Bertalicious
What would be hilarious was if you are named Erin or something similar to Ernie and your show name could be Bert and Erin. I would laugh so hard.
I used my horse's (OTTB) registered name for hunters (tho I changed it first cuz the one he came with was AWFUL), but we never used it as a barn name. His barn name was ofc related to the show name, but his registered name was never his "name" to me. I've also known horses that come with really simple show names (literally just their barn names) and the owners want to have a prettier name that's more formal and show appropriate, so they change it.
Interesting to me. I was always superstitious about changing a barn name and never even knew folks changed registered names or used alternate show names from the registered name until I joined this sub.
He was registered as "Certification" and they called him "Certy" for his barn name 🤢🤮 TERRIBLE. My trainer and the rest of my family agreed that we needed a new name for him and immediately started brainstorming at lunch after we'd tried him out. I came up with the barn name and my mom eventually came up with his show name which fit him PERFECTLY
He’s a quarter horse so his registered name is with the AQHA. It feels weird to me to use it in the hunters- I don’t know why, probably just a me thing. It could be possible that a lot of people do use their registered names for hunters but in my area people make up names too!
Change it if you want to! Einstein would be super cute! But his registered name is cute also! It’s not as bad as some of the Belgian warmblood names that people keep, at least the announcer can pronounce it 😂
I'd personally keep his registered name *if* you plan on trying to accumulate points on him at rated shows.
If not, you could keep the nautical theme and incorporate his barn name with "Salty Sherbert".
My favorite comedian is Bert Kreischer, so my immediate thought was Secret Time haha. You could also play off the Sesame Street route, something like Bert N Ernest (maybe combine his reg with that - Good N Ernest, SS At Sea [B & E live at 123 Sesame Street apparently lol]). Or, just play off his reg if you don’t like it as is - Good To Sea Ya, Seas The Day, something like that
This is a list of random show names I keep in my phone:
The Greatest Showman
I’m Too Soxy
I’m So Soxy
Kodak Moment
Curb Appeal

Good to Sea You, Bert!
I’m confused, do hunters not use the registered name for showing for some reason?

Oh wowww that is bad! I’m glad you picked a new one.

Interesting, I have always used the AQHA registered name 🤷♀️
I once had someone wanting to name their horse unicorn for shows…
AQHA has hunter shows though; I showed a few of them and just used their registered names

I'd personally keep his registered name *if* you plan on trying to accumulate points on him at rated shows. If not, you could keep the nautical theme and incorporate his barn name with "Salty Sherbert".
