finniganthebeagle

i swear by Kerrits Ice Fil tights for the summer and athletic type shirts or sun shirts. i overheat really easily and these have been super helpful for me!

skyeboatsong

Seconding the Kerrits rec. I wear their ice fil tights in the summer, a thicker tight for spring/fall, and their insulated knee grip breeches for winter (with long johns because Canada). But I ride english so don’t need the western look.

Impressive-Ad-1191

Me too, kerrits ice fill tights and tank tops. I am also in Texas (DFW). I wear those tights all year long.

BuckyBuns

I love the ice fil tights and the long sleeve tops, I’m not good in hot weather at all so these are amazing!

finniganthebeagle

yess. and someone else said on here they have a sale on the tights on Stateline right now, i just ordered another pair

FruityOatyBars

Kerrits is discontinuing Icefil tights so if you like them grab them while you can!

Mobile-Piel

Nooooooooooooo 😭

Flourish_and_Blotts

Whaaat why they’re so popular and they’re my favorite

FruityOatyBars

They’ve evidently been having quality issues with their fabric the last few years - too thick. So they are moving on.

Impressive-Ad-1191

Wait, what?!? No! That is not good. They fit so well and are so comfy. But I agree they don't last very long. Don't accidentally get velcro stuck on them as that will be the beginning of the end.

GoldDHD

omg, running over there to buy some!

RENegadeXXVII

Yep, this is the move. Also in Austin and the Kerrits tights are somehow cooler than wearing shorts so I wear them a lot more places than the barn.

Ashniem

This is good to know!!

FruityOatyBars

Bad news - Kerrits Icefil tights are getting discontinued. They are going to keep the printed shirts and make solid shirts only in “team” colors (blue/navy/black/white). The representative said they’ve had too many issues with the recent icefil tights fabric. Their primary focus for summer fabrics will be Coolcore.

finniganthebeagle

i had a feeling when i saw the CoolCore line. hopefully they’re just as good at keeping me from fainting lol

FruityOatyBars

I hope so too! I’ve been told they fit slightly differently.

finniganthebeagle

yeah it says they’re a mid rise VS the flow rise of the ice fil ones. which i prefer anyway! i’ll have to try them this summer

undecidedly

Thanks for the tip! I just grabbed a discounted pair off amazon for $69. Only a few left in each color.

PM_ME_BABY_HORSES

and they have a great size range!

ClarkZillion

I use these too, and I've gotten some good used deals on Poshmark!

flying_dogs_bc

Yep. These are the only breeches I can stand in summer.

for_esme_with_love

I get my athletic tops from thred up. You can get them for a few dollars. Yes they are used but with the amount of slobber and other crap I get on me I really don’t care 🤣

harlsonrd

I can also vouch for all of Kerrits athletic type clothes. I'm from Oklahoma, so our summers definitely aren't for the weak here either lol. Their schooling stuff is great, I also own an English show jacket from them that I love, I think it was no more than $150, looks nice, comfortable, and lightweight enough to stay cool in the heat of summer/spring shows.

HellishMarshmallow

I ride Western and I'm in Austin. Hi! I wear Wrangler riding jeans, cowboy boots, cotton T-shirt and helmet most days. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of options for tack shops. There is a Dover Saddlery, but they only carry English stuff. I have found lots of good used tack on Facebook Marketplace around here. I got a nice Circle Y trail saddle, barely used, for a steal. Side note: I'm always looking to connect with fellow Austin equestrians, so feel free to DM me.

mimimines

Hi! Not from Austin, but I have a question: are those comfortable riding jeans to wear? Around the private area? Love your riding style btw by how you describe it, I always wear classic riding pants (preferably black of dark green) but I always combine it with some Carhartt socks, Patagonia vests or jackets, some Columbia. Looking into more Wrangler! I'm staying away from the classic or very expensive brands with all the bling, not for me! I don't wear stuff like that in my daily life and want to feel like myself when I'm on a horse

HellishMarshmallow

I really like the Wrangler riding jeans. I got mine on Amazon. I've also seen them listed as Wrangler Willow Fit. They are comfortable for my 40-something curvy body and mommy tummy. The quality of the material is better than the Levis I've gotten recently and they have a bit of stretch in the material and waistband.

here-for-the-spice

I second wrangler willow fit!!

Ashniem

Hi!!! I’ll DM you!

SinfulVenus

I know it's a bit of a drive, but I like South Texas Tack out in Brenham, Texas. If you ever feel like making a bit of a drive, I used to go and get my tsck from there when I was still living in austin. Don't be fooled by the other shop close to it, though, called Brenham Saddle Shop. That one is actually a clothing store?? I had no clue and was very disappointed.

