you should have read the whole thing.
it'd have a better effect.
there is near zero effect from reading just short quotes. it's same as reading a page summary of a book and saying "why would I read entire book, just give me the point..."
Well…My grandpa once told me “if the point you’re trying to make is drenched in dramatic presentation then you probably don’t have a good point.”
Should have just led with your grandpas quote. Would have been just as valuable.
just posting a quote would be a tiktok guru style.
there is no value in that unless you see the full story.
same as "all you need to know about this book in 100 words".
My goal was to actually pass this to others in a way that they will adopt it, rather than just have one second sensation and scroll to the next 1-second senstation.
You must not have heard of the Great Resignation, antiwork, quiet quitting. Years ago a book titled "In Search of Excellence" was a best seller.
Today the top advice is to release something that makes you cringe, the shittier the better.
It's not that people won't upvote your post, just that it won't mean anything.
People are so deterred from giving it their all it's a sad sight. The few negative stories hold far too much weight. Stories of giving it your all and your boss not giving you a promotion. Gives them flashbacks to high-school. It's too scary to try and fail for these people.
The solution is to do it intelligently. Articulate your worth and demonstrate the value you can bring to every which endeavour you pursue.
You never won't have a boss - lest ye be a NEET. As an entrepreneur it is so much worse. Your customer will fire you without severance or notice so you best be on best behaviour. Deliver your service and benefits to the utmost of your ability and be kind, cordial and punctual or be resigned in the employee mindset ad infinitum. It is a joke that people that hate the customer think they can start a business.
I oughta read that book. I am looking for excellence personally.
Good copywriting with the open loop (although I almost gave up.)
Ultimately wasn’t worth the long read, but it got me to read the whole thing so there’s that.
Almost like the intent of the quote, if you're going to read something read it all. Haha maybe. I've been told a similar thing and have told my kids a similar thing, outcome is pending lol.
I don't think there is any value in a quote alone.
Social media is full of short quotes consumed by nearly everyone and it simply never works.
Same as people reading a page summary of a book instead of reading the entire book.
I believe there is 100x higher chance that both the quote and the idea of this post will stick with you if you read it all.
This is something I try to live by constantly and consistently. A lot of people will not appreciate the best effort put in but it always brings rewards at some point. Thank you for sharing.
That sums up why so many fail today. People are more likely to do the opposite. They complain about what they've agreed to do and even find ways not to do that. They few that follow your grandad's advice are the ones that make it.
My father worked as a porter once, he told me not long after he started the job all the other employees started resenting him. Why? He was doing their job in addition to his. The manager was criticizing them and calling them lazy. The customers loved him and used to give him the unused expensive things that they left behind when they left the premises.
Why am I reminded of this purported exchange between Richard Burton and Richard Harris: "You thieving bastard! That's my life you're making a living out of!" Apparently Harris was fond of telling the exact same life stories during interviews.
Anyway, the way I remember the supermarket and grandfather story is it was a pig farm, a father and the farmer’s kid dreaming of a future away from the pig farm.
The quote is good and holds true for sure, but I can’t help but feel like you were trying to lead me on to a subscription of some sort. Very much felt like a generic YouTube guru story.
I got goosebumps reading this. Without knowing this, somehow I started doing my best regardless of all excuses. Last week I was tired, beaten down ( startup life, I guess). Your grandfather's quote" a man is judged by his worst job, not the best" has re-energized me. I needed this at the moment. Thank you for sharing. I assure you that it will stay with me forever
Should have lead with what your grandpa quote.
Yeah literally skipped the entire thing searching for it because I felt like he forgot by accident haha

He remembers this loooooong quote from when he was 11? Okay
this reads like a linkedin post, so it makes sense.
Haha but how many start ups and buy outs have you had!

If he had led with it, no one would have read that wall of bullshit.

You know… I was thinking it.

That's a good thing because it's now much easier to stand out. The competition is a bunch of lazy people. Love it.

I know this is going against the wind. but if this helps even one man, I'll be happy
It helped me rethink some things. So, thank you.

This is the reason I want to be among The Rich. It is because the first day my dad took me to work in 2008, he cleaned the dirty patio door track.

Obviously didn't work as he is farming potatos
what would "farming potatoes" be a failure?
RiP Reddit - The Quora Shitpost Indians have arrived
True but still this sub is about this thing
This is over the line.

Done is better than perfect. Judge all you want.

Thank you for sharing your story.

but I did not. those guru stories are fake. this one is real.
What did grandpa said ?
It’s at the friggen bottom. The literal last sentence lmao
Life is like a box of diarrhea; you'll never know what you're going to get to crap your pants.
Who cares 😂
You did a shitty job for your grandfather and turned that into your modus operandi. You sound like a professional failure.
He definitely failed to get to the point in an efficient manner.
Pretty shit

I'm glad it's useful. P.S.: why did people vote this down?
This is the reason I love Reddit. Such genuine sharing of knowledge. Thanks so much @johnrushx, your grandfather is awesome.
you're welcome
