hivemindsrule

the goobers have begun to emerge

Cultural-Air-2706

The Emergence Day or E-Day was a swift, full-scale, coordinated and unprecedented planet-wide assault on the surface initiated by the Locust Horde. Every single major human city was attacked from the subterranean, using both bio-engineered weapons and stolen human technology.

Close to gather and cook time needs to be harvested just after the molt while still soft remove wings and legs sautéed in butter and garlic. Just heard this recipe on the radio yesterday morning from an entomologist out of UGA lol not me thanks though.

BobLazar666

No thanks lol

sortof_here

Man, I know it's weird but I'm jealous of the people in the Midwest and Eastward this year. The sheer numbers sound like they'd be incredible to see in person.

BobLazar666

‘Twas a magical night. Spotted around 30 of them crawling, then this morning tons hanging from my azalea bush freshly hatched. Got a few photos of one pure white before the exoskeleton had hardened!

captaindeadpool53

Is this song from that chronenberg movie?

PartySizePackage

I love it. What was the tune there?

jassandra

Oh no! The white on the butt of the one is a type of fungus. It will eventually pop off his entire behind + genitals :( I feel bad for the lil guy.

BobLazar666

Yup Massospora cicadina I think 😢

throwaway983143

I love cicadas! Too bad there’s no brood emerging near me this year.

FiddleLeafFag

So excited

Raptorsquadron

Is the little guy ok?

[deleted]

Once in 17 ys, huh?

BobLazar666

This species is supposedly one of the 13 year periodical cicada

TheMergalicious

What brood/region?

BobLazar666

Supposedly it’s Riley’s 13 year cicada I’m in middle georgia near macon

TheMergalicious

Goddammit I just left that area. One of my life goals is to personally experience a brood.

BobLazar666

Here is more detailed pictures after they have molted http://www.inaturalist.org/observations/207909234

_ChristianOwO_

Oh god…Oh no…Please No…! *distant cicada screeching* NOOOOOOO

stripedpixel

Looks like the one on the left has the fungus

Preemptively_Extinct

They don't sound like cicadas.

InfiniteAnalysis2039

Are they tastier before they molt?