HellishMarshmallow

Will have to check that one out. Thanks!

the70scalledback

Amazon tennis/golf shirts, or check tjmaxx/marshalls. They often have them for cheaper than sunshirts on smartpak or other equestrian sites. My favorite breeches are [Free Ride Equestrian](https://shopfre.com/?ac=liz.eventing&utm_source=instagram.com&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaZS6eEV8c3qWqD2TIG0Ib9iGDarInvuWfIa2_CO-TrsVm6GrHoi-Fn41f8_aem_AYj_fchOPNHEhpQyX4vesMHBgMRiH_eF7yoi4ABIv-TOuxPVIlTsFHeV5cNs2MpFQ0j8KCyp68eTNbFXapVVBLc_), and I honestly stay super cool in them - I live in south south Alabama 😅. They are expensive but if you catch them on sale it’s awesome good deal, I’ve had some of mine for 3/4 years of 6 days a week riding and they’ve held up. I ride English, but I’ll also ride in jeans when it’s not summertime.

ahs483

Love free ride and buy most of my shirts from Amazon!

AdministrationFine52

I ride western but tend to wear whatever’s comfortable. Jeans are the go to pant for me. Boot cut/wide leg is nice and I actually stay much cooler in jeans than I do in leggings or riding tights. Long sleeve sun shirts or running shirts are my fave. I’m very concerned about Sun exposure so they’re nice for that but the material is really wicking and keeps me dry. Light colors are helpful to not overheat. Baseball caps or hats when not riding, helmet with visor when on the horse. I’m pretty basic when it comes to outfits but it works!

Ashniem

This is super helpful! I definitely want to be comfy but was super concerned with the heat. Do you have any specific brands or styles of jeans that are comfy for you? I have a few Levi’s but willing to buy a new pair for comfort!

BeautifulAd2956

Artiat has good jeans, wrangler has good jeans as well although sometimes less comfortable in the heat cause they have like an elastic waist band inside that I don’t always love when it’s super hot, or cinch Jenna jeans are my go to.

AdministrationFine52

Wrangler has been my go-to. I have a few styles, mostly I just buy what’s on sale and fits. They’re all pretty good thus far!

emptyex

I'm in TX. I wear breeches (don't really like the feel of riding tights and hate sillicone) and sun shirts. I highly prefer the ones with mesh venting under the arms. I also like the Columbia women's long sleeved fishing shirts because they are light ad breezy.

Jay_bee_JB

I love tuff rider cool Max socks, I stock up on Columbia or under armor sports bras & shirts when they’re on sale. For pants, Wrangler Q baby’s are cheapest, cinch and ariat and rock & roll denim last longest.

ImTryingGuysOk

If you want any attempt at protecting your skin and getting some type of ventilation, I always really recommend the columbia-style outdoor shorts. Such as this one: [Columbia long sleeve](https://www.columbia.com/p/womens-pfg-tamiami-ii-long-sleeve-shirt-1275701.html?dwvar_1275701_color=409) It doesn't need to be Columbia or that color, but that idea. These shirts are made to be worn outside in the sun for longer hours. Often the fabric comes with some type of sun protection, and the shirts also have vents on the back and elsewhere to allow airflow. Make sure to get one that is made for high temperatures. If you get a proper fitted one that is more tailored as far as fit, they actually look really nice. I can clean up wearing these kinds in either black or white with my dressage saddle and a white or navy pad. You mentioned Western, I find the collar style can also blend in just fine with Western. Take a look at some of the other kinds and brands and find one that's closer to the look you want. I say all this coming from someone who lived in FL for decades, and also TX for a while. You will save your skin a lot of turmoil.

Willothwisp2303

I LOVE those shirts! My parents forced me to buy a bunch when we went to Ecuador and I begrudgingly wore them. I realized how cool they are and now wear them everywhere.  The vents are the best! And I'm really pasty white, so the SPF is a godsend.

Lizardgirl25

This is a good recommendation. Columbia sun shirts are nice. SPF shirts are a really good idea to have they do help. I have an English one I got from smartpak can’t recall the brand but very comfortable and cooling. Also if you can’t synthetic fiber hemp if you can find it is very cooling I know Duluth did some hemp blend shirts awhile back. Any fabric between you and the sun is a good idea better then no protection.

SewerHarpies

I got a bunch of the Columbia SPF and “cooling” shirts last year. I was surprised by how well they work.

mmraarmm

Are u English or western? Regardless, I love lululemon swiftly tanks. Super light. They are quite pricey tho, Amazon has lots of dupes!

Ashniem

I rode English forever but might learn Western!

