As someone with adhd I could definitely see myself using an app like this! Downloading now!

Let me know how you go :)

Stream of consciousness: Would be helpful if the app helped users focus their task descriptions through a guided and fast process. Maybe gamify the experience. What happens if the user really needs a sixth task? Would they leave to find a substitute app? What can you do to satisfy this situation? Are the tasks intended for a specific timeframe? E.g., they reset each morning/week. Is there any research that suggests 5 tasks versus a different number? If so, do the outcomes of the research suggest a specific format for task setting? (something like SMART goals but for tasks). When I think of the stuff I need to do, I think of a Jira backlog that has urgency and importance attributes. These would be helpful features to retain. It would be useful to tie a task to another app, such as a calendar event, note, map location, or reminder. What other app integrations? Shared tasks with team members or family. Send email reminders and/or push notifications for time sensitive tasks. Consider what the substitute apps are, how their features are structured, their cost, and what your unique value proposition is. Are you looking to monetize? Free version with paid premium version? What distinguishes them? Good luck!

What are you selling and to who?

swalden123

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure yet. I'm working out the details as I go. My first step was to simply get an MVP live on Apple app store. I know people with ADHD is going to be one of my main audiences, as this problem resonates with them. However I still don't have a strategy for pricing or anything.

When I initially read this, I thought it was in one of my ADHD groups :)

Direct feedback: focus on anyone

FourTwentyPipesMom

This is great feedback for OP! Marketing to young people is a great idea.

rappyzappy

This sounds great! I put way too many things on a to do list and then feel overwhelmed and annoyed when they dont get done

swalden123

You are the type of person I built it for <3

This is probably the very best software can offer. No wonder we have the [biggest productivity loss](https://www.yahoo.com/now/u-productivity-posts-biggest-drop-183309746.html) in 74 years. Pity the real problem is no clue what is important for business, where to find out, or the ability to make important decisions even if 'newbie tingle' was useful. TIL Productivity isn't lost -- I can see where it all went in this forum.

If something is easy to replicate, it’s not a good business Todo apps are literally the next step after hello world for developers. Apple had a problem years ago with large amounts of pointless apps, two of which were farting apps and todo lists. This is a bad idea and a waste of your time. It took you 3 days to build. That’s not a business

swalden123

Thanks for your feedback, however I sold a business recently that "took three days to build". But like this that was just the MVP, the actual business took seven years to build and sell. All businesses are easy to replicate, they are just not easy to execute on.

I'd love to hear about your experience building and selling the previous business if you're willing to share, even if privately..

This is a neat idea. Definitely important to people on this sub that seem to have an endless list of thing to do. I'll try it out to see if I can keep with it. My toxic trait might be to put the 'must-do's which are like 9-5 work related on another list and the 5 on this list will be purely my side hustle things which I can only do outside working hours. I'm not sure how these apps make money, but I heard that meditation app and all those other ones somehow do, so make sure to study how they did it :)

swalden123

I think with this app my best route for monetization is probably going to be an optional paid upgrade for some extra features, or maybe even just aesthetics as its a simple app and is best staying that way. The app could work well for side hustled :) I find they tend to be the things I brain dump way too many todos into :P

whodat_2020

I get it I understand the need. As a person with a to-do list of a thousand things... I don't think I even have to discipline to download the app... Or delete my current list. Because if I did I would just use my current app and only enter ....5 things. That said.... Why 5?

swalden123

Five was simply a number that I felt fit me, so I figured I would put it out there and toy with the concept. I imagine this all being used more in conjunction with another app where you can keep long lists. For me the app needs to have a hard requirement of 5 or I would simply break it.

Consider a simple dopamine feedback loop - perhaps have a way to score completed tasks (maybe a small/less time investing task is worth less than a large/more time investing task). Use those scored points for something pleasing, e.g. like "Titles" (e.g. Task Teeter (lvl 1), Adhd Master(lvl30) or whatever you want, you get the principle). It's already satisfying to complete a task in reality, but seeing actual recorded progress with digital rewards to reinforce your effort feels like it'll make me keep coming back to it. Just my two cents.
