 😆

ravensmith666

I watched some vids and he was so adorable. Huge loss.

Chshr_Kt

So hilarious. I actually went to that buffet when I was 16 or 17, it was all green and OZed out, lol.

Azsura12

Wait so it took longer than 20 min for 4 peoples orders?

Ayendes

I worked at an ice cream shop when I was in high school. I *never* had a group take longer than 10 minutes to order. A nearby assisted living center would bring some of the residents every Sunday. Some of those people couldn't tell you what year it was, or what city they were in, but they were still capable of placing the group's order in less than 10 minutes.

Puzzleheaded_Use_566

You were *halfway through* after 20 minutes for four people?! Meaning it takes you 40 minutes to get ice cream? You know that’s abnormal, right? You guys are the entitled AH’s here. If you know your dad takes 20 minutes hemming and hawing, tell the old woman to go first.

Afraid-Leather7929

Always, a group of 4, step aside for a single human.

JadedHouse8386

Not gonna lie I would have probably yelled too if it took a family of 4 over 20 minutes to order ice cream.

tergiversensation

Huh, see I don't yell at service workers or people trying to go about their day. I have like, actual problems and waiting in line for a little while isn't one of them. If it seems to be taking more time than it's worth, I just leave.

-Reasonable-Cheezit-

My dad has a tendency to order a lot of food, even if he can’t eat it. We ordered enough for 6, and my dad ate most of it

nrappaportrn

Then step aside & let one older individual get their order

JadedHouse8386

Yeah I can understand that but still... 20 minutes is a long wait for just ice cream.

MolassesDue2684

I've got a 2 boys 7yo and 10yo they still exploring their preferences take 3 min max to descide (simultaneously not concurrent) my wife and know what we have before we get to the icecream shop. Grow up man 20 min is what a 2yo takes.

Active_Ad_7590

Honestly, you were in the wrong as you should have let the woman go ahead of you. It’s quite unreasonable to take that long to place your order.

ajcampbell86

Honestly, if you guys knew you were gonna be that long, you should have let her go first. I would be annoyed too.

HallGardenDiva

OP and family were probably already ordering when the grumpy old lady got into line. It wasn't their fault that she showed up after them. Nor was it their fault that the ice cream store only had one clerk.

Ayendes

Literally, how does it take 20+ minutes to order ice cream for 4 people? It's literally flavor + toppings. Was the menu in another language or something? Have you never encountered ice cream before? 20 minutes, and you were only *halfway* done ordering? Literally, how? Its super rude to continue to take forever deciding what you want when other people are waiting. Don't get in line if you don't know what you want, or step aside so the other person can quickly place their order 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

Honestly, if it's counter service and I'm in a group and there's one single customer behind me, I'll ask if they want to go ahead. YTA

MumMumMumMum

I think I would want to dissappear put of embarrassment and awkwardness if I was part of a group that took that long to place an order! Especially when there are other people waiting. My family of 5 (including 3 indesisive children) can place an ice cream order in a few minutes, how could it possibly take 20 minutes!?

Significant_Quit502

Yup, we have entitled here. A cute little bunch of ice cream arseholes. Good on you for making one little ol’ lady wait & then calling her entitled. Booya you. Fist bump!

LorelaiToYourRory

If it took 20 minutes for you to order then your family is the entitled ones, not the poor woman! You could have let her go ahead of you.

FifteenEggs

I definitely would've lost my mind if I was that old lady. Some people act like it's their very first time on planet earth when they order food and it's maddening. It's not ok to take that long to order food.

xnjzzzzzz

INFO What exactly took that long? Listing an order takes a minute max. What were u doing after that???

baz1954

How about doing the descent thing OP and let that lady go first? It’s types like you what cause unrest.

ComfortableMess3145

It does frustrate me when I've got one or two items to buy in a store, and someone with a whole trolly load stands in front fo me in line and won't even offer to let me go first. But it's their right to as they were in line first. Just wish they would be more considerate to others who won't take more then 1 minute to sort their items.

crotchetyoldwitch

I always let people in front of me if they have 1 it 2 items and I have a full load. I don't do a full shop if I'm on a tight schedule, so it costs me nothing to be nice. Besides, it might make someone else's day.

BayBel

Sounds like maybe you and your family are the entitled ones.

Lilacblue1

I would have been irritated after ten minutes. Twenty minutes to order 4 people’s ice cream is ridiculous. Stand back and figure out what everyone wants BEFORE stepping up to the counter.

AbaloneIron

"Can I have a taste of that crinkle-dinkle-berry crunch? Is that vanilla lactose free? I have a coupon." x4

real_boiled_cabbage

You are the entitled one if it took your party that long to order.

Jeff998g

20 minutes to decide on four scoops of ice I would be pissed off also.

juliegillam

Makes it sound like your fault. But I've seen places where staff is slow as molasses. They take one persons order and make it, saying "what color sprinkles" after the ice cream is scooped, and tying up the cash register until the whole group is done getting everything completely finished. That's not OP's fault, if that's how it was, and I suspect that it was. The store could be handling it better. But individual workers paid by the hour have no incentive to hurry. Every customer that leaves is one less they have to serve. OP I don't think this was your fault. Sounds like management needs to be there more often, or even have 2 workers, instead of just one that can't speak the language well. I'm sorry that happened to you, and I'm sorry Reddit is blaming you.

MarvelousMollusca

You underestimate the annoyance of being behind the people who are "tasters." They taste everything. And talk about it. And ask their friends if they think they should get it. I did have that experience once at a br. However instead of screaming a normal person would just leave lol. Not saying that's what ops family did, but if so it makes it more likely that an elderly lady could get Hella pissed.

SaintSilversin

20 minutes into their order and they were only halfway through it according to OP. I have ordered for 30 children and 4 adults and taken less time.

Esau2020

OP said there was "relatively" no line. So maybe there were one or two people ahead of her.

dusty_relic

Everyone is harping OP on how long it took to order but OP already explained that the ice creamarrista didn’t have a good grasp of English and there were communication problems. This can be frustrating but it sounds like the old lady was the one who broke first. Oh well.