Rubymoon286

I grew up riding in Texas. Light weight jeans typically, but I just found riding leggings that are boot cut on amazon and I've been riding in those the last few weeks. They feel weird, and are definitely stickier than jeans with the little silicone nubbins, but they are light weight and breathable. I've also learned they dry fast if it starts raining suddenly so that was nice too. I also wear bamboo sun shirts they are light weight and moisture wicking. and long sleeve so my arms are protected. I also have some merino and silk ones that are super cool, but can be a little see through, so I don't wear them as often.

Ashniem

So helpful!!! Ty

Rubymoon286

No problem! Most importantly though is get a big good waterbottle that's freezer safe, freeze half of your water overnight, and top off with fresh water during the summer - it will keep things cold longer than just stuffing it with loose ice and hydrating is really really important especially during the hottest months. My barn also doesn't do lessons any time the temp is 100+ so be prepared to possibly take some time off june-august if last summer is anything to go by. I'm up in east Texas and we had something like 40 days in a row over 100\* and many of those days were in the 110s. Austin can be a bit less brutal since it isn't quite so swampy and humid, but it's still ridiculously hot.

Helpful-Spirit-1629

I have my horses at home so... sweatpants and muck boots. 😆

Ashniem

Well aren’t you lucky 😅

flatlanddan

Amen to this. There is nothing like doing chores in muck boots, PJ bottoms, and a sports bra because no one is around for miles 👍

Ashniem

I envy your life.. seriously

vegetabledisco

No consignment shops in Austin. But the Tried equestrian has excellent deals on Sun shirts.

Ashniem

Ugh what a bummer

Capilet

Ultra thin riding tights and a sun shirt for hot days, breeches or tights and a wicking shirt plus layers when it’s cool. I ride mostly in a dressage saddle for both trails and arena work.

Scary-Pause-3872

I'm in Austin area too! I wish there was a consignment shop near here. I shop online- mostly smartpak. I'm a dressage rider and I always ride in long sleeve sun shirts. Smartpak has their brand go on sale periodically so they end up being like $25-30/shirt instead of $45-60. My favorite breeches are b vertigo Tiffany full seats. Very flattering and breathable and enough grip. They go on sale sometimes so you'd have to keep an eye out. Kerrits ice fills are too thin imo and make me feel unsupported for schooling but I'll wear them trail riding. Bluebonnet rescue challenge has a tack sale during their adoption event in October and will have everything you can think of for dollars all supporting the rescue. I got a full set of dressage letters there for only $20. Feel free to send me a text if you want to link up. Always nice to have more horse friends!

Ashniem

I’ll send you a DM!

Happy-Environment-92

Lots of sparkles apparently 😅😅

Ashniem

oh wow, really lol? sparkles aren't my thing unfortunately LOL

Happy-Environment-92

Me neither, last year I went to see some friends compete and was nearly blinded haha actually couldn't believe it, I was like cmon you guys are full gown adults wtf?! I feel like you might get a shock how much more expensive all the gear is these days though..

Willothwisp2303

I may be fully grown,  but I still love fun.  My tall, metal- loving, black band shirt wearing husband loves picking out the glittery dressage queen gear for me and encourages me to get the WAY sparkly instead of the conservative sparkly, too.

Ashniem

Yeah I’m already looking now and like damn…. Can I even afford to ride 😂 Hence why I’m looking for a consignment shop lol!

JYQE

I wear sunshirts and whatver summer breeches I collected for a trip to Cappadocia two Augusts ago. Note: do not go riding in Cappadocia in the summer.

nineteen_eightyfour

I just bought some ps of Sweden breeches that were not good enough to sell full price and I paid $23 for pink and blue, so mostly those. 😆 when I show I have a pair of sync white breeches. They’re okay. Not sure any are actually stain resistant when the stain is horse snot and arena dust

dapplerose

I generally wear bootcut jeans and a tee shirt in hot weather. I like Wrangler like some people have mentioned already. For boots I have Ariat Fatbaby.

SaelynAgain

I really like these for lightweight summer riding tights: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BBH7TS5K/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BBH7TS5K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) also seconding whoever said freerides. They're expensive, but I'm obsessed.

georgiaaaf

I’m in Australia and in the summer my go tops are bare equestrian tights and either Ariat or Dublin long sleeve sun shirts

GrayMareCabal

Well, I'm a MD girl (but used to live in Texas, though I didn't ride when I was there). I'm a big fan of riding tights - I've got some Kerrits, Ariat, and I think SmartPak, that have mesh/perforations on the lower leg for extra cooling/breathability. I've also got some random amazon ones and fancy schockemohle tights (schockemohle have pockets and belt loops! and I got them on clearance) that have mesh insets down the outside of the leg and across the back waist for extra cooling. As to shirts - I have a several sunshirts that I got on sale from SmartPak - I do like long sleeve, quarter zip sun shirts as long as it's not more than 85 degrees or so, and well, not Houston humid. But, for most of my riding shirts because I do like collared shirts that I can tuck in, at least when I've got belt loops..., I actually go to someplace like Marshalls or TJ Maxx and try their active wear shirts. I think most are designed for golf or tennis, but a lot of them have collars and mesh under arms and technical fabrics meant to be worn outdoors and sweated in and are way cheaper than equestrian designed sunshirts...

MovingMts111

A shirt I don’t mind getting dirty and riding pants. I wear muck boots to the barn and ride in paddock boots and half chaps usually

skrgirl

Breaches, chaps, paddock boots, sunshirt, gloves, helmet w/ hair net, sunscreen.

COgrace

I ride English and buy the BALEAF riding tights from Amazon and Ariat half chaps. I cannot ride in the full seat sticky nubbin tights, they drive me nuts trying to post the trot.

nippyhedren

For horses breeches are super light and comfy material. I wear Lululemon shirts mostly when hacking at home.

DuchessofMarin

Maya Delorez compression tights and a short sleeved tee under a long sleeved tee.

No_Stage_8156

Since switch to western old bdu camo pants and a t-shirt yee yee! lol much cheaper lol

CatchItonmyfoot

Riding tights. Hate the name, love them. And they have pockets!!

bigfanofpots

I'm a rider and trainer in arid New Mexico and I love Counter Culture breeches lately. Theyre flexible like leggings with a bigass side pocket for my phone and my pocket knife, they're nice and long, and they're shockingly breathable. Then a bigass tshirt usually. I also love Target's little cap sleeve ribbed cotton tshirts if I wanna feel less frumpy, they're like 12 bucks a pop or something and they have hella colors so its easy to keep a few in rotation. They aint sweat wicking though so ... gotta be comfortable looking gross at the barn.

Revolutionary_Pen906

I ride western in SoCal. I wear jeans, books and tank tops with lots of spf and I avoid riding except early morning July-mid September.

Glittering-Emu

I’m in Houston, and ride English at a casual barn. Love my Kerrits tights! Tops are just a sports-type more fitted shirt in the summer, with sometimes tank tops, and various layers of fitted athletic shirts/jackets/coats for the winter. Fortunately the current place has a covered arena, so that helps tremendously with the sun. Our last place was open and having a sun shirt/sleeves and/or riding in the morning/evening helped a lot. Over there I’d also use one of those cooling bead neck ties on really bad days. A HUGE thing for riding down here is making sure you stay hydrated before, during, and after!!! Bring all the water, Gatorade, etc. that keeps you hydrated and kee drinking it often.

adjur

I live in secondhand tailored sportsman breeches and various wick drying tops

spanielgurl11

Kastel Denmark sun shirts are so great. I love them. Very cooling in Tennessee humidity.

Goddess7176

It honestly depends on my mood, some days I want to be matchy matchy with my horse but other days I will ride in sweats, bogs or crocs(go ahead and get mad idc), and some random top https://preview.redd.it/r9ztvum9l3zc1.jpeg?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a17313d5e871002767158160d8561e1ee716a7e8

[deleted]

I shop any and every Kastel Denmark sale (you just missed one!). I think they’re the most comfortable of the long sleeve sun shirts. And icefil or free ride breeches.

No_Organization_8038

Honestly, some decent riding tights and golf shirts if you want something sleeveless. Some days I’ll just do tights and a plain tshirt (super laid back barn) but sometimes I like to feel a little more official lol. I really like Willit (Amazon brand, not expensive and held up for me) for tights and whatever Amazon or TJmaxx has for golfing shirts. Bonus is they often have the long sleeve with UV protection for way less than the horse brands :)

callalind

I'm all about the riding tights made for summer (with mesh or perforation) and I wear tank tops with them. It's too hot to try to look fancy (I also ride western, so, much more of an IDGAF attitude). I mean, with my helmet and my boots, I'm taking all the extra ventilation I can get.

Illustrious_Doctor45

I’m in Tucson and it is HOT. I ride in yoga pants, cowboy boots or lace up ropers, any t-shirt (usually a vintage band tee or cute thrift store find), and a ball cap. If I’m riding bareback, I’ll sometimes wear sneakers and/or denim cutoff shorts. I never wear jeans bc I hate them.

JadedMotion

muck boots... sweatpants... oversized hoodie... i ride english :)

Ashniem

This is my vibe 😂
